these_o thing_n and_o earnest_o think_v upon_o they_o so_o this_o psalm_n be_v a_o prayer_n against_o the_o mighty_a rich_a and_o wealthy_a of_o the_o world_n which_o either_o cruel_o molest_v and_o vex_v or_o proud_o deride_v and_o contemn_v the_o godly_a as_o the_o last_o verse_n do_v declare_v and_o these_o be_v not_o only_o such_o as_o prefer_v wicked_a doctrine_n superstition_n &_o idolatry_n before_o the_o undefiled_a word_n of_o god_n but_o even_o such_o also_o as_o glory_v in_o the_o word_n and_o sound_a doctrine_n and_o will_v be_v count_v lover_n &_o favourer_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o partaker_n with_o we_o of_o the_o name_n and_o glory_n of_o christ_n of_o such_o there_o be_v a_o great_a number_n amongst_o the_o people_n of_o israel_n for_o they_o have_v the_o law_n sacrifice_n and_o ceremony_n institute_v by_o moses_n according_a to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n they_o have_v great_a plenty_n of_o prophet_n and_o godly_a teacher_n yet_o how_o they_o use_v they_o the_o story_n do_v declare_v when_o elisha_n send_v the_o son_n of_o a_o prophet_n unto_o jehu_n 9_o the_o other_o say_v wherefore_o come_v this_o mad_a fellow_n unto_o thou_o the_o psalm_n also_o &_o preach_n of_o the_o prophet_n concern_v faith_n and_o true_a righteousness_n before_o god_n do_v show_v that_o they_o be_v contemn_v and_o deride_v of_o the_o multitude_n yea_o &_o condemn_v as_o this_o day_n 6._o which_o be_v uncover_v in_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o maiden_n of_o his_o servant_n as_o a_o fool_n uncover_v himself_o now_o we_o can_v not_o think_v that_o only_a michol_n do_v thus_o slanderous_o speak_v of_o that_o king_n do_n but_o there_o be_v no_o doubt_n other_o also_o in_o the_o court_n man_n both_o of_o wisdom_n &_o dignity_n which_o judge_v the_o same_o for_o what_o so_o pray_v with_o david_n against_o all_o such_o that_o be_v first_o against_o the_o pope_n &_o his_o whole_a kingdom_n of_o face_n for_o they_o do_v not_o only_o proud_o contemn_v we_o but_o also_o condemn_v we_o then_o also_o against_o false_a brethren_n such_o as_o in_o our_o church_n live_v in_o all_o carnal_a &_o godless_a security_n and_o albeit_o they_o will_v seem_v to_o be_v no_o enemy_n but_o friend_n unto_o the_o gospel_n yet_o either_o deride_v or_o molest_v the_o true_a professor_n thereof_o against_o all_o such_o this_o psalm_n be_v unitten_v for_o the_o trouble_a &_o afflict_a child_n of_o god_n which_o be_v count_v of_o the_o world_n either_o heretical_a or_o seditious_a or_o else_o fool_n and_o abject_n but_o this_o consolation_n they_o have_v that_o see_v the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o this_o psalm_n do_v teach_v they_o how_o to_o pray_v in_o these_o distress_n they_o shall_v be_v hear_v and_o though_o they_o be_v here_o contemn_v and_o count_v the_o outsweping_n of_o the_o earth_n they_o shall_v be_v make_v glorious_a in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god._n verse_n 1._o i_o lift_v up_o my_o eye_n unto_o thou_o which_o dwell_v in_o the_o heaven_n this_o be_v a_o vehement_a groan_v of_o a_o trouble_a mind_n comfort_n look_v about_o and_o seek_v every_o way_n for_o comfort_n and_o succour_n but_o none_o can_v be_v find_v whether_o then_o shall_v i_o miserable_a maâ—â—stie_n say_v he_o in_o this_o distress_n strength_n to_o with_o stand_v my_o enemy_n i_o have_v none_o of_o wisdom_n and_o counsel_n be_v compass_v with_o such_o a_o multitude_n of_o adversary_n from_o thence_o more_o manifest_o show_v the_o majesty_n of_o his_o divinity_n and_o what_o so_o ever_o he_o have_v at_o any_o time_n do_v upon_o the_o earth_n by_o revelation_n vision_n or_o oracle_n he_o seem_v to_o do_v it_o from_o heaven_n from_o whence_o also_o have_v come_v the_o most_o notable_a and_o severe_a punishment_n of_o the_o wicked_a as_o of_o the_o first_o world_n by_o the_o flood_n of_o the_o sodomite_n by_o the_o rain_v down_o of_o fire_n with_o brimstone_n of_o the_o egyptian_n by_o haâ—se_n mix_v with_o fire_n of_o the_o amorrâ—ans_n by_o the_o rain_v of_o stone_n from_o heaven_n 116._o and_o hereof_o come_v these_o say_n he_o that_o dwell_v in_o the_o heaven_n shall_v laugh_v they_o to_o scorn_v the_o lord_n look_v down_o from_o heaven_n the_o lord_n have_v prepare_v his_o seat_n in_o heaven_n our_o god_n be_v in_o heaven_n and_o do_v what_o soever_o he_o will._n 6._o which_o dwell_v in_o the_o light_n that_o none_o can_v attain_v unto_o therefore_o we_o read_v that_o christ_n common_o when_o he_o pray_v 9_o or_o when_o he_o give_v thanks_n to_o his_o father_n look_v up_o to_o heaven_n and_o when_o he_o depart_v hence_o unto_o his_o father_n he_o be_v corruptible_a but_o the_o lord_n and_o inhabior_n of_o heaven_n as_o a_o place_n without_o all_o corruption_n and_o therefore_o a_o most_o meet_a habitation_n for_o he_o almighty_a and_o rule_v over_o all_o everlasting_a incorruptible_a see_v all_o thing_n pierce_v all_o thing_n the_o prophet_n also_o call_v god_n here_o the_o inhabior_n of_o heaven_n to_o signify_v that_o the_o earth_n be_v full_a of_o the_o proud_a and_o scornful_a and_o that_o the_o godly_a be_v tread_v under_o foot_n of_o those_o that_o dwell_v upon_o the_o earth_n and_o be_v count_v