careless_a person_n shall_v we_o be_v if_o it_o be_v not_o for_o the_o help_n of_o suffering_n grace_n use_v to_o work_v by_o mean_n and_o this_o be_v the_o common_a mean_n 4._o consider_v that_o pain_n and_o suffering_n we_o shall_v have_v whether_o for_o christ_n or_o not_o the_o worst_a man_n undergo_v almost_o as_o much_o by_o ordinary_a sickness_n and_o loss_n and_o cross_n as_o the_o martyr_n do_v that_o suffer_v for_o christ_n sin_n will_v bring_v suffer_v and_o it_o be_v better_a have_v that_o which_o be_v sanctify_v by_o the_o interest_n of_o christ_n than_o that_o which_o be_v not_o 5._o and_o a_o christian_n that_o have_v so_o much_o ado_n to_o curb_v and_o rule_v the_o flesh_n in_o prosperity_n i_o think_v shall_v the_o more_o patient_o bear_v adversity_n because_o god_n set_v in_o by_o it_o and_o help_v he_o to_o subdue_v the_o flesh_n and_o tame_v the_o body_n and_o bring_v it_o in_o subjection_n and_o as_o it_o be_v but_o this_o burdensome_a flesh_n that_o suffer_v which_o have_v be_v the_o cause_n of_o so_o much_o suffer_v to_o our_o mind_n so_o our_o warfare_n against_o this_o flesh_n which_o we_o manage_v through_o the_o course_n of_o our_o life_n go_v on_o more_o prosperous_o in_o the_o time_n of_o its_o suffering_n than_o in_o prosperity_n a_o weaken_a enemy_n be_v easy_o conquer_v do_v not_o therefore_o too_o much_o take_v part_n with_o the_o suffer_a flesh_n but_o self-denying_o justify_v the_o proceed_n of_o the_o lord_n 6._o and_o consider_v that_o the_o pain_n and_o suffering_n will_v be_v but_o short_a it_o be_v but_o a_o little_a while_n and_o you_o shall_v feel_v no_o more_o than_o if_o you_o have_v feel_v nothing_o and_o that_o which_o short_o will_v not_o be_v be_v next_o to_o that_o which_o be_v not_o as_o it_o make_v all_o the_o or_o remember_v only_o to_o increase_v your_o joy_n when_o you_o be_v pass_v the_o brunt_n and_o safe_a with_o christ_n you_o will_v never_o repent_v of_o your_o suffering_n on_o earth_n nor_o will_v it_o trouble_v you_o then_o to_o think_v of_o the_o shame_n or_o sickness_n or_o pain_n and_o torment_n that_o here_o you_o be_v put_v
against_o nature_n to_o consent_v to_o die_v but_o when_o it_o be_v for_o he_o that_o be_v the_o lord_n and_o end_n of_o life_n it_o be_v agreeable_a to_o nature_n that_o be_v though_o it_o be_v against_o our_o natural_a inclination_n as_o we_o be_v animate_v and_o sensitive_a yet_o be_v it_o agreeable_a to_o our_o true_a nature_n as_o reasonable_a and_o therefore_o lie_v all_o together_o &_o it_o be_v to_o be_v say_v to_o be_v agreeable_a to_o nature_n simple_o in_o such_o a_o case_n because_o it_o be_v agreeable_a to_o the_o principal_a part_n in_o nature_n which_o shall_v be_v predominant_a it_o be_v agreeable_a to_o nature_n also_o that_o reason_n shall_v dispose_v of_o the_o inferior_a power_n of_o the_o soul_n object_n but_o when_o you_o have_v say_v all_o that_o you_o to_o persuade_v i_o not_o to_o feel_v when_o i_o be_o hurt_v or_o to_o be_v hungry_a or_o thirsty_a or_o sleepy_a which_o be_v not_o in_o my_o power_n because_o these_o thing_n be_v natural_a answ_n 1._o though_o hunger_n and_o thirst_n and_o other_o natural_a and_o sensitive_a appetite_n or_o passion_n be_v not_o in_o your_o power_n yet_o a_o consent_n of_o the_o will_v to_o deny_v these_o be_v in_o your_o power_n as_o natural_a as_o it_o be_v to_o hunger_n and_o thirst_n your_o superior_a faculty_n of_o reason_n can_v prevail_v with_o you_o to_o suffer_v hunger_n and_o thirst_n in_o a_o siege_n or_o sickness_n when_o the_o suffering_n of_o it_o will_v save_v your_o life_n you_o will_v be_v rule_v by_o your_o physician_n to_o forbear_v not_o only_o many_o a_o dish_n but_o many_o a_o meal_n which_o your_o appetite_n desire_v and_o your_o reason_n can_v persuade_v you_o to_o suffer_v the_o open_n of_o a_o vein_n and_o the_o draw_v out_o of_o your_o own_o blood_n yea_o or_o the_o cut_n off_o a_o member_n when_o it_o be_v to_o save_v your_o life_n for_o all_o that_o feel_n and_o self-love_n be_v natural_a to_o you_o and_o you_o be_v not_o acquaint_v with_o