antichrist_n pompous_a estate_n be_v because_o they_o have_v not_o their_o mind_n set_v nor_o the_o eye_n of_o their_o soul_n fix_v on_o that_o wonderful_a and_o unutterable_a and_o inconceivable_a glory_n that_o for_o all_o christ_n faithful_a follower_n be_v prepare_v in_o heaven_n all_o the_o glory_n of_o antichrist_n will_v be_v vile_a in_o their_o eye_n if_o they_o so_o do_v vers._n 15._o thereby_o teach_v we_o that_o the_o main_a ground_n of_o our_o assurance_n of_o future_a

speak_v a_o good_a word_n for_o we_o to_o our_o superior_n upon_o earth_n how_o dear_a then_o shall_v they_o be_v unto_o we_o that_o in_o our_o misery_n speak_v unto_o god_n in_o our_o behalf_n second_o let_v no_o man_n think_v himself_o too_o good_a to_o pray_v &_o that_o continual_o for_o the_o poor_a distress_a saint_n of_o god_n be_v thou_o as_o good_a as_o paul_n or_o peter_n as_o great_a as_o solomon_n or_o david_n it_o will_v become_v thou_o to_o beg_v at_o the_o throne_n of_o god_n grace_n for_o thy_o poor_a brethren_n yea_o the_o better_a thou_o be_v and_o the_o worthy_a in_o the_o eye_n of_o god_n and_o man_n the_o better_a will_v this_o duty_n become_v thou_o and_o the_o more_o fit_v it_o will_v be_v for_o thou_o to_o perform_v the_o same_o for_o the_o more_o that_o a_o man_n be_v in_o grace_n and_o favour_n with_o god_n the_o more_o he_o ought_v to_o be_v humble_v with_o the_o sense_n of_o his_o brother_n want_n and_o shall_v the_o more_o use_n that_o interest_n which_o he_o have_v with_o god_n for_o their_o relief_n and_o as_o no_o man_n ought_v to_o think_v himself_o too_o good_a to_o pray_v for_o his_o brethren_n though_o he_o be_v as_o good_a as_o paul_n himself_o so_o ought_v none_o how_o holy_a soever_o think_v themselves_o too_o good_a to_o be_v pray_v for_o what_o a_o worthy_a church_n be_v this_o how_o do_v paul_n magnify_v it_o yet_o it_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o continual_a prayer_n and_o paul_n for_o their_o comfort_n tell_v they_o that_o he_o do_v pray_v continual_o for_o they_o whereby_o he_o declare_v that_o they_o desire_v the_o down_o visible_a and_o sensible_a vengeance_n upon_o the_o head_n of_o their_o persecutor_n though_o we_o can_v by_o mean_n of_o they_o open_v the_o prison_n gate_n and_o shake_v off_o their_o fetter_n or_o turn_v the_o heart_n of_o their_o enemy_n and_o they_o that_o molest_v they_o yet_o some_o blessing_n or_o other_o we_o may_v be_v assure_v to_o procure_v unto_o they_o for_o either_o the_o lord_n by_o this_o mean_n will_v in_o his_o good_a time_n remove_v the_o cross_n or_o mitigate_v it_o or_o give_v comfort_n in_o it_o or_o strength_n and_o patience_n to_o bear_v it_o or_o not_o suffer_v they_o to_o fall_v so_o grievous_o under_o it_o or_o bestow_v some_o better_a grace_n upon_o they_o then_o that_o which_o the_o cross_n deprive_v they_o of_o we_o may_v presume_v that_o have_v daily_o renew_v our_o suit_n and_o continual_o put_v the_o lord_n in_o remembrance_n thereof_o though_o we_o have_v other_o also_o be_v they_o prophet_n and_o apostle_n daily_o for_o many_o year_n together_o sue_v for_o we_o and_o yet_o we_o have_v receive_v no_o answer_n from_o god_n yet_o so_o long_o as_o god_n do_v not_o flat_o deny_v our_o request_n and_o do_v not_o forbid_v we_o to_o make_v the_o same_o let_v we_o not_o think_v much_o to_o wait_v the_o lord_n leisure_n but_o let_v we_o still_o in_o hope_n daily_o renew_v our_o suit_n unto_o he_o for_o in_o so_o do_v we_o shall_v be_v sure_a in_o the_o end_n to_o be_v no_o loser_n by_o wait_v the_o good_a pleasure_n of_o god_n that_o our_o lord_n will_v make_v you_o worthy_a this_o call_v second_o for_o the_o further_a comfort_n of_o this_o church_n he_o set_v down_o the_o special_a matter_n and_o content_n of_o his_o prayer_n contain_v 