or_o else_o not_o so_o good_a as_o that_o from_o which_o he_o be_v draw_v and_o the_o truth_n be_v he_o that_o â—seth_v eloquence_n in_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o word_n do_v nothing_o else_o but_o draw_v the_o heart_n away_o from_o affect_v the_o pure_a word_n unto_o that_o which_o have_v no_o virtue_n in_o it_o to_o save_v again_o he_o preach_v not_o with_o entice_a word_n lest_o the_o cross_n of_o christ_n shall_v be_v of_o none_o effect_v that_o be_v if_o i_o shall_v preach_v myself_o in_o mix_v any_o thing_n with_o the_o word_n that_o will_v take_v away_o the_o power_n of_o the_o word_n the_o word_n will_v not_o be_v effectual_a to_o work_v grace_n in_o the_o heart_n therefore_o i_o dare_v not_o preach_v after_o this_o manner_n lest_o i_o shall_v deprive_v the_o church_n of_o the_o power_n of_o the_o word_n for_o if_o it_o want_v power_n to_o work_v it_o will_v also_o want_v power_n to_o save_v therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v 1_o cor._n 10._o 4._o the_o weapon_n of_o our_o 4._o warfare_n be_v not_o carnal_a but_o mighty_a through_o god_n etc._n etc._n that_o be_v the_o weapon_n by_o which_o we_o slay_v your_o corruption_n and_o lust_n be_v not_o carnal_a that_o be_v all_o the_o art_n science_n and_o knowledge_n that_o we_o can_v and_o all_o will_v be_v little_a enough_o for_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v who_o be_v sufficient_a for_o these_o thing_n that_o be_v who_o have_v the_o knowledge_n of_o art_n or_o learning_n or_o eloquence_n sufficient_o to_o preach_v the_o word_n but_o yet_o we_o must_v take_v heed_n that_o we_o do_v not_o bring_v they_o unto_o the_o word_n as_o we_o find_v they_o neither_o in_o they_o to_o show_v ourselves_o but_o only_a makâ—_n they_o as_o a_o mean_n to_o help_v we_o for_o this_o work_n as_o for_o example_n the_o child_n of_o israel_n may_v whet_v their_o scythe_n upon_o all_o the_o stone_n of_o the_o philistines_n so_o a_o minister_n may_v sharpen_v his_o faculty_n with_o arts._n a_o man_n that_o keep_v sheep_n he_o feed_v simile_n they_o with_o hay_n not_o because_o he_o look_v that_o they_o shall_v bring_v forth_o hay_n but_o lamb_n and_o wool_n even_o so_o let_v a_o man_n use_v these_o art_n and_o science_n yet_o not_o to_o bring_v forth_o eloquence_n but_o to_o make_v we_o more_o able_a to_o preach_v the_o pure_a word_n it_o be_v good_a therefore_o that_o we_o take_v heed_n that_o we_o do_v not_o eclipse_v the_o excellency_n of_o the_o word_n by_o these_o we_o know_v apparel_fw-mi though_o it_o be_v lay_v in_o pure_a gold_n yet_o so_o much_o as_o be_v cover_v of_o it_o detract_v from_o the_o excellency_n of_o it_o therefore_o it_o be_v better_a that_o imile_n it_o be_v alone_o so_o it_o be_v the_o word_n though_o the_o word_n may_v seem_v to_o be_v gild_v with_o eloquence_n or_o philosophy_n yet_o it_o be_v better_a that_o it_o be_v alone_o for_o so_o much_o of_o it_o as_o be_v cover_v with_o these_o so_o much_o of_o the_o excellency_n of_o the_o word_n be_v hide_v but_o you_o will_v say_v unto_o i_o that_o we_o use_v eloquence_n 4._o and_o the_o like_a that_o man_n may_v the_o better_o conceive_v we_o and_o that_o our_o ministry_n may_v the_o better_o be_v respect_v for_o we_o find_v this_o kind_n of_o teach_v most_o please_v they_o and_o which_o most_o man_n affect_v therefore_o if_o we_o shall_v not_o use_v such_o and_o such_o phrase_n of_o eloquence_n we_o shall_v be_v little_o respect_v among_o they_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v that_o every_o minister_n be_v or_o shall_v be_v a_o physician_n now_o we_o know_v that_o the_o part_n of_o a_o wise_a eloquence_n physicianis_fw-la not_o to_o satisfy_v the_o humour_n of_o his_o patient_n for_o so_o he_o may_v increase_v the_o disease_n but_o to_o labour_v to_o cure_v he_o by_o minister_a such_o physic_n unto_o he_o as_o he_o know_v by_o experience_n the_o necessity_n of_o the_o disease_n require_v even_o so_o to_o humour_n man_n in_o preach_v be_v not_o the_o way_n to_o cure_v they_o or_o to_o change_v the_o evil_a disposition_n of_o their_o nature_n but_o rather_o a_o mean_n to_o increase_v their_o disease_n and_o to_o make_v they_o obstinate_a and_o rebellious_a against_o the_o word_n when_o it_o shall_v come_v home_o unto_o they_o for_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o the_o word_n be_v so_o oppose_v when_o it_o be_v preach_v as_o the_o apostle_n say_v by_o the_o evidence_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o in_o power_n but_o because_o it_o cross_v their_o corruption_n it_o come_v not_o in_o the_o same_o manner_n that_o it_o be_v wont_a to_o do_v therefore_o the_o best_a way_n shall_v be_v to_o preach_v in_o the_o spirit_n that_o be_v to_o apply_v the_o pure_a word_n of_o god_n unto_o the_o conscience_n of_o man_n and_o so_o to_o purge_v out_o the_o sickness_n of_o the_o soul_n before_o it_o grow_v incurable_a there_o be_v a_o disease_n that_o many_o woman_n have_v at_o their_o stomach_n whereby_o they_o desire_v simile_n to_o eat_v ash_n and_o other_o thing_n which_o poison_v nature_n now_o if_o they_o be_v not_o cure_v of_o it_o by_o purge_v out_o the_o humour_n that_o lie_v there_o but_o be_v satisfy_v in_o it_o it_o will_v at_o last_o destroy_v they_o so_o it_o will_v be_v with_o these_o man_n to_o satisfy_v they_o in_o this_o sickness_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v not_o the_o way_n to_o cure_v they_o but_o to_o make_v they_o more_o incurable_a therefore_o let_v minister_n look_v that_o they_o preach_v the_o pure_a word_n and_o nothing_o but_o the_o pure_a word_n and_o let_v man_n examine_v themselves_o whether_o they_o be_v heavenly_a mind_v or_o no_o by_o their_o ra_n and_o relish_v of_o the_o word_n when_o it_o be_v preach_v pure_o without_o any_o mixture_n or_o else_o when_o it_o be_v mix_v with_o eloquence_n the_o four_o sign_n god_n in_o christ_n be_v that_o be_v he_o know_v what_o god_n do_v require_v to_o be_v do_v by_o he_o for_o christ_n not_o
