IV. 1 God calleth Israel by his promise 3 He exhorteth Judab to repentance by fearful judgements 19 A grievous lamentation for the in series of Judah IF thou wilt return O Israel saith the LORD * Joel ● 12. return unto me and it thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight then shalt thou not remove 2 And thou shalt swear The LORD liveth in truth in judgement and in righteousness and the nations shall bless themselves in him and in him shall they * 2 Cor. 10.37 glory 3 ¶ For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem Break up your tallow-tallow-ground and sowe not among thorns 4 Circumcise your selves to the LORD and take away the foreskins or your heart ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem lest my fury come forth like fire and burn that none can quench it because of the evil of your doings 5 Declare ye in Judah and Publish in Jerusalem and say Blow ye the trumpet in the land cry gather together and say Assemble your selves and let us go into the defenced cities 6 Set up the standard towards Zion ‖ Or strengthen retire stay not for I will bring evil from the * Chap. 1.13 14 15. and 6.22 north and a great † Heb. breaking destruction 7 The lion is come up from his thicket and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate and thy cities shall be laid waste without an inhabitant 8 For this * Chap. 6.26 gird you with sackcloth lament and howl for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us 9 And it shall come to pass at that day saith the LORD that the heart of the king shall perish and the heart of the princes and the priests shall be astonished and the prophets shall wonder 10 Then said I Ah Lord GOD surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerulalem saying Ye shall have peace whereas the sword reacheth unto the soul 11 At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem A dry wind of the high places in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people not to fan nor to cleanse 12 Even ‖ Or a suller wind then those a full wind from those places shall come unto me now also will I † Heb. utter judgements give sentence against them 13 Behold he shall come up as clouds and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind his horses are swifter then eagles wo unto us for we are spoiled 14 O Jerusalem * Isa 1.16 wash thine heart from wickedness that thou mayest be saved how long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee 15 For a voice declareth * Chap. 6.16 from Dan and publisheth affliction from mount Ephraim 16 Make ye mention to the nations behold publish against Jerusalem that watchers come from a far countrey and give out their voice against the cities of Judah 17 As keepers of a field are they against her round about because she hath been rebellious against me saith the LORD 18 * Psal 107.17 Isa 50.1 Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee this is thy wickedness because it is bitter because it reacheth unto thine heart 19 ¶ My * Isa 22.4 Chap. 9.1 bowels my bowels I am pained at † Heb. the wall● of my heart my very heart my heart maketh a noise in me I cannot hold my peace because thou hast heard O my soul the sound of the trumpet the alarm of war 20 Destruction upon destruction is cried for the whole land is spoiled suddenly are my tents spoiled and my curtains in a moment 21 How long shall I see the standard and hear the sound of the trumpet 22 For my people is foolish they have not known me they are sottish children and they have none understanding they are wise to do evil but to do good they have no knowledge 23 I beheld the earth and lo it was without form and void and the heavens and they had no light 24 I beheld the mountains and lo they trembled and all the hills moved lightly 25 I beheld and lo there was no man and all the birds of the heavens were fled 26 I beheld and lo the fruitful place was a wilderness and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD and by his fierce anger 27 For thus hath the LORD said The whole land shall be desulate * Chap. ● 18 yet will I not make a full end 28 For this shall the earth mourn and the heavens above be black because I have spoken it I have purposed it and will not repent neither will I turn back from it 29 The whole city shall flee for the noise of the hors-men and bowe-men they shall go into thickets and climb up upon the rocks every city shall be forsaken and not a man dwell therein 30 And when thou art spoiled what wilt thou do Though thou clothest thy self with crimson though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold though thou rentest thy † Heb. eyes face with painting in vain shalt thou make thy self fair thy lovers will