3_o petition_n the_o first_o petition_n according_a to_o the_o true_a meaning_n thereof_o be_v this_o that_o as_o the_o lord_n have_v vouchsafe_v they_o this_o honourable_a call_v to_o be_v christian_n and_o have_v give_v they_o grace_n even_o to_o suffer_v for_o christ_n and_o therein_o give_v they_o a_o pledge_n of_o their_o eternal_a glory_n with_o christ_n so_o it_o will_v please_v the_o lord_n to_o direct_v they_o and_o in_o that_o manner_n to_o be_v present_a with_o they_o especial_o in_o these_o time_n of_o trial_n and_o persecution_n that_o they_o may_v approve_v and_o show_v themselves_o before_o god_n and_o man_n to_o be_v worthy_a christian_n and_o that_o they_o may_v not_o in_o word_n or_o deed_n through_o frailty_n and_o infirmity_n do_v any_o thing_n that_o may_v blemish_v and_o stain_v their_o profession_n or_o that_o may_v be_v unbeseeming_a or_o unworthy_a the_o name_n of_o christian_n he_o do_v not_o then_o so_o much_o entreat_v the_o lord_n to_o free_v they_o from_o trouble_n and_o persecution_n and_o to_o deliver_v they_o from_o their_o enemy_n as_o that_o they_o may_v acquit_v and_o behave_v themselves_o worthy_o and_o valiant_o as_o it_o become_v the_o soldier_n of_o jesus_n christ._n a_o prayer_n very_o necessary_a for_o such_o time_n and_o person_n our_o experience_n will_v serve_v to_o teach_v we_o how_o many_o christian_n in_o time_n of_o peace_n and_o prosperity_n have_v make_v a_o worthy_a and_o glorious_a profession_n which_o in_o time_n of_o persecution_n and_o trouble_n have_v discover_v much_o unworthiness_n yea_o many_o for_o a_o good_a time_n have_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o many_o trial_n show_v themselves_o

they_o may_v constant_o persevere_v in_o the_o practice_n and_o performance_n of_o those_o thing_n that_o by_o the_o apostle_n be_v enjoin_v they_o the_o apostle_n wish_v unto_o they_o the_o principal_a mean_n whereby_o they_o may_v persevere_v in_o evangelicall_a obedience_n to_o the_o ministry_n to_o wit_n that_o their_o heart_n may_v be_v direct_v by_o god_n to_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o the_o patient_a expectation_n of_o christ._n by_o the_o lord_n here_o seem_v to_o be_v understand_v the_o holy_a ghost_n as_o by_o god_n god_n the_o father_n and_o so_o have_v we_o the_o three_o person_n here_o distinct_o set_v down_o the_o word_n 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d signify_v by_o a_o right_a line_n to_o direct_v one_o to_o somewhat_o now_o the_o lord_n be_v say_v to_o direct_v the_o heart_n when_o he_o turn_v it_o to_o some_o thing_n cause_v it_o to_o affect_v it_o and_o delight_n in_o it_o which_o before_o it_o be_v estrange_v from_o and_o abhor_v 〈◊〉_d the_o patient_a expectation_n of_o christ_n be_v such_o a_o expectation_n of_o he_o as_o whereby_o expect_v all_o benefit_n by_o he_o we_o be_v encourage_v patient_o to_o endure_v any_o thing_n for_o he_o hence_o we_o gather_v 1._o that_o these_o two_o thing_n be_v principal_o necessary_a unto_o godly_a perseverance_n such_o as_o be_v speak_v of_o before_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o the_o patient_a expectation_n of_o christ._n for_o the_o love_n of_o some_o good_a thing_n past_a or_o present_a and_o the_o expectation_n of_o some_o future_a good_a be_v wont_a to_o make_v we_o more_o cheerful_a in_o the_o do_n of_o our_o duty_n unless_o therefore_o a_o man_n heart_n be_v inflame_v with_o the_o love_n of_o god_n who_o in_o the_o gospel_n he_o yield_v obedience_n unto_o as_o also_o unless_o he_o be_v possess_v with_o a_o earnest_a expectation_n of_o christ_n and_o a_o longing_n for_o he_o that_o so_o he_o may_v work_v with_o much_o patience_n in_o hope_n of_o reward_n our_o evangelicall_a obedience_n will_v soon_o wax_v faint_a