the_o spiritual_a sense_n of_o the_o soul_n wherefore_o we_o ought_v great_o to_o praise_n god_n for_o this_o goodly_a gift_n both_o of_o the_o light_n &_o of_o the_o eye_n which_o can_v sufficient_o may_v be_v a_o agreement_n &_o proportion_n between_o then0_n &_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o body_n for_o as_o the_o eye_n declare_v to_o the_o mind_n what_o they_o see_v that_o it_o may_v take_v knowledge_n thereof_o so_o when_o the_o mind_n have_v see_v
that_o which_o he_o think_v and_o conceive_v in_o mind_n and_o have_v as_o we_o use_v to_o say_v but_o a_o bad_a utterance_n which_o thing_n also_o may_v happen_v to_o good_a wit_n either_o for_o want_v of_o exercise_n and_o use_v or_o through_o some_o defect_n that_o may_v be_v in_o the_o body_n or_o in_o the_o instrument_n of_o the_o voice_n or_o because_o the_o matter_n whereof_o they_o speak_v may_v be_v profound_a obscure_a and_o difficult_a so_o that_o a_o man_n can_v easy_o find_v word_n fit_o to_o express_v the_o nature_n of_o it_o as_o the_o worthiness_n thereof_o require_v which_o reason_n oft_o entimes_o make_v wise_a and_o skilful_a man_n slow_a to_o speak_v because_o they_o know_v what_o a_o hard_a matter_n it_o be_v to_o utter_v in_o good_a sort_n that_o which_o be_v to_o be_v speak_v in_o so_o much_o that_o they_o have_v rather_o keep_v silence_n then_o speak_v ill_a or_o unproper_o but_o a_o light-head_n and_o a_o cocke-braine_n that_o be_v void_a of_o this_o consideration_n will_v think_v he_o have_v a_o more_o ready_a wit_n for_o he_o will_v speak_v before_o he_o ponder_v or_o discourse_v in_o his_o mind_n so_o that_o whosoever_o have_v not_o a_o ripe_a and_o stay_a reason_n nor_o temperate_a and_o settle_a sense_n he_o can_v not_o have_v his_o word_n set_v in_o good_a order_n nor_o his_o speech_n well_o knit_v and_o agree_v one_o with_o another_o as_o we_o have_v example_n hereof_o in_o child_n and_o fool_n and_o if_o a_o man_n have_v reason_n and_o judgement_n ready_a at_o hand_n but_o not_o stay_v and_o pithy_a he_o may_v well_o prove_v some_o great_a babble_a pleader_n but_o not_o eloquent_a for_o he_o only_o be_v to_o be_v account_v eloquent_a eloquent_a who_o can_v conceive_v well_o in_o his_o spirit_n and_o mind_n that_o which_o he_o ought_v to_o speak_v and_o then_o be_v able_a to_o express_v it_o well_o both_o by_o apt_a word_n and_o by_o sentence_n that_o be_v well_o tie_v and_o knit_v together_o we_o see_v then_o how_o the_o voice_n and_o speech_n of_o man_n lay_v open_a his_o whole_a heart_n mind_n and_o spirit_n but_o the_o voice_n of_o beast_n have_v no_o signification_n but_o only_a affection_n i_o mean_v such_o as_o be_v in_o man_n and_o which_o the_o grammarian_n call_v interjection_n because_o they_o be_v not_o frame_v into_o speech_n nor_o well_o distinguish_v as_o other_o be_v now_o if_o we_o understand_v all_o these_o thing_n well_o they_o may_v help_v very_o much_o to_o instruct_v and_o confirm_v we_o in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o trinity_n of_o person_n of_o the_o unity_n of_o the_o godhead_n and_o of_o the_o eternal_a generation_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n who_o be_v his_o divine_a and_o everlasting_a word_n likewise_o they_o will_v cause_v we_o to_o conceive_v more_o easy_o how_o this_o heavenly_a and_o eternal_a word_n namely_o jesus_n christ_n be_v the_o image_n and_o character_n of_o god_n the_o express_a and_o ingrave_v form_n of_o his_o person_n as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o epistle_n to_o the_o hebrew_n 3._o and_o not_o in_o shadow_n or_o paint_n for_o the_o glory_n majesty_n and_o virtue_n of_o the_o father_n be_v always_o hide_v from_o we_o but_o only_o so_o far_o forth_o as_o it_o show_v itself_o ingrave_v in_o his_o son_n and_o in_o his_o word_n man_n as_o the_o image_n of_o the_o mind_n