faith_n for_o 1._o there_o be_v clear_a testimony_n that_o they_o make_v it_o unnecessary_a to_o be_v believe_v 2._o the_o testimony_n which_o seem_v to_o say_v that_o they_o do_v believe_v it_o do_v not_o necessary_o imply_v that_o they_o do_v 1._o that_o there_o be_v clear_a testimony_n that_o they_o do_v not_o account_v it_o a_o thing_n necessary_a to_o be_v believe_v both_o because_o they_o in_o term_n assert_v the_o nature_n of_o this_o procession_n to_o be_v incomprehensible_a and_o withal_o do_v as_o clear_o affirm_v the_o belief_n of_o that_o which_o do_v not_o imply_v this_o procession_n to_o be_v sufficient_a for_o salvation_n 1._o they_o in_o term_n assert_v that_o the_o mystery_n of_o this_o procession_n be_v incomprehensible_a and_o can_v you_o or_o any_o reasonable_a etc._n etc._n but_o then_o i_o say_v these_o thing_n be_v such_o as_o be_v either_o declare_v by_o they_o to_o be_v express_o reveal_v in_o scripture_n or_o necessary_o consequent_a from_o something_o as_o to_o the_o connexion_n of_o two_o proposition_n both_o of_o which_o be_v suppose_v distinct_o reveal_v in_o scripture_n we_o be_v bind_v in_o this_o case_n to_o believe_v such_o a_o connexion_n because_o both_o part_n be_v equal_o reveal_v by_o a_o infallible_a testimony_n though_o the_o mode_n of_o that_o connexion_n be_v to_o we_o incomprehensible_a but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o where_o neither_o clear_a revelation_n nor_o a_o necessary_a consequent_a from_o something_o which_o be_v divine_o reveal_v do_v enforce_v our_o belief_n of_o it_o as_o in_o our_o present_a case_n since_o we_o suppose_v it_o reveal_v in_o scripture_n that_o father_n son_n and_o holy_a ghost_n be_v god_n whatever_o be_v necessary_a to_o the_o belief_n of_o that_o though_o incomprehensible_a we_o ought_v to_o believe_v it_o but_o if_o there_o be_v something_o without_o which_o i_o may_v believe_v the_o deity_n of_o the_o father_n son_n and_o spirit_n and_o this_o not_o clear_o assert_v in_o scripture_n but_o be_v a_o thing_n in_o itself_o incomprehensible_a that_o can_v be_v make_v a_o necessary_a article_n of_o faith_n thus_o that_o the_o spirit_n do_v proceed_v from_o the_o father_n seem_v necessary_a on_o both_o account_n as_o consequent_a upon_o the_o belief_n of_o the_o trinity_n in_o unity_n and_o as_o clear_o express_v in_o scripture_n but_o that_o the_o spirit_n shall_v proceed_v from_o father_n and_o son_n as_o from_o one_o principle_n that_o they_o shall_v communicate_v in_o a_o action_n proper_a to_o their_o subsistence_n and_o yet_o be_v distinguish_v from_o each_o other_o in_o those_o subsistence_n and_o agree_v only_o in_o essence_n and_o if_o the_o spirit_n proceed_v not_o from_o their_o subsistence_n but_o from_o the_o essence_n the_o spirit_n must_v proceed_v from_o itself_o because_o that_o be_v common_a to_o all_o three_o these_o thing_n be_v in_o themselves_o incomprehensible_a and_o not_o necessary_a to_o the_o belief_n of_o the_o divinity_n either_o of_o son_n or_o holy_a ghost_n nor_o pretend_v to_o be_v clear_o reveal_v in_o scripture_n can_v be_v say_v to_o make_v a_o necessary_a article_n of_o faith_n the_o denial_n of_o which_o proceed_v from_o the_o father_n 15.26_o but_o neither_o be_v the_o procession_n from_o the_o son_n necessary_a to_o the_o belief_n of_o the_o deity_n of_o the_o son_n for_o if_o it_o be_v it_o will_v be_v as_o necessary_a to_o the_o deity_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n that_o the_o son_n shall_v be_v beget_v by_o the_o spirit_n neither_o do_v it_o follow_v from_o any_o place_n of_o scripture_n for_o the_o procession_n at_o all_o and_o when_o marcus_n ephesius_n in_o the_o florentine_a council_n read_v this_o creed_n the_o latin_n take_v no_o exception_n at_o all_o to_o it_o but_o it_o pass_v then_o as_o it_o do_v still_o for_o the_o nicene_n creed_n although_o it_o much_o differ_v from_o the_o original_a nicene_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v a_o great_a mistake_n of_o they_o who_o imagine_v the_o article_n of_o filioque_fw-la be_v find_v in_o some_o copy_n of_o this_o creed_n for_o this_o the_o latin_n never_o pretend_v in_o the_o florentine_a council_n but_o do_v indeed_o as_o to_o the_o creed_n of_o the_o second_o council_n of_o nice_a but_o be_v therein_o much_o suspect_v of_o forgery_n by_o the_o greek_n which_o may_v be_v the_o ground_n of_o that_o mistake_n but_o that_o which_o i_o insist_v on_o be_v if_o this_o article_n of_o the_o procession_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n from_o the_o son_n have_v be_v by_o these_o father_n judge_v necessary_a when_o have_v there_o be_v a_o fit_a time_n to_o insert_v it_o than_o now_o when_o purposely_o they_o add_v the_o procession_n to_o the_o former_a creed_n and_o yet_o we_o see_v they_o do_v not_o judge_v it_o at_o all_o necessary_a to_o be_v insert_v it_o may_v be_v you_o will_v say_v it_o be_v because_o the_o controversy_n be_v not_o then_o start_v concern_v the_o filioque_fw-la but_o that_o can_v signify_v nothing_o here_o because_o we_o have_v already_o show_v that_o the_o father_n themselves_o speak_v different_o concern_v it_o and_o look_v upon_o it_o as_o a_o thing_n not_o necessary_a to_o be_v know_v but_o the_o thing_n which_o be_v upon_o the_o rise_n of_o heretic_n insert_v into_o the_o creed_n be_v such_o as_o by_o the_o father_n be_v judge_v and_o believe_v as_o necessary_a before_o ever_o those_o heretic_n arise_v as_o in_o the_o case_n here_o of_o macedonius_n for_o i_o hope_v you_o will_v not_o say_v it_o be_v no_o heresy_n to_o deny_v the_o divinity_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n till_o it_o be_v determine_v in_o this_o ecumenical_a council_n for_o the_o father_n never_o think_v that_o they_o make_v article_n of_o faith_n in_o council_n but_o only_o declare_v themselves_o and_o what_o they_o believe_v against_o the_o heretic_n which_o do_v arise_v in_o the_o church_n and_o therefore_o that_o answer_n of_o the_o filioque_fw-la not_o be_v then_o controvert_v