but_o a_o heart_n inspire_v with_o these_o grace_n will_v stir_v up_o the_o whole_a man_n to_o do_v every_o thing_n command_v in_o the_o gospel_n with_o all_o constancy_n and_o contrariwise_o where_o this_o constancy_n of_o obedience_n be_v not_o it_o be_v a_o sign_n that_o this_o love_n of_o god_n and_o this_o expectation_n of_o christ_n be_v whole_o want_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o such_o 2._o that_o even_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o faithful_a be_v in_o their_o own_o nature_n estrange_v from_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o the_o expectation_n of_o christ_n insomuch_o that_o they_o will_v whole_o swerve_v and_o wander_v from_o either_o be_v they_o carry_v by_o their_o own_o proper_a motion_n which_o will_v rather_o carry_v they_o to_o a_o hatred_n of_o god_n and_o a_o despair_n of_o christ._n 3._o the_o heart_n be_v direct_v dispose_v and_o move_v by_o god_n alone_o who_o direct_v it_o as_o by_o a_o straight_a line_n to_o the_o love_n of_o himself_o and_o to_o the_o expectation_n of_o christ_n i._o of_o eternal_a salvation_n in_o and_o by_o christ._n will_v a_o pastor_n therefore_o have_v his_o people_n persevere_v in_o well-doing_n according_a to_o the_o precept_n of_o the_o gospel_n let_v he_o by_o earnest_a prayer_n entreat_v of_o god_n that_o he_o will_v be_v please_v to_o direct_v their_o heart_n to_o the_o love_n of_o himself_o and_o the_o expectation_n of_o his_o christ._n vers._n 6._o we_o charge_v you_o brethren_z in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ._n here_o begin_v the_o six_o part_n of_o this_o epistle_n which_o contain_v a_o christian_a reprehension_n lay_v down_o in_o form_n of_o a_o denunciation_n and_o it_o be_v general_n vers_fw-la 6_o 11_o special_a vers_fw-la 11_o 16_o in_o the_o general_a denunciation_n come_v to_o be_v consider_v 1._o the_o manner_n 2._o the_o matter_n in_o the_o manner_n he_o show_v 1._o with_o what_o affection_n 2._o with_o what_o authority_n he_o use_v this_o denunciation_n 1._o his_o affection_n appear_v in_o the_o title_n of_o brethren_n which_o he_o oft_o repeat_v in_o this_o short_a epistle_n thereby_o teach_v how_o necessary_a it_o be_v for_o the_o edification_n of_o other_o that_o our_o brotherly_a love_n towards_o they_o do_v oft_o appear_v to_o they_o neither_o can_v we_o hope_v that_o either_o our_o exhortation_n or_o admonition_n much_o less_o our_o reprehension_n shall_v prevail_v aught_o with_o other_o unless_o they_o be_v heat_v with_o brotherly_a love_n and_o appear_v evident_o to_o stream_n from_o a_o heart_n fraught_v with_o it_o evil_a therefore_o perform_v they_o these_o office_n who_o admonition_n and_o reprehension_n be_v dip_v in_o gall_n and_o vinegar_n and_o yet_o alas_o such_o be_v the_o reproof_n of_o most_o christian_n nothing_o for_o the_o most_o part_n but_o purgation_n of_o their_o own_o rancour_n and_o choler_n 2._o his_o authority_n follow_v he_o charge_v they_o in_o the_o name_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n that_o be_v by_o that_o authority_n which_o he_o have_v from_o christ._n he_o give_v no_o charge_n in_o his_o own_o name_n but_o in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n his_o and_o their_o sovereign_a lord_n wherein_o we_o be_v teach_v that_o our_o denunciation_n and_o reprehension_n if_o they_o be_v true_o christian_a one_o must_v be_v ground_v upon_o the_o authority_n of_o christ_n and_o minister_n ought_v to_o take_v heed_n that_o they_o presume_v not_o to_o reprove_v aught_o but_o what_o