appear_v imprint_v and_o engrave_v in_o the_o speech_n that_o be_v utter_v and_o as_o the_o internal_a word_n breed_v in_o the_o mind_n depart_v not_o from_o it_o neither_o be_v separate_v and_o yet_o it_o imprint_v a_o image_n thereof_o in_o the_o mind_n of_o the_o hearer_n to_o who_o it_o be_v declare_v so_o the_o divine_a and_o eternal_a word_n beget_v of_o the_o father_n be_v always_o resident_a in_o god_n and_o yet_o imprint_v his_o image_n in_o the_o heart_n and_o mind_n of_o man_n to_o who_o it_o be_v manifest_v by_o those_o mean_n which_o he_o have_v appoint_v for_o that_o purpose_n thus_o you_o see_v a_o gap_n lay_v open_a into_o these_o high_a and_o great_a secret_n of_o god_n which_o we_o ought_v to_o mark_v well_o follow_v such_o phrase_n of_o speech_n as_o be_v take_v from_o humane_a thing_n and_o use_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o use_n thereof_o and_o in_o those_o member_n and_o instrument_n of_o the_o body_n which_o serve_v to_o that_o purpose_n therefore_o amana_n let_v this_o matter_n be_v the_o subject_n of_o thy_o discourse_n of_o the_o agreement_n which_o the_o instrument_n of_o the_o voice_n and_o speech_n have_v with_o a_o pair_n of_o organ_n what_o thing_n be_v to_o be_v consider_v in_o the_o place_n of_o the_o lung_n next_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o pipe_n and_o instrument_n of_o the_o voice_n chap._n 14._o amana_n when_o we_o consider_v diligent_o all_o the_o instrument_n create_v by_o god_n in_o the_o body_n as_o well_o for_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o voice_n as_o of_o speech_n we_o shall_v find_v among_o they_o all_o thing_n requisite_a in_o the_o best_a and_o most_o perfect_a instrument_n of_o music_n that_o can_v be_v to_o make_v a_o good_a harmony_n and_o we_o shall_v know_v that_o no_o organ_n be_v so_o well_o make_v or_o dispose_v in_o such_o good_a order_n for_o the_o compass_v of_o their_o sound_n and_o melody_n as_o the_o instrument_n of_o the_o voice_n and_o speech_n of_o man_n be_v and_o by_o the_o consideration_n of_o this_o concordance_n we_o be_v admonish_v always_o to_o have_v the_o same_o thing_n in_o the_o mouth_n which_o we_o have_v in_o the_o thought_n to_o the_o end_n that_o from_o such_o a_o agreement_n as_o it_o be_v in_o every_o part_n of_o a_o organ_n and_o of_o a_o instrument_n of_o music_n tongue_n there_o shall_v proceed_v a_o good_a harmony_n and_o pleasant_a melody_n for_o if_o there_o shall_v be_v discord_n between_o the_o heart_n the_o tongue_n and_o the_o speech_n the_o harmony_n can_v not_o be_v good_a especial_o before_o god_n the_o judge_n of_o most_o secret_a thought_n no_o more_o than_o the_o harmony_n of_o a_o musical_a instrument_n quite_o out_o of_o tune_n will_v be_v pleasant_a in_o the_o ear_n of_o man_n &_o namely_o of_o good_a musician_n who_o can_v judge_v best_a of_o concord_n and_n discord_n first_o then_o we_o must_v note_v that_o the_o breast_n neck_n and_o head_n be_v as_o it_o be_v the_o instrument_n and_o the_o body_n of_o the_o organ_n within_o which_o they_o be_v put_v and_o enclose_v and_o by_o which_o they_o be_v sustain_v next_o that_o the_o lung_n be_v as_o it_o be_v their_o bellows_n to_o blow_v they_o therefore_o it_o be_v make_v of_o two_o piece_n join_v together_o like_a to_o a_o pair_n of_o bellows_n to_o draw_v in_o and_o to_o thrust_v forth_o the_o air_n and_o to_o help_v each_o other_o in_o respiration_n and_o breathe_n wherein_o we_o must_v call_v to_o mind_n how_o needful_a it_o be_v that_o the_o backebone_n and_o breast_n and_o the_o build_n of_o the_o rib_n shall_v be_v frame_v in_o that_o sort_n that_o we_o hear_v before_o that_o they_o may_v serve_v to_o this_o use_n &_o make_v room_n for_o these_o bellows_n to_o enlarge_v themselves_o and_o to_o do_v their_o duty_n lung_n we_o see_v also_o what_o their_o nature_n be_v