few_o for_o who_o of_o we_o will_v lose_v one_o head_n for_o he_o ignatius_n in_o former_a time_n say_v he_o be_v willing_a to_o endure_v fire_n cross_n butchery_n and_o all_o for_o christ_n but_o these_o be_v the_o latter_a day_n and_o though_o his_o love_n be_v hot_a we_o be_v grow_v cold_a we_o can_v scarce_o endure_v a_o word_n a_o jeer_n a_o scoff_n for_o christ_n well_o i_o beseech_v you_o sit_v and_o sigh_v and_o say_v oh_o how_o mean_o do_v we_o requite_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n he_o be_v bear_v live_v die_v out_o of_o love_n to_o we_o but_o we_o be_v so_o far_o from_o die_v for_o christ_n that_o we_o scarce_o be_v willing_a to_o live_v to_o jesus_n christ_n three_o in_o as_o much_o as_o christ_n thus_o love_v you_o o_o believer_n with_o a_o transcendent_a love_n be_v you_o satisfy_v herewith_o and_o be_v content_a if_o it_o must_v be_v so_o to_o want_v the_o love_n of_o man_n it_o be_v a_o shame_n that_o any_o who_o be_v the_o belove_a of_o christ_n shall_v mourn_v for_o not_o be_v love_v of_o the_o creature_n why_o shall_v the_o king_n daughter_n who_o have_v or_o at_o least_o shall_v forget_v her_o kindred_n and_o her_o father_n house_n why_o i_o say_v shall_v she_o i.e._n the_o believe_a soul_n weep_v because_o the_o scullion_n scorn_v she_o when_o the_o king_n himself_o embrace_v she_o it_o be_v but_o meet_v that_o you_o shall_v rest_v satisfy_v in_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n since_o it_o be_v so_o transcendent_a wherefore_o drink_v water_n out_o of_o thy_o own_o cistern_n o_o christian_n and_o as_o solomon_n say_v rejoice_v with_o the_o wife_n or_o rather_o with_o christ_n the_o husband_n of_o thy_o youth_n let_v he_o be_v as_o the_o love_a hind_n and_o pleasant_a roe_n let_v his_o breast_n satisfy_v thou_o at_o all_o time_n do_v not_o err_v in_o mourn_v for_o the_o want_n or_o hunt_v after_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o creature-love_n but_o err_v always_o or_o as_o we_o render_v it_o be_v ravish_v always_o with_o his_o love_n bath_n thyself_o oh_o believer_n always_o in_o christ_n bosom_n live_v upon_o and_o be_v content_v with_o his_o love_n let_v other_o sip_v and_o drink_v if_o they_o will_v be_v so_o weak_a of_o the_o puddle_n water_n of_o the_o creature_n love_v while_o thou_o as_o wise_a neither_o envy_v nor_o desire_v to_o partake_v with_o they_o sure_o do_v you_o but_o remember_v this_o that_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n towards_o you_o pass_v knowledge_n you_o will_v not_o be_v discontent_v at_o the_o want_n of_o the_o love_n of_o any_o or_o all_o the_o creature_n consider_v therefore_o that_o it_o be_v such_o be_v you_o content_v with_o it_o it_o be_v a_o sign_n that_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n pass_v thy_o knowledge_n in_o the_o transcendent_a worth_n thereof_o if_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o knowledge_n we_o be_v yet_o upon_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o transcendency_n of_o christ_n love_n to_o believer_n and_o oh_o how_o sweet_a be_v it_o to_o lose_v ourselves_o in_o this_o consideration_n how_o loath_a be_o i_o to_o leave_v a_o point_n of_o such_o infinite_a necessity_n and_o sweetness_n how_o glad_o can_v i_o not_o only_o live_v but_o die_v in_o the_o declaration_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n to_o believer_n i_o doubt_v not_o but_o the_o very_a mention_n of_o the_o point_n