all_o these_o thou_o shall_v be_v more_o than_o a_o conqueror_n and_o have_v a_o crown_n of_o glory_n in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v second_o the_o world_n tell_v thou_o that_o if_o thou_o will_v not_o be_v earthly_a mind_v thou_o shall_v lose_v thy_o wealth_n &_o riches_n thy_o honour_n and_o thy_o credit_n nay_o thy_o life_n also_o but_o faith_n tell_v thou_o that_o if_o thou_o be_v earthly_a mind_v thou_o shall_v lose_v thy_o spiritual_a life_n and_o riches_n and_o shall_v be_v poor_a in_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n thou_o shall_v lose_v honour_n and_o credit_n with_o god_n and_o of_o gold_n and_o silver_n he_o care_v not_o for_o it_o only_o give_v he_o meat_n and_o drink_n for_o that_o be_v the_o thing_n he_o most_o desire_n and_o stand_v most_o in_o need_n of_o or_o like_o a_o condemn_a man_n tell_v he_o of_o land_n and_o possession_n he_o regard_v they_o nothing_o at_o all_o for_o nothing_o will_v satisfy_v he_o but_o a_o pardon_n so_o it_o be_v with_o a_o christian_a that_o be_v humble_v and_o cast_v down_o under_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o wrarh_n of_o god_n for_o sin_n tell_v he_o of_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n in_o the_o most_o learned_a and_o excellent_a manner_n that_o possible_o you_o can_v yet_o nothing_o will_v satisfy_v he_o but_o the_o love_n and_o favour_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n he_o can_v relish_v nothing_o but_o heavenly_a thing_n nothing_o will_v quench_v his_o thirst_n but_o the_o impute_a righteousness_n of_o christ._n thus_o you_o see_v that_o humility_n be_v a_o excellent_a mean_n unto_o heavenly_a mindedness_n the_o three_o mean_n if_o you_o will_v get_v heavenly_a mindedness_n be_v this_o thou_o must_v labour_v to_o get_v thy_o judgement_n thing_n right_o inform_v especial_o concern_v earthly_a thing_n the_o reason_n the_o motion_n of_o the_o sea_n so_o there_o be_v many_o christian_n that_o make_v a_o godly_a show_n of_o profession_n at_o first_o but_o by_o degree_n they_o fall_v away_o till_o at_o length_n they_o become_v nothing_o they_o leave_v the_o good_a profession_n and_o take_v up_o a_o outward_a profess_v of_o christianity_n and_o do_v all_o in_o hypocrisy_n it_o be_v with_o these_o man_n as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o man_n that_o have_v a_o consumption_n simile_n in_o his_o body_n first_o he_o grow_v weak_a second_o he_o lose_v his_o colour_n three_o he_o lose_v his_o relish_n and_o bodily_a taste_v and_o this_o be_v the_o most_o dangerous_a of_o all_o so_o it_o be_v in_o a_o spiritual_a consumption_n first_o they_o be_v weak_a and_o feeble_a to_o perform_v holy_a duty_n second_o they_o lose_v their_o colour_n that_o be_v their_o cheerfulness_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o holy_a duty_n three_o which_o be_v the_o worst_a of_o all_o they_o lose_v their_o relish_n they_o can_v taste_v wholesome_a doctrine_n they_o delightnot_v in_o the_o pure_a word_n and_o this_o be_v dangerous_a and_o hard_o to_o be_v recover_v a_o consumption_n at_o first_o be_v more_o easy_o cure_v than_o discern_v and_o at_o length_n it_o be_v more_o easy_o discover_v than_o cure_v so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o spiritual_a the_o sickness_n and_o the_o weakness_n of_o the_o soul_n may_v at_o the_o first_o be_v more_o easy_o cure_v than_o discern_v but_o when_o they_o
and_o who_o can_v search_v it_o who_o be_v able_a to_o know_v whether_o the_o object_n heart_n be_v renew_v or_o no_o by_o the_o speech_n to_o this_o i_o answer_v i_o say_v not_o that_o a_o man_n may_v at_o all_o time_n and_o in_o all_o place_n judge_v of_o it_o aright_o but_o i_o say_v answer_n that_o a_o man_n may_v certain_o know_v himself_o whether_o he_o be_v renew_v or_o no_o which_o body_n it_o will_v grow_v incurable_a even_o so_o except_o this_o corruption_n of_o nature_n be_v purge_v out_o it_o will-grow_a incurable_a that_o be_v we_o can_v be_v save_v therefore_o we_o know_v to_o mortify_v sin_n be_v a_o work_n of_o necessity_n whereupon_o stand_v every_o man_n life_n and_o salvation_n the_o second_o thing_n which_o we_o note_v be_v this_o that_o the_o frame_n of_o our_o heart_n ought_v to_o suit_n with_o those_o condition_n that_o we_o receive_v by_o our_o union_n with_o 2._o christ._n and_o this_o also_o the_o apostle_n make_v another_o ground_n of_o mortification_n if_o you_o be_v rise_v with_o christ_n seek_v heavenly_a thing_n and_o therefore_o labour_v to_o mortify_v your_o inordinate_a affection_n and_o sinful_a lust_n that_o so_o the_o frame_n of_o your_o heart_n and_o disposition_n thereof_o may_v suit_v with_o heavenly_a thing_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v