the_o nature_n of_o friendship_n if_o you_o will_v not_o suffer_v much_o for_o a_o friend_n nor_o with_o humane_a affection_n if_o you_o will_v not_o suffer_v much_o for_o parent_n or_o child_n or_o your_o country_n so_o that_o your_o will_n be_v free_a though_o your_o sense_n be_v not_o free_a nor_o your_o natural_a appetite_n though_o you_o can_v choose_v but_o feel_v when_o you_o be_v hurt_v you_o may_v consent_v to_o that_o feel_n for_o a_o great_a good_a 2._o and_o according_a to_o the_o tenor_n of_o this_o objection_n you_o may_v as_o wise_o and_o honest_o plead_v for_o most_o of_o the_o wickedness_n of_o the_o world_n and_o say_v it_o be_v natural_a to_o i_o to_o lust_n and_o therefore_o i_o may_v play_v the_o adulterer_n and_o fulfil_v it_o it_o be_v natural_a to_o i_o to_o desire_v meat_n and_o drink_n and_o therefore_o i_o may_v eat_v and_o drink_v as_o long_o as_o i_o desire_v it_o it_o be_v natural_a to_o i_o to_o seek_v to_o hurt_v those_o that_o i_o be_o much_o angry_a with_o or_o hate_v and_o therefore_o i_o may_v beat_v or_o kill_v they_o if_o you_o must_v deny_v the_o passion_n and_o sensitive_a appetite_n and_o the_o inferior_a faculty_n of_o nature_n in_o one_o thing_n why_o not_o in_o another_o these_o low_a power_n be_v make_v to_o be_v rule_v by_o reason_n as_o beast_n be_v make_v to_o be_v rule_v by_o man_n and_o more_o and_o therefore_o see_v this_o argument_n from_o nature_n be_v but_o from_o the_o brutish_a part_n of_o nature_n it_o be_v but_o a_o brutish_a argument_n and_o if_o yet_o you_o say_v that_o for_o all_o these_o word_n death_n be_v so_o great_a a_o enemy_n to_o you_o that_o you_o can_v choose_v it_o i_o answer_v that_o be_v because_o your_o reason_n be_v not_o illuminate_v and_o elevate_v by_o faith_n to_o see_v the_o necessity_n of_o choose_v it_o and_o to_o see_v those_o high_a and_o better_a thing_n which_o by_o this_o mean_v you_o may_v obtain_v have_v you_o that_o heavenly_a life_n of_o faith_n and_o love_n which_o the_o spirit_n work_v in_o the_o saint_n it_o will_v carry_v you_o above_o this_o present_a life_n and_o take_v you_o up_o with_o high_a matter_n and_o show_v you_o that_o and_o so_o show_v it_o you_o as_o shall_v procure_v your_o own_o consent_n to_o die_v but_o because_o this_o be_v the_o great_a point_n that_o christ_n do_v purposely_o here_o try_v our_o self-denial_n by_o and_o a_o point_n of_o such_o great_a necessity_n to_o be_v look_v after_o i_o shall_v stay_v a_o little_a long_o on_o it_o while_o i_o give_v you_o first_o some_o reason_n to_o move_v you_o and_o 2._o some_o direction_n to_o assist_v you_o to_o get_v a_o self-denying_a submission_n to_o death_n when_o christ_n require_v it_o the_o many_o lamentable_a defect_n in_o grace_n which_o the_o inordinate_a fear_n of_o in_o the_o body_n &_o it_o be_v so_o communicate_v to_o the_o soul_n thus_o sin_n come_v in_o at_o the_o backdoor_n even_o at_o the_o wrong_a end_n and_o by_o the_o base_a part_n but_o grace_n come_v in_o the_o right_a way_n by_o the_o noble_a part_n sin_n have_v its_o root_n in_o the_o vile_a part_n but_o christ_n have_v his_o seat_n first_o in_o the_o better_a part_n and_o yet_o i_o must_v add_v 1._o that_o sin_n be_v not_o ripe_a till_o it_o reach_v the_o will_n though_o it_o enter_v by_o the_o flesh_n and_o sense_n it_o be_v not_o form_v nor_o to_o be_v call_v sin_n till_o it_o reach_v the_o best_a be_v the_o worst_a yet_o it_o be_v not_o first_o there_o but_o holiness_n be_v first_o also_o in_o the_o soul_n and_o so_o communicate_v to_o the_o body_n and_o so_o also_o glory_n itself_o will_v be_v and_o therefore_o take_v notice_n of_o the_o wise_a and_o gracious_a providence_n of_o god_n that_o take_v the_o soul_n to_o heaven_n beforehand_o that_o it_o may_v be_v first_o glorify_v and_o so_o may_v be_v fit_a to_o communicate_v glory_n to_o the_o body_n and_o so_o as_o the_o natural_a soul_n dignify_v the_o natural_a body_n and_o the_o sanctify_a soul_n do_v sanctify_v the_o body_n so_o the_o glorify_a soul_n by_o reunion_n with_o the_o body_n shall_v communicate_v its_o nature_n