that_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n to_o believer_n be_v a_o transcendent_a love_n make_v the_o heart_n of_o you_o to_o leap_v for_o joy_n tell_v i_o o_o believer_n can_v thou_o not_o wish_v to_o have_v thy_o care_n ever_o follow_v with_o this_o sound_n that_o christ_n love_v thou_o with_o a_o love_n pass_v knowledge_n something_o we_o have_v already_o hint_v and_o something_o more_o we_o shall_v add_v at_o this_o time_n yet_o because_o when_o i_o have_v say_v all_o that_o i_o can_v about_o the_o transcendency_n of_o christ_n love_n to_o believer_n i_o shall_v come_v many_o thousand_o step_n short_a of_o its_o height_n i_o be_o resolve_v to_o say_v all_o that_o i_o intend_v to_o this_o point_n at_o this_o time_n therefore_o a_o little_a more_o to_o demonstrate_v this_o that_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n pass_v knowledge_n i_o shall_v entreat_v you_o to_o view_v first_o his_o command_n over_o they_o second_o his_o care_n for_o they_o three_o his_o endeavour_n not_o only_o to_o declare_v to_o but_o to_o persuade_v believer_n of_o this_o love_n love_v christ_n command_n speak_v love_v first_o if_o we_o do_v consider_v the_o command_n which_o christ_n exercise_v over_o believer_n we_o shall_v see_v the_o transcendency_n of_o his_o affection_n even_o in_o that_o it_o be_v christ_n glory_n that_o he_o be_v the_o king_n of_o the_o saint_n in_o a_o peculiar_a manner_n and_o it_o be_v his_o grace_n that_o he_o exercise_v that_o kingly_a power_n in_o a_o sweet_a way_n how_o ever_o he_o rule_v the_o nation_n with_o a_o rod_n of_o iron_n yet_o he_o rule_v the_o saint_n with_o a_o golden_a sceptre_n hence_o it_o
know_v the_o mind_n of_o christ_n more_o i_o will_v i_o say_v persuade_v my_o own_o heart_n and_o you_o also_o to_o this_o point_n to_o act_v faith_n upon_o christ_n in_o this_o case_n whatever_o the_o truth_n of_o such_o a_o scripture_n be_v as_o you_o will_v know_v or_o of_o such_o a_o question_n as_o you_o will_v fain_o be_v resolve_v in_o sith_o christ_n love_v you_o with_o a_o transcendent_a love_n act_n faith_n in_o this_o case_n that_o in_o due_a time_n he_o will_v reveal_v even_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o to_o thou_o three_o christ_n transcendent_a love_n give_v a_o sure_a ground_n of_o faith_n in_o the_o case_n of_o raise_v up_o of_o the_o saint_n out_o of_o suffer_v very_o o_o you_o child_n of_o faith_n and_o love_n believe_v it_o jesus_n christ_n who_o love_v you_o in_o such_o a_o transcendent_a manner_n as_o you_o have_v hear_v will_v not_o let_v you_o always_o be_v under_o those_o great_a suffering_n which_o you_o do_v his_o great_a love_n for_o the_o present_a make_v he_o sympathize_v with_o you_o in_o all_o your_o affliction_n he_o be_v afflict_v man_n that_o persecute_v you_o they_o persecute_v he_o that_o love_v you_o he_o look_v upon_o your_o suffering_n as_o his_o own_o and_o because_o heelove_v you_o so_o transcendent_o he_o will_v ere_o long_o tell_v those_o that_o persecute_v you_o the_o same_z terribly_z believe_v it_o christ_n that_o have_v appear_v to_o you_o in_o this_o say_v i_o have_v love_v you_o with_o a_o everlasting_a love_n and_o therefore_o with_o love_a kindness_n have_v i_o draw_v you_o out_o of_o the_o state_n of_o sin_n will_v also_o say_v unto_o you_o i_o do_v love_n you_o with_o a_o transcendent_a love_n &_o therefore_o with_o the_o same_o love_a kindness_n will_v i_o draw_v you_o out_o of_o the_o state_n of_o suffering_n