ourselves_o as_o if_o theâ—â—_n be_v nothing_o at_o all_o to_o be_v fear_v in_o it_o for_o this_o woe_n pronounce_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n do_v seem_v to_o presuppose_v aâ—â—_n relate_v unto_o be_v teach_v â—â—_o god_n to_o love_v one_o another_o so_o here_o it_o may_v be_v reasonâ—â—_n there_o be_v no_o need_n to_o be_v teach_v out_o of_o the_o scripture_n hâ—_n that_o our_o present_a life_n and_o time_n go_v away_o for_o by_o tâ—â—_n common_a knowledge_n and_o experience_n that_o god_n have_v giust_n to_o every_o man_n they_o be_v sensible_a already_o nay_o tâ—â—â—_n must_v know_v it_o whither_o they_o will_v or_o not_o that_o their_o lâ—â—â—_n and_o their_o time_n go_v away_o but_o god_n will_v more_o bundant_a to_o show_v unto_o the_o heir_n of_o promise_n the_o immutabâ—â—_n of_o his_o counsel_n herein_o as_o also_o that_o the_o common_a and_o 〈◊〉_d multitude_n of_o mankind_n may_v be_v more_o without_o excâ—â—â—_n if_o they_o have_v not_o provide_v for_o their_o latter_a end_n iâ—_n concern_v this_o as_o here_o it_o too_o common_o happen_v that_o man_n also_o know_v not_o his_o time_n as_o the_o fish_n that_o be_v take_v in_o a_o evil_a net_n and_o as_o the_o bird_n that_o be_v catch_v in_o the_o snare_n so_o be_v the_o son_n of_o man_n snare_v in_o a_o evil_a time_n when_o it_o fall_v sudden_o upon_o they_o to_o give_v yet_o more_o repeat_v warning_n of_o all_o this_o god_n have_v order_v it_o to_o be_v write_v also_o how_o that_o our_o life_n and_o our_o time_n go_v away_o for_o so_o it_o be_v express_v in_o the_o word_n of_o our_o text_n woe_n unto_o we_o for_o the_o day_n go_v away_o for_o the_o shadow_n of_o the_o evening_n be_v stretch_v out_o the_o word_n be_v metaphorical_a and_o signify_v the_o very_a same_o as_o what_o be_v aforemention_v that_o our_o life_n go_v away_o but_o the_o metaphor_n seem_v to_o be_v borrow_v from_o the_o sun_n that_o great_a light_n which_o god_n create_v and_o place_v in_o the_o firmament_n to_o rule_v over_o the_o day_n and_o to_o divide_v the_o light_n from_o the_o darkness_n for_o as_o long_o as_o that_o be_v above_o our_o horizon_n than_o it_o be_v day_n but_o when_o it_o move_v beneath_o the_o horizon_n than_o the_o shadow_n of_o the_o evening_n be_v stretch_v out_o and_o the_o night_n come_v on_o again_o it_o be_v not_o unknown_a to_o any_o one_o that_o be_v understanding_n in_o the_o scripture_n that_o the_o time_n of_o man_n present_a life_n be_v often_o express_v by_o this_o manner_n of_o speech_n his_o day_n if_o thou_o have_v know_v in_o this_o thy_o day_n the_o thing_n that_o belong_v to_o thy_o peace_n but_o now_o they_o be_v hide_v from_o thy_o eye_n to_o day_n if_o you_o will_v hear_v his_o voice_n harden_v not_o your_o heart_n as_o in_o the_o day_n of_o provocation_n and_o as_o in_o the_o day_n of_o temptation_n in_o the_o wilderness_n i_o have_v spread_v out_o my_o hand_n all_o the_o day_n unto_o a_o rebellious_a people_n for_o he_o say_v i_o have_v hear_v thou_o in_o a_o accept_a time_n and_o in_o the_o day_n of_o salvation_n have_v i_o succour_v thou_o behold_v now_o be_v the_o accept_a time_n behold_v now_o be_v the_o day_n of_o salvation_n in_o all_o these_o and_o alike_o place_v the_o word_n day_n signify_v all_o the_o time_n of_o man_n present_a life_n here_o on_o earth_n and_o so_o it_o do_v in_o this_o place_n of_o jer._n 6._o 4._o i_o shall_v not_o confine_v myself_o to_o the_o primary_n intent_n