the_o ouâ—swepings_n of_o the_o world_n and_o therefore_o he_o see_v none_o beside_o the_o lord_n and_o inhabior_n of_o heaven_n of_o who_o he_o may_v look_v for_o help_n and_o succour_v the_o great_a danger_n whereof_o the_o prophet_n complain_v be_v herein_o express_v in_o that_o he_o look_v about_o on_o every_o side_n and_o seek_v for_o succour_n can_v find_v none_o to_o help_v he_o but_o only_o the_o inhabior_n of_o heaven_n these_o thing_n make_v the_o tentation_n much_o more_o grievous_a and_o terrible_a and_o therefore_o he_o pray_v with_o such_o word_n in_o his_o tentation_n as_o perhaps_o he_o at_o that_o time_n do_v not_o perfect_o understand_v as_o saint_n paul_n also_o say_v we_o understand_v not_o what_o we_o pray_v the_o spirit_n know_v and_o understand_v what_o these_o word_n mean_v but_o man_n can_v not_o conceive_v the_o power_n thereof_o in_o the_o time_n of_o his_o tentation_n while_o faith_n be_v infirm_a and_o be_v yet_o in_o the_o conflict_n but_o when_o our_o petition_n be_v grant_v &_o prayer_n hear_v than_o faith_n have_v her_o force_n and_o we_o have_v more_o perfect_a understanding_n both_o of_o the_o tentation_n and_o also_o of_o the_o prayer_n which_o we_o therein_o use_v the_o prophet_n therefore_o in_o this_o verse_n set_v the_o inhabior_n of_o heaven_n against_o the_o inhabitor_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o conceive_v comfort_n and_o courage_n that_o albeit_o the_o world_n be_v great_a and_o mighty_a yet_o god_n be_v more_o mighty_a this_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o the_o prophet_n in_o this_o verse_n and_o albeit_o the_o word_n be_v but_o simple_a as_o you_o see_v yet_o be_v they_o full_a of_o consolation_n to_o he_o that_o believe_v the_o spirit_n which_o minister_v these_o word_n and_o stir_v up_o these_o groan_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o afflict_a know_v with_o what_o majesty_n and_o power_n they_o
become_v as_o it_o be_v invisible_a and_o by_o faith_n in_o poverty_n to_o behold_v riches_n in_o heaviness_n and_o sorrow_n joy_n and_o comfort_n in_o desolation_n and_o destruction_n help_v and_o succour_n and_o when_o we_o seem_v to_o be_v cut_v of_o and_o to_o be_v cast_v away_o from_o god_n even_o then_o to_o believe_v and_o by_o faith_n to_o lay_v sure_a handfast_a on_o god_n eternal_a mercy_n and_o grace_n in_o christ_n as_o david_n here_o do_v who_o be_v afflict_v and_o feel_v no_o comfort_n and_o yet_o he_o say_v i_o lift_v up_o my_o eye_n to_o the_o hill_n from_o whence_o come_v my_o help_n thou_o must_v lift_v up_o thine_o eye_n therefore_o and_o in_o no_o wise_n fix_v they_o upon_o the_o present_a trouble_n calamity_n or_o affliction_n whatsoever_o the_o flesh_n see_v feel_v or_o suffer_v for_o that_o be_v to_o obey_v and_o consent_v to_o the_o eye_n and_o the_o ear_n that_o be_v to_o say_v to_o harken_v to_o the_o flesh_n which_o be_v always_o ready_a to_o therefore_o thou_o must_v lift_v up_o thine_o eye_n to_o the_o hill_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o harken_v to_o the_o voice_n of_o god_n who_o say_v and_o promise_v that_o help_n shall_v sure_o come_v from_o those_o hill_n which_o albeit_o for_o the_o time_n it_o be_v invisible_a and_o can_v neither_o be_v see_v nor_o feel_v yet_o be_v it_o most_o certain_a and_o infallble_a they_o that_o be_v in_o wealth_n glory_n and_o dignity_n lift_v not_o up_o their_o eye_n to_o these_o invisible_a thing_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v puff_v up_o with_o pride_n and_o carry_v away_o with_o all_o noisome_a lust_n but_o such_o as_o be_v in_o poverty_n contempt_n of_o the_o world_n afflict_v in_o body_n or_o mind_n be_v force_v to_o lift_v up_o their_o eye_n that_o the_o help_n which_o be_v invisible_a may_v be_v make_v to_o they_o visible_a by_o faith_n according_a to_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n make_v unto_o they_o in_o his_o word_n these_o be_v the_o word_n therefore_o of_o a_o man_n that_o feel_v the_o same_o that_o we_o feel_v that_o be_v to_o say_v our_o heart_n to_o be_v oppress_v with_o sorrow_n and_o heaviness_n when_o we_o think_v ourselves_o to_o be_v desolate_a and_o forsake_a can_v see_v no_o succour_n when_o we_o see_v not_o riches_n but_o poverty_n not_o glory_n but_o ignominy_n shame_n and_o confusion_n in_o these_o calamity_n the_o heart_n be_v a_o heavy_a burden_n weigh_v down_o to_o the_o ground_n the_o eye_n and_o the_o head_n that_o they_o can_v see_v or_o think_v upon_o nothing_o else_o but_o terrene_a and_o earthly_a thing_n therefore_o he_o exhort_v we_o by_o his_o own_o example_n to_o lift_v up_o our_o eye_n and_o look_v to_o invisible_a thing_n which_o the_o word_n promise_v we_o shall_v certain_o enjoy_v thus_o we_o see_v the_o nature_n of_o faith_n lively_o set_v out_o in_o this_o psalm_n now_o follow_v as_o it_o be_v a_o explication_n what_o hill_n he_o speak_v of_o verse_n 2._o my_o help_n come_v of_o the_o lord_n which_o have_v make_v heaven_n and_o earth_n he_o speak_v here_o of_o such_o hill_n as_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o flesh_n can_v not_o see_v for_o who_o be_v so_o quick_a of_o sight_n to_o see_v or_o so_o wise_a to_o perceive_v and_o understand_v that_o the_o hill_n