what_o motion_n they_o have_v and_o from_o whence_o they_o receive_v it_o for_o god_n have_v create_v they_o of_o that_o nature_n that_o they_o move_v and_o remove_v of_o themselves_o by_o the_o virtue_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o life_n in_o the_o body_n without_o which_o they_o will_v be_v void_a of_o motion_n and_o can_v not_o do_v their_o office_n as_o we_o see_v in_o dead_a body_n and_o because_o the_o lung_n be_v the_o bellows_n that_o blow_n wind_n into_o the_o instrument_n of_o the_o voice_n without_o which_o it_o can_v not_o be_v make_v therefore_o they_o be_v lodge_v next_o to_o the_o heart_n so_o that_o they_o cover_v it_o to_o this_o end_n that_o man_n shall_v be_v admonish_v that_o their_o voice_n and_o their_o speech_n be_v the_o messenger_n of_o their_o heart_n together_o and_o that_o for_o this_o cause_n the_o heart_n and_o the_o mouth_n and_o the_o voice_n and_o speech_n which_o proceed_v from_o they_o always_o ought_v to_o consent_n and_o agree_v together_o for_o it_o will_v be_v great_a dissoluteness_n if_o the_o heart_n which_o ought_v to_o be_v the_o original_n and_o fountain_n of_o the_o speech_n shall_v think_v one_o thing_n and_o the_o speech_n which_o be_v the_o messenger_n of_o the_o
his_o judgement_n of_o this_o we_o ourselves_o may_v judge_v in_o that_o we_o see_v that_o there_o be_v no_o nation_n or_o people_n that_o live_v with_o no_o religion_n at_o all_o but_o they_o have_v one_o either_o true_a or_o false_a whereby_o they_o labour_v to_o appease_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o to_o be_v under_o his_o favour_n and_o protection_n according_a to_o that_o measure_n of_o knowledge_n which_o they_o have_v of_o he_o whereby_o they_o plain_o declare_v that_o there_o be_v a_o certain_a law_n within_o they_o take_v from_o the_o book_n of_o this_o natural_a divinity_n which_o condemn_v they_o in_o their_o heart_n &_o urge_v &_o constrain_v they_o to_o do_v that_o which_o they_o do_v even_o as_o we_o feel_v ourselves_o press_v and_o cnndemn_v by_o the_o write_a law_n which_o god_n have_v give_v unto_o us._n law_n wherefore_o if_o we_o know_v how_o to_o profit_v by_o they_o both_o they_o will_v both_o serve_v we_o in_o stead_n of_o a_o schoolmaster_n to_o remain_v now_o that_o we_o learn_v the_o four_o mean_v which_o pass_v all_o the_o former_a and_o that_o be_v divine_a revelation_n whereof_o we_o have_v make_v mention_n and_o those_o certain_a and_o infallible_a testimony_n which_o we_o learn_v of_o the_o holy_a scripture_n i_o mean_v the_o book_n of_o the_o prophet_n and_o apostle_n knowledge_n with_o the_o confirmation_n and_o understanding_n of_o they_o by_o the_o holy_a spirit_n for_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o we_o to_o have_v the_o word_n of_o god_n deliver_v unto_o we_o by_o they_o except_o the_o holy_a ghost_n have_v his_o work_n both_o in_o they_o &_o in_o us._n wherefore_o although_o natural_o we_o more_o easy_o and_o firm_o believe_v that_o which_o our_o mind_n be_v able_a to_o see_v know_v and_o comprehend_v by_o the_o natural_a light_n thereof_o then_o that_o which_o go_v beyond_o it_o yet_o forasmuch_o as_o god_n have_v make_v we_o capable_a of_o understanding_n and_o reason_n we_o ought_v to_o give_v no_o less_o credit_n to_o all_o that_o he_o have_v reveal_v unto_o we_o by_o his_o word_n yea_o much_o more_o to_o this_o howsoever_o by_o that_o light_n of_o nature_n which_o remain_v in_o we_o we_o neither_o two_o diverse_a and_o different_a light_n but_o one_o and_o the_o same_o as_o we_o shall_v well_o have_v know_v if_o our_o nature_n have_v continue_v in_o perfection_n and_o in_o that_o image_n of_o god_n in_o which_o it_o be_v create_v and_o frame_v far_o differ_v from_o all_o other_o creature_n for_o although_o there_o be_v in_o they_o some_o image_n of_o god_n man_n yet_o