great_a sin_n so_o then_o if_o thou_o will_v be_v humble_v and_o not_o discourage_v carry_v this_o rule_n up_o and_o down_o with_o you_o and_o always_o remember_v it_o upon_o all_o occasion_n it_o be_v my_o duty_n and_o i_o have_v reason_n to_o be_v humble_v for_o my_o sin_n although_o it_o be_v never_o so_o small_a but_o i_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o be_v discourage_v under_o my_o sin_n have_v a_o promise_v annex_v to_o it_o a_o promise_n of_o assistance_n a_o promise_n of_o acceptance_n and_o a_o promise_n of_o reward_n if_o you_o look_v upon_o the_o commandment_n itself_o without_o the_o promise_n than_o you_o will_v despair_v if_o you_o look_v upon_o the_o promise_n without_o the_o commandment_n than_o you_o will_v presume_v but_o look_v upon_o promise_n and_o commandment_n commandment_n and_o promise_n together_o than_o you_o will_v be_v humble_v in_o case_n you_o have_v sin_v but_o you_o will_v not_o be_v discourage_v the_o lord_n you_o know_v have_v give_v two_o eye_n to_o man_n and_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v put_v out_o one_o and_o say_v i_o can_v see_v well_o enough_o with_o the_o other_o what_o need_v i_o have_v two_o he_o shall_v sin_v great_o so_o for_o the_o commandment_n he_o shall_v do_v ill_a and_o very_o ill_a and_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v say_v i_o will_v put_v out_o the_o eye_n of_o conscience_n for_o i_o can_v see_v well_o enough_o with_o the_o be_v humble_v so_o as_o you_o may_v not_o be_v discourage_v take_v heed_n that_o you_o do_v not_o stand_v pore_v only_o upon_o your_o condition_n but_o rather_o say_v thus_o unto_o thy_o own_o soul_n o_o my_o soul_n thou_o have_v be_v much_o mistake_v the_o lord_n pardon_v it_o for_o all_o this_o question_n have_v be_v about_o thy_o condition_n and_o what_o will_v become_v of_o thou_o and_o if_o our_o joy_n our_o praise_n our_o thankfulness_n for_o his_o presence_n face_n and_o manifestation_n of_o his_o love_n he_o do_v sometime_o withdraw_v they_o so_o that_o in_o all_o his_o withdrawing_n he_o have_v a_o design_n of_o love_n upon_o our_o soul_n have_v we_o any_o reason_n then_o to_o be_v much_o discourage_v though_o desert_v answ_n 3_o three_o though_o it_o please_v god_n to_o hide_v his_o face_n from_o his_o people_n sometime_o insomuch_o as_o they_o be_v in_o the_o dark_a and_o in_o a_o very_a dark_a condition_n yet_o they_o be_v never_o so_o much_o in_o the_o dark_a but_o that_o they_o have_v light_n enough_o to_o work_v by_o for_o what_o day_n be_v there_o in_o all_o the_o year_n that_o be_v so_o short_a dark_a and_o gloomy_a but_o a_o man_n may_v see_v to_o work_v by_o indeed_o sometime_o the_o sun_n be_v in_o the_o eclipse_n sometime_o behind_o a_o cloud_n sometime_o it_o break_v not_o forth_o with_o his_o golden_a beam_n as_o at_o other_o time_n but_o if_o the_o sun_n be_v up_o and_o it_o be_v day_n a_o man_n have_v always_o light_a enough_o to_o work_v by_o now_o the_o sun_n be_v always_o up_o with_o the_o saint_n it_o be_v always_o day_n with_o they_o though_o the_o beam_n of_o the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n do_v not_o shine_v yet_o it_o be_v always_o day_n they_o be_v not_o child_n of_o darkness_n they_o may_v have_v a_o dark_a day_n of_o it_o but_o though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o dark_a they_o may_v find_v light_a enough_o to_o do_v the_o great_a work_n which_o they_o come_v into_o the_o world_n for_o which_o be_v to_o believe_v and_o trust_v and_o stay_v themselves_o on_o god_n this_o â—_o man_n may_v do_v in_o the_o dark_a time_n when_o he_o have_v no_o light_n and_o therefore_o say_v the_o prophet_n let_v he_o that_o walk_v in_o darkness_n and_o see_v no_o light_n stay_v himself_o upon_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n what_o then_o though_o you_o have_v not_o so_o much_o light_n as_o you_o will_v have_v to_o refresh_v yourselves_o by_o yet_o if_o you_o