moria_n be_v a_o holy_a hill_n a_o heap_n of_o earth_n the_o bodily_a eye_n may_v see_v but_o the_o holiness_n the_o power_n and_o the_o majesty_n of_o god_n there_o present_a they_o can_v not_o see_v nor_o that_o the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v there_o that_o the_o lord_n have_v promise_v there_o to_o dwell_v and_o abide_v that_o he_o have_v put_v a_o memorial_n of_o his_o name_n in_o that_o place_n and_o that_o there_o he_o will_v be_v seek_v there_o he_o will_v be_v find_v for_o he_o that_o seek_v not_o god_n in_o this_o place_n can_v not_o find_v he_o in_o heaven_n like_a as_o since_o god_n have_v reveil_v himself_o in_o that_o man_n christ_n we_o true_o say_v and_o also_o believe_v that_o whosoever_o do_v not_o embrace_v and_o by_o faith_n lie_v hold_v on_o this_o man_n which_o be_v bear_v of_o the_o virgin_n they_o can_v never_o believe_v in_o god_n but_o although_o they_o say_v they_o believe_v in_o the_o maker_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n yet_o do_v they_o in_o deed_n believe_v in_o the_o idol_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n for_o without_o christ_n there_o be_v no_o true_a god_n therefore_o david_n behold_v these_o hill_n in_o jerusalem_n not_o with_o bodily_a eye_n as_o the_o ox_n do_v his_o stall_n but_o with_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o spirit_n he_o see_v that_o god_n dwell_v there_o by_o his_o word_n therefore_o these_o hill_n be_v now_o no_o more_o earth_n and_o mould_n but_o they_o be_v the_o hill_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o the_o fullness_n of_o his_o godhead_n so_o that_o with_o out_o these_o hill_n concern_v god_n there_o can_v nothing_o be_v find_v therefore_o it_o be_v true_o say_v of_o the_o prophet_n that_o from_o these_o hill_n come_v help_v and_o succour_n that_o be_v to_o say_v from_o god_n dwell_v and_o abide_v there_o by_o his_o word_n like_a as_o we_o believe_v that_o christ_n be_v the_o throne_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o which_o be_v the_o treasure_n of_o all_o good_a thing_n and_o heavenly_a blessing_n to_o be_v find_v and_o without_o the_o which_o there_o be_v nothing_o now_o in_o that_o he_o do_v not_o only_o say_v my_o help_n come_v from_o the_o lord_n but_o add_v moreover_o which_o make_v heaven_n &_o earth_n he_o reprove_v &_o condemn_v all_o other_o help_n which_o man_n seek_v &_o procure_v unto_o themselves_o beside_o god_n with_o false_a trust_n &_o affiance_n in_o the_o same_o as_o idol_n of_o their_o own_o imagination_n so_o be_v mammon_n a_o god_n also_o that_o be_v to_o say_v be_v worship_v of_o man_n as_o a_o god_n &_o help_v they_o also_o sometime_o but_o in_o penury_n of_o food_n &_o victual_n what_o succour_n can_v he_o bring_v no_o man_n can_v satisfy_v his_o hungry_a belly_n with_o gold_n and_o silver_n likewise_o in_o drought_n and_o barrenness_n of_o the_o earth_n what_o can_v he_o help_v what_o good_a can_v he_o do_v in_o disease_n &_o infirmity_n of_o the_o body_n if_o then_o in_o these_o corporal_a malady_n he_o can_v not_o help_v what_o can_v he_o do_v when_o the_o conscience_n be_v trouble_v with_o sin_n &_o the_o horror_n of_o death_n it_o be_v therefore_o but_o a_o false_a pleasure_n and_o delight_n that_o mammon_n bring_v which_o be_v but_o only_o to_o satisfy_v &_o please_v the_o eye_n as_o a_o picture_n or_o paint_a table_n against_o these_o help_n therefore_o &_o such_o like_a which_o the_o world_n seek_v after_o the_o prophet_n set_v the_o lord_n himself_o who_o make_v not_o only_a gold_n &_o silver_n not_o only_a food_n &_o sustenance_n heaven_n and_o earth_n that_o be_v to_o say_v angel_n man_n and_o the_o whole_a world_n but_o beside_o these_o give_v remission_n of_o sin_n faith_n righteousness_n joy_n &_o peace_n of_o heart_n with_o everlasting_a life_n he_o be_v say_v the_o prophet_n my_o almighty_a and_o sure_a help_n of_o who_o i_o can_v not_o doubt_v that_o he_o will_v ever_o fail_v i_o the_o twinkle_n of_o a_o eye_n to_o this_o lord_n i_o fly_v for_o aid_n &_o succour_n who_o not_o only_o in_o this_o life_n can_v and_o do_v give_v health_n &_o welfare_n for_o a_o few_o year_n with_o security_n of_o conscience_n &_o contempt_n of_o death_n &_o all_o the_o fury_n of_o the_o world_n but_o also_o after_o this_o life_n eternal_a felicity_n &_o life_n everlasting_a thus_o the_o prophet_n inflame_v himself_o &_o stir_v up_o his_o faith_n for_o our_o example_n that_o we_o likewise_o shall_v magnify_v the_o blessing_n &_o good_a gift_n of_o god_n in_o we_o &_o also_o our_o hope_n &_o trust_v in_o he_o for_o if_o the_o rich_fw-fr man_n of_o the_o world_n do_v glory_n in_o their_o money_n if_o they_o vaunt_v of_o their_o wealth_n and_o riches_n why_o shall_v not_o we_o also_o glory_v in_o the_o trust_n &_o confidence_n we_o have_v in_o god_n which_o have_v make_v heaven_n and_o earth_n which_o have_v also_o in_o his_o hand_n all_o thing_n necessary_a both_o for_o this_o life_n &_o for_o the_o life_n to_o come_v but_o because_o these_o thing_n be_v invisible_a &_o can_v not_o be_v see_v but_o with_o spiritual_a eye_n therefore_o we_o common_o neglect_v they_o and_o albeit_o the_o lord_n do_v sometime_o hide_v these_o help_n from_o we_o &_o let_v we_o feel_v the_o lack_n thereof_o for_o a_o time_n as_o he_o do_v in_o deed_n to_o make_v we_o the_o more_o desirous_a of_o they_o
