they_o and_o they_o will_v appear_v all_o but_o conceit_n and_o to_o have_v no_o reality_n and_o truth_n in_o they_o 1._o now_o the_o first_o of_o these_o be_v that_o it_o be_v presumption_n which_o be_v a_o conceit_n the_o papist_n take_v up_o and_o be_v in_o we_o all_o 1._o so_o far_o as_o we_o be_v natural_o popish_a we_o think_v this_o faith_n be_v but_o a_o presumption_n yet_o this_o be_v but_o a_o mere_a conceit_n for_o if_o we_o have_v faith_n it_o assure_v we_o through_o christ_n that_o nothing_o can_v destroy_v we_o all_o presumption_n be_v either_o upon_o a_o man_n own_o merit_n or_o god_n mercy_n as_o divine_v acknowledge_v now_o that_o faith_n do_v neither_o of_o these_o it_o be_v plain_a for_o he_o first_o that_o know_v christ_n according_a to_o his_o word_n lay_v hold_v on_o christ_n merit_n and_o god_n mercy_n in_o he_o and_o so_o apply_v and_o rest_v thereupon_o before_o god_n labour_v to_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n and_o so_o be_v assure_v of_o god_n love_n and_o this_o be_v no_o presum_fw-la tion_n for_o he_o rely_v not_o upon_o his_o own_o merit_n but_o christ_n 2._o this_o faith_n build_v not_o on_o god_n mercy_n at_o large_a but_o 2._o on_o his_o mercy_n in_o christ_n he_o believe_v on_o he_o that_o have_v satisfy_v god_n justice_n and_o therefore_o know_v that_o god_n can_v but_o must_v needs_o show_v mercy_n if_o this_o be_v presumption_n who_o will_v seek_v after_o it_o to_o lose_v his_o labour_n but_o this_o the_o lord_n command_v and_o therefore_o it_o be_v no_o presumption_n but_o obedience_n and_o duty_n to_o do_v it_o nay_o if_o thou_o shall_v 14._o not_o seek_v after_o this_o faith_n and_o assurance_n it_o be_v a_o neglect_n 23._o and_o contempt_n of_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n a_o second_o impediment_n that_o keep_v man_n from_o seek_v this_o faith_n be_v a_o conceit_n that_o it_o be_v impossible_a ever_o to_o get_v it_o and_o this_o stick_v too_o much_o in_o our_o unbelieve_a heart_n and_o be_v strong_o root_v in_o our_o ignorant_a protestant_n that_o give_v themselves_o to_o other_o book_n but_o not_o to_o the_o careful_a and_o conscionable_a read_n of_o god_n book_n
strong_a and_o rely_v on_o he_o and_o then_o that_o will_v strengthen_v and_o establish_v your_o heart_n and_o here_o before_o we_o euter_n into_o conflict_n with_o trouble_n take_v heed_n that_o we_o do_v not_o strengthen_v ourselves_o in_o other_o thing_n this_o breed_v a_o man_n much_o vexation_n of_o spirit_n in_o the_o day_n of_o fear_n and_o danger_n because_o he_o give_v his_o heart_n to_o rely_v upon_o a_o break_a staff_n the_o arm_n of_o flesh_n and_o when_o these_o come_v to_o break_v and_o disappoint_v he_o he_o fall_v to_o the_o ground_n therefore_o my_o brethren_n however_o we_o be_v provide_v in_o regard_n of_o second_o mean_n against_o the_o time_n of_o trial_n as_o for_o example_n it_o may_v be_v we_o have_v healthful_a body_n good_a estate_n and_o be_v full_a of_o friend_n in_o this_o country_n and_o in_o foreign_a country_n where_o we_o may_v betake_v ourselves_o whatever_o may_v happen_v yet_o we_o must_v look_v on_o these_o thing_n as_o david_n do_v on_o strength_n which_o be_v receive_v from_o the_o evil_a spirit_n which_o be_v when_o satan_n shall_v join_v with_o the_o spirit_n of_o a_o man_n and_o add_v a_o supernatural_a strength_n and_o so_o make_v he_o to_o do_v more_o or_o suffer_v more_o than_o otherwise_o by_o nature_n he_o be_v able_a to_o do_v with_o this_o spirit_n be_v all_o the_o enemy_n of_o the_o church_n strengthen_v paul_n