do_v offer_v we_o the_o least_o wrong_a but_o christ_n our_o lord_n do_v thereupon_o bind_v he_o by_o strong_a bond_n then_o if_o he_o be_v in_o fetter_n or_o stock_n to_o be_v forth_o come_v at_o in_o hell_n let_v this_o malice_n be_v far_o from_o all_o christian_a heart_n and_o that_o it_o may_v be_v far_o from_o we_o let_v we_o often_o meditate_v upon_o this_o first_o end_n of_o christ_n come_v to_o judgement_n verse_n 10._o when_o he_o shall_v come_v to_o be_v glorify_v in_o his_o saint_n and_o to_o be_v make_v wonderful_a in_o all_o they_o that_o believe_v in_o these_o word_n be_v contain_v the_o second_o end_n of_o christ_n come_v to_o judgement_n which_o be_v the_o glorify_v of_o his_o saint_n the_o violence_n of_o his_o rage_n and_o fury_n against_o the_o wicked_a do_v not_o make_v he_o forget_v his_o grace_n &_o love_n to_o the_o godly_a but_o the_o more_o he_o shall_v in_o that_o day_n manifest_v his_o wrath_n and_o fury_n against_o the_o one_o the_o more_o shall_v his_o wonderful_a grace_n and_o love_n break_v forth_o towards_o the_o other_o to_o be_v glorify_v in_o his_o saint_n and_o to_o be_v make_v wonderful_a in_o they_o that_o believe_v be_v in_o such_o a_o manner_n to_o glorify_v they_o that_o all_o the_o world_n shall_v wonder_v and_o be_v astonish_v at_o that_o unspeakable_a glory_n wherewith_o he_o will_v glorify_v they_o and_o in_o their_o glory_n glorify_v himself_o but_o what_o will_v not_o christ_n also_o be_v glorify_v and_o make_v wonderful_a in_o the_o damnation_n of_o the_o wicked_a yes_o out_o of_o all_o question_n the_o lord_n wrong_n that_o they_o have_v offer_v unto_o they_o shall_v their_o judgement_n be_v the_o heavy_a but_o there_o will_v be_v incomparable_a more_o cause_n of_o glorify_v god_n and_o of_o wonder_v at_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o majesty_n in_o the_o salvation_n of_o believer_n for_o alas_o the_o wicked_a in_o that_o day_n shall_v have_v but_o their_o desert_n but_o this_o be_v the_o wonder_n of_o wonder_n that_o the_o lord_n shall_v bestow_v such_o infinite_a and_o exceed_a glory_n upon_o those_o that_o believe_v without_o the_o least_o merit_n on_o their_o part_n yea_o when_o on_o their_o own_o part_n they_o have_v deserve_v the_o same_o vengeance_n that_o be_v inflict_v upon_o the_o reprobate_n what_o a_o glory_n must_v this_o need_v be_v unto_o christ_n how_o shall_v it_o fill_v the_o mouth_n of_o all_o the_o saint_n and_o angel_n in_o heaven_n with_o the_o praise_n of_o this_o god_n how_o shall_v the_o saint_n see_v their_o own_o glory_n and_o the_o glory_n one_o of_o another_o wonder_v at_o their_o own_o glory_n wonder_v at_o the_o glory_n one_o of_o another_o and_o wonder_v at_o the_o incomprehensible_a love_n of_o god_n towards_o they_o therein_o how_o shall_v the_o potentate_n and_o great_a prince_n of_o the_o earth_n that_o have_v despise_v and_o trample_v under_o their_o foot_n in_o this_o world_n the_o poor_a servant_n of_o christ_n now_o wonder_v at_o their_o glory_n how_o shall_v all_o the_o devil_n and_o damn_a reprobate_n to_o their_o great_a torment_n wonder_v and_o be_v amaze_v thereat_o oh_o how_o wonderful_a shall_v the_o lord_n be_v in_o this_o day_n to_o all_o the_o world_n in_o that_o glory_n which_o then_o he_o will_v bestow_v upon_o his_o despise_a and_o contemn_a servant_n howsoever_o than_o the_o lord_n in_o this_o world_n do_v glorify_v himself_o by_o many_o mean_n howsoever_o he_o be_v glorious_a and_o wonderful_a not_o only_o in_o the_o creation_n of_o the_o world_n but_o also_o in_o the_o general_a &_o particular_a government_n thereof_o yet_o in_o this_o day_n he_o will_v exceed_v in_o glorify_v himself_o in_o &_o by_o that_o special_a glory_n that_o he_o will_v then_o bestow_v upon_o his_o servant_n all_o his_o glory_n shall_v be_v their_o glory_n &_o he_o will_v be_v make_v glorious_a &_o wonderful_a by_o the_o reflection_n of_o that_o wonderful_a glory_n which_o in_o that_o day_n he_o will_v bestow_v upon_o they_o but_o what_o person_n