monument_n in_o church_n 2._o image_n of_o such_o angel_n saint_n etc._n etc._n which_o have_v be_v abuse_v to_o idolatry_n by_o be_v worship_v or_o most_o ready_o may_v be_v so_o abuse_v 3._o image_n erect_v for_o help_v our_o prayer_n to_o be_v accept_v and_o which_o h_o tv_o â—_o altar_n light_n or_o temple_n appoint_v for_o they_o which_o will_v be_v clear_a when_o we_o come_v to_o speak_v of_o religious_a worship_n and_o b_o â—wing_n thus_o peregrination_n and_o vow_n to_o image_n touch_v of_o they_o with_o some_o apprehension_n of_o fruit_n and_o advantage_n thereby_o especial_o when_o heal_n be_v expect_v from_o they_o and_o so_o be_v they_o abuse_v also_o though_o help_v be_v expect_v not_o from_o the_o image_n but_o from_o he_o who_o it_o be_v say_v to_o represent_v and_o thus_o also_o when_o any_o image_n once_o lawful_a come_v to_o be_v abuse_v it_o ought_v to_o be_v remove_v as_o the_o brazen_a serpent_n be_v by_o hezek_n â—â—b_n and_o under_o this_o prohibition_n come_v in_o the_o image_n of_o false_a god_n as_o cupid_n venus_n apollo_n jupiter_n etc._n etc._n which_o be_v once_o abuse_v beside_o some_o of_o these_o idol_n be_v nothing_o the_o pourtray_a of_o they_o make_v they_o appear_v something_o and_o if_o it_o be_v the_o lord_n way_n to_o command_v the_o break_n and_o destroy_v of_o all_o idol_n and_o image_n of_o false_a god_n can_v it_o be_v suitable_a to_o retain_v they_o in_o memory_n that_o a_o generation_n follow_v may_v have_v that_o occasion_n and_o help_v to_o idolatry_n viz._n the_o image_n of_o old_a idol_n from_o christian_n and_o if_o it_o be_v david_n and_o the_o saint_n way_n psal._n 16.4_o not_o so_o much_o as_o to_o mention_v their_o name_n but_o with_o detestation_n ought_v god_n people_n for_o sport_n or_o delight_n to_o look_v on_o these_o image_n zeal_n for_o god_n will_v abhor_v these_o curiosity_n and_o what_o edification_n can_v be_v in_o they_o we_o be_v now_o to_o clear_v the_o second_o question_n if_o any_o worship_n may_v be_v give_v and_o what_o worship_n be_v due_a to_o image_n of_o any_o sort_n and_o if_o it_o be_v not_o a_o breach_n of_o this_o command_n to_o give_v any_o religious_a worship_n to_o any_o of_o they_o that_o we_o may_v answer_v 1._o consider_v there_o be_v a_o twofold_a worship_v of_o image_n even_o among_o heathen_n the_o first_o be_v more_o gross_a when_o the_o worship_n be_v give_v to_o the_o image_n as_o be_v some_o godhead_n of_o itself_o thus_o some_o think_v the_o image_n of_o baal_n ashteroth_n etc._n etc._n and_o particular_a image_n that_o have_v special_a name_n be_v worship_v thus_o be_v man_n say_v proper_o to_o worship_v the_o work_n of_o their_o hand_n this_o be_v against_o the_o first_o commandment_n 2._o there_o be_v a_o worship_v of_o image_n as_o which_o they_o represent_v when_o man_n worship_v something_o in_o they_o or_o signify_v
yet_o we_o can_v but_o incline_v to_o think_v that_o there_o be_v some_o guilt_n that_o may_v and_o aught_o to_o be_v r_o â—pented_v of_o in_o such_o dream_n and_o so_o that_o man_n may_v in_o their_o sle_n â—p_a sin_n against_o these_o holy_a commandment_n see_v that_o in_o many_o dre_a â—ms_n as_o in_o many_o word_n the_o â—re_n be_v divers_a even_o sinful_a vanity_n eccl_n â—s_v 5.7_o this_o pleasure_n etc._n etc._n with_o delight_n where_o the_o heart_n frame_v such_o romance_n and_o please_v itself_o with_o meditate_v and_o feed_v on_o they_o which_o eccles._n 6.9_o be_v call_v the_o be_v not_o as_o a_o addition_n to_o our_o good_a which_o suppose_v discontent_a with_o what_o we_o have_v 4._o we_o take_v in_o here_o such_o concupiscence_n as_o though_o it_o approve_v not_o unlawful_a mean_n to_o prosecute_v its_o inordinate_a design_n yet_o it_o be_v too_o eager_a in_o the_o pursuit_n and_o discontent_n when_o it_o fall_v short_a as_o for_o instance_n when_o achab_n