be_v speak_v verse_n 2._o behold_v as_o the_o eye_n of_o servant_n look_v unto_o the_o hand_n of_o their_o master_n and_o as_o the_o eye_n of_o a_o maiden_n unto_o the_o hand_n of_o her_o mistress_n so_o our_o eye_n wait_v upon_o the_o lord_n our_o god_n until_o he_o have_v mercy_n upon_o us._n here_o the_o prophet_n set_v forth_o by_o similitude_n the_o nature_n of_o true_a piety_n as_o if_o he_o say_v great_a be_v our_o affliction_n and_o yet_o the_o lord_n prolong_v his_o help_n neither_o ease_v our_o misery_n nor_o revenge_v our_o wrong_n he_o suffer_v the_o cruel_a the_o proud_a and_o the_o scornful_a to_o treaâ—_n we_o under_o foot_n and_o to_o prosper_v in_o our_o sight_n this_o delay_n be_v tedious_a &_o grevous_a unto_o we_o notwithstanding_o we_o will_v not_o murmur_v or_o become_v unpatient_a in_o these_o our_o affliction_n but_o as_o good_a servant_n in_o their_o distress_n look_v to_o the_o hand_n that_o be_v for_o help_v and_o succour_v at_o the_o hand_n of_o their_o master_n &_o mistress_n so_o will_v we_o attend_v upon_o y_fw-es lord_n our_o god_n until_o he_o have_v pity_n upon_o us._n tentation_n thus_o we_o see_v that_o the_o lord_n sometime_o defer_v his_o help_n neither_o show_v how_o nor_o when_o he_o will_v help_v but_o leave_v his_o saint_n in_o such_o perplexity_n as_o though_o he_o have_v no_o regard_n either_o of_o the_o time_n or_o of_o the_o manner_n of_o their_o deliverance_n so_o that_o they_o seem_v to_o hang_v as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o mid_n between_o heaven_n and_o earth_n these_o thing_n be_v grevous_a and_o exceed_o increase_v the_o tentation_n therefore_o we_o must_v lay_v sure_a hold_n on_o this_o consolation_n which_o the_o prophet_n here_o set_v forth_o that_o our_o tentation_n shall_v have_v a_o end_n but_o not_o as_o we_o will_v lest_o we_o seem_v to_o appoint_v the_o time_n and_o manner_n of_o our_o deliverance_n which_o the_o lord_n reserve_v to_o himself_o alone_o and_o here_o be_v a_o example_n set_v forth_o unto_o we_o faithful_a patient_o to_o wait_v upon_o the_o lord_n in_o the_o time_n of_o trouble_n to_o be_v instant_a in_o prayer_n and_o never_o to_o let_v our_o hand_n fall_v or_o turn_v our_o eye_n from_o the_o lord_n but_o constant_o to_o persevere_v in_o sure_a hope_n &_o expectation_n of_o his_o gracious_a deliverance_n and_o of_o his_o help_a hand_n to_o be_v present_a with_o we_o in_o our_o necessity_n whereof_o our_o saviour_n christ_n also_o warn_v we_o in_o the_o gospel_n of_o the_o woman_n and_o the_o unrighteous_a judge_n who_o although_o he_o neither_o fear_v god_n nor_o man_n yet_o because_o this_o woman_n never_o cease_v to_o call_v upon_o he_o he_o be_v compel_v to_o hear_v her_o cause_n for_o if_o the_o worst_a man_n be_v not_o yet_o so_o wicked_a but_o he_o may_v be_v overcome_v with_o instant_n and_o continual_a prayer_n what_o shall_v we_o not_o hope_v to_o obtain_v at_o god_n hand_n which_o willing_o offer_v himself_o to_o hear_v our_o those_o people_n which_o the_o jew_n know_v to_o be_v most_o cruel_a and_o barbarous_a mean_v that_o if_o he_o dwell_v in_o mesech_n &_o kedar_n he_o can_v not_o be_v amongst_o more_o cruel_a enemy_n cruel_a people_n verse_n 6._o my_o soul_n have_v too_o long_o dwell_v with_o he_o that_o hate_v peace_n here_o he_o show_v plain_o who_o he_o mean_v by_o meâ—ech_n &_o kedar_n church_n to_o wit_n come_v by_o the_o multitude_n and_o grievousness_n of_o tentation_n those_o he_o go_v about_o to_o weary_a with_o tediousness_n &_o long_a continuance_n thereof_o wherefore_o many_o be_v unskilful_a of_o this_o spiritual_a warfare_n fight_v valiant_o at_o the_o beginning_n but_o in_o the_o end_n they_o faint_v and_o cowardly_a give_v over_o this_o danger_n david_n do_v foresee_v &_o complain_v when_o one_o messenger_n follow_v a_o other_o and_o one_o calamity_n likewise_o come_v upon_o a_o other_o than_o his_o mind_n by_o little_a and_o little_o begin_v to_o be_v trouble_v and_o this_o be_v the_o malignity_n and_o malice_n of_o satan_n wherefore_o let_v we_o cast_v away_o all_o hope_n of_o peace_n so_o long_o as_o we_o live_v here_o and_o let_v we_o assure_v ourselves_o that_o if_o this_o day_n we_o overcome_v one_o kind_n of_o tentation_n to_o morrow_n satan_n will_v set_v upon_o we_o again_o with_o a_o other_o and_o here_o behold_v the_o craft_n and_o subtlety_n of_o the_o world_n the_o holy_a ghost_n call_v they_o heretic_n which_o be_v hater_n of_o peace_n and_o concord_n and_o this_o name_n they_o spiteful_o apply_v unto_o we_o thou_o say_v they_o be_v he_o that_o also_o suffer_v and_o so_o content_v ourselves_o with_o the_o testimony_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n which_o shall_v clear_v we_o before_o god_n that_o we_o seek_v the_o peace_n of_o the_o church_n whereunto_o they_o be_v utter_a enemy_n as_o follow_v verse_n 7._o i_o seek_v peace_n &_o when_o i_o speak_v thereof_o they_o be_v bend_v to_o war_n this_o be_v the_o testimony_n of_o my_o conscience_n that_o i_o love_v pear_n and_o seek_v after_o it_o whereof_o then_o come_v all_o this_o trouble_n all_o this_o deadly_a war_n of_o i_o i_o grant_v