be_v they_o that_o christ_n will_v be_v glorify_v and_o make_v wonderful_a in_o saint_n and_o believer_n saint_n and_o believer_n be_v all_o one_o a_o man_n can_v be_v a_o saint_n that_o be_v not_o a_o true_a believer_n and_o he_o do_v not_o true_o believe_v who_o do_v not_o so_o believe_v as_o that_o upon_o the_o same_o he_o become_v a_o saint_n a_o saint_n than_o be_v he_o who_o even_o in_o this_o life_n forsake_v his_o sin_n and_o endeavour_v to_o serve_v and_o please_v god_n according_a to_o his_o own_o will_n reveal_v in_o the_o gospel_n to_o believe_v be_v in_o that_o effectual_a manner_n to_o know_v and_o give_v credit_n unto_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o the_o promise_n thereof_o as_o that_o we_o be_v willing_a to_o yield_v all_o obedience_n therein_o require_v to_o god_n for_o christ_n sake_n to_o believe_v be_v it_o that_o make_v a_o saint_n to_o be_v a_o saint_n 18_o manifest_v that_o a_o man_n believe_v that_o belief_n be_v no_o belief_n that_o make_v not_o a_o saint_n that_o saint_n be_v a_o devil_n that_o do_v not_o believe_v will_v any_o of_o we_o then_o belove_v be_v assure_v whether_o in_o that_o great_a day_n we_o shall_v be_v among_o the_o number_n of_o they_o that_o christ_n will_v be_v glorify_v in_o we_o must_v examine_v ourselves_o whether_o we_o be_v saint_n and_o believer_n whether_o we_o be_v believe_v saint_n and_o holy_a believer_n do_v we_o give_v no_o credit_n to_o the_o gospel_n do_v we_o wilful_o disobey_v the_o same_o do_v we_o delight_v in_o profaneness_n and_o such_o like_a sin_n contrary_a to_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n can_v the_o voice_n of_o christ_n in_o the_o gospel_n either_o by_o threaten_n or_o promise_n restrain_v we_o from_o unholy_a and_o un-saintlike_a course_n from_o our_o profanation_n of_o the_o sabbath_n our_o blaspheme_n drunkenness_n scurrility_n maliciousness_n etc._n etc._n be_v we_o scorner_n and_o derider_n of_o they_o that_o refrain_v from_o our_o over_o profane_a course_n do_v we_o despise_v and_o hate_v and_o persecute_v as_o much_o as_o lie_v in_o we_o the_o most_o effectual_a mean_n whereby_o man_n become_v saint_n and_o believer_n if_o we_o be_v such_o as_o it_o be_v to_o be_v fear_v that_o some_o of_o we_o be_v little_o better_o than_o such_o the_o devil_n and_o damn_a wretch_n in_o hell_n have_v asmuch_o cause_n as_o we_o to_o hope_v that_o christ_n will_v be_v glorify_v and_o make_v wonderful_a in_o they_o neither_o can_v we_o so_o long_o as_o we_o remain_v such_o expect_v that_o the_o lord_n in_o this_o day_n shall_v any_o otherwise_o be_v glorify_v and_o make_v wonderful_a in_o we_o then_o in_o the_o devil_n and_o all_o reprobate_a person_n this_o doctrine_n be_v believe_v will_v gracious_a and_o merciful_a unto_o we_o we_o shall_v not_o for_o all_o that_o be_v glorify_v in_o christ_n and_o thus_o much_o of_o the_o three_o part_n of_o this_o epistle_n the_o second_o chapter_n vers._n 1._o we_o beseech_v you_o brethren_z by_o the_o come_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o by_o our_o assemble_v unto_o he_o 2._o that_o you_o be_v not_o sudden_o move_v from_o your_o mind_n nor_o trouble_v neither_o by_o spirit_n nor_o word_n nor_o by_o letter_n as_o from_o we_o as_o though_o the_o day_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v at_o hand_n 3._o let_v no_o man_n deceive_v you_o by_o any_o mean_n the_o four_o part_n of_o this_o epistle_n follow_v which_o be_v a_o brotherly_a admonition_n wherein_o we_o be_v to_o consider_v 1._o the_o form_n 2._o the_o matter_n in_o the_o form_n the_o apostle_n express_v with_o what_o heart_n and_o affection_n he_o admonish_v they_o and_o therein_o be_v a_o worthy_a precedent_n unto_o all_o christian_n what_o love_v heart_n and_o feel_a affection_n