grace_n that_o he_o have_v receive_v than_o he_o be_v to_o pray_v for_o a_o extraordinary_a help_n of_o the_o spirit_n but_o he_o can_v not_o do_v this_o before_o neither_o be_v it_o in_o the_o power_n of_o a_o unregenerate_a man_n to_o do_v it_o second_o he_o be_v able_a to_o resist_v any_o temptation_n or_o sin_n 2_o if_o it_o be_v not_o great_a or_o above_o the_o measure_n of_o grace_n that_o he_o have_v receive_v if_o it_o be_v a_o temptation_n of_o distrust_n or_o impatiency_n or_o presumption_n if_o it_o exceed_v not_o the_o measure_n of_o grace_n that_o he_o have_v receive_v he_o be_v able_a to_o put_v it_o to_o flight_n but_o if_o it_o do_v exceed_v than_o he_o be_v to_o pray_v for_o a_o extraordinary_a help_n of_o the_o spirit_n now_o the_o unregenerate_a man_n have_v no_o power_n to_o resist_v sin_n or_o temptation_n in_o this_o case_n but_o you_o will_v say_v again_o that_o there_o be_v no_o such_o power_n in_o the_o regenerate_a man_n for_o the_o apostle_n say_v gal._n 5._o 17._o 2._o the_o flesh_n lust_v against_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o spirit_n against_o 17._o the_o flesh_n and_o these_o be_v contrary_a one_o to_o the_o other_o so_o that_o you_o can_v do_v the_o thing_n that_o you_o will_v to_o this_o i_o answer_v it_o be_v true_a that_o in_o the_o most_o sanctify_a man_n thatis_o there_o be_v corruption_n and_o this_o corruption_n 2._o will_v fight_v against_o the_o spirit_n and_o may_v sometime_o hinder_v good_a but_o it_o be_v then_o when_o it_o exceed_v the_o measure_n of_o grace_n he_o have_v receive_v neither_o be_v it_o always_o prevail_v in_o this_o kind_n for_o when_o it_o exceed_v not_o the_o grace_n the_o spirit_n overcome_v it_o neither_o do_v it_o always_o continue_v it_o may_v be_v in_o the_o heart_n but_o it_o can_v reign_v in_o the_o heart_n it_o may_v be_v in_o the_o heart_n as_o a_o thief_n in_o a_o house_n not_o to_o have_v residence_n and_o a_o dwell_a place_n but_o for_o a_o night_n and_o be_v go_v so_o this_o lust_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o regenerate_a man_n dwell_v not_o there_o that_o be_v it_o do_v not_o always_o hinder_v he_o from_o good_a but_o for_o a_o time_n and_o then_o depart_v but_o it_o be_v not_o thus_o with_o a_o unregenerate_a man_n sin_n take_v possession_n and_o keep_v possession_n of_o his_o heart_n the_o three_o consectary_n or_o use_n stand_v thus_o see_v the_o apostle_n say_v mortify_v that_o be_v do_v not_o only_o abstain_v from_o the_o 3_o outward_a action_n of_o sin_n but_o from_o the_o thought_n of_o the_o heart_n for_o mortification_n be_v a_o slay_v of_o the_o evil_a disposition_n of_o the_o heart_n aswell_o as_o the_o slay_v of_o the_o action_n of_o the_o body_n mortification_n be_v first_o inward_a and_o then_o outward_a hence_o we_o gather_v this_o point_n that_o it_o be_v not_o sufficient_a for_o a_o man_n to_o abstain_v from_o the_o action_n heart_n of_o sin_n but_o he_o must_v abstain_v from_o sin_n in_o his_o heart_n if_o he_o will_v prove_v his_o mortification_n to_o be_v true_a 2_o pet._n 2._o 14._o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o their_o eye_n be_v fullof_o adultery_n now_o lust_n be_v not_o in_o the_o eye_n but_o in_o the_o heart_n but_o by_o this_o he_o fhewe_v that_o it_o be_v the_o fullness_n of_o sin_n in_o the_o heart_n that_o fill_v the_o eye_n therefore_o look_v unto_o the_o heart_n for_o the_o action_n be_v but_o the_o and_o see_v whether_o that_o evil_a disposition_n of_o the_o heart_n be_v mortify_v whether_o there_o be_v wrought_v in_o you_o a_o new_a disposition_n to_o good_a and_o a_o wither_a of_o all_o that_o be_v they_o which_o hunger_n in_o general_a for_o any_o part_n of_o righteousness_n they_o shall_v be_v fill_v therefore_o if_o we_o can_v come_v but_o to_o hunger_n especial_o for_o mortification_n which_o be_v the_o principal_a part_n of_o righteousness_n i_o say_v if_o we_o can_v but_o come_v unto_o god_n in_o truth_n with_o a_o willing_a heart_n and_o desire_v it_o we_o a_o willing_a heart_n their_o heart_n be_v unstable_a they_o be_v willing_a and_o unwilling_a willing_a to_o leave_v sin_n that_o they_o may_v be_v free_v from_o the_o guilt_n unwilling_a to_o leave_v the_o pleasure_n they_o have_v in_o sin_n therefore_o say_v one_o i_o pray_v often_o to_o have_v my_o sin_n forgive_v and_o mortify_v and_o yet_o i_o fear_v the_o lord_n will_v august_n hear_v my_o deserve_v labour_n at_o our_o hand_n the_o knowledge_n of_o every_o art_n require_v simile_n labour_n and_o industry_n and_o the_o great_a mystery_n that_o be_v enfold_v in_o the_o science_n the_o great_a labour_n it_o require_v even_o so_o mortification_n require_v much_o pain_n for_o it_o discover_v unto_o we_o a_o great_a mystery_n the_o mystery_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o baseness_n of_o our_o nature_n and_o also_o the_o excellency_n that_o be_v in_o christ_n both_o of_o justification_n and_o remission_n of_o sin_n and_o this_o necessary_o flow_v from_o the_o former_a for_o if_o there_o be_v a_o willing_a mind_n in_o a_o man_n to_o mortify_v sin_n then_o certain_o he_o will_v take_v any_o pain_n that_o he_o may_v attain_v unto_o it_o as_o the_o apostle_n say_v 1_o cor._n 9_o 26._o i_o run_v not_o in_o vain_a as_o one_o that_o beat_v the_o air_n that_o be_v i_o take_v pain_n but_o it_o be_v not_o in_o vain_a i_o take_v no_o more_o pain_n than_o i_o must_v needs_o for_o if_o i_o man_n be_v like_o the_o ballast_n of_o a_o ship_n that_o leak_n simile_n though_o thou_o pump_v never_o so_o fast_o yet_o still_o there_o be_v work_v even_o so_o the_o heart_n be_v a_o fountain_n of_o all_o manner_n of_o uncleanness_n there_o be_v much_o wickedness_n in_o it_o therefore_o we_o have_v need_n pray_v for_o a_o fountain_n of_o spiritual_a light_n that_o be_v of_o sanctification_n that_o we_o may_v not_o be_v drown_v in_o our_o corruption_n or_o it_o be_v like_o a_o brazen_a candlestick_n which_o although_o it_o be_v