or_o exact_a coherence_n of_o the_o word_n as_o they_o be_v in_o the_o text_n but_o i_o shall_v treat_v of_o they_o in_o the_o large_a and_o common_a signification_n aforemention_v how_o that_o our_o life_n and_o time_n here_o on_o earth_n pass_v away_o and_o because_o i_o be_o give_v to_o understand_v that_o several_a do_v impute_v it_o as_o a_o fault_n and_o defect_n in_o my_o preach_n in_o that_o i_o go_v on_o altogether_o in_o one_o continue_a discourse_n but_o i_o do_v not_o so_o much_o make_v mention_n of_o the_o word_n first_o second_o three_o as_o other_o minister_n and_o preacher_n do_v which_o as_o they_o say_v be_v more_o for_o help_v of_o the_o memory_n and_o for_o the_o edification_n of_o the_o hearer_n therefore_o i_o who_o have_v think_v good_a to_o become_v all_o thing_n to_o all_o man_n that_o i_o may_v gain_v some_o have_v think_v good_a to_o handle_v this_o our_o present_a text_n in_o the_o follow_a method_n of_o these_o two_o proposition_n and_o afterward_o i_o may_v draw_v from_o thence_o some_o practical_a inference_n which_o be_v common_o call_v the_o use_n or_o application_n from_o the_o word_n woe_n unto_o we_o for_o the_o day_n go_v away_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o show_v together_o with_o the_o reason_n or_o reason_n thereof_o that_o it_o be_v a_o melancholy_a and_o sorrowful_a consideration_n in_o all_o people_n to_o consider_v thorough_o how_o that_o our_o present_a life_n go_v away_o and_o this_o i_o gather_v from_o the_o first_o introductory_n word_n woe_n unto_o we_o second_o because_o
that_o we_o wâ—â—â—_n rejoice_v in_o thy_o salvation_n and_o in_o the_o name_n of_o our_o god_n 〈◊〉_d will_v set_v up_o our_o banner_n even_o when_o we_o have_v scale_v anâ—_n be_v ascend_v up_o into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaveâ—_n which_o from_o the_o day_n of_o john_n the_o baptist_n suffer_v violence_n and_o the_o violent_a take_v it_o by_o force_n he_o that_o overcome_v i_o will_v his_o gloriâ—â—â—_n thing_n that_o be_v speak_v of_o thou_o o_o city_n of_o god_n amid_o all_o the_o casting_n down_o and_o disquietude_n soul_n under_o all_o the_o thought_n which_o trouble_v we_o 〈◊〉_d shall_v go_v on_o still_o in_o the_o way_n of_o duty_n with_o this_o faith_n and_o assurance_n i_o shall_v yet_o praise_v god_n though_o perhaps_o the_o affliction_n be_v so_o sore_o and_o the_o disappointment_n so_o vexatious_a that_o we_o be_v tempt_v in_o heart_n in_o like_a manner_n as_o job_n wife_n do_v he_o curse_n god_n and_o die_v we_o may_v beat_v back_o and_o answer_v the_o temptation_n with_o a_o like_a say_n of_o he_o thou_o speak_v as_o one_o of_o the_o foolish_a woman_n speak_v for_o this_o will_v be_v the_o utmost_a folly_n that_o can_v be_v if_o we_o shall_v go_v what_o if_o we_o do_v now_o receive_v evil_a at_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n nothing_o â—s_v so_o sure_a as_o that_o we_o shall_v receive_v good_a at_o the_o latter_a and_z provide_v that_o like_a unto_o his_o servant_n job_n we_o do_v not_o sin_n in_o the_o mean_a while_n nor_o yet_o charge_v god_n foolish_o i_o shall_v yet_o praise_v he_o who_o be_v the_o health_n of_o my_o countenance_n and_o my_o god_n this_o thing_n health_n of_o my_o countenance_n be_v a_o relative_a term_n and_o do_v answer_v unto_o and_o presuppose_v some_o sickness_n of_o body_n or_o mind_n which_o the_o psalmist_n in_o probability_n be_v than_o under_o as_o