knowledge_n the_o more_o strength_n for_o the_o spirit_n of_o divine_a truth_n be_v the_o strength_n of_o the_o soul_n for_o as_o the_o soul_n be_v unto_o the_o body_n so_o be_v the_o word_n unto_o the_o inward_a man_n the_o body_n be_v dead_a without_o the_o soul_n not_o able_a to_o do_v any_o thing_n so_o the_o inward_a man_n without_o the_o spiritual_a strength_n which_o be_v wrought_v in_o you_o know_v in_o our_o ordinary_a talk_n we_o count_v ignorance_n folly_n that_o be_v when_o a_o man_n do_v any_o thing_n that_o he_o shall_v not_o do_v or_o will_v not_o do_v if_o he_o do_v but_o understand_v himself_o we_o say_v that_o man_n be_v weak_a in_o judgement_n or_o it_o be_v folly_n sure_o this_o weakness_n in_o the_o inward_a man_n be_v folly_n indeed_o and_o a_o man_n can_v show_v his_o weakness_n more_o than_o to_o be_v weak_a in_o spiritual_a knowledge_n and_o yet_o you_o must_v know_v that_o a_o man_n may_v have_v much_o knowledge_n that_o be_v worldly_a knowledge_n and_o the_o notional_a or_o speculative_a knowledge_n of_o divine_a truth_n and_o yet_o be_v but_o weak_a in_o the_o inward_a man_n for_o there_o be_v a_o artificial_a knowledge_n which_o fill_v the_o brain_n but_o the_o spirit_n go_v no_o further_a and_o descend_v no_o low_a that_o be_v it_o do_v not_o sanctify_v that_o knowledge_n in_o the_o heart_n and_o the_o inward_a man_n again_o there_o be_v a_o knowledge_n of_o the_o spirit_n or_o experimental_a which_o be_v a_o operative_a knowledge_n and_o go_v along_o with_o this_o other_o knowledge_n and_o bend_v it_o to_o sanctification_n and_o be_v practical_a but_o yet_o you_o must_v know_v i_o say_v before_o you_o can_v be_v strong_a there_o must_v be_v some_o proportion_n between_o the_o spiritual_a knowledge_n and_o the_o spiritual_a strength_n as_o for_o example_n one_o man_n eat_v and_o be_v fat_a and_o lusty_a another_o man_n eat_v and_o be_v still_o lean_a so_o some_o have_v as_o much_o as_o other_o have_v and_o yet_o be_v not_o so_o strong_a as_o other_o and_o yet_o we_o say_v not_o but_o as_o the_o lean_a man_n be_v strengthen_v by_o the_o meat_n he_o eat_v so_o he_o that_o have_v weak_a knowledge_n be_v strengthen_v by_o it_o but_o where_o the_o lord_n work_v by_o his_o spirit_n the_o great_a knowledge_n according_o strength_n be_v increase_v therefore_o i_o beseech_v you_o labour_n for_o a_o full_a measure_n of_o save_a knowledge_n that_o be_v for_o a_o work_n purge_a operative_a and_o powerful_a knowledge_n and_o this_o i_o do_v not_o only_o speak_v unto_o you_o that_o be_v weak_a but_o also_o unto_o you_o that_o be_v strong_a that_o you_o be_v careful_a to_o add_v unto_o your_o knowledge_n for_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o you_o do_v not_o grow_v in_o grace_n but_o because_o you_o be_v not_o careful_a to_o add_v more_o knowledge_n unto_o that_o which_o you_o have_v it_o may_v be_v you_o pick_v some_o good_a thing_n from_o some_o sermon_n or_o from_o some_o good_a book_n but_o present_o you_o forget_v they_o you_o do_v not_o make_v it_o your_o own_o by_o meditation_n it_o slip_v out_o of_o your_o memory_n again_o and_o so_o do_v you_o no_o good_a but_o if_o you_o will_v be_v careful_a to_o add_v unto_o it_o you_o will_v grow_v strong_a in_o the_o inward_a man_n than_o you_o do_v and_o here_o be_v the_o misery_n of_o we_o that_o be_v spiritual_a builder_n other_o builder_n when_o they_o have_v build_v a_o house_n the_o owner_n look_v to_o it_o himself_o and_o keep_v it_o in_o reparation_n but_o when_o we_o have_v do_v what_o we_o can_v to_o build_v up_o in_o