of_o their_o loyalty_n which_o the_o church_n of_o england_n have_v hitherto_o presume_v to_o have_v be_v entail_v whole_o on_o themselves_o a_o great_a many_o engage_v to_o live_v and_o die_v with_o he_o to_o the_o utmost_a of_o their_o life_n and_o fortune_n but_o pass_v by_o all_o other_o i_o will_v especial_o mark_v those_o who_o in_o the_o capacity_n of_o a_o grand_a jury_n thank_v the_o king_n for_o his_o declaration_n as_o it_o have_v prevent_v honest_a neighbour_n from_o indict_v one_o another_o in_o the_o thing_n of_o religion_n which_o to_o many_o conscientious_a man_n be_v a_o very_a great_a burden_n and_o to_o the_o whole_a kingdom_n a_o great_a vexation_n than_o i_o can_v now_o stand_v to_o speak_v of_o begit_v ill_a will_n and_o irreconsitable_a difference_n between_o one_o and_o the_o other_o of_o his_o majesty_n subject_n which_o be_v by_o this_o mean_n now_o take_v away_o it_o be_v hope_v their_o old_a correspondency_n will_v be_v henceforth_o renew_v in_o a_o true_a love_n of_o each_o man_n to_o his_o neighbour_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o this_o happy_a union_n between_o his_o majesty_n and_o his_o dissent_v protestant_n subject_n the_o church_n of_o england_n like_o the_o churlish_a elder_a brother_n mention_v by_o our_o saviour_n in_o the_o parable_n of_o the_o prodigal_n stand_v at_o a_o distance_n and_o grumble_n they_o will_v neither_o thank_v their_o princely_a parent_n for_o the_o favour_n he_o vouchsafe_v to_o themselves_o nor_o will_v they_o come_v in_o to_o rejoice_v with_o their_o young_a brethren_n upon_o their_o dutiful_a return_n and_o the_o king_n kind_a reception_n of_o they_o a_o thing_n so_o much_o the_o more_o culpable_a since_o none_o of_o the_o fat_a calf_n i_o mean_v the_o church_n revenue_n be_v in_o the_o least_o kill_v for_o they_o but_o be_v as_o they_o be_v before_o whole_o in_o the_o church_n of_o england_n own_o possession_n it_o be_v almost_o beyond_o rehearsal_n the_o dislike_n they_o show_v of_o this_o union_n as_o if_o they_o delight_v to_o keep_v up_o the_o same_o or_o raise_v other_o and_o worse_a confusion_n during_o his_o present_a majesty_n reign_n as_o they_o beget_v in_o the_o time_n of_o his_o four_o last_o predecessor_n the_o bond_n of_o this_o union_n which_o i_o may_v say_v be_v his_o majesty_n gracious_a declaration_n many_o of_o they_o can_v scarce_o hear_v name_v but_o they_o be_v ready_a to_o fly_v back_o like_a man_n that_o have_v tread_v on_o a_o serpent_n one_o shake_v the_o head_n another_o bite_v the_o lip_n a_o three_o scoul_n and_o frown_n with_o as_o many_o other_o evidence_n of_o their_o dislike_n as_o bodily_a gesture_n can_v show_v and_o it_o will_v have_v be_v well_o can_v they_o have_v content_v themselves_o within_o the_o bound_n of_o those_o tacit_a intimation_n of_o their_o displeasure_n but_o this_o they_o can_v not_o do_v they_o must_v also_o break_v into_o word_n and_o open_a censure_n such_o as_o i_o have_v name_v before_o i_o do_v not_o charge_v all_o with_o this_o but_o i_o must_v say_v i_o daily_o find_v and_o meet_v with_o a_o abundance_n too_o many_o that_o be_v so_o do_v insomuch_o as_o i_o think_v it_o high_o necessary_a for_o every_o man_n in_o his_o place_n to_o put_v a_o stop_n as_o far_o as_o he_o can_v to_o the_o further_a progress_n of_o it_o for_o myself_o i_o know_v no_o better_a way_n that_o i_o can_v take_v then_o to_o mind_v they_o of_o the_o inconsistency_n of_o such_o deportment_n with_o their_o boast_a of_o loyalty_n a_o thing_n of_o which_o they_o have_v seem_v to_o be_v as_o tender_v as_o of_o the_o apple_n of_o their_o eye_n and_o if_o they_o be_v still_o so_o serious_a therein_o as_o they_o will_v be_v esteem_v they_o shall_v as_o i_o conceive_v judge_v themselves_o not_o a_o little_a concern_v in_o a_o question_n i_o have_v here_o to_o propose_v to_o they_o and_o the_o rather_o because_o i_o undertake_v to_o maintain_v the_o negative_a the_o question_n be_v plain_o this_o viz._n whether_o it_o be_v consistent_a with_o that_o high_a