but_o not_o by_o my_o default_n for_o if_o i_o will_v suffer_v these_o disturber_n and_o hater_n of_o all_o godly_a peace_n and_o concord_n to_o say_v and_o to_o do_v what_o they_o listen_v than_o will_v they_o not_o so_o rage_n than_o will_v they_o not_o seek_v my_o hurt_n as_o they_o do_v than_o will_v they_o live_v in_o peace_n but_o how_o can_v we_o hide_v those_o thing_n that_o we_o have_v see_v that_o we_o have_v hear_v &_o that_o we_o be_v command_v to_o speak_v and_o declare_v not_o in_o our_o chamber_n but_o on_o the_o house_n top_n for_o christ_n say_v god_n and_o preach_v the_o gospel_n to_o all_o creature_n and_o again_o no_o man_n hide_v a_o light_n under_o a_o bushel_n this_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o the_o word_n be_v in_o our_o mouth_n as_o a_o burn_a coal_n which_o can_v not_o be_v keep_v in_o but_o compel_v we_o to_o open_v our_o mouth_n hereof_o then_o come_v all_o these_o trouble_n because_o they_o take_v away_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n &_o yet_o will_v have_v we_o to_o hold_v our_o peace_n and_o here_o we_o see_v it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o christ_n say_v in_o the_o gospel_n 11._o when_o a_o strong_a man_n keep_v the_o house_n all_o thing_n be_v in_o peace_n but_o when_o a_o strong_a than_o he_o come_v then_o trouble_v arise_v this_o be_v then_o our_o consolation_n that_o what_o trouble_v soever_o do_v arise_v we_o rest_v upon_o the_o testimony_n of_o our_o own_o but_o mere_a nothing_o therefore_o let_v we_o lift_v up_o our_o mind_n to_o these_o heavenly_a riches_n and_o let_v we_o learn_v right_o to_o discern_v between_o the_o cross_n in_o respect_n of_o itself_o that_o be_v of_o the_o flesh_n and_o the_o sense_n of_o our_o own_o heart_n and_o in_o respect_n of_o god_n and_o his_o rich_a promise_n which_o if_o we_o consider_v as_o it_o be_v in_o behold_v the_o same_o in_o respect_n of_o god_n with_o the_o eye_n of_o faith_n though_o our_o affliction_n and_o calamity_n seem_v never_o so_o great_a and_o grievous_a yet_o the_o supper_n even_o in_o our_o destruction_n as_o to_o we_o it_o seem_v god_n be_v present_a with_o we_o and_o in_o our_o death_n christ_n our_o king_n live_v in_o who_o sight_n our_o tribulation_n and_o affliction_n yea_o and_o death_n itself_o be_v altogether_o as_o you_o will_v say_v but_o one_o nothing_o and_o if_o we_o compare_v they_o unto_o god_n by_o the_o judgement_n of_o faith_n we_o shall_v feel_v they_o so_o to_o be_v in_o deed_n but_o who_o have_v sufficient_o learn_v thus_o to_o do_v somewhat_o we_o may_v say_v christian_n and_o teach_v other_o after_o a_o sort_n but_o use_v and_o experience_n with_o inward_a practice_n and_o feel_v be_v that_o which_o make_v a_o right_a divine_a and_o a_o true_a christian_a in_o deed_n so_o that_o he_o may_v be_v able_a bold_o to_o affirm_v and_o say_v with_o david_n he_o will_v not_o suffer_v thy_o foot_n to_o styppe_v that_o be_v to_o say_v he_o will_v not_o suffer_v thou_o to_o be_v utter_o overthrow_v and_o perish_v but_o the_o flesh_n say_v the_o contrary_a because_o it_o feel_v not_o only_o thy_o foot_n to_o slip_v but_o itself_o also_o to_o be_v tread_v under_o foot_n behold_v the_o son_n of_o god_n what_o he_o suffer_v behold_v john_n baptist_n the_o virgin_n mary_n the_o apostle_n the_o prophet_n what_o they_o suffer_v behold_v the_o church_n at_o this_o day_n what_o danger_n it_o be_v in_o what_o trouble_v and_o affliction_n it_o continual_o suffer_v and_o this_o be_v the_o state_n of_o the_o godly_a upon_o the_o experience_n whereof_o arise_v this_o proverb_n the_o more_o wicked_a the_o more_o happy_a and_o therefore_o the_o world_n fear_v and_o shun_v these_o danger_n can_v never_o abide_v the_o gospel_n and_o thus_o it_o appear_v to_o they_o not_o to_o be_v true_a that_o david_n say_v here_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o suffer_v thy_o foot_n to_o slip_v but_o rather_o the_o contrary_a that_o he_o cause_v thy_o foot_n to_o slip_v albeit_o it_o do_v but_o seem_v so_o for_o he_o do_v not_o so_o in_o deed_n and_o that_o to_o the_o flesh_n only_o but_o contrariwise_o to_o the_o spirit_n and_o faith_n it_o be_v exaltation_n and_o glory_n before_o god_n they_o judge_v that_o death_n which_o be_v suffer_v for_o the_o confession_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o be_v a_o beginning_n of_o a_o better_a and_o eternal_a life_n ignominy_n shame_n and_o contempt_n of_o the_o world_n they_o count_v inestimable_a glory_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o god._n faith_n this_o be_v the_o judgement_n of_o faith_n albeit_o the_o flesh_n think_v otherwise_o but_o we_o may_v not_o judge_v after_o the_o flesh_n for_o if_o we_o do_v what_o need_v then_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o word_n what_o need_v exhortation_n what_o need_v the_o promise_n therefore_o we_o must_v turn_v the_o evil_a into_o good_a and_o where_o the_o flesh_n conclude_v that_o it_o be_v continual_o tread_v under_o foot_n there_o faith_n must_v confess_v and_o say_v that_o by_o the_o cross_n and_o by_o these_o affliction_n we_o be_v be_v see_v and_o feel_v but_o such_o as_o will_v not_o believe_v but_o follow_v their_o own_o sense_n and_o feel_v do_v