that_o shall_v attain_v salvation_n for_o to_o some_o perhaps_o more_o be_v require_v than_o to_o other_o according_a to_o their_o several_a capacity_n and_o mean_n of_o revelation_n see_v necessary_a faith_n faith_n 10._o 11._o 16._o which_o may_v be_v perhaps_o only_a some_o part_n of_o the_o creed_n or_o else_o by_o necessary_n may_v be_v understand_v all_o other_o doctrine_n and_o rule_n that_o restrain_v his_o assistance_n or_o in_o the_o conveyance_n of_o tradition_n that_o appear_v to_o restrain_v its_o certainty_n to_o the_o former_a sense_n see_v church-government_n 2._o part_n part_n 31._o in_o which_o former_a sense_n if_o it_o be_v only_o allow_v the_o church_n infallibility_n in_o guide_a christian_n will_v be_v confine_v only_o to_o two_o or_o three_o point_n and_o those_o scarce_o by_o any_o at_o all_o doubted-of_a or_o dispute_v in_o this_o latter_a sense_n therefore_o both_o because_o of_o our_o saviour_n promise_n and_o the_o evidence_n of_o tradition_n it_o must_v be_v say_v that_o the_o church_n can_v be_v mistake_v in_o defect_n but_o only_o if_o at_o all_o in_o the_o excess_n not_o in_o substract_v from_o christian_n any_o part_n of_o such_o necessary_a have_v be_v the_o common_a tenant_n of_o the_o former_a church_n but_o of_o new_a emergent_a

god_n word_n or_o infallible_a because_o this_o be_v one_o of_o her_o tradition_n or_o doctrine_n be_v grant_v even_o by_o some_o of_o the_o roman_a writer_n to_o be_v a_o circle_n see_v dr._n holden_n 1._o l._n 9_o c._n non_fw-la audentes_fw-la fidem_fw-la divinam_fw-la in_o certitudine_fw-la &_o evidentia_fw-la naturali_fw-la i._n e._n in_o universal_a tradition_n and_o he_o give_v the_o law_n to_o be_v or_o to_o say_v to_o they_o a_o infallible_a truth_n because_o he_o deliver_v it_o a_o circle_n i_o say_v it_o be_v to_o those_o who_o will_v not_o grant_v the_o supposition_n that_o scripture_n be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n otherwise_o to_o man_n as_o to_o protestant_n suppose_v the_o verity_n of_o scripture_n though_o unprove_v by_o the_o church_n it_o be_v no_o circle_n if_o any_o one_o suppose_v a_o catholic_a from_o they_o be_v grant_v attempt_v to_o prove_v ad_fw-la hominem_fw-la the_o church_n authority_n or_o infallibility_n though_o the_o same_o romanist_n also_o do_v affirm_v that_o the_o scripture_n be_v prove_v to_o be_v god_n word_n from_o the_o church_n testimony_n or_o from_o tradition_n only_o where_o both_o these_o scripture_n and_o church-infallibility_a be_v deny_v neither_o can_v be_v prove_v by_o the_o other_o till_o one_o be_v either_o suppose_v as_o true_a or_o prove_v by_o some_o other_o medium_n which_o medium_n be_v receive_v to_o be_v tradition_n and_o if_o so_o than_o i_o say_v there_o can_v be_v no_o more_o certainty_n that_o the_o church_n be_v infallible_a than_o that_o certainty_n which_o lie_v in_o universal_a tradition_n 2._o and_o second_o the_o same_o may_v be_v say_v for_o scripture_n which_o be_v suppose_v to_o be_v infallible_a because_o god_n word_n yet_o if_o they_o be_v 24._o prove_v only_o by_o the_o same_o tradition_n to_o be_v god_n word_n all_o the_o certainty_n that_o i_o have_v of_o their_o infallibility_n be_v also_o from_o universal_a tradition_n for_o the_o conclusion_n can_v have_v no_o more_o evidence_n than_o the_o premise_n