and_o though_o it_o be_v true_a that_o corruption_n shall_v not_o get_v the_o day_n full_o that_o be_v though_o it_o may_v prevail_v for_o a_o while_n in_o some_o skirmish_n it_o may_v prevail_v praelio_fw-la but_o not_o in_o bello_fw-la as_o a_o enemy_n may_v in_o some_o skirmish_n have_v the_o better_a of_o it_o but_o yet_o the_o other_o may_v conquer_v at_o last_o and_o may_v get_v the_o day_n the_o day_n that_o be_v when_o it_o come_v to_o a_o pitch_v set_v battle_n that_o be_v the_o bellum_n and_o there_o he_o prevail_v if_o i_o can_v but_o prevail_v and_o get_v the_o day_n to_o be_v i_o then_o it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o it_o be_v true_a the_o saint_n of_o god_n they_o shall_v get_v the_o day_n at_o last_o but_o here_o as_o long_o as_o they_o live_v their_o corruption_n often_o prevail_v and_o foil_n they_o which_o be_v very_o grievous_a and_o burdensome_a to_o they_o chap._n xv._n the_o reason_n of_o the_o former_a point_n 1._o because_o coruption_n when_o it_o prevail_v weaken_v the_o heart_n 2._o by_o it_o god_n be_v dishonour_v 3._o by_o it_o our_o holy_a profession_n be_v scandalize_v 4._o by_o it_o they_o over_o who_o it_o prevail_v be_v make_v useless_a in_o their_o place_n 5._o thereby_o the_o mean_n of_o grace_n be_v make_v unprofitable_a 6._o thereby_o our_o peace_n with_o god_n be_v disturb_v 7._o thereby_o the_o assurance_n of_o our_o salvation_n be_v shake_v now_o for_o that_o to_o open_v it_o a_o little_a in_o the_o particular_n to_o show_v how_o burdensome_a it_o be_v to_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n when_o they_o do_v prevail_v in_o any_o measure_n they_o do_v not_o put_v it_o off_o as_o carnal_a people_n do_v with_o this_o we_o be_v all_o sinner_n and_o it_o be_v god_n grace_n to_o keep_v we_o and_o lord_n have_v mercy_n on_o we_o and_o the_o like_a no_o but_o they_o account_v the_o prevail_a of_o corruption_n the_o great_a burden_n that_o they_o can_v go_v under_o in_o the_o world_n and_o that_o in_o these_o respect_n i_o first_o because_o whensoever_o corruption_n prevail_v in_o what_o degree_n soever_o it_o weaken_v the_o heart_n it_o weaken_v the_o soul_n it_o may_v stir_v in_o the_o heart_n and_o if_o the_o heart_n do_v repulse_v it_o and_o get_v strength_n against_o it_o the_o heart_n be_v not_o weak_a as_o before_o but_o if_o it_o prevail_v in_o any_o degree_n it_o weaken_v the_o heart_n now_o we_o know_v that_o which_o be_v weak_a be_v sensible_a of_o a_o burden_n quick_o a_o sick_a man_n be_v a_o burden_n to_o himself_o and_o every_o thing_n be_v a_o burden_n to_o he_o now_o when_o any_o corruption_n prevail_v it_o make_v the_o soul_n sick_a and_o every_o thing_n be_v a_o burden_n to_o it_o and_o i_o beseech_v you_o consider_v here_o be_v a_o reason_n why_o you_o be_v so_o weak_a and_o be_v able_a to_o bear_v no_o other_o burden_n if_o any_o body_n across_o you_o when_o you_o come_v home_o wife_n child_n or_o servant_n cross_v you_o you_o can_v bear_v it_o if_o neighbour_n across_o you_o you_o be_v able_a to_o bear_v nothing_o there_o be_v a_o reason_n in_o this_o that_o you_o do_v not_o think_v of_o you_o have_v weaken_v your_o heart_n by_o some_o sin_n or_o other_o and_o break_v your_o peace_n with_o god_n it_o may_v be_v and_o now_o your_o heart_n come_v to_o be_v weak_a you_o be_v like_o a_o sick_a man_n that_o cry_v out_o upon_o any_o thing_n one_o that_o be_v sick_a cry_n out_o upon_o every_o thing_n whereas_o if_o he_o be_v strong_a &_o healthful_a he_o can_v bear_v a_o hundred_o time_n more_o so_o you_o have_v bring_v a_o sickness_n upon_o your_o soul_n there_o be_v some_o sin_n that_o have_v prevail_v with_o the_o you_o prevail_v over_o you_o and_o by_o that_o have_v weaken_v your_o heart_n and_o your_o spirit_n now_o be_v weak_a you_o can_v bear_v nothing_o every_o thing_n be_v a_o grievous_a burden_n to_o you_o so_o that_o the_o prevail_a of_o corruption_n come_v to_o be_v burdensome_a in_o this_o respect_n because_o it_o weaken_v the_o heart_n and_o make_v every_o thing_n burdensome_a to_o they_o two_o second_o the_o saint_n and_o people_n of_o god_n they_o account_v the_o privilege_n of_o corruption_n to_o be_v the_o great_a burden_n in_o this_o respect_n because_o they_o know_v that_o now_o they_o dishonour_v god_n especial_o if_o it_o prevail_v so_o as_o to_o break_v forth_o outward_o that_o it_o come_v to_o a_o outward_a actual_a sin_n than_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v burdensome_a to_o one_o that_o be_v gracious_a for_o the_o name_n of_o the_o bless_a god_n suffer_v by_o this_o my_o sin_n that_o have_v prevail_v all_o the_o while_n sin_n be_v but_o stir_v in_o my_o heart_n and_o do_v not_o prevail_v the_o name_n of_o god_n have_v not_o that_o dishonour_n as_o now_o it_o have_v now_o when_o sin_n have_v prevail_v it_o dishonour_v god_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v a_o burden_n unto_o the_o saint_n iii_o three_o it_o be_v a_o burden_n because_o it_o may_v be_v my_o holy_a profession_n be_v scandalize_v by_o it_o and_o be_v not_o this_o a_o burden_n howsoever_o many_o wretched_a man_n and_o woman_n will_v say_v they_o care_v not_o let_v other_o