make_v marvellous_a clean_o yet_o it_o simile_n will_v present_o soil_n and_o gather_v filth_n so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n if_o this_o work_n of_o mortification_n do_v not_o continue_v it_o will_v soil_n and_o grow_v filthy_a now_o in_o this_o work_n of_o mortification_n the_o papist_n point_n seem_v to_o take_v great_a pain_n for_o the_o mortify_n of_o sin_n and_o indeed_o they_o may_v seem_v to_o we_o to_o be_v the_o only_a man_n that_o take_v pain_n for_o this_o grace_n if_o we_o do_v not_o meet_v with_o that_o clause_n coll._n 2._o 23._o where_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o this_o afflict_v of_o the_o body_n be_v but_o have_v take_v possession_n of_o the_o heart_n it_o draw_v and_o expel_v away_o all_o the_o darkness_n of_o the_o mind_n and_o make_v it_o to_o look_v and_o to_o see_v christ_n in_o a_o more_o excellent_a manner_n than_o before_o assure_v he_o of_o perfect_a justification_n and_o remission_n of_o his_o sin_n and_o here_o the_o error_n of_o many_o be_v meet_v withal_o in_o the_o confute_v matter_n of_o mortification_n they_o will_v have_v mortification_n first_o wrought_v and_o then_o they_o will_v lay_v hold_n upon_o christ_n for_o remission_n of_o sin_n oh_o say_v they_o if_o i_o can_v but_o find_v this_o sin_n or_o that_o sin_n mortify_v than_o i_o will_v lay_v hold_n upon_o christ_n than_o i_o will_v believe_v for_o alas_o how_o can_v i_o look_v for_o remission_n of_o sin_n how_o dare_v i_o lie_v hold_v or_o how_o can_v i_o lie_v hold_v upon_o christ_n when_o i_o find_v that_o my_o corruption_n have_v such_o hold_v on_o i_o but_o these_o be_v deceive_v for_o this_o be_v contrary_n to_o the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n for_o first_o faith_n assure_v of_o pardon_n and_o then_o follow_v mortification_n that_o be_v when_o a_o man_n be_v once_o assure_v of_o pardon_n of_o sin_n than_o he_o begin_v to_o mortify_v and_o to_o slay_v his_o corruption_n for_o mortification_n be_v a_o fruit_n of_o faith_n and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v phil._n 3._o 10._o that_o i_o the_o apostle_n say_v 1_o pet._n 5._o 5._o god_n resist_v the_o proud_a but_o he_o give_v grace_n 5._o to_o the_o humble_a he_o resist_v the_o proud_a that_o be_v he_o do_v stand_v in_o opposition_n come_v to_o conceive_v of_o spiritual_a and_o heavenly_a thing_n renew_v his_o mind_n may_v be_v enlighten_v with_o the_o knowledge_n of_o they_o and_o yet_o be_v but_o earthly_a mind_v as_o for_o example_n first_o he_o may_v see_v a_o virtue_n in_o heavenly_a thing_n above_o all_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n he_o may_v conceive_v of_o they_o 1_o by_o look_v into_o they_o so_o that_o a_o virtue_n and_o power_n may_v appear_v in_o they_o excel_v every_o virtue_n in_o any_o thing_n else_o and_o yet_o not_o renew_v second_o if_o he_o be_v of_o a_o more_o noble_a spirit_n he_o may_v do_v the_o mind_n be_v earthly_a dispose_v the_o will_n and_o affection_n can_v go_v no_o further_o than_o the_o mind_n guide_v they_o every_o faculty_n have_v a_o appetite_n and_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o man_n have_v a_o understanding_n which_o govern_v now_o look_v what_o the_o mind_n of_o a_o man_n love_v or_o hate_v that_o the_o will_n will_v or_o will_v not_o for_o the_o will_n be_v but_o the_o sense_n and_o affect_v that_o which_o the_o mind_n affect_v and_o thus_o the_o will_n and_o affection_n hang_v upon_o the_o mind_n it_o be_v unpossible_a that_o the_o will_n of_o a_o man_n shall_v will_n and_o affect_v any_o other_o thing_n then_o that_o which_o the_o mind_n be_v affect_v with_o but_o here_o some_o question_n may_v be_v move_v the_o first_o question_n be_v this_o but_o be_v there_o such_o light_n in_o the_o understanding_n 1._o as_o you_o say_v than_o it_o seem_v that_o a_o natural_a man_n mâ—y_n by_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n come_v unto_o true_a knowledge_n to_o this_o i_o answer_v that_o a_o natural_a man_n may_v come_v for_o substance_n as_o far_o as_o a_o spiritual_a man_n but_o not_o in_o a_o right_a 1._o manner_n the_o apostle_n say_v rom._n 8._o 5._o they_o that_o be_v of_o thing_n the_o flesh_n do_v savour_n the_o thing_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o 1_o cor._n 2._o 14._o the_o natural_a man_n perceive_v not_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o spirit_n where_o the_o apostle_n say_v he_o do_v not_o know_v they_o at_o all_o 14._o for_o he_o want_v a_o sanctify_a knowledge_n of_o they_o he_o know_v they_o but_o not_o by_o that_o knowledge_n which_o be_v wrought_v by_o the_o spirit_n always_o accompany_v with_o sanctification_n he_o know_v they_o for_o substance_n but_o not_o in_o the_o right_a manner_n as_o to_o be_v a_o rule_n to_o his_o life_n faculty_n to_o transform_v and_o enlighten_v they_o and_o therefore_o though_o he_o have_v light_a yet_o still_o he_o remain_v in_o darkness_n the_o second_o thing_n to_o be_v consider_v be_v this_o what_o it_o be_v to_o be_v heavenly_a mind_v a_o man_n be_v say_v to_o be_v heavenly_a mind_v mind_v when_o there_o be_v a_o new_a life_n put_v into_o he_o whereby_o he_o be_v able_a both_o to_o see_v regenerate_a man_n he_o see_v christ_n and_o the_o privilege_n that_o be_v in_o christ_n before_o but_o dark_o as_o it_o be_v in_o a_o map_n only_o by_o a_o common_a illumination_n but_o now_o he_o see_v they_o by_o the_o special_a illumination_n of_o the_o spirit_n through_o grace_n and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v 1_o cor._n 2._o 9_o the_o eye_n