they_o have_v not_o understand_v to_o know_v it_o as_o it_o be_v neither_o to_o know_v god_n their_o creator_n who_o have_v imprint_v it_o in_o they_o but_o it_o be_v far_o otherwise_o in_o man_n for_o god_n will_v be_v know_v of_o he_o and_o therefore_o he_o have_v so_o imprint_v his_o image_n in_o his_o nature_n that_o he_o will_v have_v he_o to_o see_v and_o know_v it_o for_o this_o cause_n he_o have_v give_v he_o a_o mind_n and_o understanding_n able_a to_o to_o receive_v this_o knowledge_n for_o the_o great_a likeness_n and_o resemblance_n that_o man_n can_v have_v with_o god_n consist_v in_o the_o agreement_n with_o he_o in_o wisdom_n and_o justice_n which_o can_v be_v but_o in_o a_o nature_n that_o be_v capable_a and_o partaker_n of_o reason_n and_o understanding_n now_o because_o god_n be_v good_a yea_o a_o common_a and_o general_a good_a he_o will_v not_o withhold_v this_o good_a in_o himself_o without_o communicate_v it_o but_o make_v all_o his_o creature_n partaker_n thereof_o especial_o man_n with_o who_o it_o have_v please_v he_o to_o communicate_v this_o good_a of_o wisdom_n and_o justice_n which_o be_v the_o great_a and_o most_o excellent_a good_a that_o be_v in_o he_o therefore_o do_v god_n together_o with_o his_o image_n imprint_v his_o knowledge_n in_o the_o nature_n of_o man_n for_o man_n can_v not_o otherwise_o know_v this_o image_n and_o similitude_n neither_o what_o it_o be_v to_o be_v like_a or_o unlike_a to_o god_n if_o he_o have_v no_o more_o knowledge_n of_o god_n who_o and_o what_o manner_n a_o one_o he_o be_v than_o other_o creature_n that_o want_v this_o knowledge_n because_o they_o be_v not_o capable_a of_o understanding_n and_o reason_n nor_o of_o this_o image_n of_o wisdom_n and_o justice_n which_o be_v in_o god_n and_o by_o which_o man_n be_v make_v like_o unto_o he_o wherefore_o the_o first_o degree_n of_o this_o image_n and_o similitude_n that_o be_v in_o man_n appear_v in_o that_o power_n and_o faculty_n of_o understanding_n which_o god_n have_v give_v he_o and_o in_o that_o wisdom_n whereof_o he_o have_v make_v he_o partaker_n and_o which_o have_v some_o agreement_n with_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n so_o that_o before_o man_n sin_v the_o image_n of_o god_n be_v such_o in_o he_o that_o there_o be_v a_o perfect_a agreement_n of_o all_o the_o power_n and_o virtue_n of_o the_o soul_n between_o god_n and_o he_o for_o the_o internal_a sense_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o of_o the_o principal_a part_n and_o virtue_n thereof_o we_o make_v some_o mention_n of_o the_o will_n which_o ought_v to_o be_v direct_v and_o lead_v by_o understanding_n and_o reason_n it_o remain_v now_o that_o we_o look_v more_o narrow_o into_o the_o nature_n thereof_o and_o of_o the_o affection_n of_o the_o soul_n of_o the_o vital_a virtue_n always_o like_a to_o a_o ship_n carry_v hither_o and_o thither_o by_o diverse_a tempest_n which_o seek_v still_o some_o haven_n to_o arrive_v at_o but_o can_v find_v none_o so_o the_o will_n seek_v after_o the_o good_a which_o it_o desire_v run_v and_o skip_v from_o one_o to_o another_o without_o order_n and_o can_v find_v no_o rest_n except_o that_o heavenly_a light_n shine_v into_o the_o mind_n which_o may_v teach_v it_o the_o true_a good_a and_o frame_v it_o to_o the_o seek_v and_o embrace_v thereof_o light_n therefore_o when_o this_o light_n be_v in_o the_o spirit_n of_o man_n it_o first_o present_v to_o the_o will_v that_o infinite_a good_a namely_o god_n in_o who_o alone_o she_o may_v satisfy_v herself_o and_o then_o all_o other_o good_a thing_n that_o depend_v of_o that_o they_o his_o spirit_n &_o grace_n estate_n although_o it_o be_v never_o so_o little_a a_o while_n or_o when_o he_o do_v not_o manifest_a &_o show_v forth_o his_o virtue_n &_o power_n in_o they_o for_o without_o god_n we_o can_v do_v