the_o inward_a man_n and_o think_v that_o you_o will_v put_v to_o your_o hand_n yourselves_o when_o we_o be_v to_o further_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n you_o begin_v to_o pull_v down_o your_o building_n again_o yourselves_o by_o your_o ignorant_a and_o loose_a life_n that_o be_v by_o follow_v your_o pleasure_n your_o sport_v and_o game_n and_o profane_v the_o lord_n day_n therefore_o you_o must_v labour_v to_o grow_v in_o knowledge_n if_o you_o will_v grow_v strong_a in_o the_o inward_a man_n the_o second_o mean_n to_o be_v use_v if_o you_o will_v grow_v strong_a in_o the_o inward_a man_n be_v this_o you_o must_v be_v diligent_a in_o the_o use_n of_o all_o mean_n as_o the_o wise_a man_n say_v the_o hand_n of_o the_o diligent_a make_v rich_a so_o where_o there_o be_v much_o diligence_n in_o the_o use_n of_o the_o mean_n of_o grace_n there_o be_v much_o strength_n in_o the_o inward_a man_n no_o man_n get_v spiritual_a strength_n but_o they_o that_o be_v diligent_a and_o therefore_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o man_n be_v not_o strong_a in_o the_o spiritual_a strength_n because_o like_o the_o sluggard_n you_o be_v not_o diligent_a in_o the_o use_n of_o the_o mean_n that_o be_v you_o take_v no_o pain_n for_o grace_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o you_o get_v no_o increase_n for_o according_a to_o the_o proportion_n of_o your_o pain_n so_o be_v the_o inward_a man_n strengthen_v and_o as_o you_o use_v they_o more_o diligent_o so_o you_o find_v the_o strength_n of_o they_o more_o operative_a and_o powerful_a for_o it_o be_v in_o the_o soul_n as_o it_o be_v with_o the_o body_n if_o you_o be_v not_o diligent_a and_o careful_a to_o feed_v the_o body_n it_o will_v wither_v and_o consume_v away_o and_o grow_v weak_a so_o if_o you_o feed_v not_o the_o soul_n diligent_o and_o use_v the_o mean_n constant_o you_o will_v breed_v weakness_n in_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o more_o remiss_a and_o secure_a you_o be_v in_o the_o performance_n of_o holy_a duty_n the_o weak_a you_o be_v it_o may_v be_v you_o think_v it_o will_v not_o weaken_v you_o to_o omit_v private_a prayer_n but_o omit_v it_o once_o and_o it_o will_v make_v you_o careless_a and_o the_o more_o you_o neglect_v it_o the_o more_o unfit_a and_o undisposed_a will_v you_o find_v yourselves_o when_o you_o will_v and_o your_o strength_n will_v abate_v or_o you_o think_v you_o may_v profane_v one_o sabbath_n or_o you_o may_v take_v your_o pleasure_n immoderate_o sometime_o but_o belove_v it_o will_v make_v you_o secure_a that_o be_v the_o more_o a_o man_n do_v in_o this_o kind_a the_o more_o he_o may_v do_v for_o this_o be_v true_a in_o every_o act_n every_o act_n incline_v a_o habit_n and_o a_o habit_n bring_v custom_n so_o it_o be_v as_o true_a in_o good_a thing_n the_o beginning_n of_o good_a thing_n bring_v many_o particular_a good_a thing_n and_o therefore_o if_o you_o can_v but_o get_v your_o heart_n in_o a_o frame_n of_o grace_n you_o shall_v find_v a_o supply_n of_o grace_n because_o christ_n say_v unto_o who_o soever_o have_v unto_o he_o shall_v be_v give_v that_o be_v he_o that_o have_v grace_n &_o be_v careful_a in_o the_o use_n of_o the_o mean_n by_o god_n appointment_n he_o shall_v thrive_v in_o holiness_n for_o if_o you_o once_o get_v but_o the_o beginning_n of_o save_a grace_n and_o be_v industrious_a and_o careful_a to_o employ_v they_o than_o you_o will_v in_o time_n grow_v strong_a you_o know_v what_o christ_n say_v unto_o the_o servant_n that_o have_v use_v