i_o say_v act_n faith_n o_o believer_n upon_o this_o ground_n of_o christ_n transcendent_a love_n even_o a_o sweet_a and_o a_o singular_a faith_n in_o the_o case_n of_o deliver_v you_o out_o of_o suffering_n as_o he_o will_v not_o always_o strive_v himself_o with_o you_o so_o neither_o always_o will_v he_o suffer_v wicked_a man_n to_o trample_v on_o you_o because_o he_o know_v and_o his_o love_n make_v he_o afraid_a lest_o your_o spirit_n shall_v fail_v as_o under_o the_o one_o so_o under_o the_o other_o use_v second_o it_o may_v be_v a_o word_n of_o reproof_n this_o point_n that_o christ_n love_v he_o with_o a_o transcendent_a love_n may_v just_o reprove_v the_o world_n yea_o and_o the_o saint_n themselves_o also_o first_o it_o may_v reprove_v the_o world_n who_o be_v ready_a not_o only_o to_o think_v but_o to_o say_v as_o he_o in_o the_o parable_n that_o christ_n be_v a_o austere_a man_n luke_n 19.21_o no_o my_o brethren_n christ_n you_o see_v be_v not_o austere_a but_o sweet_a as_o his_o name_n be_v so_o be_v his_o nature_n love_n and_o that_o in_o a_o transcendent_a manner_n be_v reprove_v wretch_n in_o entertain_v unkind_a or_o revile_v thought_n of_o christ_n you_o wrong_v he_o in_o his_o love_n and_o yourselves_o in_o the_o truth_n while_o you_o think_v or_o say_v that_o he_o be_v not_o a_o love_a lord_n you_o shall_v ere_o long_o not_o only_o see_v that_o he_o love_v but_o that_o he_o love_v all_o his_o with_o a_o love_n pass_v knowledge_n but_o second_o it_o reprove_v the_o saint_n also_o who_o be_v ready_a very_o often_o to_o question_v if_o not_o the_o reality_n yet_o the_o transcendency_n of_o christ_n love_n be_v reprove_v for_o say_v christ_n love_v you_o not_o at_o all_o or_o if_o he_o do_v but_o very_o little_a for_o you_o hear_v that_o he_o love_v even_o all_o he_o with_o a_o transcendent_a love_n i_o profess_v it_o be_v sad_a to_o see_v upon_o what_o petty_a poor_a occasion_n even_o believer_n themselves_o be_v ready_a to_o question_v at_o least_o the_o greatness_n of_o christ_n love_n if_o he_o deni_v they_o though_o but_o a_o vanity_n yet_o because_o their_o heart_n be_v set_v upon_o it_o so_o much_o they_o think_v that_o his_o heart_n be_v not_o set_v upon_o they_o at_o all_o such_o be_v their_o weakness_n they_o be_v ready_a to_o think_v that_o christ_n love_v they_o but_o a_o little_a because_o he_o do_v not_o give_v they_o happy_o a_o knife_n which_o he_o see_v they_o will_v use_v to_o cut_v their_o own_o throat_n with_o your_o bosom_n o_o believer_n will_v hint_n you_o the_o particular_n in_o this_o case_n and_o therefore_o i_o pass_v they_o by_o only_o let_v the_o word_n of_o reproof_n fall_v upon_o you_o who_o for_o any_o occasion_n whether_o great_a or_o small_a dare_v to_o question_v the_o transcendency_n of_o christ_n love_n when_o as_o you_o see_v it_o to_o be_v a_o clear_a truth_n write_v as_o with_o a_o sunbeam_n upon_o your_o soul_n and_o bosom_n that_o the_o love_n he_o love_v you_o with_o be_v pass_v knowledge_n use_v three_o this_o point_n be_v a_o word_n of_o exhortation_n to_o exhort_v believer_n upon_o the_o consideration_n of_o this_o transcendent_a love_n which_o christ_n bear_v to_o they_o to_o do_v at_o least_o these_o four_o thing_n first_o tremble_v to_o think_v that_o ever_o you_o shall_v sin_v against_o he_o who_o love_v you_o so_o much_o view_v thy_o sin_n o_o believer_n in_o the_o light_n of_o thy_o saviour_n love_n and_o when_o thou_o see_v the_o transcendency_n of_o