nothing_o &_o through_o he_o nothing_o be_v impossible_a unto_o us._n it_o be_v very_o certain_a that_o there_o remain_v always_o natural_a infirmity_n &_o corruption_n in_o man_n and_o that_o the_o mind_n reason_n &_o memory_n may_v be_v trouble_v by_o the_o affection_n of_o the_o heart_n which_o resemble_v a_o fiery_a surnce_n &_o be_v like_a to_o a_o thick_a smoke_n ascend_v out_o of_o a_o great_a fire_n which_o will_v dim_v the_o eye_n &_o make_v they_o as_o it_o be_v blind_a and_o when_o the_o light_n of_o the_o mind_n be_v thus_o darken_a reason_n can_v discourse_v so_o well_o nor_o judgement_n judge_v so_o upright_o nor_o memory_n retain_v so_o firm_o or_o bring_v forth_o so_o ready_o that_o which_o it_o have_v keep_v as_o if_o none_o of_o they_o be_v thus_o hinder_v with_o darkness_n which_o compass_v about_o the_o light_n that_o aught_o to_o guide_v they_o now_o if_o there_o be_v such_o a_o let_v &_o impediment_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o mind_n the_o will_n be_v much_o more_o trouble_a by_o this_o fire_n of_o affection_n that_o heat_v &_o kindle_v it_o whereby_o it_o be_v make_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o untoward_a to_o follow_v the_o counsel_n &_o advise_v of_o reason_n than_o reason_n be_v well_o affect_v to_o admonish_v and_o counsel_v it_o in_o that_o which_o be_v to_o be_v follow_v or_o to_o be_v flee_v and_o when_o these_o two_o principal_a part_n &_o power_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v thus_o trouble_v and_o move_v it_o be_v no_o marvel_v if_o man_n forget_v god_n &_o himself_o &_o if_o with_o all_o his_o soul_n &_o body_n he_o turn_v aside_o from_o that_o which_o he_o ought_v to_o follow_v after_o as_o contrariwise_o there_o be_v no_o doubt_n but_o that_o as_o long_o as_o the_o celestial_a &_o eternal_a father_n disperse_v his_o divine_a light_n into_o our_o mind_n by_o his_o son_n who_o be_v his_o eternal_a word_n and_o wisdom_n prepare_v they_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n to_o receive_v the_o same_o and_o by_o this_o mean_n also_o kindele_v the_o heart_n and_o will_n with_o the_o heat_n thereof_o dispose_v and_o frame_v they_o to_o follow_v this_o light_n no_o doubt_n i_o say_v but_o there_o will_v ensue_v a_o good_a agreement_n and_o great_a conformity_n of_o the_o mind_n and_o heart_n of_o the_o reason_n and_o will_n and_o of_o all_o the_o affection_n yea_o of_o all_o the_o sense_n and_o member_n of_o man_n but_o let_v we_o return_v to_o the_o sequel_n of_o our_o speech_n which_o have_v a_o especial_a respect_n unto_o the_o will_n we_o have_v then_o to_o consider_v more_o narrow_o of_o the_o power_n and_o freedom_n of_o the_o will_n both_o in_o her_o internal_a and_o external_a action_n for_o the_o first_o action_n if_o the_o question_n be_v of_o deliberate_v about_o any_o thing_n it_o be_v in_o the_o choice_n of_o the_o will_v to_o propound_v the_o same_o to_o the_o mind_n to_o advise_v and_o consult_v thereupon_o or_o otherwise_o not_o to_o propound_v the_o same_o unto_o it_o after_o while_o the_o matter_n be_v in_o deliberation_n she_o may_v command_v either_o to_o prosecute_v the_o same_o or_o to_o defer_v it_o to_o some_o other_o time_n or_o to_o give_v it_o and_o our_o whole_a life_n to_o the_o end_n that_o chase_a vice_n away_o we_o may_v follow_v after_o virtue_n and_o this_o by_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n jesus_n will_v lead_v we_o to_o that_o life_n in_o which_o we_o shall_v be_v perfect_o wise_a and_o good_a and_o live_v immortal_a and_o bless_a with_o god_n for_o evermore_o then_o as_o we_o shall_v see_v the_o creator_n of_o all_o thing_n face_n to_o face_n who_o otherwise_o be_v incomprehensible_a unto_o we_o so_o we_o shall_v know_v ourselves_o perfect_o in_o he_o perfect_o true_a it_o be_v if_o we_o understand_v well_o the_o