his_o talon_n well_o he_o have_v more_o give_v he_o so_o if_o you_o be_v diligent_a in_o the_o use_n of_o the_o mean_n the_o inward_a man_n will_v grow_v strong_a but_o for_o the_o use_n of_o the_o mean_n observe_v these_o rule_n the_o first_o rule_n that_o i_o will_v habit_n put_v into_o the_o soul_n but_o it_o be_v a_o empty_v quality_n that_o take_v a_o man_n off_o from_o his_o own_o bottom_n it_o cut_v he_o off_o from_o his_o own_o root_n and_o ingraft_n he_o into_o another_o it_o teach_v he_o to_o depend_v upon_o god_n for_o if_o you_o look_v upon_o faith_n which_o be_v the_o main_a grace_n and_o gift_n as_o it_o be_v the_o root_n and_o foundation_n to_o all_o other_o grace_n be_v it_o not_o a_o empty_n grace_n what_o be_v faith_n but_o to_o teach_v a_o man_n to_o trust_v in_o god_n now_o no_o man_n trust_v in_o another_o full_o but_o he_o distrust_v himself_o full_o it_o make_v a_o man_n nothing_o in_o himself_o and_o whole_o dependent_a upon_o the_o lord_n even_o such_o be_v grace_n it_o take_v a_o man_n quite_o off_o from_o any_o root_n of_o his_o own_o and_o make_v he_o as_o ivy_n that_o hang_v upon_o and_o clasp_v about_o the_o tree_n receive_v its_o be_v and_o sustenance_n from_o it_o so_o grace_v it_o annihilate_v the_o creature_n as_o it_o be_v it_o take_v a_o man_n off_o from_o that_o sufficiency_n that_o every_o man_n seek_v to_o have_v in_o his_o own_o sphere_n in_o his_o own_o nature_n it_o teach_v a_o man_n to_o know_v that_o he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o think_v a_o good_a thought_n nor_o to_o do_v a_o good_a work_n of_o himself_o again_o i_o answer_v though_o it_o be_v a_o quality_n and_o that_o our_o strength_n be_v from_o god_n immediate_o yet_o god_n will_v have_v strength_n we_o to_o use_v mean_n and_o instrument_n wherein_o he_o himself_o help_v we_o to_o do_v for_o it_o be_v true_a if_o any_o man_n upon_o occasion_n of_o sin_n etc._n etc._n here_o a_o man_n make_v flesh_n his_o arm_n though_o he_o do_v trust_v to_o grace_v for_o he_o ought_v not_o so_o to_o do_v he_o ought_v to_o look_v up_o to_o god_n for_o another_o transient_a exciting_a and_o assist_a grace_n beside_o this_o inherent_a quality_n which_o i_o speak_v of_o to_o have_v a_o dependence_n upon_o he_o and_o yet_o not_o altogether_o to_o rest_v in_o that_o for_o then_o a_o man_n shall_v not_o be_v bind_v to_o increase_v in_o grace_n and_o to_o grow_v in_o it_o which_o every_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o do_v grow_v in_o though_o it_o be_v a_o long_a time_n ere_o they_o speak_v yet_o at_o such_o time_n as_o these_o than_o they_o speak_v before_o then_o they_o be_v seal_v up_o and_o it_o be_v not_o know_v perfect_o what_o treasure_n be_v in_o they_o whether_o they_o be_v empty_a or_o any_o thing_n worth_a but_o when_o there_o come_v a_o day_n of_o trial_n now_o be_v the_o the_o time_n the_o lord_n have_v make_v such_o promise_n for_o such_o a_o day_n and_o here_o i_o must_v give_v you_o a_o caveat_n concern_v this_o mean_n if_o you_o will_v be_v strong_a in_o the_o lord_n make_v not_o haste_n that_o be_v the_o phrase_n that_o be_v use_v he_o that_o believe_v make_v not_o haste_n that_o be_v he_o give_v the_o lord_n liberty_n he_o let_v he_o move_v round_o in_o his_o sphere_n he_o be_v not_o ready_a to_o snatch_v deliverence_n out_o of_o his_o hand_n but_o let_v the_o lord_n take_v his_o own_o leisure_n for_o than_o he_o will_v do_v thing_n best_o and_o this_o be_v a_o item_n that_o must_v be_v understand_v the_o lord_n notwithstanding_o those_o promise_n that_o be_v plentiful_o