they_o ought_v to_o bring_v with_o they_o in_o admonish_v one_o of_o another_o and_o first_o he_o style_v they_o as_o in_o the_o sense_n and_o feel_n of_o that_o spirit_n by_o which_o he_o write_v he_o esteem_v they_o brethren_n wherein_o he_o declare_v not_o only_o a_o special_a love_n and_o affection_n to_o the_o cause_n but_o also_o to_o the_o person_n of_o they_o he_o admonish_v for_o the_o person_n of_o brethren_n where_o there_o be_v any_o nature_n or_o grace_n among_o they_o be_v dear_a one_o unto_o another_o in_o regard_n of_o that_o natural_a bond_n whereby_o they_o be_v mutual_o knit_v one_o to_o another_o so_o that_o in_o this_o very_a name_n of_o brother_n which_o he_o give_v they_o there_o shine_v a_o great_a love_n and_o affection_n in_o the_o apostle_n towards_o the_o person_n of_o all_o in_o this_o church_n and_o from_o this_o love_n do_v this_o admonition_n flow_v and_o from_o the_o like_a love_n and_o affection_n ought_v all_o christian_a admonition_n to_o flow_v will_v thou_o effectual_o admonish_v a_o other_o thou_o can_v never_o do_v it_o until_o thou_o show_v thyself_o a_o brother_n unto_o he_o thou_o must_v let_v he_o see_v that_o thy_o admonition_n stream_v a_o brotherly_a affection_n and_o that_o that_o be_v the_o very_a ground_n and_o cause_n thereof_o so_o that_o if_o thou_o do_v not_o esteem_v and_o love_v he_o as_o a_o brother_n thou_o will_v not_o admonish_v he_o on_o the_o contrary_a side_n those_o admonition_n that_o flow_v from_o gall_n and_o choler_n or_o from_o malice_n and_o hatred_n of_o the_o person_n brethren_n 2._o in_o this_o admonition_n he_o love_o entreat_v and_o beseech_v they_o to_o take_v heed_n unto_o themselves_o as_o he_o call_v they_o brethren_n so_o he_o behave_v himself_o towards_o they_o as_o a_o brother_n in_o the_o whole_a tenor_n of_o his_o admonition_n for_o in_o meek_a sweet_a and_o brotherly_a manner_n he_o pray_v and_o beseech_v they_o to_o beware_v and_o to_o take_v heed_n and_o do_v not_o in_o a_o imperious_a and_o control_a manner_n require_v the_o same_o though_o he_o be_v their_o superior_a wherein_o he_o show_v a_o tender_a and_o compassionate_a heart_n esteem_v their_o danger_n to_o err_v as_o it_o be_v his_o own_o hurt_n and_o their_o freedom_n from_o error_n as_o his_o own_o good_a for_o when_o man_n of_o their_o own_o mere_a motion_n do_v become_v suitor_n and_o suppliant_n unto_o other_o though_o it_o be_v for_o other_o yet_o they_o declare_v therein_o that_o they_o themselves_o have_v a_o interest_n in_o that_o good_a which_o they_o sue_v for_o the_o apostle_n carry_v not_o himself_o as_o we_o often_o use_v to_o do_v in_o our_o admonition_n and_o warning_n of_o other_o he_o bid_v they_o not_o in_o a_o insult_a manner_n look_v to_o themselves_o and_o take_v heed_n of_o such_o and_o such_o matter_n say_v they_o have_v a_o fair_a warning_n thank_v themselves_o if_o they_o do_v otherwise_o then_o they_o ought_v to_o do_v and_o look_v not_o to_o be_v pity_v of_o they_o but_o he_o beseech_v and_o intreat_v they_o and_o therein_o profess_v that_o it_o shall_v do_v he_o much_o good_a if_o they_o will_v take_v warning_n and_o madness_n but_o how_o do_v most_o of_o we_o swerve_v in_o our_o passion_n when_o we_o come_v to_o admonish_v our_o brethren_n sometime_o in_o our_o admonition_n we_o show_v neither_o love_n nor_o zeal_n but_o admonish_v they_o in_o that_o manner_n as_o though_o we_o care_v not_o whither_o they_o hearken_v to_o we_o or_o no._n sometime_o we_o show_v love_n but_o no_o zeal_n sometime_o hot_a to_o vex_v and_o disquiet_v they_o which_o be_v indeed_o a_o special_a property_n of_o a_o wicked_a man_n and_o that_o principal_o which_o we_o call_v wickedness_n from_o such_o person_n as_o these_o paul_n desire_v to_o be_v deliver_v and_o to_o