it upon thy shoulders and carry it forth in the twilight thou shalt cover thy face that thou see not the ground for I have set thee for a signe unto the house of Israel 7 And I did so as I was commanded I brought forth my stuff by day as stuff for captivity and in the even I † Heb. digged for me digged through the wall with mine hand I brought it forth in the twilight and I bare it upon my shoulder in their sight 8 ¶ And in the morning came the word of the LORD unto me saying 9 Son of man hath not the house of Israel the rebellious house said unto thee What doest thou 10 Say thou unto them Thus saith the Lord GOD This burden concerneth the prince in Jerusalem and all the house of Israel that are among them 11 Say I am your signe like as I have done so shall it be done unto them † Heb. by removing go into captivity they shall remove and go into captivity 12 And the prince that is among them shall bear upon his shoulder in the twilight and shall go forth they shall dig through the wall to carry out thereby he shall cover his face that he see not the ground with his eyes 13 My * Ch. 17 2● net also will I spread upon him and he shall be taken in my snare and I will bring him to Babylon to the land of the Caldeans yet shall he not see it though he shall die there 14 And I will scatter toward every wind all that are about him to help him and all his bands and I will draw out the sword after them 15 And they shall know that I am the LORD when I shall scatter them among the nations and disperse them in the countreys 16 But I will leave † Heb. men of number a few men of them from the sword from the famine and from the pestilence that they may declare all their abominations among the heathen whither they come and they shall know that I am the LORD 17 ¶ Moreover the word of the LORD came to me saying 18 Son of man eat thy bread with quaking and drink thy water with trembling and with carefulness 19 And say unto the people of the land Thus saith the Lord GOD of the inhabitants of Jerusalem and of the land of Israel They shall eat their bread with carefulness and drink their water with astonishment that her land may be desolate from † Heb. the fuia●● thereof all that is therein because of the violence of all them that dwell therein 20 And the cities that are inhabited shall be laid waste and the land shall be desolate and ye shall know that I am the LORD 21 ¶ And the word of the LORD came unto me saying 22 Son of man what is that proverb that ye have in the land of Israel saying The days are prolonged and every vision saileth 23 Tell them therefore Thus saith the Lord GOD I will make this proverb to cease and they shall no more use it as a proverb in Israel but say unto them The days are at hand and the effect of every vision 24 For there shall be no more any vain vision nor flattering divination within the house of Israel 25 For I am the LORD I will speak and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass it shall be no more prolonged for in your days O rebellious house will I say the word and will perform it saith the Lord GOD. 26 ¶ Again the word of the LORD came to me saying 27 Son of man behold they of the house of Israel say The vision that he seeth is * 2 Pet. 3.4 for many days to come and he prophesieth of the times that are far off 28 Therefore say unto them Thus saith the Zord GOD There shall none of my words be prolonged any more but the word which I have spoken shall be done saith the Lord GOD. CHAP. XIII 1 There proof of lying prophets 10 and their untempered morter 17 Of prophetesses and their pillows ANd the word of the LORD came unto me saying 2 Son of man prophesie against the prophets of Israel that prophesie and say thou unto † Heb. them that are prophets out of their own hearts them that prophesie out of their own * Jer. 23.16 hearts Hear ye the word of the LORD 3 Thus saith the Lord GOD Wo unto the foolish prophets that † Heb. walk after follow their own spirit ‖ Or and things which they have not seen and have seen nothing 4 O Israel thy prophets are like the foxes in the deserts 5 Ye have not gone up into the ‖ Or breaches gaps neither † Heb. bedeed the b●dae made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD 6 They have seen vanity and lying divination saying The LORD saith and the LORD hath not sent them and they have make others to hope that they would confirm the word 7 Have ye not seen a vain vision and have ye not spoken a lying divination whereas ye say The LORD saith it albeit I have not spoken 8 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD Because ye have spoken vanity and seen lies therefore behold I am against you saith the Lord GOD. 9 And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity and that divine lies they shall not be in the ‖ Or secret or counsel assembly of my people neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel neither shall they enter into the land of Israel and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD. 10 ¶ Because even because they have seduced my people saying * Jer. 6.14 Peace and there was no peace and one built up ‖ Or a sli●t ●●l a wall and lo others daubed it with untempered morter 11 Say unto them which daub it with untempered morter That it shall fall there shall be an overflowing shower and ye O great hailstones shall fall and a stormy wind shall rent it 12 Lo when the wall is fal● shall it not be said unto you Where is the daubing wherewith ye have daubed it 13 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD I will even rent it with a stormy wind in my fury and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger and great hailstones in my fury to consume it 14 So will I break down the wall that ye have daubed with untempered morter and bring it down to the ground so that the foundation thereof shall be discovered and it shall fall and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof and ye shall know that I am the LORD 15 Thus will I accomplish my wrath upon the wall and upon them that have daubed it with untempered morter and will say unto you The wall is no more neither they that daubed it 16 To wit the prophets of Israel which prophesie concerning