have_v not_o see_v nor_o the_o ear_n hear_v neither_o open_v have_v it_o enter_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n to_o conceive_v of_o those_o thing_n that_o god_n have_v prepare_v for_o they_o that_o love_v he_o howsoever_o this_o with_o a_o spiritual_a man_n before_o he_o be_v regenerate_v he_o listen_v not_o he_o regard_v not_o spiritual_a thing_n when_o he_o hear_v of_o justification_n and_o remission_n of_o sin_n he_o slight_o pass_v they_o over_o because_o he_o feel_v himself_o in_o health_n and_o find_v no_o want_n of_o they_o for_o what_o shall_v a_o man_n take_v and_o apply_v a_o plaster_n to_o a_o whole_a place_n that_o have_v no_o need_n of_o such_o a_o thing_n but_o when_o he_o be_v once_o renew_v and_o mortify_v than_o he_o find_v these_o suitable_a to_o his_o disposition_n and_o this_o be_v to_o be_v heavenly_a mind_v a_o natural_a man_n or_o womâ—n_n may_v talk_v of_o grace_n of_o justification_n and_o remission_n of_o sin_n but_o they_o can_v say_v that_o these_o be_v i_o or_o that_o i_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o they_o for_o so_o say_v the_o apostle_n 1_o cor._n 2._o 14._o the_o natural_a man_n perceive_v not_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o be_v he_o may_v talk_v of_o deep_a point_n of_o divinity_n but_o not_o by_o the_o feel_n of_o the_o spirit_n he_o may_v see_v god_n and_o christ_n but_o not_o in_o a_o right_a manner_n but_o you_o may_v say_v unto_o i_o if_o a_o man_n heavenly_a mind_a may_v see_v thus_o far_o then_o when_o he_o come_v 2._o once_o unto_o this_o estate_n he_o need_v not_o
their_o light_n and_o splendour_n so_o man_n be_v say_v to_o lose_v their_o excellency_n when_o they_o give_v way_n unto_o their_o lust_n and_o the_o reason_n be_v first_o because_o when_o the_o excellency_n of_o it_o now_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o can_v make_v a_o man_n to_o lose_v his_o excellency_n but_o sin_n for_o other_o thing_n that_o happen_v unto_o a_o man_n excellency_n be_v not_o able_a to_o take_v away_o his_o excellency_n as_o reproach_n and_o imprisonment_n in_o the_o world_n for_o a_o man_n may_v keep_v himself_o heavenly_a mind_v for_o all_o the_o reproach_n and_o imprisonment_n that_o he_o shall_v meet_v withal_o if_o he_o can_v keep_v out_o sin_n all_o other_o thing_n be_v unto_o he_o but_o as_o a_o candle_n in_o a_o dark_a night_n which_o make_v a_o man_n to_o have_v the_o affection_n draw_v away_o for_o as_o a_o adultress_n be_v odious_a unto_o her_o husband_n because_o her_o heart_n be_v draw_v away_o from_o he_o so_o a_o idolater_n be_v odious_a unto_o god_n because_o it_o draw_v away_o the_o heart_n from_o god_n and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v jam._n 4._o 4._o know_v you_o not_o that_o the_o 4._o love_n of_o the_o world_n be_v 6._o a_o swinish_a disposition_n as_o to_o covetousness_n or_o pride_n he_o shall_v hardly_o be_v renew_v by_o repentance_n that_o be_v he_o will_v hardly_o scrape_v off_o that_o blot_n of_o relapse_n nay_o many_o time_n the_o lord_n meet_v with_o such_o by_o great_a judgement_n as_o solomon_n in_o his_o youth_n how_o do_v he_o maintain_v religion_n yet_o in_o his_o age_n how_o fearful_o do_v he_o fall_v into_o idolatry_n asa_n be_v young_a honour_n god_n in_o his_o youth_n yet_o he_o fall_v away_o in_o his_o age_n &_o the_o holy_a ghost_n have_v brand_v he_o with_o three_o fearful_a sin_n and_o so_o ahaziah_n he_o fall_v away_o from_o god_n to_o idolatry_n and_o in_o his_o sickness_n send_v to_o witch_n to_o help_v he_o how_o unanswerable_a be_v the_o end_n of_o these_o to_o their_o beginning_n therefore_o take_v heed_n of_o apostasy_n i_o speak_v of_o this_o the_o more_o because_o we_o see_v daily_o many_o in_o their_o youth_n be_v marvellous_a zealous_a and_o pretend_v great_a love_n unto_o religion_n and_o yet_o if_o you_o mark_v the_o end_n of_o these_o i_o speak_v not_o of_o all_o who_o great_a backslider_n than_o they_o and_o indeed_o this_o backslide_v many_o time_n prove_v
world_n nor_o their_o affection_n to_o be_v draw_v away_o and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o he_o chastise_v every_o son_n who_o he_o do_v receive_v that_o be_v if_o a_o man_n or_o a_o woman_n do_v belong_v unto_o god_n they_o shall_v be_v sure_a of_o sorrow_n and_o affliction_n and_o these_o be_v send_v unto_o they_o to_o wean_v they_o from_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o world_n to_o not_o sanctify_v &_o where_o theyare_n not_o sanctify_v unto_o a_o man_n or_o a_o woman_n no_o sweetness_n can_v be_v expect_v from_o they_o and_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o they_o have_v not_o peace_n of_o conscience_n which_o proceed_v from_o grace_n now_o howsoever_o worldly_a man_n may_v seem_v to_o the_o world_n to_o have_v true_a content_n and_o to_o be_v fill_v with_o joy_n yet_o the_o truth_n be_v it_o be_v a_o sick_a joy_n for_o their_o conscience_n be_v ever_o accuse_v of_o they_o and_o they_o be_v in_o a_o continual_a fear_n that_o they_o shall_v lose_v one_o another_o therefore_o the_o lord_n will_v be_v sure_a to_o afflict_v they_o psa._n 55._o 19_o the_o lord_n will_v hear_v and_o afflict_v these_o because_o they_o 19_o have_v no_o change_n therefore_o they_o usual_a for_o the_o lord_n most_o common_o meet_v with_o they_o here_o either_o by_o afflict_v of_o judgement_n upon_o they_o or_o else_o with_o sudden_a death_n but_o if_o he_o do_v not_o meet_v with_o they_o here_o it_o be_v because_o their_o judgement_n may_v be_v the_o great_a that_o when_o they_o have_v heap_v up_o