this_o end_n desire_v the_o prayer_n of_o this_o church_n whence_o let_v we_o note_v these_o point_n follow_v 1._o that_o those_o which_o principal_o oppose_v the_o gospel_n of_o jesus_n christ_n hinder_v the_o free_a passage_n thereof_o be_v shameless_a vile_a and_o absurd_a man_n such_o as_o care_v not_o what_o man_n think_v or_o speak_v of_o they_o so_o they_o may_v bring_v about_o their_o lewd_a desire_n man_n who_o industry_n and_o labour_n be_v spend_v in_o bring_v labour_n &_o molestation_n and_o vexation_n upon_o they_o that_o will_v not_o run_v forth_o with_o themselves_o into_o the_o same_o riot_n and_o the_o gospel_n the_o more_o it_o show_v itself_o the_o more_o will_v it_o discover_v the_o shamelessness_n &_o grossness_n and_o wickedness_n of_o they_o that_o be_v the_o enemy_n thereof_o so_o that_o they_o which_o before_o the_o publish_n thereof_o have_v have_v the_o name_n of_o modest_a wise_a discreet_a man_n shall_v the_o more_o they_o oppose_v against_o the_o same_o show_v themselves_o the_o more_o absurd_a and_o wicked_a no_o modest_a no_o good_a man_n can_v be_v a_o enemy_n to_o the_o gospel_n but_o such_o only_a as_o nourish_v in_o they_o some_o gross_a wickedness_n which_o the_o gospel_n discover_v in_o regard_n whereof_o they_o hate_v the_o gospel_n and_o all_o good_a mean_n of_o the_o knowledge_n thereof_o and_o out_o of_o this_o hatred_n of_o the_o gospel_n &_o desire_v still_o to_o hide_v their_o sin_n the_o more_o they_o seek_v to_o hide_v they_o the_o more_o they_o discover_v they_o 2._o there_o be_v never_o any_o time_n of_o the_o gospel_n so_o happy_a as_o to_o be_v free_a from_o such_o let_n and_o impediment_n even_o in_o the_o primitive_a time_n thereof_o when_o it_o be_v most_o pure_o and_o powerful_o preach_v and_o shine_v in_o the_o fullness_n of_o glory_n without_o the_o stain_n and_o blemish_n of_o man_n invention_n yet_o be_v there_o impudent_a shameless_a and_o gross_a man_n that_o oppose_v against_o it_o and_o hinder_v oftentimes_o the_o free_a passage_n thereof_o and_o therefore_o never_o let_v we_o look_v to_o see_v those_o happy_a day_n wherein_o the_o gospel_n shall_v have_v no_o let_n but_o shall_v have_v a_o free_a course_n and_o further_o be_v the_o person_n that_o carry_v the_o gospel_n never_o so_o worthy_a of_o never_o so_o eminent_a gift_n speaking_z with_o never_o such_o evidence_n and_o demonstration_n of_o truth_n yet_o all_o this_o will_v not_o suffice_v to_o get_v the_o gospel_n a_o free_a passage_n but_o be_v all_o the_o minister_n of_o christ_n of_o as_o worthy_a gift_n as_o peter_n and_o paul_n yet_o shall_v they_o find_v face_n that_o dare_v and_o will_v resist_v they_o and_o despise_v the_o gospel_n bring_v by_o they_o yea_o the_o worthy_a gift_n that_o a_o minister_n have_v and_o the_o more_o grace_n he_o come_v attend_v withal_o the_o more_o opposition_n shall_v he_o find_v we_o shall_v not_o therefore_o be_v dismay_v when_o we_o meet_v with_o gross_a and_o wicked_a man_n have_v the_o apostle_n yea_o christ_n himself_o for_o our_o companion_n therein_o but_o let_v we_o learn_v by_o our_o own_o prayer_n &_o by_o the_o help_n of_o other_o to_o seek_v to_o be_v free_v from_o they_o and_o let_v we_o assure_v ourselves_o that_o there_o be_v great_a force_n in_o our_o prayer_n to_o that_o end_n both_o for_o own_o and_o other_o deliverance_n and_o when_o we_o see_v wicked_a and_o perverse_a man_n prevail_v against_o the_o gospel_n let_v we_o fear_v that_o we_o be_v defective_a in_o this_o duty_n and_o let_v it_o stir_v we_o up_o the_o more_o unto_o the_o same_o these_o be_v the_o weapon_n wherewith_o we_o be_v to_o fight_v for_o this_o liberty_n thus_o be_v the_o flock_n to_o fight_v for_o their_o pastor_n and_o these_o be_v such_o weapon_n as_o can_v be_v take_v from_o