life_n spiritual_a and_o supernatural_a comprehend_v and_o possess_v in_o itself_o all_o that_o life_n which_o christ_n now_o possess_v as_o well_o in_o body_n as_o in_o spirit_n who_o now_o have_v as_o yet_o that_o have_v take_v in_o hand_n the_o exposition_n thereof_o some_o peradventure_o will_v not_o stick_v to_o take_v these_o word_n so_o as_o that_o christ_n after_o his_o death_n on_o the_o cross_n go_v down_o into_o hell_n and_o preach_v to_o the_o soul_n there_o with_o which_o vain_a opinion_n i_o mean_v not_o here_o to_o enter_v disputation_n but_o i_o think_v these_o word_n do_v very_o well_o admit_v a_o other_o sense_n &_o meaning_n to_o wit_n that_o our_o lord_n christ_n after_o his_o ascension_n into_o heaven_n come_v in_o spirit_n and_o preach_v albeit_o not_o bodily_a for_o he_o speak_v not_o now_o with_o any_o bodily_a voice_n as_o he_o also_o use_v none_o of_o the_o other_o function_n of_o corporal_a or_o bodily_a nature_n and_o therefore_o let_v we_o take_v the_o word_n to_o signify_v and_o mean_v accord_v as_o they_o sound_v that_o be_v in_o spirit_n and_o that_o he_o preach_v to_o the_o spirit_n in_o that_o his_o spiritual_a life_n whereupon_o it_o also_o follow_v that_o his_o preach_v then_o be_v spiritual_a emplant_v the_o same_o in_o their_o heart_n and_o soul_n so_o that_o there_o be_v no_o need_n for_o he_o to_o go_v in_o body_n and_o preach_v with_o mouth_n for_o the_o same_o these_o word_n of_o saint_n peter_n prove_v not_o that_o after_o he_o die_v he_o go_v down_o unto_o the_o ghost_n that_o be_v in_o hell_n to_o preach_v unto_o they_o for_o he_o say_v thus_o in_o which_o he_o go_v etc._n etc._n which_o be_v asmuch_o as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v after_o he_o be_v dead_a accord_v to_o the_o flesh_n and_o quicken_v accord_v to_o the_o spirit_n that_o be_v after_o he_o have_v lay_v down_o and_o leave_v his_o life_n in_o the_o flesh_n and_o all_o other_o natural_a work_n and_o function_n of_o his_o body_n and_o have_v now_o take_v unto_o he_o a_o spiritual_a life_n and_o conversation_n as_o now_o he_o have_v and_o do_v in_o heaven_n then_o he_o go_v and_o preach_v to_o the_o spirit_n etc._n etc._n now_o it_o be_v most_o evident_a and_o certain_a that_o christ_n descend_v not_o eftsoon_o to_o hell_n after_o he_o have_v receive_v this_o his_o new_a glorify_a life_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v understande_v that_o he_o make_v this_o preach_n after_o his_o ascension_n into_o heaven_n see_v therefore_o that_o the_o word_n do_v well_o bear_v to_o be_v understand_v of_o a_o spiritual_a preach_n we_o be_v to_o think_v that_o s._n peter_n in_o this_o place_n speak_v of_o the_o office_n of_o christ_n for_o that_o as_o the_o word_n be_v outward_o preach_v by_o voice_n so_o work_v he_o inward_o in_o the_o heart_n he_o enjoin_v his_o apostle_n to_o preach_v the_o gospel_n bodily_a but_o yet_o be_v he_o himself_o present_v spiritual_o and_o whatsoever_o the_o apostle_n utter_v in_o outward_a now_o present_o live_v for_o his_o kingdom_n reach_v to_o the_o dead_a aswell_o as_o to_o the_o live_n in_o that_o life_n wherein_o he_o now_o live_v the_o beginning_n the_o middle_a and_o the_o end_n of_o the_o world_n be_v contain_v and_o reckon_v after_o one_o and_o the_o same_o account_n &_o all_o as_o one_o although_o in_o this_o life_n these_o thing_n be_v not_o reckon_v so_o but_o each_o thing_n accord_v to_o his_o orderly_a succession_n as_o the_o son_n after_o the_o father_n and_o so_o of_o other_o all_o thing_n