did that which is not good among his people lo even he shall die in his iniquity 19 ¶ Yet say ye Why doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father when the son hath done that which is lawful and right and hath kept all my statutes and hath done them he shall surely live 20 The soul that sinneth it shall die * Deut. 24.16 ● King 14.6 2 Chr. 25.4 J●r 31.29 the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him 21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed and keep all my statutes and do that which is lawful and right he shall surely live he shall not die 22 All his transgressions that he hath committed they shall not be mentioned unto him in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live 23 * Chap. 33.11 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die saith the Lord GOD and not that he should return from his ways and live 24 ¶ But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness and committeth iniquity and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth shall he live all his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned in his trespass that he hath trespassed and in his ●in that he hath sinned in them shall he die 25 ¶ Yet ye say * Chap. 33.20 The way of the Lord is not equal Hear now O house of Israel is not my wa● equal are not your ways unequal 26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness and committeth iniquity and dieth in them for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die 27 Again when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed and doeth that which is lawful and right he shall save his soul alive 28 Because he considereth and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed he shall ●urely live he shall not die 29 Yet saith the house of Israel The way of the Lord is not equal O house of Israel are not my ways equal are not your ways unequal 30 Therefore I will judge you O house of Israel every one according to his ways saith the Lord GOD * Mat. 3.2 repent and turn ‖ Or others your selves from all your transgressions so iniquity shall not be your ruine 31 ¶ Cast away from you all your transgressions whereby ye have transgressed and make you a * Jer. 32.39 Ch. 11.19 36.26 new heart and a new spirit for why will ye die O house of Israel 32 For * Ch. 32.11 2 Pet. 3.9 I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth saith the Lord GOD wherefore turn ‖ Or others your selves and live ye CHAP. XIX 1 A ●●●ntation for the princes o● Israel under the parable of ●i●ns wh●l●● taken in a pit 10 and for Jerusalem under the parable of a wa●ted vi●e MOreover take thou up a lamentation for the princes of Israel 2 And say What it thy mother a lioness she lay down among lion● she nourished her whelps among young lions 3 And ●he brought up one of her whelps it became a young lion and it learn●d to catch the prey it devoured men 4 The nations also heard of him he was taken in their pit and they brought him with chains unto the land of * 2 King 23.34 Jer. 22. 21 12. Egypt 5 Now when ●●e saw that she had waited and her hope was lost then she took another of her whelps and made him a young lion 6 And he went up and down among the lions he became a young lion and learned to catch the prey and devoured men 7 And he knew ‖ Or their widows their desolate palaces and he laid waste their cities and the land was desolate and the fulness thereof by the noise of his roaring 8 Then the nations set against him on every side from the provinces and spread their net over him he was taken in their p●t 9 And they put him in ward ‖ Or in ho●k in chains and brought him to the king of Babylon they brought him into holds that his voice should no more be heard upon the mountains of Israel 10 ¶ Thy mother is like a vine ‖ Or in thy quietnes● or in thy ●ikenes● in thy bloud planted by the waters she was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters 11 And she had strong rods for the sceptres of them that bare rule and her stature was exalted among the thick branches and she appeared in her height with the multitude of her branches 12 But she was plucked up in fury she was cast down to the ground and the * Hos 13.15 east-wind dried up her fruit her strong rods were broken and withered the fire consumed them 13 And now she is planted in the wilderness in a dry and thirsty ground 14 And fire is gone out of a rod of her branches which hath devoured her fruit so that she hath no strong rod to be a sceptre to rule this is a lamentation and shall be for a lamentation CHAP. XX. 1 God refuseth to be consulted by the elders of Israel 5 He sheweth the story of their rebellions in Egypt 10 in the wilderness 27 and in the land 33 He promiseth to