rather_o choose_v the_o glory_n &_o pleasure_n of_o this_o world_n which_o so_o little_a while_n endure_v and_o so_o sudden_o vanish_v away_o but_o how_o miserable_a shall_v their_o condition_n be_v when_o after_o these_o transitory_a momentane_z and_o vain_a pleasure_n they_o shall_v find_v and_o feel_v nothing_o but_o anguish_n &_o torment_n with_o weep_v &_o wail_v for_o ever_o &_o without_o end_n how_o much_o better_o have_v it_o be_v for_o they_o to_o have_v suffer_v experience_n take_v this_o for_o a_o principle_n that_o the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o devil_n be_v the_o kingdom_n of_o sin_n and_o of_o death_n that_o we_o be_v continual_o and_o every_o moment_n preserve_v from_o death_n and_o other_o danger_n both_o corporal_o and_o spiritual_o by_o the_o singular_a goodness_n and_o grace_n of_o christ_n into_o who_o kingdom_n through_o baptism_n and_o faith_n we_o be_v translate_v and_o hereof_o come_v these_o heavenly_a say_n of_o the_o prophet_n the_o earth_n be_v full_a of_o the_o mercy_n of_o the_o lord_n his_o mercy_n endure_v for_o ever_o etc_n etc_n in_o deed_n sometime_o satan_n so_o prevail_v and_o have_v such_o success_n in_o that_o he_o go_v about_o that_o by_o sudden_a plague_n he_o bring_v man_n to_o horrible_a destruction_n such_o example_n ought_v to_o warn_v we_o of_o those_o mischievous_a practice_n which_o he_o continual_o go_v about_o and_o fain_o will_v bring_v to_o pass_v as_o he_o may_v easy_o do_v if_o he_o be_v not_o let_v by_o the_o vigilancy_n of_o our_o good_a watchman_n in_o heaven_n for_o as_o for_o the_o power_n of_o this_o our_o adversary_n i_o do_v believe_v that_o he_o be_v able_a in_o one_o hour_n to_o destroy_v all_o the_o people_n that_o be_v live_v upon_o the_o earth_n now_o if_o both_o he_o be_v able_a and_o also_o leave_v no_o practice_n unattempted_a so_o to_o do_v why_o then_o be_v it_o not_o do_v because_o our_o good_a keeper_n watch_v over_o we_o but_o these_o be_v matter_n of_o faith_n they_o must_v be_v believe_v and_o therefore_o he_o add_v this_o word_n behold_v whereby_o it_o which_o god_n use_v as_o his_o instrument_n for_o our_o preservation_n be_v not_o able_a to_o do_v we_o any_o good_a at_o all_o except_o god_n himself_o take_v upon_o he_o to_o be_v our_o chief_a watchman_n and_o defender_n god_n therefore_o use_v the_o ministry_n of_o these_o for_o our_o succour_n and_o relief_n even_o as_o he_o do_v bread_n drink_n and_o other_o sustenance_n for_o as_o it_o expound_v these_o word_n the_o keeper_n of_o israel_n that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o forsaker_n of_o israel_n do_v not_o sleep_n that_o be_v he_o be_v not_o only_o in_o a_o most_o dead_a sleep_n but_o also_o be_v without_o all_o sense_n and_o be_v in_o deed_n nothing_o for_o reason_n judge_v according_a to_o every_o pinch_n and_o pang_n that_o the_o flesh_n feel_v and_o according_a to_o the_o begin_n of_o affliction_n or_o first_o assault_n and_o not_o according_a to_o the_o word_n and_o the_o end_n or_o deliverance_n which_o god_n promise_v in_o the_o word_n verse_n 5._o the_o lord_n be_v thy_o keeper_n and_o he_o be_v thy_o shadow_n or_o protection_n at_o thy_o right_a hand_n in_o this_o verse_n he_o set_v forth_o more_o at_o large_a the_o certainty_n of_o god_n ready_a help_n and_o contemn_v and_o disobey_v all_o godly_a order_n notwithstanding_o thou_o man_n of_o god_n stand_v in_o thy_o call_n do_v thy_o duty_n pray_v for_o peace_n exhort_v counsel_n reprove_v those_o who_o thou_o have_v charge_v over_o for_o since_o that_o now_o by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n the_o church_n be_v somewhat_o purge_v of_o false_a religion_n superstition_n and_o idolatry_n &_o the_o magistrate_n better_o instruct_v of_o their_o duty_n and_o office_n satan_n rage_v as_o a_o strong_a arm_a man_n keep_v his_o house_n when_o a_o strong_a come_v be_v strong_a therefore_o in_o these_o tentation_n and_o think_v that_o as_o these_o thing_n be_v not_o begin_v by_o the_o power_n of_o satan_n so_o though_o he_o rage_n against_o the_o same_o never_o so_o much_o thou_o must_v not_o be_v discourage_v or_o slack_v the_o lord_n business_n but_o first_o serve_v the_o lord_n and_o then_o thy_o brethren_n and_o neighbour_n for_o their_o sake_n the_o church_n must_v be_v instruct_v the_o common_a wealth_n govern_v not_o for_o the_o world_n sake_n and_o the_o ungodly_a multitude_n for_o it_o be_v not_o worthy_a that_o a_o thief_n shall_v be_v hang_v a_o adulterer_n or_o murderer_n put_v to_o death_n but_o the_o lord_n in_o heaven_n and_o our_o brethren_n &_o neighbour_n in_o earth_n be_v worthy_a of_o this_o service_n as_o he_o add_v in_o the_o verse_n follow_v thus_o i_o brethren_n and_o be_v not_o a_o unprofitable_a servant_n but_o fruitful_a unto_o god_n that_o he_o may_v be_v glorify_v and_o to_o his_o neighbour_n and_o brother_n that_o he_o may_v be_v save_v let_v more_o learning_n and_o judgement_n in_o his_o little_a finger_n than_o hierome_n have_v in_o all_o his_o body_n for_o he_o ought_v not_o to_o have_v praise_v virginity_n with_o the_o reproach_n and_o gather_v two_o notable_a and_o precious_a liquor_n &_o to_o these_o he_o compare_v the_o wife_n and_o the_o child_n her_o fruit_n before_o the_o