the_o same_o be_v this_o in_o effect_n which_o saint_n peter_n say_v in_o this_o place_n for_o it_o be_v asmuch_o as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v we_o certain_o look_v for_o eternal_a life_n although_o we_o live_v here_o on_o the_o earth_n yet_o no_o otherwise_o then_o by_o the_o resurrection_n of_o christ_n that_o be_v to_o say_v even_o therefore_o because_o he_o be_v rise_v again_o ascend_v into_o heaven_n and_o sit_v on_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o his_o father_n for_o this_o cause_n do_v he_o ascend_v that_o he_o may_v give_v unto_o we_o his_o spirit_n whereby_o be_v regenerate_v we_o may_v of_o they_o this_o if_o we_o steadfast_o believe_v we_o have_v a_o perfect_a assurance_n and_o full_a possession_n of_o all_o these_o benefit_n which_o be_v each_o way_n impossible_a to_o be_v bring_v howbeit_o we_o do_v not_o as_o yet_o â—ee_o the_o same_o these_o be_v word_n forcible_a and_o of_o wonderful_a efficacy_n and_o he_o in_o who_o mind_n they_o be_v firm_o fix_v will_v be_v as_o i_o think_v little_o move_v with_o desire_n of_o riches_n and_o pleasure_n of_o this_o world_n for_o how_o can_v it_o be_v that_o one_o shall_v so_o set_v his_o mind_n upon_o these_o transitory_a riches_n and_o delight_n if_o he_o believe_v those_o thing_n which_o be_v here_o speak_v for_o when_o worldly_a wealth_n and_o terrene_a treasure_n be_v compare_v to_o these_o thing_n it_o appear_v straight_o how_o those_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n endure_v but_o a_o small_a time_n and_o do_v soon_o pass_v away_o but_o these_o thing_n continue_v for_o ever_o and_o do_v never_o fail_v nor_o fade_v moreover_o all_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n be_v unpure_a and_o do_v defile_v we_o for_o there_o be_v no_o man_n here_o so_o godly_a but_o in_o one_o respect_n or_o other_o he_o be_v carry_v away_o and_o defile_v with_o the_o vanity_n and_o pleasant_a thing_n of_o this_o life_n but_o this_o inheritance_n be_v undefiled_a and_o pure_a and_o he_o that_o possess_v the_o same_o remain_v for_o ever_o immaculate_a final_o this_o inheritance_n do_v not_o fade_v do_v not_o decay_n neither_o be_v ever_o subject_a to_o any_o corruption_n but_o every_o yearthly_a thing_n although_o it_o be_v as_o hard_o as_o iron_n and_o stone_n be_v nevertheless_o change_v and_o continue_v not_o still_o as_o soon_o as_o man_n also_o become_v old_a his_o beauty_n be_v go_v and_o he_o become_v loathsome_a and_o unamiable_a howbeit_o this_o inheritance_n be_v far_o from_o mutation_n or_o change_n it_o always_o remain_v it_o be_v always_o fresh_a and_o flourish_v there_o be_v no_o pleasure_n so_o great_a on_o the_o earth_n which_o will_v not_o by_o continuance_n become_v loathsome_a and_o tedious_a as_o we_o see_v there_o be_v at_o the_o last_o a_o tediousness_n in_o all_o thing_n but_o our_o good_a thing_n here_o speak_v of_o be_v otherwise_o whereof_o there_o be_v not_o satiety_n for_o ever_o all_o which_o we_o obtain_v in_o christ_n through_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n when_o we_o firm_o believe_v that_o they_o be_v free_o give_v unto_o us._n for_o how_o shall_v we_o miserable_a man_n by_o our_o own_o work_n merit_v those_o so_o great_a good_a thing_n which_o no_o reason_n or_o understanding_n of_o man_n be_v able_a so_o much_o as_o to_o comprehend_v or_o by_o imagination_n of_o heart_n