say_v and_o think_v of_o they_o what_o be_v a_o burden_n because_o hereby_o they_o come_v to_o be_v make_v useless_a in_o the_o place_n where_o they_o live_v many_o though_o they_o may_v have_v some_o soundness_n of_o grace_n in_o they_o and_o may_v go_v to_o heaven_n at_o last_o yet_o their_o corruption_n prevail_v over_o they_o they_o come_v thereby_o to_o be_v very_o useless_a in_o the_o place_n where_o they_o live_v they_o may_v live_v but_o themselves_o will_v be_v burden_n upon_o the_o earth_n for_o they_o be_v never_o like_a to_o be_v use_v to_o do_v any_o great_a service_n for_o god_n in_o the_o world_n they_o have_v so_o scandalize_v their_o profession_n by_o the_o prevail_a of_o corruption_n v_o five_o when_o corruption_n prevail_v over_o the_o saint_n as_o it_o make_v they_o unprofitable_a so_o it_o make_v the_o mean_n of_o grace_n exceed_v unprofitable_a too_o it_o harden_v there_o heart_n and_o they_o come_v to_o prayer_n hear_v the_o word_n and_o sacrament_n and_o find_v little_a good_a many_o of_o you_o complain_v you_o find_v not_o profit_n by_o prayer_n and_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o sacrament_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n such_o and_o such_o corruption_n have_v prevail_v over_o you_o it_o may_v be_v there_o be_v some_o sin_n that_o you_o live_v in_o that_o have_v prevail_v over_o you_o and_o therefore_o no_o marvel_n you_o do_v not_o profit_v as_o you_o desire_v vi_o six_o the_o prevail_a of_o corruption_n be_v a_o grievous_a burden_n in_o this_o regard_n because_o it_o be_v that_o that_o do_v extreme_o disturb_v one_o peace_n between_o god_n and_o our_o soul_n though_o there_o be_v many_o temptation_n yet_o if_o the_o heart_n can_v conquer_v they_o it_o have_v more_o peace_n by_o that_o mean_n never_o have_v the_o soul_n so_o much_o peace_n as_o when_o there_o have_v be_v strong_a temptation_n unto_o sin_n and_o a_o conquer_a over_o those_o temptation_n but_o if_o temptation_n conquer_v than_o there_o will_v be_v a_o disturbance_n of_o our_o peace_n and_o that_o be_v burdensome_a to_o those_o that_o do_v know_v what_o peace_n with_o god_n do_v mean_v vii_o seven_o the_o prevail_a of_o corruption_n be_v a_o grievous_a burden_n because_o it_o be_v that_o many_o time_n that_o shake_v the_o assurance_n of_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a i_o know_v not_o what_o those_o man_n will_v make_v of_o the_o lord_n prayer_n forgive_v we_o our_o sin_n if_o so_o be_v that_o they_o think_v whatsoever_o sin_n they_o fall_v into_o yet_o still_o they_o can_v keep_v up_o their_o assurance_n as_o much_o as_o before_o i_o say_v what_o will_v they_o make_v of_o that_o petition_n lord_n forgive_v we_o our_o sin_n at_o least_o to_o pray_v thus_o lord_n clear_o up_o the_o evidence_n of_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o our_o sin_n than_o it_o must_v needs_o follow_v that_o the_o fall_n into_o any_o sin_n and_o the_o prevail_a of_o any_o corruption_n must_v needs_o shake_v our_o assurance_n while_o we_o live_v here_o in_o this_o world_n now_o be_v not_o this_o a_o
that_o god_n aim_v at_o the_o execution_n of_o his_o just_a judgement_n upon_o they_o thereby_o 7._o god_n do_v it_o for_o this_o reason_n that_o the_o saint_n may_v long_o more_o after_o heaven_n therefore_o it_o be_v that_o the_o lord_n in_o the_o order_n of_o his_o providence_n work_v so_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v keep_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n in_o this_o world_n that_o they_o may_v long_o to_o be_v in_o heaven_n with_o their_o father_n and_o that_o when_o they_o come_v to_o heaven_n they_o may_v know_v the_o difference_n between_o heaven_n and_o earth_n between_o their_o state_n there_o in_o heaven_n and_o their_o state_n here_o on_o earth_n thus_o though_o corruption_n may_v be_v a_o great_a burden_n to_o we_o while_o we_o live_v here_o in_o this_o world_n yet_o the_o lord_n have_v many_o great_a end_n and_o purpose_n to_o suffer_v thou_o a_o poor_a creature_n to_o be_v under_o remain_v corruption_n and_o therefore_o thou_o can_v not_o draw_v any_o such_o argument_n god_n love_v i_o not_o for_o if_o he_o love_v i_o he_o will_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o corruption_n i_o have_v be_v pray_v a_o longtime_n to_o be_v deliver_v and_o yet_o i_o be_o not_o deliver_v do_v not_o gather_v any_o such_o argument_n from_o it_o you_o know_v paul_n pray_v once_o and_o again_o and_o all_o the_o answer_n he_o have_v be_v my_o grace_n shall_v be_v sufficient_a for_o thou_o so_o though_o thou_o pray_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n again_o and_o again_o yet_o if_o once_o god_n say_v thus_o to_o thy_o soul_n my_o grace_n shall_v be_v sufficient_a for_o thou_o thy_o corruption_n shall_v not_o crush_v thou_o and_o undo_v thou_o but_o i_o will_v sstrengthen_v thou_o this_o will_v be_v sufficient_a now_o from_o all_o this_o that_o have_v be_v say_v you_o may_v by_o way_n of_o consequence_n see_v first_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o difference_n between_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o godly_a