to_o the_o body_n at_o the_o resurrection_n and_o so_o it_o will_v be_v make_v spiritual_a immortal_a and_o incorruptible_a by_o the_o soul_n and_o soul_n and_o body_n be_v make_v such_o by_o christ_n so_o that_o by_o this_o time_n you_o may_v see_v that_o there_o be_v more_o reason_n for_o the_o resurrection_n for_o all_o the_o body_n be_v turn_v to_o earth_n than_o there_o be_v reason_n that_o a_o candle_n that_o be_v go_v out_o shall_v be_v light_v again_o by_o another_o or_o than_o there_o be_v reason_n that_o i_o shall_v put_v on_o my_o clothes_n in_o the_o morning_n which_o i_o put_v off_o at_o night_n it_o be_v true_a those_o clothes_n have_v no_o power_n to_o put_v on_o themselves_o nor_o be_v there_o any_o natural_a necessitate_v cause_n of_o it_o but_o yet_o there_o be_v a_o free_a cause_n in_o i_o that_o will_v infallible_o if_o i_o live_v from_o dishonourable_a into_o glorious_a and_o now_o i_o hope_v you_o see_v that_o you_o may_v put_v off_o these_o clothes_n with_o patience_n and_o submission_n and_o that_o it_o be_v no_o wrong_n to_o the_o flesh_n itself_o to_o be_v put_v off_o but_o tend_v to_o its_o high_a advancement_n at_o the_o last_o though_o the_o first_o cause_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o nest_n of_o sin_n shall_v be_v so_o break_v first_o that_o it_o shall_v first_o be_v see_v what_o sin_n have_v do_v before_o it_o be_v see_v what_o grace_n will_v do_v and_o the_o fruit_n of_o our_o own_o way_n must_v first_o be_v taste_v before_o we_o shall_v full_o feed_v and_o live_v upon_o the_o bless_a fruit_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n 11._o moreover_o as_o there_o be_v a_o resurrection_n for_o the_o body_n itself_o and_o that_o to_o a_o more_o perfect_a estate_n than_o it_o can_v here_o attain_v so_o the_o whole_a nature_n shall_v be_v perfect_v beyond_o our_o present_a comprehension_n this_o life_n be_v not_o intend_v to_o be_v the_o place_n of_o our_o perfection_n but_o the_o preparation_n for_o it_o as_o the_o fruit_n be_v far_o from_o ripeness_n in_o the_o first_o appearance_n or_o the_o flower_n nature_n of_o man_n on_o earth_n as_o the_o infant_n be_v not_o perfect_a in_o the_o womb_n nor_o the_o chicken_n in_o the_o shell_n no_o more_o be_v our_o nature_n perfect_a in_o this_o world_n methinks_v for_o the_o sake_n of_o the_o body_n itself_o much_o more_o of_o the_o soul_n if_o we_o be_v believer_n we_o shall_v submit_v content_o to_o death_n while_o you_o be_v here_o you_o know_v that_o creature_n will_v fail_v you_o enemy_n will_v hate_v you_o friend_n will_v grieve_v you_o neighbour_n will_v wrong_v you_o satan_n will_v tempt_v you_o and_o molest_v you_o the_o world_n be_v changeable_a and_o will_v deceive_v you_o all_o your_o comfort_n be_v mix_v with_o discomfort_n the_o body_n carry_v about_o with_o it_o calamity_n enough_o of_o its_o own_o to_o weary_v it_o what_o daily_a pain_n must_v it_o be_v at_o for_o the_o sustentation_n of_o its_o self_n in_o its_o present_a state_n and_o yet_o what_o grief_n and_o sorrow_n must_v it_o undergo_v every_o member_n have_v either_o its_o disease_n or_o a_o disposition_n thereto_o what_o abundance_n of_o passage_n can_v pain_n and_o sickness_n find_v to_o enter_v at_o and_o how_o many_o room_n that_o be_v ready_a to_o receive_v they_o as_o every_o member_n have_v its_o use_n so_o every_o one_o be_v capable_a of_o sorrow_n and_o the_o sorrow_n of_o one_o be_v at_o least_o as_o much_o communicate_v to_o the_o whole_a as_o the_o usefulness_n be_v the_o pain_n of_o the_o simple_a member_n even_o of_o a_o tooth_n can_v make_v the_o whole_a body_n a_o weary_a of_o itself_o what_o be_v the_o daily_a condition_n of_o our_o flesh_n but_o weakness_n and_o suffering_n with_o care_n and_o labour_n to_o prevent_v much_o worse_a which_o yet_o we_o know_v can_v long_o be_v avoid_v the_o sorrow_n of_o many_o a_o man_n willing_a to_o come_v to_o he_o and_o to_o submit_v to_o death_n direct_v 8._o live_v also_o in_o the_o daily_a exercise_n of_o holy_a joy_n and_o praise_n to_o god_n which_o be_v the_o heavenly_a