that_o love_n which_o be_v in_o his_o bosom_n towards_o thou_o then_o sit_v down_o and_o bleed_v to_o behold_v thy_o great_a sinning_n against_o he_o then_o indeed_o have_v transcendent_a love_n a_o sweet_a work_n upon_o thy_o spirit_n when_o as_o the_o thought_n of_o it_o can_v make_v thou_o mourn_v for_o thy_o sin_n how_o sweet_o do_v love_v work_n upon_o that_o woman_n who_o be_v a_o sinner_n when_o she_o taste_v the_o transcendent_a love_n of_o her_o saviour_n the_o sight_n of_o the_o great_a love_n which_o be_v in_o his_o bosom_n towards_o she_o make_v she_o sit_v at_o his_o foot_n and_o weep_v bitter_o at_o the_o thought_n of_o her_o sin_n for_o the_o present_a i_o will_v not_o dispute_v the_o point_n whether_o mourning_n for_o sin_n before_o close_v with_o christ_n can_v be_v sincere_a sure_a i_o be_o of_o this_o that_o after_o close_v with_o christ_n and_o taste_v of_o his_o love_n then_o mourn_v for_o sin_n be_v most_o sweet_a and_o though_o nothing_o in_o the_o world_n melt_v the_o heart_n for_o sin_n yet_o the_o thought_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n will_n well_o believer_n let_v in_o then_o have_v such_o a_o work_n in_o your_o bosom_n o_o let_v his_o transcendent_a love_n which_o you_o may_v read_v write_v with_o the_o blood_n of_o his_o heart_n dissolve_v thy_o adamantine_a heart_n and_o let_v it_o make_v thou_o mourn_v for_o thy_o sin_n great_o they_o shall_v see_v he_o who_o they_o have_v pierce_v and_o mourn_v say_v the_o scripture_n zach._n 12.10_o why_o believer_n do_v you_o see_v he_o who_o you_o have_v pierce_v with_o your_o sin_n do_v not_o you_o mourn_v especial_o when_o you_o see_v he_o in_o the_o light_n of_o love_n i_o say_v no_o more_o but_o this_o either_o you_o have_v not_o taste_v this_o transcendent_a love_n of_o christ_n or_o else_o your_o spirit_n be_v very_o much_o harden_v if_o the_o sense_n and_o thought_n thereof_o do_v not_o cause_v you_o to_o mourn_v for_o sin_n therefore_o let_v this_o word_n of_o exhortation_n sink_v deep_o into_o your_o heart_n o_o believer_n weep_v and_o weep_v tear_n of_o blood_n to_o think_v that_o ever_o you_o shall_v sin_v against_o jesus_n christ_n who_o have_v write_v in_o his_o own_o blood_n this_o truth_n that_o he_o love_v you_o with_o a_o love_n pass_v knowledge_n second_o be_v exhort_v to_o be_v ambitious_a to_o answer_v this_o transcendent_a love_n of_o your_o saviour_n with_o the_o like_a let_v this_o love_n of_o thy_o lord_n be_v the_o loadstone_n of_o thy_o love_n let_v it_o constrain_v thou_o to_o love_v he_o transcendent_o who_o love_v thou_o so_o i_o know_v it_o be_v impossible_a that_o thou_o shall_v parallel_v it_o which_o be_v the_o glory_n of_o christ_n love_n yet_o strive_v at_o least_o to_o imitate_v it_o which_o will_v be_v the_o glory_n of_o thou_o do_v not_o content_v thyself_o to_o love_v he_o little_a that_o love_v thou_o much_o sith_o christ_n have_v love_v thou_o rich_o be_v ashamed_a to_o love_v he_o but_o poor_o ambition_n in_o this_o respect_n will_v be_v a_o grace_n if_o so_o be_v that_o the_o sire_n of_o christ_n love_n to_o thou_o set_v thou_o in_o flame_n of_o great_a love_n to_o he_o o_o be_v ambitious_a to_o declare_v as_o much_o as_o in_o thou_o lie_v the_o exceed_a greatness_n of_o thy_o love_n to_o thy_o lord_n mirandula_n note_v it_o as_o a_o badge_n of_o love_n that_o it_o make_v the_o person_n willing_a yea_o &_o desirous_a to_o suffer_v