and_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o wicked_a the_o wicked_a they_o sin_n and_o the_o godly_a sin_n too_o we_o use_v to_o say_v we_o be_v all_o sinner_n but_o it_o be_v to_o the_o one_o a_o burden_n to_o the_o other_o a_o delight_n second_o you_o may_v see_v from_o hence_o also_o one_o reason_n why_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n go_v on_o sometime_o so_o sad_o in_o their_o way_n thou_o do_v not_o know_v what_o burden_n they_o be_v under_o but_o you_o will_v say_v we_o be_v better_o we_o do_v not_o feel_v it_o no_o they_o have_v not_o so_o much_o sin_n as_o thou_o have_v they_o have_v get_v some_o grace_n thou_o have_v none_o they_o have_v in_o some_o degree_n mortify_v their_o sin_n thou_o have_v not_o yea_o they_o have_v their_o sin_n pardon_v thou_o have_v not_o but_o yet_o though_o they_o have_v some_o assurance_n that_o the_o guilt_n of_o their_o sin_n be_v remove_v yet_o the_o very_a remain_v of_o the_o corruption_n of_o their_o heart_n be_v their_o burden_n object_n you_o will_v say_v why_o shall_v it_o be_v so_o burdensome_a if_o they_o know_v the_o guilt_n of_o their_o sin_n to_o be_v forgive_v answ_n i_o beseech_v you_o observe_v it_o there_o be_v a_o deal_n of_o difference_n between_o a_o carnal_a heart_n and_o a_o godly_a heart_n one_o that_o have_v a_o carnal_a heart_n if_o he_o can_v be_v ease_v from_o the_o burden_n of_o conscience_n he_o be_v no_o more_o trouble_v but_o now_o a_o gracious_a heart_n though_o still_o upon_o he_o so_o that_o the_o very_o remain_v of_o some_o corruption_n be_v a_o great_a burden_n unto_o he_o than_o all_o thy_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o the_o full_a strength_n of_o it_o and_o together_o with_o thy_o corruption_n all_o the_o guilt_n that_o be_v upon_o thou_o only_o thou_o be_v dead_a in_o sin_n and_o do_v not_o feel_v it_o if_o a_o whole_a building_n fall_v down_o those_o that_o be_v bury_v in_o the_o grave_n they_o will_v not_o feel_v it_o but_o all_o you_o that_o be_v alive_a if_o it_o shall_v fall_v down_o will_v feel_v it_o so_o the_o wicked_a have_v the_o burden_n of_o their_o corruption_n in_o the_o full_a strength_n of_o it_o in_o the_o guilt_n of_o it_o upon_o they_o and_o they_o feel_v it_o not_o for_o they_o be_v dead_a but_o the_o godly_a though_o they_o have_v the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n remove_v yet_o the_o very_a lest_o sin_n remain_v in_o they_o be_v a_o burden_n though_o they_o have_v mortify_v their_o sin_n and_o do_v it_o every_o day_n yet_o the_o remain_v of_o sin_n be_v a_o great_a burden_n to_o they_o and_o hence_o you_o may_v see_v the_o reason_n of_o the_o watchfulness_n of_o the_o saint_n over_o their_o spirit_n why_o they_o spend_v so_o much_o time_n and_o rise_v so_o early_o to_o hear_v the_o word_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n you_o will_v say_v they_o know_v that_o if_o they_o do_v not_o labour_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o their_o corruption_n to_o a_o void_a sin_n it_o will_v be_v a_o great_a burden_n to_o labour_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o sin_n afterward_o now_o you_o do_v not_o watch_v over_o sin_n because_o you_o do_v not_o know_v what_o a_o grievous_a burden_n sin_n be_v when_o they_o labour_n under_o it_o but_o such_o a_o one_o as_o feel_v the_o burden_n of_o sin_n the_o lord_n be_v under_o all_o these_o burden_n and_o so_o much_o for_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n chap._n xviii_o of_o the_o burden_n of_o outward_a affliction_n and_o the_o grievousness_n thereof_o lay_v open_a in_o three_o particular_n 1._o in_o themselves_o they_o be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n 2._o they_o hinder_v much_o in_o do_v service_n to_o god_n 3._o they_o often_o help_v forward_o many_o strong_a temptation_n why_o god_n will_v have_v his_o saint_n to_o be_v under_o this_o burden_n namely_o 1._o evil_a we_o shall_v quite_o loose_v the_o habit_n that_o be_v quite_o loose_a the_o habit_n by_o one_o act_n and_o not_o only_o loose_v the_o habit_n that_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o particular_a evil_n that_o we_o do_v but_o lose_v all_o habit_n of_o all_o good_a whatsoever_o and_o that_o by_o one_o act_n now_o this_o be_v a_o thing_n above_o nature_n this_o be_v only_o by_o virtue_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n god_n make_v such_o a_o covenant_n it_o run_v upon_o such_o term_n as_o if_o adam_n do_v but_o sin_n in_o one_o thing_n he_o must_v die_v that_o be_v his_o soul_n as_o well_o as_o his_o body_n must_v die_v a_o spiritual_a death_n and_o so_o loose_a all_o habit_n of_o all_o grace_n and_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o we_o be_v by_o nature_n dead_a in_o sin_n further_o such_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o law_n that_o suppose_v god_n shall_v restore_v we_o all_o to_o be_v as_o perfect_a as_o ever_o adam_n be_v in_o the_o state_n of_o innocency_n void_a of_o all_o sin_n and_o have_v the_o image_n of_o god_n perfect_a and_o then_o god_n shall_v come_v and_o put_v we_o upon_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n again_o i_o say_v if_o