the_o measure_n of_o their_o sin_n than_o god_n will_v heap_v up_o the_o measure_n of_o their_o punishment_n and_o the_o measure_n of_o his_o wrath_n to_o press_v they_o down_o unto_o hell_n now_o what_o if_o god_n defer_v the_o execution_n of_o judgement_n it_o be_v not_o because_o there_o be_v any_o slackness_n in_o god_n as_o if_o he_o do_v not_o regard_v they_o but_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o it_o be_v his_o patience_n 1_o pet._n 3._o 20._o he_o take_v notice_n of_o it_o he_o 20._o put_v it_o upon_o record_n he_o remember_v it_o well_o enough_o but_o he_o be_v a_o patient_a god_n that_o be_v he_o wait_v for_o their_o conversion_n now_o patience_n be_v a_o attribute_n of_o god_n and_o every_o attribute_n of_o god_n be_v god_n himself_o for_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o be_v in_o god_n but_o it_o be_v god_n patience_n i_o say_v be_v one_o of_o the_o willing_o be_v save_v all_o man_n do_v desire_v salvation_n and_o yet_o there_o be_v but_o few_o that_o in_o truth_n do_v desire_v it_o because_o their_o practice_n of_o life_n be_v not_o answerable_a to_o such_o a_o desire_n for_o the_o apostle_n say_v he_o that_o have_v this_o hope_n purge_v himself_o that_o be_v he_o will_v take_v spiritual_a physic_n the_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n which_o will_v thorough_o purge_v out_o this_o earthly_a mindedness_n or_o at_o leastwise_o keep_v it_o under_o that_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o bear_v dominion_n in_o his_o heart_n now_o i_o say_v there_o be_v a_o necessity_n lay_v upon_o every_o man_n to_o be_v heavenly_a mind_v for_o so_o our_o saviour_n say_v mat._n 6._o 24._o no_o man_n can_v serve_v 24._o two_o master_n he_o can_v serve_v god_n and_o mammon_n that_o be_v he_o can_v serve_v god_n with_o one_o part_n of_o his_o soul_n and_o none_o the_o world_n with_o another_o you_o can_v be_v earthly_a mind_v and_o heavenly_a mind_v god_n will_v have_v all_o the_o soul_n or_o none_o god_n will_v admit_v of_o no_o co-partnership_n he_o will_v not_o be_v a_o sharer_n with_o the_o world_n of_o that_o which_o be_v his_o right_n again_o two_o contrary_n in_o nature_n can_v stand_v together_o now_o there_o be_v nothing_o so_o contrary_a as_o god_n and_o the_o world_n and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v if_o any_o man_n love_v the_o world_n the_o love_n of_o the_o father_n be_v not_o in_o he_o that_o be_v if_o he_o set_v the_o world_n in_o the_o first_o place_n he_o can_v keep_v the_o love_n of_o god_n god_n and_o his_o grace_n will_v depart_v from_o that_o man_n it_o be_v a_o thing_n contrary_n to_o nature_n to_o serve_v two_o master_n man_n can_v bear_v it_o for_o there_o can_v be_v but_o part_n serve_v and_o sure_o it_o be_v not_o so_o contrary_a to_o a_o man_n as_o it_o be_v contrary_a unto_o god_n therefore_o it_o be_v the_o folly_n of_o man_n that_o think_v they_o may_v retain_v their_o earthly_a mindedness_n and_o yet_o serve_v god_n too_o but_o it_o be_v unpossible_a to_o join_v these_o two_o in_o any_o action_n and_o yet_o be_v acceptable_a to_o god_n faith_n be_v that_o which_o be_v the_o ornament_n of_o every_o action_n whatsoever_o be_v not_o of_o faith_n be_v sin_n now_o every_o earthly_a mind_a man_n be_v a_o faithless_a man_n it_o keep_v faith_n out_o of_o the_o soul_n whether_o it_o be_v love_n of_o riches_n or_o honour_n or_o pleasure_n though_o it_o be_v but_o a_o depend_v on_o the_o approbation_n of_o such_o or_o such_o a_o man_n it_o will_v keep_v faith_n out_o of_o the_o soul_n so_o say_v our_o saviour_n joh._n 5._o 44._o how_o can_v you_o believe_v see_v you_o seek_v honour_v one_o of_o another_o and_o not_o the_o honour_n that_o come_v of_o god_n the_o cause_n that_o they_o want_v faith_n be_v because_o they_o prefer_v the_o approbation_n of_o mâ—n_z and_o seek_v that_o before_o the_o gift_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n for_o it_o be_v unpossible_a you_o shall_v believe_v so_o long_o as_o you_o retain_v any_o affection_n of_o vainglory_n luk._n 9_o 23._o our_o saviour_n christian_n give_v two_o mark_n of_o a_o true_a christian_a the_o one_o be_v to_o deny_v himself_o and_o the_o other_o be_v to_o take_v up_o the_o cross_n therefore_o it_o be_v not_o only_o require_v that_o a_o man_n deny_v himself_o the_o pleasure_n and_o profit_n of_o the_o world_n and_o all_o inordinate_a affection_n but_o he_o must_v also_o take_v up_o the_o cross_n he_o must_v be_v willing_a to_o suffer_v for_o christ_n reproach_n disdain_n and_o shame_n for_o there_o what_o they_o shall_v do_v to_o i_o all_o thing_n come_v from_o god_n whether_o they_o be_v good_a thing_n or_o bad_a whether_o they_o come_v immediate_o from_o god_n as_o life_n health_n joy_n salvation_n or_o the_o like_a or_o whether_o they_o come_v mediate_o by_o other_o mean_n as_o friend_n wealth_n pleasure_n sickness_n sorrow_n or_o the_o like_a when_o thou_o be_v sad_a who_o can_v comfort_v thou_o if_o god_n will_v not_o when_o thou_o be_v sick_a who_o can_v heal_v thou_o when_o thou_o be_v go_v to_o hell_n who_o can_v save_v thou_o be_v thou_o weak_a who_o can_v strengthen_v keep_v of_o they_o before_o god_n glory_n this_o be_v to_o make_v they_o your_o god_n yet_o i_o say_v not_o but_o it_o be_v lawful_a to_o use_v thing_n for_o a_o end_n as_o recreation_n for_o this_o end_n to_o fit_v our_o body_n for_o the_o performance_n of_o better_a thing_n this_o be_v as_o it_o be_v to_o take_v physic_n for_o health-sake_n but_o when_o man_n will_v make_v they_o their_o end_n to_o whet_v the_o faith_n