world_n most_o contemptible_a thing_n the_o wife_n if_o you_o consider_v her_o condition_n be_v far_o inferior_a unto_o the_o man_n in_o those_o thing_n which_o pertain_v either_o to_o the_o body_n or_o to_o the_o mind_n special_o as_o touch_v the_o affair_n which_o be_v do_v by_o the_o man_n and_o can_v not_o be_v do_v by_o the_o woman_n but_o the_o holy_a ghost_n consider_v the_o gift_n and_o through_o the_o greatness_n and_o excellency_n of_o the_o gift_n he_o cover_v what_o incommodity_n so_o ever_o be_v in_o the_o womankind_n and_o shadow_v the_o same_o with_o most_o excellent_a and_o goodly_a similitude_n now_o that_o we_o may_v see_v somewhat_o the_o cause_n why_o the_o holy_a ghost_n so_o great_o commend_v the_o woman_n kind_n let_v we_o imagine_v that_o we_o be_v all_o unmarried_a for_o the_o world_n detest_v marriage_n but_o special_o they_o that_o be_v unmarried_a yea_o let_v we_o presuppose_v that_o in_o the_o world_n there_o be_v neither_o man_n nor_o woman_n but_o such_o a_o one_o as_o be_v neither_o of_o they_o both_o that_o by_o this_o mean_v singleness_n of_o life_n may_v be_v imagine_v to_o be_v the_o more_o perfect_a what_o shall_v become_v i_o pray_v you_o of_o such_o a_o happy_a world_n pure_a chastity_n and_o singleness_n of_o life_n how_o shall_v mankind_n continue_v shall_v not_o the_o whole_a world_n within_o twenty_o year_n be_v like_a unto_o a_o desert_n and_o a_o wild_a wilderness_n what_o use_n shall_v there_o be_v then_o of_o gold_n and_o silver_n yea_o what_o use_n shall_v there_o be_v of_o the_o sun_n the_o moon_n and_o all_o thing_n else_o that_o grow_v upon_o the_o earth_n wherefore_o these_o high_a commendation_n of_o matrimony_n be_v here_o set_v against_o the_o venomous_a tongue_n both_o of_o satan_n and_o of_o wicked_a man_n wherewith_o they_o do_v so_o malicious_o slander_v this_o kind_n of_o life_n also_o against_o the_o corrupt_a &_o perverse_a judgement_n of_o the_o flesh_n whereby_o we_o be_v provoke_v either_o to_o a_o loathe_n &_o contemn_v of_o this_o kind_n of_o life_n or_o else_o to_o impatiency_n when_o our_o eye_n be_v blind_v in_o discern_v and_o judge_v the_o benefit_n and_o commodity_n thereof_o and_o be_v still_o in_o behold_v of_o the_o fault_n the_o incommodity_n or_o trouble_n that_o belong_v to_o the_o same_o thus_o the_o wise_a sort_n even_o amongst_o the_o gentile_n will_v not_o do_v for_o they_o do_v see_v that_o there_o be_v a_o natural_a affection_n in_o the_o man_n and_o the_o wife_n towards_o their_o child_n and_o a_o mutual_a love_n &_o faithfulness_n between_o themselves_o &_o both_o these_o thing_n they_o praise_v and_o set_v forth_o with_o great_a commendation_n so_o god_n by_o the_o small_a number_n of_o the_o wise_a sort_n even_o among_o the_o gentile_n do_v overcome_v the_o multitude_n of_o these_o viperous_a tongue_n which_o be_v so_o venomous_a &_o spiteful_a against_o this_o kind_n of_o life_n how_o much_o more_o than_o ought_v we_o to_o defend_v matrimony_n we_o i_o say_v who_o the_o holy_a ghost_n move_v &_o stir_v up_o so_o to_o do_v by_o these_o excellent_a similitude_n whereby_o he_o show_v that_o god_n be_v so_o delight_v with_o the_o life_n of_o marry_a folk_n that_o not_o only_o he_o give_v his_o blessing_n for_o the_o sustentation_n of_o this_o life_n but_o also_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o belly_n and_o of_o the_o breast_n as_o moses_n call_v it_o this_o no_o doubt_n will_v not_o god_n do_v if_o he_o hate_v such_o as_o be_v marry_v for_o he_o say_v unto_o adam_n all_o that_o grow_v upon_o the_o earth_n shall_v be_v unto_o thou_o for_o food_n and_o sustenance_n after_o the_o flood_n also_o he_o give_v unto_o man_n the_o use_n of_o clean_a beast_n yea_o he_o give_v unto_o matrimony_n what_o treasure_n and_o riches_n so_o ever_o be_v in_o the_o world_n and_o what_o so_o ever_o in_o nature_n be_v contain_v all_o these_o be_v lively_a testimony_n that_o god_n approve_v like_v and_o love_v this_o kind_n of_o life_n although_o the_o holy_a scripture_n shall_v speak_v nothing_o thereof_o at_o all_o moreover_o who_o see_v not_o that_o the_o propagation_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n kind_n be_v ordain_v of_o god_n let_v we_o therefore_o be_v mindful_a of_o world_n which_o like_v unto_o the_o mule_n and_o the_o ass_n follow_v the_o fence_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o be_v overcome_v with_o these_o trouble_n and_o tentation_n the_o good_a gift_n of_o god_n it_o understand_v not_o but_o some_o time_n it_o detest_v and_o abhor_v they_o for_o you_o shall_v find_v many_o to_o who_o it_o seem_v a_o great_a misery_n to_o have_v many_o child_n as_o though_o matrimony_n be_v ordain_v for_o beastly_a pleasure_n only_o and_o not_o to_o this_o end_n rather_o that_o we_o may_v do_v acceptable_a service_n both_o to_o god_n and_o man_n in_o nourish_v and_o bring_v up_o of_o child_n these_o man_n be_v ignorant_a of_o that_o which_o be_v most_o comfortable_a in_o matrimony_n for_o what_o be_v to_o be_v compare_v unto_o the_o love_n of_o parent_n towards_o their_o child_n especial_o since_o here_o thou_o see_v that_o child_n be_v the_o great_a portion_n of_o god_n blessing_n but_o here_o again_o we_o have_v need_n of_o faith_n for_o the_o