have_v light_a enough_o to_o do_v your_o father_n work_n by_o and_o the_o great_a work_n of_o this_o life_n be_v to_o trust_v in_o god_n and_o believe_v have_v you_o then_o any_o reason_n for_o your_o discouragement_n thus_o it_o be_v with_o all_o the_o saint_n though_o they_o may_v be_v in_o the_o dark_a and_o the_o sun_n shine_v not_o out_o upon_o they_o yet_o it_o be_v always_o day_n with_o they_o and_o they_o have_v light_n enough_o when_o it_o be_v dark_a to_o do_v their_o father_n work_n and_o business_n by_o and_o therefore_o certain_o the_o saint_n have_v no_o reason_n to_o be_v cast_v down_o and_o discourage_v although_o they_o be_v much_o forsake_v desert_v and_o in_o the_o dark_a object_n 1_o but_o jesus_n christ_n have_v not_o only_o desert_v forsake_a and_o withdraw_v himself_o from_o i_o in_o regard_n of_o vision_n but_o i_o fear_v also_o in_o regard_n of_o union_n not_o in_o regard_n of_o comfortable_a feeling_n only_o but_o in_o regard_n of_o strength_n and_o power_n and_o therefore_o i_o be_o afraid_a and_o discourage_v and_o have_v i_o not_o cause_n for_o it_o answ_n no._n for_o a_o man_n that_o be_v in_o the_o dark_a be_v not_o able_a to_o judge_n of_o his_o own_o grace_n or_o christ_n strength_n in_o he_o now_o you_o be_v in_o desertion_n therefore_o in_o the_o dark_a therefore_o not_o able_a to_o judge_n of_o your_o own_o grace_n and_o christ_n strength_n in_o you_o yet_o if_o you_o can_v judge_n in_o this_o condition_n and_o will_v deal_v faithful_o with_o your_o own_o soul_n be_v there_o not_o as_o much_o of_o christ_n strength_n and_o grace_n in_o your_o life_n and_o conversation_n as_o when_o you_o have_v that_o presence_n which_o you_o mourn_v after_o except_v your_o enlargement_n in_o duty_n i_o confess_v indeed_o that_o â—_o gracious_a man_n in_o time_n of_o desertion_n have_v not_o those_o enlargement_n as_o he_o have_v when_o god_n face_n shine_v upon_o he_o but_o set_v aside_o your_o enlargement_n what_o be_v there_o in_o your_o conversation_n want_v now_o which_o you_o have_v then_o and_o be_v the_o very_a want_n of_o enlargement_n a_o sufficient_a reason_n to_o say_v that_o christ_n be_v go_v and_o have_v forsake_v i_o not_o only_o in_o regard_n of_o vision_n but_o in_o regard_n of_o union_n strength_n and_o grace_n we_o read_v in_o cant._n 5.5_o that_o when_o christ_n withdraw_v from_o the_o spouse_n there_o be_v some_o myrrh_n leave_v upon_o the_o ringle_v of_o the_o door_n the_o spouse_n arise_v follow_v after_o he_o and_o enquire_v for_o he_o say_v do_v you_o see_v my_o beloved_a she_o meet_v with_o the_o watchman_n they_o smite_v she_o and_o she_o be_v willing_a to_o bear_v their_o smite_v that_o she_o may_v hear_v of_o christ_n she_o stand_v and_o admire_v at_o the_o beauty_n and_o excellency_n of_o her_o belove_a white_a and_o ruddy_a the_o fair_a of_o ten_o thousand_o now_o in_o this_o desertion_n of_o you_o be_v there_o not_o some_o myrrh_n upon_o the_o ringle_v of_o your_o heart_n do_v you_o not_o still_o stand_v admire_a christ_n and_o his_o excellency_n do_v you_o not_o inquire_v after_o your_o beloved_n go_v to_o one_o and_o to_o another_o say_v do_v you_o see_v he_o who_o my_o soul_n love_v be_v you_o not_o willing_a that_o the_o watchman_n shall_v smite_v you_o so_o you_o may_v but_o meet_v with_o christ_n again_o and_o will_v you_o say_v then_o he_o be_v not_o only_o go_v in_o regard_n of_o vision_n but_o in_o regard_n of_o union_n power_n strength_n and_o grace_n too_o sure_o you_o have_v no_o reason_n for_o it_o object_n 2_o but_o i_o be_o not_o only_o forsake_v and_o desert_v and_o want_v the_o comfortable_a feeling_n and_o manifestation_n of_o love_n which_o i_o once_o have_v and_o do_v now_o desire_v to_o be_v angry_a god_n be_v angry_a appear_v to_o be_v my_o enemy_n and_o have_v i_o not_o reason_n now_o to_o be_v much_o discourage_v answ_n no_o for_o if_o this_o have_v be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o saint_n