gather them by the gospel 45Vnder the name of a forest he sheweth the destruction of Jerusalem ANd it came to pass in the seventh year in the fifth moneth the tenth day of the moneth that certain of the elders of Israel came to enquire of the LORD and sat before me 2 Then came the word of the LORD unto me saying 3 Son of man speak unto the elders of Israel and say unto them Thus saith the Lord GOD Are ye come to enquire of me as I live saith the Lord GOD I will not be enquired of by you 4 Wilt thou ‖ Or plead for them * Chap. 22.2 23.36 judge them son of man wilt thou judge them cause them to know the abominations of their fathers 5 ¶ And say unto them Thus saith the Lord GOD In the day when I chose Israel and ‖ Or sware and so vers 6 c. lifted up mine hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob and made my self * Exod. 3.8 and 4.30 known unto them in the land of Egypt when I lifted up mine hand unto them saying I am the LORD your God 6 In the day that I lifted up mine hand unto them to bring them forth of the land of Egypt into a land that I had espied for them flowing with milk and honey which is the glory of all lands 7 Then said I unto them Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes and defile not your selves with the idols of
† Cald. a prolonging in life was given them their lives were prolonged for a season and time 13 I saw in the night-visions and behold one like the son of man came with the clouds of heaven and came to the Ancient of days and they brought him near before him 14 And there was given him dominion and glory and a kingdom that all people nations and languages should serve him his dominion is * Ch. 2.44 Mic. 4.7 Luk. 1.33 an everlasting dominion which shall not pass away and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed 15 ¶ I Daniel was grieved in my spirit in the midst of my † Cald. sheath body and the visions of my head troubled me 16 I came near unto one of them that stood by and asked him the truth of all this so he told me and made me know the interpretation of the things 17 These great beasts which are four are four kings which shall arise out of the earth 18 But the saints of the † Cald. b●●●enes that is saints or places most High shall take the kingdom and possess the kingdom for ever even for ever and ever 19 Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast which was diverse † Cald. from all these from all the others exceeding dreadful whose teeth were of iron and his nails of brass which devoured brake in pieces and stamped the residue with his feet 20 And of the ten horns that were in his head and of the other which came up and before whom three fell even of that horn that had eyes and a mouth that spake very great things whose look was more stout then his fellows 21 I beheld and the same horn made war with the saints and prevailed against them 22 Until the Ancient of days came and judgement was given to the saints of the most High and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom 23 Thus he said The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth which shall be diverse from all kingdoms and shall devour the whole earth and shall tread it down and break it in pieces 24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise and another shall rise after them and he shall be diverse from the first and he shall subdue three kings 25 And he shall speak great words against the most High and shall wear out the saints of the most High and think to change times and laws and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time 26 But the judgement shall sit and they shall take away his dominion to consume and to destroy it unto the end 27 And the * Luk. 1.33 kingdom and dominion and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom and all ‖ Or rulers dominions shall serve and obey him 28 Hitherto is the end of the matter As for me Daniel my cogitations much troubled me and my countenance changed in me but I kept the matter in my heart CHAP. VIII 1 Daniels vision of the ram and he-goat 13 The two thousand three hundred days of sacrifice 15 Gabriel comforteth Daniel and interpreteth the vision IN the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared unto me even unto me Daniel after that which appeared unto me at the first 2 And I saw in a vision and it came to pass when I saw that I was at Shushan in the palace which is in the province of Elam and I saw in a vision and I was by the river of Ulai 3 Then I lifted up mine eyes and saw and behold there stood before the river a ram which had two horns and the two horns were high but one was higher then † Heb. the second the other and the higher came up last 4 I saw the ram pushing west-ward and north-ward and southward so that no beasts might stand before him neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand but he did according to his will and became great 5 And as I was considering behold an he-goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth and ‖ Or none touched him in the earth touched not the ground and the goat had † Heb. a horn of sight a notable horn between his eyes 6 And he came to the ram that had two horns which I had seen standing before