when_o it_o be_v dull_a a_o mean_n to_o sharpen_v the_o faculty_n that_o they_o may_v lawful_a be_v the_o fit_a to_o do_v the_o function_n of_o the_o body_n and_o soul_n but_o when_o it_o be_v use_v excessive_o it_o become_v a_o hurt_n and_o hindrance_n unto_o it_o when_o man_n will_v make_v a_o trade_n of_o recreation_n and_o spend_v their_o time_n in_o it_o from_o day_n to_o day_n and_o so_o make_v it_o their_o vocation_n this_o be_v a_o wicked_a thing_n and_o this_o be_v folly_n in_o young_a man_n who_o because_o they_o have_v mean_n therefore_o think_v that_o it_o be_v not_o unlawful_a to_o spend_v their_o time_n in_o game_n and_o the_o like_a but_o they_o be_v deceive_v for_o the_o lord_n exempt_v they_o from_o no_o calling_n that_o i_o know_v of_o sure_o so_o likewise_o for_o all_o other_o in_o the_o like_a kind_n and_o according_o judge_v of_o yourselves_o whether_o you_o be_v heavenly_a mind_a or_o no._n the_o second_o sign_n whereby_o you_o may_v know_v whether_o 2._o you_o be_v heavenly_a mind_a or_o no_o be_v by_o the_o esteem_n that_o you_o have_v of_o heavenly_a thing_n whether_o you_o esteem_v they_o as_o a_o part_n of_o yourselves_o every_o faculty_n or_o habit_n have_v a_o object_n if_o thou_o be_v a_o carnal_a man_n then_o these_o earthly_a thing_n be_v that_o which_o delight_v thy_o soul_n but_o if_o thou_o be_v heavenly_a cor._n 4._o 5._o the_o apostle_n say_v we_o preach_v not_o ourselves_o that_o be_v we_o 5._o account_v not_o of_o the_o approbation_n of_o man_n nor_o any_o outward_a thing_n as_o a_o part_n of_o no_o inlacke_a of_o spiritual_a grace_n all_o be_v well_o with_o he_o therefore_o examine_v yourselves_o whether_o you_o be_v heavenly_a mind_a or_o no_o by_o the_o esteem_n that_o you_o have_v of_o earthly_a member_n the_o three_o sign_n whereby_o you_o may_v examine_v yourselves_o whether_o you_o be_v earthly_a mind_a or_o no_o be_v by_o 3_o your_o spiritual_a taste_n whether_o you_o relish_v heavenly_a or_o earthly_a thing_n best_a and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v rom._n 85._o they_o that_o be_v of_o the_o flesh_n do_v savour_v the_o thing_n of_o the_o flesh_n but_o they_o that_o be_v of_o the_o spirit_n the_o thing_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o be_v if_o the_o heart_n be_v regenerate_v it_o will_v taste_v a_o sweetness_n in_o nothing_o but_o in_o heavenly_a thing_n or_o at_o lest_o nothing_o will_v be_v so_o sweet_a unto_o he_o and_o on_o the_o contrary_a they_o that_o be_v earthly_a mind_v they_o can_v find_v no_o sweetness_n in_o heavenly_a thing_n now_o as_o i_o say_v before_o every_o faculty_n or_o habit_n have_v a_o object_n in_o which_o it_o be_v delight_v whether_o it_o be_v unto_o good_a or_o unto_o evil_n so_o that_o if_o the_o heart_n be_v regenerate_v than_o it_o will_v find_v sweetness_n in_o nothing_o but_o spiritual_a thing_n but_o if_o it_o be_v unregenerate_a than_o it_o can_v find_v no_o sweetness_n in_o heavenly_a thing_n neither_o can_v it_o wish_v they_o so_o well_o as_o earthly_a thing_n therefore_o examine_v what_o you_o delight_v in_o what_o delight_v you_o have_v of_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o pure_a word_n whether_o you_o relish_v it_o then_o best_a when_o it_o come_v in_o the_o plain_a evidence_n of_o the_o spirit_n or_o when_o it_o be_v mix_v with_o eloquence_n and_o wit_n which_o if_o you_o do_v it_o be_v 1._o a_o sign_n of_o earthly_a mindedness_n it_o be_v say_v 2_o pet._n 2._o 1._o as_o new_o bear_v babe_n desire_v the_o sincere_a milk_n of_o the_o word_n that_o be_v the_o man_n that_o be_v true_o regenerate_v and_o renew_v ho_o do_v best_a relish_v the_o word_n when_o it_o be_v alone_o without_o any_o mixture_n and_o therefore_o he_o call_v it_o the_o sincere_a milk_n that_o be_v the_o pure_a word_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v it_o be_v pure_a of_o itself_o but_o if_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n add_v unto_o it_o or_o mix_v with_o it_o it_o detract_v from_o the_o excellency_n of_o it_o for_o indeed_o the_o word_n be_v the_o pure_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n all_o art_n and_o science_n and_o knowledge_n of_o philosophy_n be_v good_a for_o moral_a duty_n but_o they_o be_v corrupt_a &_o unclean_a in_o comparison_n of_o the_o word_n and_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o these_o be_v the_o work_n of_o man_n now_o there_o be_v no_o work_n of_o man_n but_o it_o be_v subject_a to_o corruption_n but_o the_o word_n of_o god_n remain_v pure_a therefore_o examine_v yourselves_o how_o you_o stand_v affect_v with_o the_o pure_a word_n but_o some_o will_v say_v unto_o i_o that_o eloquence_n and_o wit_n word_n be_v a_o ornament_n unto_o the_o word_n it_o let_v forth_o the_o excellency_n of_o the_o word_n the_o more_o therefore_o if_o it_o be_v such_o a_o ornament_n unto_o itself_o now_o if_o any_o thing_n be_v add_v unto_o a_o thing_n that_o be_v excellent_a either_o the_o thing_n must_v be_v as_o excellent_a or_o else_o it_o detract_v from_o the_o excellency_n of_o it_o but_o there_o be_v no_o man_n but_o will_v confess_v that_o the_o word_n be_v the_o most_o excellent_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n therefore_o it_o must_v follow_v that_o eloquence_n add_v not_o of_o the_o world_n yet_o if_o it_o appear_v to_o he_o that_o he_o have_v grace_n in_o his_o heart_n or_o if_o he_o make_v a_o outward_a profession_n of_o love_n to_o god_n he_o do_v high_o esteem_v of_o he_o because_o of_o grace_n on_o the_o contrary_a if_o he_o see_v a_o great_a man_n