we_o than_o shall_v but_o fail_v in_o any_o one_o thing_n it_o will_v break_v we_o so_o as_o we_o shall_v loose_v all_o our_o ability_n to_o perform_v any_o duty_n ever_o after_o this_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o law_n but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o the_o gospel_n though_o we_o sin_n against_o the_o gospel_n we_o do_v not_o present_o loose_v all_o our_o habit_n of_o grace_n but_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o difference_n that_o though_o adam_n when_o he_o sin_v against_o the_o law_n he_o lose_v all_o his_o habit_n to_o do_v any_o good_a after_o and_o that_o though_o we_o sin_n against_o the_o gospel_n yet_o we_o do_v not_o loose_v those_o habit_n that_o i_o shall_v show_v afterward_o when_o i_o shall_v come_v to_o show_v that_o the_o yoke_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v easy_a than_o that_o of_o the_o law_n and_o that_o be_v the_o four_o thing_n in_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n five_o the_o first_o thing_n be_v this_o that_o the_o law_n upon_o every_o breach_n it_o do_v take_v advantage_n against_o the_o soul_n present_o i_o say_v take_v advantage_n against_o the_o soul_n present_o and_o bind_v it_o over_o to_o death_n to_o eternal_a death_n present_o bind_v it_o over_o yea_o and_o bind_v over_o by_o god_n justice_n by_o such_o abond_n as_o have_v more_o strength_n in_o it_o then_o all_o the_o power_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n be_v able_a to_o break_v as_o a_o man_n that_o have_v do_v that_o that_o be_v evil_a it_o may_v be_v the_o law_n have_v not_o present_a execution_n upon_o he_o i_o but_o he_o be_v bind_v over_o present_o and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o in_o the_o second_o place_n the_o law_n pass_v sentence_n the_o bind_n over_o that_o be_v the_o guilt_n but_o the_o law_n pass_v sentence_n upon_o the_o sinner_n and_o condemn_v it_o the_o soul_n be_v present_o under_o the_o sentence_n of_o condemnation_n three_o the_o law_n put_v the_o sinner_n under_o a_o curse_n for_o so_o it_o be_v in_o the_o latter_a end_n of_o the_o 27._o of_o deu._n curse_a be_v every_o one_o that_o abide_v not_o in_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o the_o law_n to_o do_v it_o mark_v every_o one_o that_o abide_v not_o in_o every_o thing_n he_o be_v the_o sinner_n have_v break_v it_o the_o law_n can_v be_v satisfy_v with_o any_o obedience_n which_o may_v make_v amends_o afterward_o by_o any_o thing_n that_o the_o sinner_n can_v do_v suppose_v a_o man_n shall_v be_v never_o so_o angry_a and_o offend_v he_o that_o have_v offend_v he_o may_v make_v amends_o again_o a_o servant_n think_v though_o i_o have_v offend_v my_o master_n and_o do_v so_o many_o fault_n yet_o i_o will_v make_v amends_o for_o al._n so_o many_o people_n think_v though_o we_o have_v break_v the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o live_v a_o great_a while_n in_o sin_n and_o do_v that_o which_o be_v evil_a yet_o we_o will_v make_v amends_o again_o and_o we_o will_v give_v alm_n and_o come_v to_o church_n and_o the_o like_a these_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o many_o poor_a ignorant_a heart_n that_o do_v not_o understand_v upon_o what_o term_n they_o stand_v with_o god_n all_o the_o child_n of_o man_n stand_v before_o god_n either_o under_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n or_o under_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n one_o of_o the_o two_o now_o those_o kind_n of_o man_n that_o reason_n after_o this_o manner_n sure_o they_o be_v not_o acquaint_v with_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n they_o be_v under_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o now_o let_v they_o know_v that_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n admit_v of_o no_o such_o amends_o as_o they_o speak_v of_o but_o when_o once_o you_o have_v break_v the_o law_n all_o that_o ever_o you_o can_v do_v if_o you_o can_v live_v a_o thousand_o year_n never_o so_o strict_o or_o be_v willing_a to_o suffer_v never_o so_o much_o for_o god_n
and_o earth_n upon_o the_o frame_n or_o keep_v it_o in_o be_v the_o lord_n do_v not_o appear_v more_o to_o be_v a_o almighty_a god_n in_o keep_v heaven_n and_o earth_n in_o be_v than_o he_o do_v appear_v to_o be_v a_o almighty_a god_n in_o keep_v grace_n alive_a in_o the_o heart_n notwithstanding_o all_o the_o remainder_n of_o corruption_n so_o that_o in_o this_o god_n have_v glory_n in_o another_o way_n than_o he_o have_v from_o the_o angel_n in_o heaven_n the_o power_n of_o god_n appear_v in_o uphold_v of_o the_o angel_n for_o if_o he_o do_v not_o uphold_v they_o they_o will_v fall_v into_o evil_n as_o adam_n and_o the_o other_o angel_n do_v but_o therein_o appear_v god_n glorious_a power_n to_o uphold_v the_o angel_n but_o the_o glorious_a power_n in_o uphold_v the_o angel_n do_v not_o so_o much_o appear_v as_o the_o glorious_a power_n of_o god_n in_o uphold_v the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o their_o corruption_n this_o shall_v be_v a_o special_a argument_n that_o the_o saint_n shall_v praise_v god_n for_o to_o all_o