degree_n of_o loyalty_n so_o much_o boast_v of_o by_o the_o church_n of_o england_n for_o their_o preacher_n in_o the_o manner_n they_o have_v do_v to_o preach_v against_o their_o king_n religion_n and_o both_o they_o and_o their_o church_n member_n to_o speak_v as_o they_o too_o frequent_o do_v against_o his_o proceed_v by_o his_o late_a declaration_n this_o question_n be_v the_o bottom_n of_o all_o my_o follow_a expostulation_n wherein_o that_o i_o may_v proceed_v with_o the_o more_o perspecuity_n i_o shall_v do_v no_o more_o than_o make_v inquiry_n into_o two_o thing_n first_o i_o shall_v examine_v wherein_o the_o high_a degree_n of_o loyalty_n according_a to_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o scripture_n may_v be_v say_v to_o consist_v second_o i_o shall_v inquire_v how_o the_o present_a behaviour_n of_o many_o of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n both_o clergy_n and_o laity_n agree_v with_o that_o loyalty_n which_o i_o shall_v describe_v in_o the_o first_o i_o be_o guide_v by_o two_o text_n of_o scripture_n from_o whence_o i_o may_v argue_v as_o much_o as_o i_o shall_v need_v to_o my_o purpose_n the_o one_o be_v that_o of_o rom._n 13_o 1_o 2._o let_v every_o soul_n be_v subject_a to_o the_o high_a power_n where_o subjection_n be_v require_v to_o be_v give_v for_o conscience_n sake_n which_o make_v it_o become_v a_o religious_a act._n to_o give_v subjection_n only_o because_o we_o can_v avoid_v it_o or_o because_o we_o be_v compel_v be_v the_o subjection_n of_o a_o infidel_n or_o a_o turk_n rather_o than_o a_o christian_n the_o opposite_a to_o this_o be_v resistance_n which_o be_v twofold_a first_o that_o which_o be_v by_o open_a violence_n to_o the_o person_n of_o he_o that_o be_v our_o sovereign_n or_o to_o his_o subordinate_a minister_n the_o second_o be_v when_o we_o disobey_v or_o speak_v against_o his_o precept_n edict_n or_o the_o declaration_n of_o his_o will_n which_o be_v send_v forth_o in_o the_o execution_n of_o his_o government_n for_o not_o to_o submit_v or_o to_o speak_v against_o what_o he_o direct_v be_v to_o resist_v so_o luke_n 21.15_o to_o gainsay_v and_o resist_v be_v make_v the_o same_o thing_n a_o man_n may_v make_v resistance_n as_o well_o by_o his_o tongue_n as_o his_o sword_n from_o whence_o i_o infer_v that_o one_o part_n of_o the_o high_a degree_n of_o loyalty_n be_v a_o cheerful_a and_o willing_a compliance_n with_o the_o declare_a will_n of_o the_o king_n in_o all_o thing_n without_o gainsaying_n not_o contrary_a to_o the_o law_n of_o god_n the_o other_o passage_n be_v that_o of_o st._n peter_n where_o we_o be_v bid_v to_o honour_v the_o king_n this_o be_v a_o degree_n much_o high_a than_o a_o bare_a forbare_n of_o resistance_n or_o dispute_v his_o command_n for_o a_o man_n may_v give_v obedience_n and_o be_v outward_o silent_a towards_o he_o who_o in_o his_o heart_n he_o slight_v to_o honour_v the_o king_n contain_v in_o it_o many_o act_n both_o internal_a and_o external_n our_o internal_a honour_v he_o lie_v chief_o in_o that_o reverential_a esteem_n we_o have_v of_o his_o person_n as_o he_o have_v the_o stamp_n of_o god_n authority_n on_o he_o the_o valuation_n we_o give_v to_o his_o virtue_n the_o faith_n we_o have_v in_o his_o word_n and_o promise_n the_o acquiescence_n of_o out_o mind_n in_o the_o administration_n of_o his_o government_n and_o judge_v the_o best_a of_o his_o action_n the_o contrary_a to_o these_o be_v jealousy_n prejudices_fw-la all_o bad_a wish_n and_o evil_a surmising_n and_o judge_v of_o his_o action_n in_o the_o worst_a sense_n the_o external_n way_n of_o honour_v he_o consist_v likewise_o of_o several_a part_n as_o when_o we_o be_v in_o his_o presence_n to_o use_v those_o bodily_a gesture_n as_o may_v best_o and_o most_o decent_o express_v our_o inward_a reverence_n and_o sense_n of_o his_o dignity_n the_o give_v he_o his_o honourable_a title_n to_o speak_v reverent_o of_o he_o in_o the_o hear_n and_o presence_n of_o other_o and_o prevent_v what_o we_o can_v all_o other_o