the_o servant_n of_o christ._n and_o they_o be_v such_o wherewith_o they_o so_o wound_v the_o advers_a party_n as_o they_o can_v save_v themselves_o for_o all_o man_n have_v not_o faith_n in_o these_o word_n he_o prevent_v a_o secret_a doubt_n that_o may_v arise_v in_o their_o mind_n upon_o the_o deprecation_n aforesaid_a for_o they_o may_v marvel_v with_o themselves_o what_o shall_v be_v the_o reason_n that_o any_o shall_v be_v so_o peevish_a and_o wicked_a as_o to_o molest_v they_o for_o bring_v so_o acceptable_a a_o message_n as_o this_o especial_o they_o have_v such_o gift_n and_o abiliment_n to_o make_v good_a the_o same_o unto_o the_o heart_n and_o conscience_n of_o any_o reasonable_a man_n he_o therefore_o tell_v they_o that_o faith_n belong_v not_o unto_o all_o i._o all_o have_v not_o grace_v give_v they_o of_o god_n to_o believe_v and_o embrace_v the_o gospel_n and_o therefore_o that_o such_o will_v be_v sure_a to_o oppose_v themselves_o against_o the_o doctrine_n of_o it_o and_o with_o might_n and_o main_a hinder_v the_o free_a course_n thereof_o for_o which_o cause_n he_o will_v have_v they_o in_o this_o regard_n to_o pray_v for_o he_o and_o his_o fellow-labourer_n whence_o we_o learn_v 1._o that_o there_o be_v some_o sort_n of_o man_n to_o who_o faith_n do_v not_o appertain_v and_o by_o consequent_a salvation_n whereof_o faith_n be_v the_o evidence_n the_o holy_a ghost_n phrase_n be_v more_o than_o our_o translation_n sound_v for_o faith_n may_v appertain_v to_o they_o that_o have_v it_o not_o but_o it_o may_v more_o full_o be_v translate_v faith_n belong_v not_o to_o all_o but_o it_o be_v a_o gift_n that_o god_n in_o mercy_n will_v bestow_v upon_o some_o person_n only_o even_o upon_o those_o alone_a that_o he_o have_v resolute_o purpose_v to_o bestow_v heaven_n upon_o and_o upon_o no_o other_o hence_o be_v it_o call_v the_o faith_n of_o the_o elect._n 1.1_o and_o in_o the_o act_v it_o be_v say_v â—8_o that_o so_o many_o as_o be_v ordain_v to_o life_n everlasting_a believe_v 1._o the_o use_v hereof_o may_v be_v to_o stir_v we_o up_o to_o strive_v to_o know_v whether_o we_o be_v among_o the_o number_n of_o they_o unto_o who_o faith_n appertain_v for_o till_o then_o we_o can_v know_v whither_o we_o be_v of_o the_o number_n of_o they_o that_o shall_v be_v save_v 2._o hence_o it_o appear_v that_o it_o be_v not_o in_o the_o power_n of_o any_o outward_a mean_n whatsoever_o to_o beget_v faith_n in_o they_o unto_o who_o it_o belong_v not_o if_o paul_n himself_o shall_v preach_v the_o gospel_n never_o so_o sincere_o and_o powerful_o if_o he_o shall_v confirm_v it_o with_o never_o such_o miracle_n yet_o be_v not_o this_o enough_o to_o beget_v faith_n in_o they_o it_o be_v the_o lord_n own_o immediate_a work_n to_o bow_v and_o frame_v the_o heart_n unto_o the_o word_n otherwise_o the_o more_o powerful_o it_o be_v preach_v and_o by_o the_o more_o miracle_n it_o be_v confirm_v the_o more_o peevish_a and_o wicked_a man_n show_v themselves_o against_o it_o else_o it_o can_v not_o be_v but_o all_o man_n that_o the_o apostle_n preach_v unto_o shall_v have_v faith_n if_o the_o outward_a mean_n alone_o be_v sufficient_a which_o show_v the_o vain_a conceit_n of_o they_o which_o think_v they_o may_v easy_o believe_v when_o they_o list_v themselves_o whereas_o except_o the_o lord_n give_v the_o gift_n they_o shall_v not_o believe_v though_o lie_v on_o their_o deathbed_n they_o shall_v have_v peter_n and_o paul_n preach_v to_o they_o and_o what_o hope_n can_v man_n have_v that_o god_n will_v bestow_v that_o gift_n upon_o they_o at_o their_o death_n which_o when_o he_o offer_v they_o they_o despise_v in_o their_o life_n 3._o it_o be_v a_o fearful_a sign_n of_o a_o man_n that_o faith_n belong_v not_o unto_o when_o he_o show_v himself_o