eternity_n when_o they_o shall_v look_v back_o and_o see_v what_o a_o condition_n they_o be_v in_o before_o their_o conversion_n yea_o in_o their_o conversion_n that_o though_o god_n grant_v they_o some_o grace_n yet_o what_o abundance_n of_o corruption_n be_v in_o their_o heart_n all_o that_o time_n and_o what_o a_o deal_n of_o stir_n they_o have_v to_o maintain_v that_o little_a grace_n they_o will_v stand_v and_o admire_v to_o consider_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v keep_v alive_a in_o the_o midst_n of_o sin_n that_o a_o little_a spark_n shall_v be_v keep_v alive_a in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o sea_n not_o only_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o sea_n but_o when_o the_o sea_n be_v tempestuous_a you_o yil_v say_v it_o be_v no_o great_a wonder_n that_o the_o fire_n be_v keep_v burn_v when_o the_o sea_n be_v calm_a but_o when_o all_o be_v in_o a_o storm_n and_o yet_o a_o spark_n of_o fire_n shall_v be_v keep_v alive_a in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o the_o toss_n of_o the_o wave_n you_o will_v grant_v here_o be_v a_o mighty_a power_n now_o the_o keep_v alive_a of_o grace_n in_o thy_o heart_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o so_o much_o corruption_n do_v argue_v as_o mighty_a a_o power_n in_o god_n 2._o the_o lord_n do_v so_o order_v it_o that_o still_o his_o own_o people_n shall_v be_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o much_o coruption_n in_o this_o regard_n because_o that_o hereby_o the_o lord_n draw_v forth_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n in_o his_o son_n in_o which_o his_o soul_n take_v infinite_a delight_n the_o soul_n of_o god_n take_v infinite_a delight_n in_o behold_v the_o work_n of_o the_o glorious_a grace_n of_o faith_n in_o jesus_n christ_n but_o you_o will_v say_v wherein_o do_v it_o appear_v to_o be_v so_o glorious_a in_o regard_n of_o our_o corruption_n thus_o for_o the_o angel_n in_o heaven_n to_o believe_v in_o god_n that_o he_o will_v be_v eternal_o good_a to_o they_o it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o as_o for_o a_o poor_a soul_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o his_o corruption_n yet_o to_o be_v able_a to_o triumph_v in_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n notwithstanding_o i_o be_o so_o vild_a filthy_a loathsome_a and_o abominable_a to_o myself_o and_o just_o god_n and_o his_o saint_n may_v count_v i_o a_o burden_n to_o they_o and_o cast_v i_o off_o for_o ever_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o my_o soul_n shall_v cling_v to_o he_o i_o will_v cast_v myself_o upon_o he_o and_o look_v upon_o he_o as_o a_o gracious_a father_n a_o merciful_a god_n a_o god_n that_o love_v i_o a_o god_n that_o rejoice_v in_o do_v good_a to_o i_o for_o the_o soul_n to_o exercise_v faith_n in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n it_o be_v a_o glorious_a thing_n only_o take_v heed_n you_o do_v not_o mistake_v it_o for_o presumption_n object_n you_o will_v say_v for_o man_n notwithstanding_o all_o their_o sin_n to_o believe_v in_o god_n mercy_n this_o be_v rather_o presumption_n than_o faith_n answ_n true_o it_o be_v presumpion_n in_o many_o they_o mistake_v themselves_o but_o in_o other_o it_o be_v true_a faith_n and_o god_n delight_v in_o it_o and_o you_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o this_o it_o do_v draw_v the_o heart_n to_o god_n and_o the_o soul_n never_o find_v such_o a_o prevalent_a way_n to_o overcome_v those_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o it_o as_o to_o exercise_v their_o faith_n in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n i_o beseech_v you_o mark_v the_o difference_n between_o presumption_n and_o faith_n in_o christ_n presumption_n will_v trust_v in_o god_n mercy_n notwithstanding_o their_o sin_n but_o that_o do_v indeed_o foment_n their_o sin_n and_o make_v they_o secure_a in_o their_o sin_n make_v they_o the_o more_o secure_a in_o their_o sin_n but_o now_o when_o the_o soul_n shall_v by_o the_o true_a geminine_a act_n of_o faith_n rest_n in_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n notwithstanding_o corruption_n if_o it_o be_v right_a such_o a_o soul_n feel_v no_o mean_n in_o the_o world_n of_o great_a efficacy_n to_o cure_v and_o prevail_v against_o corruption_n then_o this_o to_o trust_v in_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n notwithstanding_o corruption_n and_o if_o thou_o find_v it_o thus_o thou_o have_v no_o cause_n to_o fear_v trust_v in_o god_n grace_n with_o confidence_n for_o it_o be_v that_o which_o be_v well_o please_v unto_o god_n and_o that_o which_o the_o lord_n delight_v in_o and_o that_o which_o give_v as_o much_o content_n to_o god_n heart_n as_o the_o exercise_n of_o any_o grace_n whatsoever_o and_o in_o that_o regard_n because_o the_o saint_n shall_v never_o exercise_v such_o a_o act_n of_o faith_n in_o heaven_n â—s_v this_o god_n will_v have_v this_o in_o this_o world_n 3._o this_o be_v that_o that_o god_n see_v do_v drive_v may_v find_v by_o this_o how_o your_o heart_n be_v when_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n