sickness_n of_o body_n be_v a_o forerunner_n of_o die_v and_o death_n the_o subsequent_a word_n my_o god_n contain_v in_o it_o life_n for_o evermore_o for_o the_o same_o creator_n that_o give_v life_n at_o first_o will_v again_o renew_v and_o restore_v it_o who_o turn_v man_n to_o destruction_n will_v say_v return_v you_o child_n of_o men._n herein_o he_o do_v take_v care_n of_o and_o provide_v against_o the_o evil_n of_o mortality_n corruption_n and_o dissolution_n the_o same_o god_n who_o be_v a_o very_a present_a help_n in_o the_o time_n of_o trouble_n be_v also_o all_o thing_n suitable_a and_o proportionable_a to_o the_o several_a needs_o and_o requiring_n of_o his_o creature_n for_o thou_o have_v be_v a_o strength_n to_o the_o poor_a a_o strength_n to_o the_o needy_a in_o his_o distress_n a_o refuge_n from_o the_o storm_n and_o a_o shadow_n from_o the_o heat_n now_o what_o be_v more_o proper_a and_o suitable_a under_o scorch_v neat_a than_o to_o get_v into_o the_o shade_n and_o so_o when_o a_o storm_n beat_v upon_o we_o to_o get_v somewhat_o for_o refuge_n from_o it_o as_o it_o be_v write_v and_o when_o all_o thing_n shall_v be_v subdue_v unto_o he_o than_o shall_v also_o the_o son_n himself_o be_v subject_a to_o he_o that_o put_v all_o thing_n under_o he_o that_o god_n may_v be_v all_o in_o all_o so_o in_o the_o future_a state_n god_n will_v be_v all_o in_o all_o towards_o the_o make_n up_o the_o persection_n and_o happiness_n of_o his_o creature_n that_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v ashamed_a to_o be_v call_v their_o god_n by_o provide_v for_o and_o secure_n unto_o they_o thing_n worthy_a of_o so_o great_a and_o good_a a_o god_n and_o as_o much_o as_o a_o creature_n can_v receive_v behold_v what_o a_o mighty_a word_n of_o consolation_n be_v here_o as_o also_o it_o be_v a_o most_o quicken_a exhortation_n to_o enforce_v that_o of_o the_o apostle_n what_o manner_n of_o person_n ought_v you_o to_o be_v in_o all_o holy_a conversation_n and_o godliness_n look_v for_o and_o haste_v unto_o the_o come_n of_o the_o day_n of_o god_n that_o you_o may_v get_v the_o favour_n and_o love_n of_o god_n whilst_o you_o be_v yet_o in_o the_o way_n but_o if_o these_o thing_n be_v so_o as_o most_o certain_o they_o be_v than_o some_o may_v be_v apt_a to_o put_v i_o in_o mind_n of_o my_o text_n and_o ask_v how_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o a_o woe_n be_v pronounce_v for_o the_o day_n go_v away_o which_o go_v away_o of_o the_o day_n do_v set_v we_o yet_o near_o to_o these_o happy_a thing_n may_v it_o not_o be_v more_o proper_o say_v instead_o of_o that_o woe_n pronounce_v bless_a and_o happy_a it_o be_v for_o we_o that_o the_o day_n go_v away_o and_o true_o because_o of_o that_o vanity_n and_o vexation_n of_o spirit_n which_o be_v in_o all_o thing_n under_o the_o sun_n because_o of_o that_o tediousness_n and_o irksomeness_n of_o life_n because_o of_o that_o final_a variety_n of_o all_o the_o thing_n below_o and_o it_o be_v all_o but_o almost_o the_o same_o thing_n over_o and_o over_o again_o in_o my_o think_v it_o will_v be_v woe_n unto_o we_o if_o the_o day_n do_v not_o go_v away_o for_o we_o shall_v be_v even_o weary_a and_o not_o able_a to_o abide_v here_o for_o ever_o if_o we_o may_v abide_v so_o in_o this_o state_n and_o as_o thing_n now_o be_v but_o the_o answer_n to_o the_o former_a part_n of_o this_o objection_n may_v be_v have_v by_o discourse_v on_o our_o