as_o the_o last_o thing_n observe_v from_o these_o word_n viz._n to_o let_v you_o see_v how_o efficacious_a the_o love_n of_o christ_n be_v unto_o the_o support_a of_o believer_n in_o any_o tribulation_n sermon_n vi._n ephes._n 3_o ver._n 19_o and_o to_o know_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o pass_v knowledge_n he_o that_o be_v but_o little_o skill_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o face_n of_o time_n may_v very_o well_o see_v that_o these_o time_n wherein_o we_o live_v be_v very_o sad_a calamity_n lie_v upon_o every_o creature_n and_o woe_n have_v as_o it_o be_v enter_v upon_o the_o stage_n of_o the_o world_n and_o act_n a_o very_a bloody_a part_n to_o the_o terror_n of_o all_o even_o believer_n themselves_o some_o put_v on_o black_a and_o walk_v disconsolate_o yea_o almost_o all_o the_o son_n of_o man_n be_v clad_v in_o mourning_n as_o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o misery_n under_o which_o most_o of_o the_o world_n at_o this_o day_n groan_v in_o these_o time_n therefore_o what_o can_v be_v more_o suitable_a to_o our_o thought_n than_o to_o consider_v of_o that_o which_o may_v serve_v to_o support_v our_o spirit_n it_o be_v the_o wisdom_n of_o such_o as_o be_v weak_a and_o liable_a to_o faint_n to_o carry_v about_o they_o some_o cordial_a or_o other_o to_o revive_v they_o and_o it_o shall_v be_v doubtless_o the_o wisdom_n of_o believer_n who_o be_v liable_a always_o to_o tribulation_n to_o lay_v in_o something_o which_o may_v keep_v they_o from_o faint_v under_o these_o tribulation_n indeed_o our_o lord_n jesus_n out_o of_o the_o riches_n of_o his_o mercy_n have_v prepare_v and_o provide_v rich_a and_o glorious_a cordial_n to_o support_v the_o soul_n of_o he_o and_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n especial_o who_o be_v the_o minister_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n to_o help_v believer_n with_o these_o cordial_n which_o our_o lord_n and_o their_o lord_n have_v prepare_v and_o therefore_o while_o other_o forget_v not_o only_o the_o saint_n but_o themselves_o take_v leave_n to_o press_v and_o urge_v great_a thing_n as_o matter_n of_o faith_n upon_o poor_a soul_n as_o if_o they_o have_v dominion_n over_o their_o faith_n i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o imitate_v the_o great_a apostle_n paul_n rather_o to_o show_v my_o self_n a_o helper_n of_o your_o joy_n ult_n 2_o cor._n 1._o ult_n than_o a_o lord_n of_o your_o faith_n it_o be_v this_o indeed_o which_o paul_n be_v much_o upon_o viz._n the_o furtherance_n of_o the_o joy_n and_o comfort_n of_o believer_n and_o it_o be_v this_o which_o he_o drive_v at_o in_o these_o word_n in_o the_o behalf_n of_o the_o ephesian_n for_o fear_v lest_o the_o news_n of_o these_o trouble_n in_o which_o he_o be_v shall_v so_o far_o trouble_v the_o ephesian_n as_o to_o make_v they_o faint_a he_o therefore_o bow_v his_o knee_n to_o the_o father_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n that_o he_o will_v be_v please_v to_o give_v they_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n that_o so_o by_o it_o their_o spirit_n may_v be_v keep_v from_o faint_a either_o at_o the_o news_n of_o he_o or_o fear_v of_o their_o own_o tribulation_n this_o be_v therefore_o the_o end_n why_o paul_n pray_v to_o god_n in_o the_o behalf_n of_o the_o ephesian_n that_o they_o may_v know_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o pass_v knowledge_n i_o do_v observe_v this_o doctrine_n from_o it_o viz._n that_o