be_v upon_o you_o in_o affliction_n than_o you_o will_v cry_v to_o god_n but_o i_o put_v this_o to_o you_o have_v there_o not_o come_v as_o strong_a cry_n to_o heaven_n upon_o the_o sense_n of_o your_o corruption_n as_o upon_o the_o sense_n of_o any_o affliction_n whatsoever_o 4._o the_o lord_n have_v glory_n in_o this_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o the_o work_n of_o repentance_n and_o humility_n the_o keep_v the_o soul_n of_o his_o people_n in_o humility_n and_o the_o contrition_n of_o their_o spirit_n that_o be_v exceed_o please_a to_o god_n the_o lord_n be_v near_o to_o a_o break_a contrite_a heart_n a_o melt_a mourn_a spirit_n the_o lord_n do_v delight_n in_o the_o evangelical_a work_n of_o repentance_n this_o please_v the_o lord_n the_o work_n of_o humiliation_n mourning_n and_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n in_o a_o evangelical_a way_n be_v a_o grace_n that_o be_v acceptable_a to_o god_n god_n shall_v have_v none_o of_o that_o in_o heaven_n and_o he_o have_v it_o therefore_o here_o 5._o god_n hereby_o exercise_v his_o wisdom_n exceed_o in_o bring_v light_n out_o of_o darkeness_n god_n do_v many_o time_n turn_v not_o only_o the_o affliction_n of_o his_o people_n to_o their_o good_a but_o he_o work_v good_a many_o time_n out_o of_o sin_n not_o that_o hereby_o we_o shall_v be_v bold_a shall_v see_v that_o the_o godly_a that_o have_v the_o most_o grace_n they_o have_v much_o corruption_n in_o they_o still_o they_o rejoice_v perhaps_o in_o it_o and_o they_o little_o think_v that_o god_n aim_v at_o the_o execution_n of_o his_o just_a judgement_n upon_o they_o that_o it_o shall_v harden_v their_o heart_n many_o wicked_a man_n they_o think_v their_o condition_n to_o be_v very_o good_a because_o they_o see_v so_o much_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o godly_a and_o they_o be_v harden_v thereby_o but_o they_o little_o think_v
it_o will_v seem_v a_o strange_a thing_n that_o if_o a_o king_n shall_v come_v to_o a_o woman_n and_o tell_v she_o he_o will_v be_v marry_v to_o she_o and_o she_o shall_v say_v no_o if_o i_o be_v a_o queen_n i_o will_v take_v he_o but_o she_o must_v first_o be_v marry_v to_o he_o and_o that_o make_v she_o to_o be_v a_o queen_n so_o here_o the_o soul_n must_v not_o first_o say_v if_o i_o be_v first_o sanctify_v and_o have_v overcome_v such_o and_o such_o corruption_n i_o will_v come_v to_o christ_n no_o but_o by_o come_v to_o christ_n &_o renew_v thy_o act_n of_o come_v to_o christ_n that_o sanctify_v thou_o that_o be_v a_o rule_n that_o i_o will_v leave_v with_o all_o young_a beginner_n spend_v more_o time_n and_o more_o strength_n in_o renew_v the_o very_a act_n of_o believe_a of_o roll_v thy_o soul_n upon_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n and_o cast_v thy_o burden_n upon_o he_o then_o in_o any_o other_o work_n what_o soever_o there_o be_v no_o other_o thing_n that_o thou_o can_v spend_v thy_o time_n &_o thy_o strength_n more_o profitable_o in_o than_o the_o renew_v the_o act_n of_o come_v to_o christ_n come_v say_v christ_n say_v the_o soul_n i_o have_v think_v i_o have_v come_v but_o i_o be_v deceive_v say_v christ_n yet_o come_v again_o and_o come_v again_o and_o again_o this_o be_v the_o only_a way_n to_o overcome_v any_o corruption_n in_o thy_o heart_n so_o that_o when_o christ_n call_v thou_o to_o come_v remember_v these_o rule_n oh_o that_o you_o will_v lay_v they_o up_o to_o make_v use_n of_o they_o at_o all_o time_n when_o you_o hear_v such_o thing_n out_o of_o god_n word_n remember_v what_o have_v be_v say_v in_o this_o text_n what_o be_v employ_v in_o the_o come_n what_o way_n you_o will_v come_v and_o o_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v kinswoman_n you_o have_v you_o will_v by_o that_o gather_v such_o a_o argument_n as_o this_o and_o all_o your_o friend_n will_v conclude_v sure_o the_o king_n do_v intend_v much_o good_a to_o this_o near_a union_n with_o he_o than_o the_o wife_n be_v take_v into_o the_o husband_n we_o may_v gather_v this_o argument_n and_o conclude_v sure_o god_n do_v intend_v much_o good_a unto_o the_o child_n of_o man_n and_o therefore_o come_v three_o from_o this_o consideration_n who_o christ_n be_v god_n manifest_v in_o the_o flesh_n we_o may_v gather_v this_o encouragement_n to_o come_v to_o he_o that_o the_o lord_n in_o unite_n the_o divine_a nature_n with_o the_o human_a in_o christ_n have_v do_v already_o a_o great_a work_n for_o the_o child_n of_o man_n than_o the_o save_n of_o their_o soul_n come_v to_o the_o save_n of_o thy_o soul_n be_v a_o difficult_a work_n thou_o think_v thus_o alas_o for_o i_o to_o come_v and_o think_v to_o be_v save_v by_o christ_n this_o be_v too_o great_a in_o the_o 24._o verse_n o_o wretched_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o death_n that_o be_v the_o remain_a corruption_n that_o be_v in_o his_o heart_n god_n but_o he_o thank_v god_n through_o jesus_n christ_n our_o lord_n thus_o we_o must_v understand_v how_o grace_n come_v unto_o we_o indeed_o god_n be_v the_o fountain_n of_o all_o but_o it_o must_v come_v from_o god_n through_o jesus_n christ_n our_o lord_n as_o all_o