before_o you_o why_o shall_v you_o fear_v your_o state_n in_o this_o respect_n now_o look_v into_o isay_n 57_o and_o you_o shall_v 〈◊〉_d that_o god_n say_v i_o be_v wroth_a and_o smite_v he_o he_o do_v not_o only_o hide_v his_o face_n but_o he_o be_v wroth_a yea_o he_o be_v not_o only_o wroth_a but_o he_o smite_v his_o people_n too_o and_o yet_o the_o promise_n be_v i_o will_v they_o be_v much_o refresh_v and_o if_o they_o want_v they_o than_o they_o be_v much_o discourage_v and_o say_v ah_o christ_n love_v i_o not_o and_o god_n be_v go_v will_v return_v no_o more_o why_o because_o they_o measure_v god_n eternal_a love_n by_o some_o present_a dispensation_n but_o if_o god_n present_a dispensation_n may_v seem_v to_o run_v cross_a to_o his_o eternal_a purpose_n why_o then_o shall_v they_o be_v discourage_v and_o say_v he_o be_v go_v for_o ever_o now_o so_o it_o be_v he_o may_v hide_v his_o face_n he_o may_v withdraw_v and_o deny_v particular_a comfort_n and_o manifestation_n yet_o love_v i_o eternal_o o_o that_o people_n will_v not_o measure_v god_n eternal_a affection_n by_o some_o present_a dispensation_n so_o shall_v they_o never_o be_v much_o discourage_v answ_n 2_o second_o if_o you_o will_v not_o be_v discourage_v in_o this_o condition_n take_v heed_n of_o let_v fall_v any_o despair_a despondent_a unbelieved_a speech_n for_o the_o more_o busy_a satan_n be_v about_o you_o in_o the_o time_n of_o desertion_n the_o more_o tedious_a will_v that_o time_n be_v and_o more_o full_a of_o discouragement_n now_o look_v as_o it_o be_v with_o some_o dog_n if_o you_o let_v fall_v a_o bone_n or_o bread_n or_o meat_n the_o dog_n stay_v and_o wait_v still_o but_o when_o he_o find_v none_o he_o go_v his_o way_n so_o it_o be_v with_o satan_n when_o a_o man_n be_v in_o a_o desertion_n he_o come_v and_o say_v he_o this_o be_v a_o time_n for_o i_o to_o work_v who_o be_o the_o first-born_a child_n of_o darkness_n and_o this_o soul_n be_v in_o the_o dark_a it_o be_v a_o fit_a time_n for_o i_o to_o work_v upon_o he_o there_o he_o stand_v and_o if_o any_o despair_a despondent_a speech_n do_v fall_v from_o you_o satan_n stay_v the_o long_o but_o if_o none_o fall_v he_o go_v away_o the_o soon_o have_v you_o therefore_o be_v or_o be_v you_o under_o any_o desertion_n and_o let_v fall_v any_o bone_n for_o satan_n look_v back_o and_o in_o your_o soul_n in_o the_o time_n of_o desertion_n one_o that_o do_v plead_v for_o christ_n to_o maintain_v and_o bear_v up_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n in_o your_o heart_n say_v he_o be_v go_v indeed_o and_o he_o do_v hide_v his_o face_n but_o he_o will_v come_v again_o and_o shine_v upon_o you_o again_o there_o be_v another_o party_n that_o do_v plead_v the_o cause_n of_o satan_n against_o christ_n say_v he_o be_v now_o go_v and_o will_v return_v no_o more_o you_o shall_v never_o see_v his_o face_n again_o in_o this_o case_n be_v sure_a that_o you_o do_v hear_v thing_n indifferent_o they_o will_v be_v sure_a to_o hear_v that_o at_o large_a but_o if_o christ_n come_v and_o tell_v they_o a_o story_n of_o god_n love_n to_o sinner_n that_o they_o hear_v not_o or_o if_o they_o do_v yet_o as_o a_o man_n that_o read_v a_o book_n to_o confute_v it_o be_v dispute_v against_o what_o he_o read_v all_o along_o so_o be_v they_o also_o dispute_v against_o the_o word_n of_o the_o gospel_n all_o along_o as_o they_o hear_v they_o say_v in_o their_o heart_n o_o but_o this_o be_v not_o make_v to_o i_o it_o be_v a_o good_a promise_n but_o it_o belong_v not_o to_o i_o this_o be_v not_o my_o condition_n and_o a_o hundred_o such_o o_o butt_n but_o be_v this_o equal_a how_o be_v it_o possible_a but_o that_o a_o man_n shall_v misjudg_a and_o be_v much_o discourage_v when_o he_o hear_v thus_o wherefore_o my_o exhortation_n from_o the_o lord_n be_v which_o i_o beseech_v you_o in_o his_o name_n to_o receive_v never_o receive_v any_o relation_n from_o the_o law_n but_o be_v assure_v your_o