or_o proof_n have_v again_o suppose_v i_o be_v without_o tradition_n infallible_o certain_a that_o such_o book_n be_v god_n word_n yet_o can_v i_o not_o for_o all_o this_o quit_v the_o dependence_n upon_o tradition_n in_o some_o point_n at_o least_o of_o my_o faith_n for_o my_o faith_n be_v ground_v not_o on_o the_o bare_a word_n but_o sense_n of_o those_o book_n and_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o same_o word_n be_v divers_a especial_o since_o the_o sense_n of_o no_o one_o text_n must_v oppose_v the_o sense_n of_o any_o other_o and_o hence_o scripture_n most_o clear_a in_o their_o expression_n by_o reason_n of_o other_o scripture_n as_o seem_o clear_a that_o express_v the_o contrary_a notwithstanding_o this_o clearness_n become_v very_o ambiguous_a and_o that_o in_o some_o necessary_a point_n of_o faith_n as_o appear_v in_o those_o many_o controversy_n concern_v their_o sense_n some_o of_o which_o contest_v doubtless_o be_v in_o very_o necessary_a point_n and_o matter_n of_o faith_n to_o know_v therefore_o among_o these_o which_o be_v the_o true_a sense_n as_o suppose_v in_o the_o controversy_n about_o the_o sacred_a trinity_n grace_n and_o free_a will_n justification_n etc._n etc._n upon_o which_o first_o know_v i_o must_v ground_v my_o faith_n i_o be_o no_o way_n help_v by_o know_v that_o the_o writing_n be_v god_n word_n here_o therefore_o though_o the_o scripture_n for_o the_o word_n shall_v not_o yet_o my_o faith_n for_o their_o sense_n will_v have_v a_o dependence_n upon_o and_o repair_v unto_o universal_a tradition_n and_o wherever_o the_o sense_n be_v doubtful_a to_o i_o as_o the_o scripture_n may_v be_v doubtful_a to_o one_o where_o perspicuous_a to_o another_o the_o chief_a certainty_n without_o dispute_v whether_o it_o be_v absolute_o infallible_a because_o it_o be_v needle_n to_o the_o state_v of_o our_o business_n that_o there_o be_v in_o it_o certainty_n upon_o or_o assurance_n sufficient_a to_o ground_v a_o firm_a faith_n upon_o for_o though_o it_o be_v willing_o assent_v to_o that_o tradition_n be_v in_o its_o nature_n a_o relation_n of_o a_o thing_n give_v not_o nor_o can_v give_v we_o such_o a_o assurance_n as_o that_o we_o know_v the_o contrary_a thereof_o to_o be_v absolute_o impossible_a for_o it_o be_v not_o absolute_o impossible_a for_o all_o man_n in_o the_o world_n from_o the_o begin_n thereof_o till_o this_o time_n to_o have_v lie_v in_o every_o thing_n they_o have_v say_v but_o yet_o he_o be_v no_o ordinary_a madman_n that_o upon_o this_o book_n thereof_o depend_v on_o the_o certainty_n of_o tradition_n and_o indeed_o it_o be_v impious_a to_o affirm_v that_o we_o have_v not_o a_o sufficient_o sure_a ground_n of_o that_o knowledge_n of_o good_a and_o evil_n upon_o which_o our_o eternal_a happi_n nes_z be_v to_o be_v acquire_v or_o misery_n sustain_v or_o that_o god_n have_v not_o leave_v a_o undoubtable_a evidence_n of_o those_o truth_n whereby_o we_o be_v to_o direct_v our_o life_n to_o that_o end_n for_o which_o he_o have_v create_v we_o but_o this_o can_v be_v assign_v no_o other_o at_o least_o to_o most_o man_n than_o for_o ever_o 3._o last_o if_o this_o tradition_n and_o the_o doctrine_n we_o acknowledge_v divine_a be_v to_o be_v deliver_v authoritative_o from_o god_n to_o man_n 27._o not_o in_o all_o but_o some_o