though_o in_o great_a honour_n and_o esteem_v with_o man_n yet_o he_o respect_v he_o not_o if_o he_o want_v grace_n therefore_o examine_v yourselves_o whether_o you_o be_v able_a to_o distinguish_v of_o person_n in_o this_o kind_n second_o for_o thing_n he_o be_v able_a to_o judge_v of_o thing_n thing_n whether_o they_o be_v spiritual_a or_o earthly_a he_o be_v able_a now_o to_o know_v what_o be_v truth_n and_o to_o embrace_v it_o and_o what_o be_v error_n and_o to_o refuse_v it_o he_o have_v now_o a_o touchstone_n in_o himself_o that_o be_v he_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o discern_v whereby_o he_o make_v trial_n of_o grace_n and_o lay_n hold_v on_o those_o which_o will_v endure_v the_o touch_n those_o he_o will_v receive_v as_o spiritual_a the_o other_o which_o will_v not_o he_o cast_v out_o as_o counterfeit_v therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v 1_o cor._n 2._o 9_o the_o eye_n have_v not_o see_v nor_o the_o ear_n hear_v neither_o have_v enter_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n the_o thing_n that_o god_n have_v prepare_v for_o they_o that_o love_v he_o that_o be_v he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o judge_v of_o thing_n in_o that_o manner_n as_o now_o he_o can_v therefore_o examine_v yourselves_o whether_o there_o be_v a_o new_a life_n put_v into_o you_o whereby_o you_o be_v able_a to_o know_v that_o he_o live_v so_o a_o man_n that_o have_v spiritual_a love_n in_o his_o heart_n towards_o god_n can_v but_o certain_o know_v it_o except_o it_o be_v in_o time_n of_o temptation_n and_o then_o it_o may_v be_v he_o may_v not_o find_v that_o love_n of_o god_n in_o his_o heart_n but_o this_o sense_n of_o the_o want_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n be_v but_o for_o a_o time_n it_o continue_v not_o therefore_o the_o holy_a ghost_n when_o he_o will_v describe_v a_o heavenly_a mind_a man_n he_o describe_v he_o by_o his_o affection_n as_o the_o best_a mark_n to_o try_v he_o by_o as_o abraham_n will_v command_v his_o servant_n to_o serve_v god_n and_o nehemiah_n fear_v god_n and_o david_n psal._n 112._o 1._o delight_v great_o in_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n now_o abundance_n that_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n be_v evil_a than_o the_o heart_n can_v but_o send_v out_o foul_a speech_n and_o rot_a communication_n and_o therefore_o our_o saviour_n say_v a_o good_a tree_n can_v bring_v forth_o evil_a fruit_n nor_o a_o evil_a tree_n good_a fruit_n it_o be_v unpossible_a that_o a_o heart_n which_o do_v abound_v and_o be_v full_a of_o earthly_a mindedness_n but_o it_o will_v break_v forth_o and_o appear_v by_o his_o speech_n the_o filthiness_n that_o be_v in_o his_o heart_n if_o it_o have_v simile_n not_o vent_v it_o will_v burst_v as_o we_o know_v a_o new_a vessel_n that_o have_v wine_n put_v into_o it_o must_v have_v a_o vent_n or_o else_o it_o will_v burst_v and_o by_o the_o vent_n you_o may_v know_v what_o wine_n it_o be_v so_o the_o speech_n be_v the_o vent_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o by_o they_o you_o may_v see_v what_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n if_o grace_n be_v there_o the_o speech_n s_o will_v favour_v of_o it_o as_o a_o cask_n will_v taste_v of_o that_o which_o be_v in_o it_o but_o you_o will_v say_v the_o heart_n be_v of_o a_o great_a depth_n
concern_v his_o house_n when_o i_o begin_v i_o will_v also_o make_v a_o end_n if_o he_o strike_v once_o he_o need_v not_o to_o strike_v any_o more_o his_o blow_n be_v sure_a when_o he_o strike_v he_o never_o miss_v his_o arrow_n kill_v at_o first_o shoot_v consider_v second_o that_o either_o a_o sudden_a judgement_n 2_o shall_v overtake_v they_o and_o so_o confound_v they_o in_o a_o instant_n or_o if_o it_o be_v delay_v than_o the_o fear_v it_o shall_v light_v upon_o they_o quite_o take_v away_o the_o sweetness_n of_o the_o sin_n they_o commit_v and_o so_o make_v the_o sin_n itself_o a_o the_o wicked_a must_v be_v fit_v and_o be_v a_o prepare_v for_o their_o destruction_n which_o once_o come_v let_v they_o be_v sure_a afterward_o god_n will_v manifest_v his_o power_n will_v compensate_a his_o much_o long-suffering_a with_o the_o greatness_n of_o the_o judgement_n he_o bring_v on_o they_o now_o it_o be_v a_o fearful_a thing_n and_o a_o dangerous_a case_n when_o god_n suffer_v a_o man_n thus_o to_o grow_v and_o thrive_v in_o his_o sin_n that_o so_o his_o judgement_n may_v be_v the_o great_a consider_v three_o that_o such_o go_v on_o in_o their_o sin_n which_o hope_n to_o escape_v because_o they_o be_v not_o present_o punish_v 3_o they_o abuse_v the_o patience_n and_o long-suffering_a of_o god_n now_o the_o manifestation_n of_o god_n attribute_n be_v his_o name_n and_o who_o so_o abuse_v they_o take_v his_o name_n in_o vain_a and_o you_o know_v god_n will_v not_o hold_v he_o guiltless_a that_o take_v his_o name_n in_o vain_a let_v such_o then_o as_o thus_o abuse_v the_o patience_n of_o god_n think_v not_o that_o they_o shall_v escape_v the_o judgement_n of_o god_n but_o remember_v to_o take_v into_o consideration_n that_o place_n of_o the_o apostle_n rom._n 2._o 4_o 5_o 6._o where_o it_o be_v say_v despise_v thou_o o_o man_n the_o riches_n of_o 6._o his_o goodness_n and_o forbearance_n and_o long-suffering_a not_o know_v that_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n lead_v thou_o to_o repentance_n but_o after_o thy_o hardness_n and_o impenitent_a heart_n treasurest_n up_o unto_o thyself_o wrath_n against_o the_o day_n of_o wrath_n and_o