the_o spiritual_a knowledge_n of_o the_o transcendency_n of_o christ_n love_n towards_o he_o be_v of_o special_a efficacy_n to_o keep_v our_o heart_n from_o faint_v under_o any_o trouble_n i_o suppose_v you_o easy_o see_v both_o the_o foundation_n and_o the_o proof_n of_o this_o point_n in_o this_o place_n yet_o that_o you_o may_v see_v both_o the_o clear_a let_v i_o hint_n these_o three_o thing_n first_o consider_v it_o that_o the_o apostle_n suppose_v that_o the_o ephesiant_a heart_n be_v apt_a to_o faint_v at_o their_o tribulation_n at_o the_o 13_o verse_n his_o desire_n that_o they_o may_v not_o faint_v do_v clear_o intimate_v this_o that_o they_o be_v apt_a to_o faint_v indeed_o the_o child_n of_o faith_n be_v not_o only_o prone_a to_o fear_v but_o be_v apt_a to_o faint_v in_o those_o fear_n second_o observe_v how_o upon_o this_o fear_n of_o the_o apostle_n lest_o they_o may_v faint_v or_o if_o you_o will_v upon_o his_o desire_n that_o they_o may_v not_o faint_v he_o fall_v to_o prayer_n and_o make_v it_o his_o request_n to_o god_n who_o alone_a royalty_n be_v to_o support_v the_o faint_a spirit_n of_o all_o the_o creature_n that_o be_v will_v be_v please_v to_o keep_v they_o from_o faint_v for_o say_v he_o for_o this_o cause_n i_o how_o my_o knee_n to_o the_o father_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n that_o be_v upon_o this_o desire_n of_o i_o that_o you_o may_v not_o faint_a i_o bow_v my_o knee_n to_o he_o who_o alone_o be_v able_a to_o support_v your_o spirit_n three_o consider_v that_o among_o the_o rest_n of_o those_o thing_n which_o he_o pray_v to_o god_n for_o in_o their_o behalf_n that_o they_o may_v not_o faint_v he_o pray_v for_o this_o in_o the_o text_n as_o in_o the_o last_o place_n that_o they_o may_v know_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n which_o pass_v knowledge_n and_o indeed_o the_o very_a spirit_n and_o strength_n of_o all_o that_o which_o the_o apostle_n have_v pray_v for_o in_o the_o former_a verse_n in_o their_o behalf_n lie_v in_o this_o last_o and_o happy_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o he_o bring_v in_o this_o as_o the_o last_o particular_a be_v as_o it_o be_v that_o last_o cordial_a which_o he_o pray_v for_o in_o their_o behalf_n and_o if_o it_o have_v fail_v he_o know_v not_o as_o it_o be_v what_o to_o ask_v of_o god_n for_o they_o this_o be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o last_o dosis_n of_o the_o doctor_n which_o if_o it_o help_v not_o the_o patient_a the_o doctor_n be_v at_o a_o stand_n and_o be_v puzzle_v and_o know_v not_o what_o else_o to_o give_v so_o that_o i_o suppose_v you_o may_v easy_o see_v not_o only_o the_o foot_n that_o this_o text_n afford_v for_o this_o truth_n but_o also_o a_o great_a and_o solid_a proof_n of_o the_o truth_n thereof_o in_o it_o and_o yet_o that_o you_o may_v see_v this_o truth_n more_o clear_o from_o this_o place_n i_o will_v in_o a_o word_n show_v you_o how_o that_o the_o very_a spirit_n and_o strength_n of_o the_o other_o cordial_n which_o he_o here_o pray_v for_o be_v as_o it_o be_v wrap_v up_o in_o this_o viz._n the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n for_o consider_v first_o he_o pray_v that_o they_o may_v be_v strengthen_v in_o the_o inward_a man_n by_o his_o spirit_n verse_n 16._o now_o what_o be_v that_o strength_n of_o the_o inward_a man_n by_o the_o spirit_n but_o that_o divine_a and_o spiritual_a joy_n which_o be_v through_o he_o the_o joy_n