make_v for_o the_o safety_n and_o preservation_n of_o he_o yet_o many_o time_n he_o defer_v the_o fulfil_n of_o nation_n the_o weak_a part_n in_o the_o time_n of_o war_n endure_v and_o sustain_v more_o inconvenience_n and_o bloodshed_n and_o loss_n of_o man_n then_o after_o the_o full_a conquest_n be_v make_v especial_o if_o the_o government_n of_o the_o conqueror_n be_v moderate_a and_o just_a as_o it_o be_v sometime_o so_o as_o long_o as_o a_o man_n stand_v out_o with_o god_n in_o pride_n of_o spirit_n and_o will_v not_o yield_v he_o live_v far_o more_o uncomfortable_o then_o when_o he_o be_v true_o humble_v and_o subject_v to_o god_n three_o and_o last_o these_o general_a and_o great_a affliction_n may_v be_v bear_v more_o comfortable_o and_o a_o less_o may_n more_o disquiet_a and_o trouble_v the_o heart_n because_o when_o a_o man_n have_v be_v afflict_v but_o in_o some_o one_o thing_n or_o a_o few_o thing_n and_o have_v many_o outward_a contentment_n and_o comfort_n yet_o remain_v to_o he_o this_o be_v the_o usual_a course_n of_o man_n in_o such_o a_o case_n they_o think_v when_o their_o spirit_n be_v bruise_v and_o wound_v with_o grief_n of_o heart_n they_o have_v lose_v such_o a_o friend_n they_o have_v lose_v part_n of_o such_o a_o estate_n or_o credit_n then_o present_o they_o fall_v to_o other_o thing_n that_o be_v leave_v they_o and_o they_o think_v to_o make_v themselves_o whole_a there_o when_o they_o have_v lose_v their_o contentment_n in_o one_o particular_a they_o enjoy_v they_o think_v to_o make_v they_o whole_a and_o to_o supply_v it_o with_o the_o outward_a thing_n that_o remain_v this_o succeed_v not_o because_o the_o wound_n that_o be_v make_v in_o the_o spirit_n by_o the_o loss_n of_o that_o whatsoever_o it_o be_v thou_o be_v cross_v with_o it_o may_v be_v the_o anger_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v mix_v with_o it_o it_o may_v be_v the_o arrow_n of_o the_o lord_n stick_v in_o thy_o soul._n now_o if_o that_o be_v thy_o case_n all_o the_o outward_a application_n of_o comfort_n of_o the_o world_n will_v not_o do_v the_o turn_n only_o that_o hand_n that_o strike_v the_o arrow_n in_o our_o side_n be_v able_a to_o pluck_v it_o out_o of_o we_o and_o we_o see_v nothing_o more_o frequent_a and_o usual_a in_o the_o world_n man_n as_o long_o as_o they_o have_v other_o thing_n to_o solace_v themselves_o with_o to_o set_v their_o delight_n on_o they_o never_o go_v to_o god_n if_o a_o man_n go_v to_o god_n for_o comfort_n it_o be_v as_o it_o be_v ark_n this_o force_v a_o man_n of_o necessity_n to_o the_o lord_n now_o though_o the_o wound_n be_v ten_o time_n more_o grievous_a and_o heavy_a come_v to_o the_o right_a physician_n the_o lord_n that_o make_v the_o wound_n he_o can_v cure_v it_o and_o comfort_v a_o man_n again_o if_o a_o man_n have_v but_o a_o scratch_n with_o a_o pin_n if_o he_o have_v a_o unskilful_a chirurgeon_n the_o wound_n go_v on_o to_o rankle_v more_o and_o more_o and_o at_o last_o it_o cost_v a_o man_n his_o life_n on_o the_o other_o side_n if_o a_o man_n have_v a_o wound_n that_o be_v dangerous_a if_o he_o go_v to_o one_o that_o be_v skilful_a this_o man_n recover_v and_o live_v in_o the_o world_n so_o many_o time_n many_o man_n live_v with_o disquiet_a mind_n they_o go_v to_o the_o world_n and_o seek_v to_o be_v whole_a there_o they_o seek_v their_o physician_n there_o and_o make_v the_o wound_n that_o be_v make_v worse_o and_o the_o latter_a end_n be_v worse_a than_o the_o beginning_n but_o now_o though_o a_o man_n be_v never_o so_o empty_a of_o comfort_n