second_o proposition_n viz._n because_o that_o all_o the_o wo'_v and_o threaten_n denounce_v in_o scripture_n be_v therefore_o make_v know_v unto_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o earth_n in_o order_n that_o they_o may_v take_v warning_n and_o avoid_v that_o same_o woe_n or_o threaten_v we_o be_v to_o learn_v from_o the_o scripture_n and_o from_o out_o of_o the_o truth_n oâ—_n thing_n how_o our_o conversation_n may_v be_v so_o order_v aright_o that_o the_o salvation_n of_o god_n may_v be_v show_v unto_o we_o and_o then_o though_o our_o life_n go_v away_o we_o shall_v avoid_v the_o woe_n that_o it_o will_v not_o belong_v unto_o we_o this_o be_v most_o certain_a that_o a_o woe_n do_v belong_v unto_o we_o and_o will_v at_o last_o fall_v down_o upon_o our_o head_n to_o our_o endless_a confusion_n and_o misery_n if_o we_o do_v not_o finish_v that_o work_n which_o god_n our_o creator_n send_v we_o several_o on_o this_o this_o earth_n for_o to_o do_v say_a jesus_n the_o forerunner_n who_o be_v enter_v before_o we_o into_o the_o vail_n i_o must_v work_v the_o work_n of_o he_o that_o send_v i_o while_o it_o wrought_v and_o accomplish_v for_o we_o which_o same_o work_n be_v to_o be_v do_v in_o this_o life_n that_o be_v the_o accept_a â—ime_n for_o the_o night_n or_o darkness_n of_o death_n draw_v on_o and_o there_o be_v no_o work_n nor_o devise_v nor_o knowledge_n nor_o wisdom_n in_o the_o grave_n whither_o thou_o go_v and_o therefore_o if_o we_o neglect_v to_o finish_v that_o work_n woe_n unto_o we_o for_o the_o day_n go_v away_o for_o the_o shadow_n of_o the_o evening_n be_v stretch_v out_o the_o son_n of_o man_n have_v give_v to_o every_o man_n his_o work_n and_o command_v the_o porter_n he_o come_v shall_v find_v so_o do_v then_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n that_o servant_n or_o rather_o idle_a person_n be_v curse_v and_o a_o woe_n be_v unto_o he_o if_o the_o lord_n when_o he_o come_v shall_v not_o find_v he_o so_o do_v but_o loiter_v or_o do_v that_o which_o be_v sinful_a or_o evil_a there_o be_v a_o
woe_n pronounce_v against_o or_o do_v belong_v to_o every_o sin_n iniquity_n transgression_n disobedience_n or_o any_o manner_n of_o evil_n as_o appear_v both_o from_o the_o old_a testament_n and_o the_o new_a in_o both_o which_o we_o find_v this_o word_n woe_n speak_v forth_o against_o they_o and_o where_o it_o be_v not_o speak_v forth_o in_o express_a word_n nevertheless_o it_o may_v be_v understand_v that_o it_o do_v appertain_v thereunto_o for_o the_o word_n of_o god_n speak_v or_o write_v be_v steadfast_a and_o every_o disobedience_n and_o transgression_n receive_v a_o just_a recompense_n of_o reward_n as_o aforesaid_a that_o all_o trouble_n grief_n or_o such_o like_a dotâ—_n hence_o arise_v because_o our_o life_n go_v away_o so_o likewise_o our_o sorrow_n may_v be_v reduce_v and_o bring_v back_o to_o thiâ—_n original_a cause_n because_o we_o have_v sin_v both_o these_o observation_n agree_v and_o meet_v together_o in_o one_o the_o matter_n true_o be_v this_o we_o be_v sorrowful_a because_o we_o hauâ—_n sin_v and_o we_o be_v sorrowful_a because_o our_o life_n goetâ—_n away_o for_o we_o be_v afraid_a that_o a_o punishment_n which_o wiâ—â—_n make_v miserable_a will_v be_v inflict_v on_o we_o for_o the_o samâ—_n sin_n after_o this_o present_a life_n which_o be_v now_o go_v away_o shall_v be_v end_v now_o the_o decree_n justice_n and_o will_n of_o god_n