the river and ran unto him in the fury of his power 7 And I saw him come close unto the ram and he was moved with choler against him and smote the ram and brake his two horns and there was no power in the ram to stand before him but he cast him down to the ground and stamped upon him and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand 8 Therefore the he-goat waxed very great and when he was strong the great horn was broken and for it came up four notable ones * Ch. 23.4 toward the four winds of heaven 9 And out of one of them came forth a little horn which waxed exceeding great toward the south and toward the east and toward the * Ps 48.2 Ezek. 20.2 Ezek. 20. ● pleasant land 10 And it waxed great even ‖ Or against the host to the host of heaven and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground and stamped upon them 11 Yea he magnified himself even ‖ Or against to the prince of the host and ‖ Or from him by him the daily sacrifice was taken away and the place of his sanctuary was cast down 12 And ‖ Or the host was given over for the transgression against the daily sacrifice an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression and it cast down the truth to the ground and it practised and prospered 13 ¶ Then I heard one saint speaking and another saint said unto ‖ The numberer of secrets or the wonderful numberer † Heb. P●lmoni that certain saint which spake How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice and the transgression ‖ Or making desolate of desolation to give both the sanctuary and the host to be troden under foot 14 And he said unto me Unto two thousand and three hundred † Heb. evening morning days then shall the sanctuary be † Heb. Justified cleansed 15 ¶ And it came to pass when I even I Dniel had seen the vision and sought for the meaning then behold there stood before me as the appearance of a man 16 And I heard a mans voice between the banks of Ulai which called and said * Ch. 9.21 Gabriel make this man to understand the vision 17 So he came near where I stood and when he came I was afraid and fell upon my

Israel is reproved and threatned for their impiety and idolatry ISrael is ‖ Or a vine emptying the fruit which it giveth an empty vine he bringeth forth fruit unto himself according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly † Heb. statues or standing images images 2 ‖ Or be hath divided their heart Their heart is divided now shall they be found faulty he shall † Heb. behead break down their altars he shall spoil their images 3 For now they shall say We have no king because we feared not the LORD what then should a king do to us 4 They have spoken words swearing ●●ls●y in making a covenant thus judgement springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field 5 The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Beth-aven for the people thereof shall mourn over it and ‖ Or Chemarim the priests thereof that rejoyced on it for the glory thereof because it is departed from it 6 It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to * Cha. 5.13 king Jareb Ephraim shall receive shame and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel 7 As for Samaria her king is cut off as the some upon † Heb. the face of the water the water 8 The high places also of Aven the sin of Israel shall be destroyed the thorn and the thistle shall come upon their altars * Isa● 2 9. XII 1 A reproof of Ephraim Judah and Jacob. 3 By former favours he exhorteth to repentance 7 Ephraims sins provoke God EPhraim feedeth on wind and followeth after the east-wind he daily increaseth lies and desolation and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians and oyl is carried into Egypt 2 The LORD hath also a controversie with Judah and will † Heb. ●isit upon punish Jacob according to his ways according to his doings will he recompense him 3 ¶ He took his brother * Gen. 25 2● by the heel in the womb and by his strength he † Heb. was a prince or behaved himself princely * Gen. ●● 24 c. had power with God 4 Yea he had power over the Angel and prevailed he wept and made supplication unto him he found him in * Gen. 35.9 10. utterly ‖ Or abolished rooted out 11 Who then should make more mourning then she that hath lost so great a multitude and not thou which art sorry but for one 12 But if thou sayest unto me My lamentation is not like the earths because I have lost the fruit of my womb which I brought forth with pains and bare with sorrows 13 ‖ But the earth after the manner of the earth whereinto the present multitude is gone again as it came out But the earth not so for the multitude present in it according to the course of the earth is gone as it came 14 Then say I unto thee Like as thou hast brought forth with labour even so the earth also hath given her fruit namely man ever since the beginning unto him that made her 15 Now therefore keep thy sorrow to thy self and bear with a good courage that which hath be faln thee 16 For it thou shalt acknowledge the determination of God to be just thou shalt both receive thy son in time and shalt be commended amongst women 17 Go thy way then into the city to thine husband 18 And she said unto me That will