and_o be_v strike_v down_o and_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n be_v never_o so_o heavy_a upon_o he_o if_o he_o go_v to_o god_n and_o seek_v to_o he_o the_o lord_n be_v able_a to_o make_v he_o a_o comfortable_a man_n again_o and_o to_o revive_v his_o spirit_n and_o bring_v he_o again_o from_o the_o grave_n so_o we_o see_v that_o objection_n full_o answer_v that_o though_o we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o stand_v under_o light_a affliction_n we_o may_v be_v able_a and_o strong_a enough_o to_o bear_v great_a so_o much_o for_o this_o time_n the_o law_n of_o sin_n and_o grace_n combat_v rom._n 7._o 23._o but_o i_o see_v another_o law_n in_o my_o member_n war_a against_o the_o law_n of_o my_o mind_n and_o lead_v i_o captive_a to_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n which_o be_v in_o my_o member_n that_o which_o be_v to_o be_v do_v for_o the_o solemnity_n of_o this_o day_n 5._o which_o have_v be_v most_o profitable_a and_o necessary_o set_v a_o loss_n of_o good_n abreption_n of_o life_n these_o thing_n be_v natural_o terrible_a to_o we_o the_o very_a hear_n of_o they_o but_o this_o now_o be_v a_o war_n within_o which_o be_v much_o more_o dangerous_a and_o concern_v every_o one_o of_o we_o to_o be_v affect_v with_o a_o thousand_o time_n more_o for_o it_o be_v a_o deadly_a war_n a_o war_n that_o devour_v the_o soul_n the_o other_o a_o war_n which_o be_v for_o the_o most_o part_n forget_v and_o not_o mind_v for_o it_o be_v a_o fight_n that_o make_v no_o noise_n it_o come_v not_o with_o the_o sound_n of_o drum_n and_o trumpet_n it_o carry_v along_o with_o it_o no_o terrible_a appearance_n hence_o it_o be_v that_o we_o think_v of_o it_o but_o little_a now_o what_o do_v we_o serve_v for_o that_o be_v the_o watchman_n of_o thing_n that_o shall_v wound_v our_o heart_n and_o break_v they_o more_o than_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n to_o make_v we_o see_v that_o the_o lord_n be_v patient_a and_o long_o suffer_v that_o though_o the_o humiliation_n of_o man_n he_o not_o sound_v and_o according_a to_o what_o he_o expect_v yet_o he_o be_v ready_a to_o remove_v the_o judgement_n and_o this_o use_n we_o shall_v further_o make_v of_o it_o that_o if_o the_o lord_n hear_v when_o humiliation_n be_v not_o find_v what_o will_v he_o do_v when_o our_o prayer_n be_v servant_n and_o sound_n when_o our_o humiliation_n be_v take_v of_o the_o water_n of_o life_n free_o not_o to_o stand_v to_o open_v the_o word_n we_o may_v observe_v in_o they_o five_o part_n first_o a_o offer_n to_o all_o man_n second_o that_o god_n call_v and_o invit_v we_o to_o come_v three_o that_o whosoever_o will_v come_v must_v thirst_v four_o that_o if_o they_o so_o come_v they_o shall_v take_v of_o the_o water_n of_o life_n five_o and_o that_o free_o i_o purpose_v at_o this_o time_n to_o speak_v of_o the_o second_o viz._n that_o god_n invit_v man_n to_o come_v the_o point_n we_o will_v deliver_v be_v not_o a_o point_n of_o controversy_n which_o we_o rather_o decline_v but_o a_o point_n of_o singular_a and_o great_a comfort_n and_o that_o be_v that_o â—â—â—rious_a gospel_n which_o paul_n do_v so_o much_o magnify_v that_o mystery_n the_o angel_n do_v so_o much_o labour_n to_o pry_v into_o that_o secret_a that_o be_v so_o much_o keep_v from_o the_o jew_n and_o reveal_v in_o due_a time_n to_o the_o gentile_n and_o that_o be_v the_o offer_n of_o christ_n to_o all_o man_n in_o the_o world_n that_o will_v take_v he_o without_o all_o exception_n of_o person_n or_o sin_n god_n do_v not_o only_a