once_o to_o conceive_v reserve_v in_o heaven_n for_o you_o this_o inheritance_n immortal_a undefiled_a and_o that_o fade_v not_o away_o be_v undoubted_o we_o it_o be_v only_o for_o a_o little_a while_n remove_v and_o keep_v from_o our_o sight_n until_o these_o eye_n be_v close_v whereto_o i_o steadfast_o trust_v unto_o you_o therefore_o which_o believe_v it_o be_v precious_a but_o unto_o they_o which_o be_v disobedient_a the_o stone_n which_o the_o builder_n disallow_v thesame_n be_v make_v the_o head_n of_o the_o corner_n and_o a_o stone_n to_o stumble_v at_o and_o a_o rock_n of_o offence_n this_o most_o excellent_a and_o precious_a stone_n be_v unto_o some_o and_o how_o come_v this_o gear_n to_o pass_v forsooth_o the_o scripture_n speak_v of_o the_o same_o in_o two_o sort_n namely_o there_o be_v some_o that_o do_v believe_v on_o he_o and_o again_o there_o be_v many_o that_o do_v not_o believe_v on_o he_o now_o unto_o they_o that_o do_v believe_v on_o he_o he_o be_v precious_a and_o it_o can_v not_o be_v but_o their_o heart_n have_v still_o their_o hope_n trust_v and_o confidence_n in_o he_o must_v needs_o be_v excedyng_o cheer_v and_o make_v joyful_a and_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o he_o say_v unto_o you_o which_o believe_v on_o he_o he_o be_v precious_a that_o be_v to_o say_v he_o be_v of_o you_o high_o esteem_v for_o although_o he_o be_v never_o so_o precious_a and_o excellent_a of_o himself_o and_o by_o himself_o yet_o will_v that_o without_o more_o nothing_o at_o all_o avail_n we_o and_o therefore_o it_o behoove_v that_o he_o must_v be_v precious_a unto_o we_o to_o the_o end_n it_o may_v enrich_v we_o with_o many_o singular_a good_a thing_n like_a unto_o some_o precious_a pearl_n or_o gem_n which_o keep_v and_o retain_v not_o his_o virtue_n to_o itself_o but_o utter_v and_o show_v it_o forth_o to_o other_o and_o so_o totallie_o manife_v he_o his_o whole_a power_n and_o virtue_n that_o we_o may_v now_o both_o enjoy_v and_o possess_v whatsoever_o thesame_n be_v but_o unto_o they_o which_o believe_v not_o this_o stone_n be_v nothing_o precious_a for_o they_o disallow_v and_o cast_v it_o away_o and_o take_v offence_n and_o stumble_v at_o it_o whereby_o it_o fall_v out_o that_o they_o repose_v no_o assurance_n or_o trust_n in_o it_o and_o so_o unto_o they_o it_o turn_v unto_o a_o great_a detriment_n and_o make_v they_o worse_o albeit_o the_o same_o of_o his_o own_o nature_n be_v wont_v rather_o to_o stir_v up_o in_o man_n a_o more_o strong_a hope_n and_o perfect_a trust_n they_o that_o thus_o stumble_v be_v not_o only_o such_o as_o be_v chain_v and_o clog_v in_o those_o gross_a and_o manifest_a sin_n but_o such_o hypocrite_n rather_o which_o hear_v themselves_o bold_a upon_o their_o vizured_a sanctimony_n and_o feign_a holiness_n which_o trust_v unto_o their_o own_o freewill_n to_o their_o own_o work_n &_o their_o own_o righteousness_n these_o fellow_n can_v not_o choose_v but_o stumble_v and_o be_v offend_v at_o this_o stone_n here_o now_o do_v god_n definitive_o set_v it_o down_o that_o they_o which_o come_v without_o work_n must_v come_v by_o faith_n only_o for_o their_o righteousness_n and_o that_o they_o which_o come_v otherwise_o then_o by_o faith_n shall_v never_o speed_v of_o their_o purpose_n because_o they_o go_v about_o as_o saint_n peter_n say_v rom._n x._o to_o establish_v their_o salvation_n by_o their_o own_o righteousness_n and_o therefore_o say_v saint_n peter_n