I not do I will not go into the city but here will I die 19 So I proceeded to speak further unto her and said 20 Do not so but be counselled by me for how many are the adversities of Sion be comforted in regard of the sorrow of Jerusalem 21 For thou seest that our sanctuary is said waste our altar broken down our temple destroyed 22 Our psaltery is laid on the ground our song is put to silence our rejoycing is at an end the light of our candlestick is put out the ark of our covenant is spoiled our holy things are defiled and the name that is called upon us is almost profaned our children are put to shame our priests are burnt our Levites are gone into captivity our virgins are defiled and our wives ravished our righteous men carried away our little ones destroyed our young men are brought in bondage and our strong men are become weak 23 And which is the greatest of all the seal of Sion hath now lost her honour for she is delivered into the hands of them that hate us 24 And therefore shake off thy great heaviness and put away the multitude of sorrows that the Mighty may be merciful unto thee again and the Highest shall give thee rest and ease from thy labour 25 And it came to pass while I was talking with her behold her face upon a sudden shined exceedingly and her countenance glistered so that I was afraid of her and mused what it might be 26 And behold suddenly she made a great cry very fearful so that the earth shook at the noise of the woman 27 And I looked and behold the woman appeared unto me no more but there was a city builded and a large place shewed it self from the foundations then was I afraid and cried with a loud voice and said 28 Where is * Ch. 4.1 Uriel the angel who came unto me at the first for he hath caused me to fall ‖ Or into the multitude in a trance into many trances and mine end is turned into corruption and my prayer to rebuke 29 And as I was speaking these words behold he came unto me and looked upon me 30 And so I say as one that had been dead and mine understanding was taken from me and he took me by the right hand and comforted me and set me upon my feet and said unto me 31 What aileth thee and why art thou so disquieted and why is thine understanding troubled and the thoughts of thine heart 32 And I said Because thou hast forsaken me and yet I did according to thy * Chap 5.20 words and I went into the field and so I have seen and yet see that I am not able to express 33 And he said unto me Stand up manfully and I will advise thee 34 Then said I Speak on my lord in me onely forsake me not lest I die frustrate of my hope 35 For I have seen that I knew not and hear that I do not know 36 Or is my sense deceived or my soul in a dream 37 Now therefore I beseech thee that thou wilt shew thy servant of this ‖ Or trance vision 38 He answered me then and said Hear me and I shall inform thee and tell thee wherefore thou art afraid for the Highest will reveal many secret things unto thee 39 He hath seen that thy ‖ Or purpose way is right for that thou sorrowest continually for thy people and makest great lamentation for Sion 40 This therefore is the meaning of the vision which thou lately sawest 41 Thou sawest a woman mourning and thou beganst to comfort her 42 But now seest thou the likeness of the woman no more but there appeared unto thee a city builded 43 And whereas she told thee of the death of her son this is the ‖ Or interpretation solution 44 This woman whom thou sawest is Sion and whereas she said unto thee even she whom thou seest as a city builded 45 Whereas I say she said unto thee that she hath been thirty years barren those are the thirty years wherein there was no offering made in her 46 But after thirty years Solomon builded the city and offered offerings and then bare the barren a son 47 And whereas she told thee that she nourished him with labour that was the dwelling in Jerusalem 48 But whereas she said unto thee That my son coming into his marriage-chamber hapned to have a fall and died this was the destruction that came to Jerusalem 49 And behold thou sawest her likeness and because she mourned for her son thou beganst to comfort her and of these things which have chanced these are to be opened unto thee 50 For now the most High seeth that thou art grieved unfeignedly and sufferest from thy whole heart for her so hath he shewed thee the brightness of her glory and the comeliness of her beauty 51 And therefore I bade thee remain in the field where no house was builded 52 For I knew that the Highest would shew this unto thee 53 Therefore I commanded thee to go into the field where no foundation of any building was 54 For in the place wherein the Highest beginneth to shew his city there can no mans building be able to stand 55 And therefore sear not let not thine heart he affrighted but go thy way in and see the beauty and greatness of the building as much as thine eyes be able to see 56 And then shalt thou hear as much as thine ears may comprehend 57 For thou art blessed above many other and ‖ Or at called to be with c. art called with the Highest and so are but few 58 But to morrow at night thou shalt remain here 59 And so shall the Highest shew thee visions of the ‖ Or