or_o mere_o offer_v christ_n but_o he_o send_v out_o his_o minister_n and_o ambassador_n beseech_v we_o to_o be_v reconcile_v he_o do_v not_o only_o tell_v we_o that_o there_o be_v a_o marriage_n of_o his_o son_n and_o that_o whosoever_o will_v come_v may_v come_v but_o he_o send_v messenger_n to_o beseech_v and_o to_o use_v a_o holy_a violence_n and_o earnest_a persuasion_n yea_o and_o not_o only_o thus_o but_o he_o command_v man_n and_o charge_v they_o upon_o their_o allegiance_n to_o come_v this_o be_v his_o commandment_n say_v the_o apostle_n that_o you_o believe_v on_o he_o who_o he_o have_v send_v yea_o he_o charge_v we_o upon_o death_n and_o damnation_n to_o come_v if_o you_o believe_v you_o shall_v be_v save_v if_o you_o believe_v not_o you_o shall_v not_o be_v damn_v the_o first_o reason_n of_o this_o be_v because_o god_n will_v not_o 1_o have_v the_o death_n of_o his_o son_n to_o be_v of_o none_o effect_n he_o will_v not_o have_v the_o blood_n of_o his_o son_n spill_v in_o vain_a and_o therefore_o he_o do_v not_o make_v a_o bare_a offer_n of_o christ_n but_o he_o beseech_v and_o compel_v man_n to_o come_v and_o believe_v on_o he_o saint_n paul_n use_v the_o same_o reason_n why_o he_o will_v not_o preach_v with_o eloquent_a word_n because_o than_o he_o shall_v convert_v none_o to_o christ_n and_o if_o none_o be_v convert_v to_o christ_n the_o death_n of_o christ_n will_v be_v in_o vain_a and_o of_o none_o effect_n so_o say_v i_o if_o god_n do_v not_o send_v out_o his_o messenger_n to_o beseech_v and_o persuade_v and_o command_v man_n to_o believe_v the_o death_n of_o christ_n will_v be_v in_o vain_a the_o second_o reason_n be_v to_o show_v forth_o the_o riches_n of_o god_n mercy_n and_o the_o abundance_n of_o his_o love_n to_o mankind_n the_o 2._o same_o motive_n he_o have_v to_o give_v christ_n the_o same_o motive_n he_o have_v to_o entreat_v man_n to_o believe_v and_o this_o be_v his_o love_n and_o this_o he_o show_v to_o the_o elect_a that_o they_o may_v know_v the_o greatness_n and_o largeness_n of_o his_o love_n to_o they_o and_o to_o the_o wicked_a that_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o justice_n may_v appear_v in_o their_o damnation_n when_o they_o shall_v see_v that_o they_o have_v displease_v and_o despise_v so_o gracious_a a_o offer_n the_o three_o reason_n be_v because_o it_o be_v acceptable_a to_o god_n 3_o that_o the_o gospel_n shall_v be_v obey_v that_o be_v that_o man_n shall_v believe_v that_o they_o may_v live_v and_o not_o die_v and_o therefore_o he_o say_v he_o desire_v not_o the_o death_n of_o a_o sinner_n and_o so_o be_v many_o speech_n scatter_v in_o the_o scripture_n oh_o that_o my_o people_n will_v harken_v why_o will_v you_o die_v o_o you_o house_n of_o israel_n these_o and_o many_o more_o show_v that_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n very_o please_v to_o god_n that_o man_n shall_v not_o perish_v but_o that_o they_o come_v in_o and_o believe_v and_o live_v for_o ever_o but_o here_o may_v objection_n arise_v for_o when_o you_o hear_v that_o it_o object_n be_v a_o thing_n please_v to_o god_n that_o all_o man_n shall_v believe_v here_o it_o may_v be_v object_v how_o can_v these_o two_o stand_v together_o that_o god_n desire_v that_o man_n shall_v believe_v and_o live_v and_o he_o it_o be_v that_o must_v give_v they_o ability_n to_o believe_v and_o yet_o do_v not_o he_o have_v it_o in_o his_o power_n to_o make_v they_o to_o believe_v and_o yet_o will_v not_o notwithstanding_o he_o express_v in_o the_o forename_a place_n of_o scripture_n