mercy_n that_o we_o have_v for_o the_o pardon_n of_o our_o sin_n now_o it_o be_v not_o from_o god_n immediate_o as_o the_o first_o person_n or_o as_o creator_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n but_o it_o be_v from_o god_n through_o jesus_n christ_n so_o all_o the_o holiness_n that_o we_o have_v now_o it_o be_v from_o god_n through_o jesus_n christ_n our_o lord_n and_o then_o take_v one_o scripture_n more_o and_o then_o we_o shall_v come_v to_o the_o three_o particular_a which_o be_v the_o chief_n we_o aim_v at_o and_o that_o be_v in_o the_o 26._o of_o the_o acts._n the_o latter_a end_n of_o 18._o verse_n that_o they_o may_v receive_v remission_n of_o sin_n and_o inheritance_n among_o they_o which_o be_v sanctify_v by_o faith_n that_o be_v in_o christ_n it_o be_v a_o speech_n of_o christ_n unto_o paul_n when_o he_o send_v he_o to_o preach_v and_o tell_v he_o to_o what_o end_v it_o shall_v he_o to_o open_v their_o eye_n and_o turn_v they_o from_o darkness_n to_o light_n and_o from_o the_o power_n of_o satan_n unto_o god_n that_o they_o may_v receive_v forgiveness_n of_o sin_n and_o inheritance_n among_o be_v upon_o christ_n for_o it_o be_v a_o pprophecy_n of_o he_o because_o the_o lord_n have_v anoint_v i_o to_o preach_v good_a tiding_n unto_o the_o meek_a he_o have_v send_v i_o to_o bind_v up_o burden_n to_o any_o man_n or_o woman_n that_o heretofore_o have_v assurance_n of_o god_n love_n and_o be_v able_a to_o look_v in_o god_n face_n with_o joy_n to_o have_v this_o assurance_n shake_v yea_o many_o time_n it_o make_v god_n withdraw_v his_o countenance_n which_o make_v david_n cry_v out_o restore_v to_o i_o the_o joy_n of_o thy_o salvation_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v lord_n i_o be_v wont_a to_o have_v joy_n in_o thy_o company_n in_o communion_n with_o thou_o but_o thou_o have_v estrange_v thyself_o from_o my_o soul_n o_o lord_n restore_v unto_o i_o the_o joy_n of_o thy_o salvation_n now_o be_v not_o this_o a_o burden_n for_o thou_o to_o loose_v the_o sweetness_n of_o thy_o soul_n in_o communion_n with_o god_n that_o now_o though_o it_o may_v be_v it_o be_v through_o thy_o weakness_n or_o what_o it_o will_v be_v yet_o thou_o can_v not_o look_v upon_o god_n with_o that_o comfort_n as_o thou_o will_v but_o the_o thought_n of_o god_n come_v to_o be_v a_o terror_n upon_o thy_o spirit_n be_v not_o this_o a_o burden_n now_o then_o be_v there_o any_o poor_a soul_n that_o understand_v what_o these_o thing_n mean_v what_o a_o burden_n the_o remain_a corruption_n of_o the_o heart_n be_v either_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o sinfulness_n of_o nature_n or_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o stir_n of_o corruption_n or_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o prevail_a of_o corruption_n that_o now_o they_o have_v no_o rest_n in_o their_o soul_n but_o be_v lade_v with_o such_o a_o burden_n and_o cry_v out_o with_o the_o apostle_n oh_o wretched_a man_n and_o woman_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o let_v such_o a_o soul_n know_v that_o this_o text_n belong_v to_o they_o come_v unto_o i_o say_v christ_n and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_v from_o this_o burden_n as_o well_o as_o the_o other_o burden_n and_o our_o rest_n be_v only_o in_o christ_n from_o this_o as_o well_o as_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n and_o the_o other_o burden_n that_o have_v be_v speak_v unto_o chap._n xvi_o why_o the_o saint_n feel_v these_o thing_n so_o burdensome_a namely_o 1._o because_o the_o life_n of_o grace_n be_v a_o tender_a and_o delicate_a thing_n 2._o because_o grace_n keep_v the_o soul_n in_o continual_a act_n and_o why_o god_n suffer_v corruption_n notwithstanding_o the_o burdensomness_n thereof_o to_o remain_v in_o the_o saint_n namely_o 1._o that_o hereby_o he_o may_v show_v forth_o his_o own_o power_n 2._o hereby_o their_o faith_n be_v exercise_v 3._o hereby_o they_o be_v drive_v unto_o prayer_n 4._o hereby_o stir_v up_o unto_o repentance_n 5._o hereby_o make_v know_v his_o wisdom_n 6._o hereby_o manifest_v his_o justice_n in_o lay_v a_o stumble_a block_n before_o the_o wicked_a 7._o hereby_o the_o saint_n may_v be_v induce_v to_o long_o more_o after_o heaven_n with_o two_o consequence_n issue_v from_o hence_o 1._o the_o difference_n between_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o godly_a and_o the_o wicked_a 2._o why_o the_o saint_n go_v on_o so_o sad_o in_o their_o way_n now_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v that_o a_o gracious_a heart_n must_v feel_v these_o thing_n to_o be_v very_o burdensome_a first_o because_o the_o life_n of_o grace_n wheresoever_o it_o be_v be_v a_o very_a tender_a and_o delicate_a thing_n nothing_o be_v so_o delicate_a and_o tender_a as_o the_o life_n of_o grace_n and_o therefore_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v sensible_a of_o this_o burden_n of_o corruption_n according_a to_o what_o degree_n it_o do_v remain_v in_o the_o soul_n as_o thus_o you_o know_v a_o man_n or_o woman_n the_o more_o delicate_a and_o tender_a they_o be_v in_o their_o flesh_n have_v have_v very_o curious_a bring_v up_o or_o it_o may_v be_v their_o natural_a spirit_n be_v very_o delicate_a more_o than_o other_o man_n some_o man_n their_o natural_a spirit_n be_v more_o gross_a and_o can_v bear_v burden_n with_o less_o sense_n but_o now_o those_o that_o be_v more_o fine_a and_o delicate_a if_o you_o lay_v a_o burden_n upon_o they_o oh_o how_o burdensome_a be_v it_o unto_o they_o now_o grace_n make_v the_o constitution_n to_o be_v delicate_a fine_a and_o pure_a a_o pure_a constitution_n it_o put_v the_o heart_n into_o a_o most_o pure_a constitution_n and_o therefore_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n according_a to_o the_o remainer_n of_o it_o second_o where_o grace_n be_v corruption_n must_v needs_o be_v very_o burdensome_a in_o this_o regard_n also_o because_o that_o grace_n keep_v the_o soul_n in_o continual_a action_n and_o stir_v now_o look_v as_o a_o man_n that_o have_v a_o leg_n that_o be_v break_v if_o he_o can_v lie_v still_o and_o never_o stir_v it_o will_v not_o be_v so_o grievous_a and_o burdensome_a to_o he_o the_o pain_n and_o break_n of_o his_o leg_n will_v not_o be_v so_o burdensome_a if_o he_o can_v lie_v still_o but_o if_o this_o man_n who_o leg_n be_v break_v must_v be_v stir_v walk_a and_o go_v up_o and_o down_o oh_o how_o burdensome_a be_v it_o that_o his_o leg_n be_v break_v so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o soul_n it_o be_v true_a if_o the_o soul_n may_v be_v still_o a_o sleep_n and_o do_v nothing_o then_o though_o there_o be_v corruption_n in_o they_o it_o will_v not_o be_v so_o grievous_a i_o but_o grace_n wherever_o it_o be_v put_v the_o soul_n unto_o action_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v call_v the_o divine_a nature_n because_o it_o be_v active_a it_o put_v the_o soul_n on_o to_o be_v act_v for_o god_n and_o in_o the_o way_n of_o life_n now_o grace_n put_v the_o soul_n to_o be_v act_v and_o corruption_n that_o be_v as_o the_o break_n of_o the_o bone_n it_o must_v needs_o be_v very_o burdensome_a that_o which_o most_o hinder_v their_o activity_n of_o grace_n must_v needs_o be_v very_o burdensome_a you_o have_v need_v therefore_o take_v heed_n what_o you_o do_v when_o temptation_n to_o sin_n come_v take_v heed_n you_o do_v not_o break_v your_o bone_n and_o your_o leg_n why_o because_o when_o you_o have_v break_v they_o you_o must_v be_v still_o stir_v and_o act_v for_o god_n a_o poor_a man_n it_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n worse_o for_o he_o if_o he_o break_v his_o leg_n than_o a_o rich_a man_n a_o rich_a man_n may_v sit_v by_o the_o fire_n or_o lie_v in_o his_o bed_n a_o month_n together_o but_o a_o poor_a man_n if_o he_o break_v his_o leg_n he_o do_v not_o know_v what_o to_o do_v he_o must_v to_o work_n perhaps_o he_o can_v have_v that_o harbour_n that_o a_o rich_a man_n may_v have_v so_o i_o say_v those_o that_o be_v of_o sluggish_a spirit_n though_o corruption_n prevail_v it_o be_v not_o so_o grievous_a unto_o they_o but_o those_o that_o be_v of_o active_a spirit_n and_o have_v grace_n and_o the_o more_o grace_n that_o any_o man_n or_o woman_n have_v the_o more_o burdensome_a their_o corruption_n be_v because_o the_o more_o grace_n there_o be_v in_o the_o soul_n the_o more_o active_a it_o will_v be_v for_o god_n quest_n but_o you_o will_v say_v see_v the_o remain_v of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heurt_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v so_o burdensome_a why_o do_v god_n so_o order_v thing_n in_o his_o providence_n as_o his_o own_o dear_a saint_n shall_v be_v so_o trouble_v with_o their_o corruption_n while_o they_o live_v in_o this_o world_n god_n can_v deliver_v they_o from_o their_o corruption_n why_o will_v god_n make_v they_o cry_v out_o o_o wretched_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o death_n god_n can_v as_o well_o perfect_a our_o sanctification_n as_o our_o justification_n why_o do_v god_n thus_o order_v thing_n in_o his_o providence_n that_o his_o own_o dear_a saint_n shall_v groan_v under_o such_o a_o burden_n of_o corruption_n all_o their_o day_n answ_n for_o that_o brief_o thus_o though_o it_o be_v true_a that_o god_n can_v present_o take_v all_o our_o corruption_n as_o soon_o as_o ever_o we_o come_v to_o jesus_n christ_n god_n can_v deliver_v we_o from_o our_o corruption_n but_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o he_o have_v many_o holy_a end_n why_o he_o do_v suffer_v his_o own_o people_n to_o be_v under_o this_o burden_n while_o they_o live_v here_o in_o the_o flesh_n as._n first_o that_o hereby_o he_o may_v show_v forth_o his_o own_o power_n the_o power_n of_o jesus_n christ_n be_v exceed_v magnify_v in_o this_o that_o it_o can_v uphold_v little_a spark_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o a_o ocean_n of_o corruption_n that_o it_o can_v uphold_v poor_a weak_a creature_n under_o such_o burden_n and_o carry_v they_o on_o notwithstanding_o and_o bring_v they_o to_o eternal_a life_n the_o power_n and_o grace_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o the_o power_n of_o god_n be_v as_o much_o manifest_v in_o this_o thing_n as_o it_o be_v in_o keep_v heaven_n