world_n take_v it_o not_o for_o a_o blessing_n when_o a_o man_n get_v his_o live_n by_o labour_n &_o travail_n suffer_v the_o trouble_n and_o vexation_n of_o his_o wife_n his_o child_n his_o servant_n and_o such_o like_a whereof_o in_o matrimony_n there_o be_v many_o these_o thing_n i_o say_v the_o world_n esteem_v not_o as_o blessing_n but_o abhor_v they_o as_o malediction_n but_o the_o holy_a ghost_n to_o confirm_v the_o mind_n of_o the_o godly_a commend_v and_o set_v forth_o all_o that_o he_o have_v hitherto_o say_v by_o this_o sweet_a and_o comfortable_a name_n and_o call_v they_o blessing_n to_o the_o end_n he_o may_v stir_v we_o up_o to_o know_v god_n and_o his_o gift_n right_o lest_o that_o in_o the_o mid_n of_o his_o benefit_n and_o blessing_n we_o shall_v fall_v to_o a_o loathe_n so_o come_v to_o pass_v often_o time_n that_o they_o be_v vex_v with_o the_o sin_n of_o impatiency_n through_o the_o offence_n of_o their_o family_n their_o child_n and_o some_o time_n their_o neighbour_n but_o what_o then_o all_o thing_n can_v be_v so_o pure_a and_o so_o perfect_a in_o this_o our_o infirmity_n but_o that_o oftentimes_o we_o shall_v feel_v either_o some_o excess_n or_o some_o lack_n both_o within_o the_o house_n and_o without_o but_o this_o sin_n of_o impatiency_n the_o daily_a prayer_n of_o the_o godly_a do_v quench_v &_o overcome_v and_o thus_o must_v the_o godly_a comfort_n themselves_o that_o they_o be_v place_v among_o god_n blessing_n and_o live_v a_o life_n bless_v of_o god_n this_o faith_n the_o great_a and_o strong_a it_o be_v the_o more_o joy_n it_o bring_v for_o albeit_o some_o trouble_n do_v happen_v &_o we_o some_o time_n also_o be_v overtake_v with_o sin_n yet_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n omnipotent_a wherefore_o in_o all_o tentation_n the_o victory_n be_v they_o which_o stick_v faithful_o thereunto_o these_o word_n therefore_o must_v be_v receive_v as_o the_o oracle_n of_o god_n and_o this_o kind_n of_o life_n we_o must_v adorn_v be_v a_o lively_a testimony_n against_o god_n as_o before_o we_o say_v of_o diogenes_n this_o argument_n of_o epicurus_n and_o such_o like_a atheist_n be_v to_o the_o flesh_n invincible_a wherefore_o stubble_n to_o the_o fire_n although_o under_o a_o show_n and_o colour_n of_o the_o church_n they_o afflict_v and_o persecute_v we_o never_o so_o much_o verse_n 8._o neither_o they_o which_o go_v by_o say_v we_o bless_v you_o in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n this_o also_o commend_v and_o set_v forth_o unto_o we_o the_o similitude_n of_o the_o grass_n for_o true_a corn_n have_v this_o understanding_n thereof_o into_o a_o fantasy_n of_o their_o own_o imagination_n for_o the_o prophet_n do_v know_v that_o the_o true_a god_n although_o he_o be_v of_o himself_o and_o of_o his_o own_o have_v be_v always_o one_o despair_n now_o like_o as_z the_o wicked_a live_v in_o great_a hope_n and_o comfort_v themselves_o marvellous_o so_o long_o as_o they_o be_v in_o prosperity_n so_o when_o they_o be_v touch_v with_o adversity_n they_o most_o miserable_o despair_v but_o the_o godly_a continue_v and_o constant_o endure_v in_o hope_n and_o comfort_n in_o all_o trouble_n and_o calamity_n so_o this_o promise_n as_o touch_v the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n be_v hinder_v many_o and_o sundry_a way_n by_o rebellious_a people_n by_o enemy_n and_o wicked_a king_n until_o at_o the_o last_o the_o city_n and_o the_o temple_n be_v destroy_v the_o people_n carry_v away_o captive_a and_o none_o leave_v but_o plowman_n and_o such_o as_o be_v of_o the_o base_a sort_n now_o the_o word_n the_o worship_n and_o service_n of_o god_n the_o accustom_a judgement_n and_o brief_o the_o church_n the_o policy_n and_o the_o kingdom_n be_v go_v here_o what_o hope_n be_v leave_v that_o there_o shall_v remain_v any_o posterity_n unto_o david_n as_o this_o psalm_n here_o promise_v this_o promise_n therefore_o be_v necessary_a that_o thereby_o the_o godly_a may_v be_v able_a to_o comfort_v themselves_o that_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o this_o kingdom_n to_o fall_v before_o christ_n the_o true_a seed_n of_o david_n shall_v be_v reveil_v wherefore_o when_o all_o thing_n seem_v to_o be_v most_o desperate_a god_n raise_v up_o certain_a notable_a prophet_n he_o set_v up_o daniel_n also_o among_o great_a and_o mighty_a prince_n moreover_o the_o time_n be_v appoint_v by_o the_o prophet_n jeremy_n 29._o namely_o 70._o year_n after_o the_o which_o they_o shall_v return_v into_o their_o land_n the_o remnant_n of_o the_o royal_a stock_n that_o be_v to_o say_v of_o david_n be_v preserve_v even_o in_o captivity_n thus_o although_o the_o kingdom_n seem_v in_o outward_a show_n to_o be_v utter_o forsake_v yet_o be_v it_o not_o forsake_v and_o the_o godly_a constant_o continue_v in_o hope_n of_o deliverance_n when_o the_o wicked_a despair_v and_o miserable_o perish_v in_o like_a manner_n do_v we_o believe_v and_o comfort_v ourselves_o at_o this_o day_n that_o christ_n will_v defend_v and_o maintain_v his_o kingdom_n and_o his_o church_n even_o to_o the_o end_n of_o the_o world_n despair_v though_o the_o romish_a antichrist_n triumph_n never_o so_o much_o sit_v in_o the_o temple_n of_o god_n and_o exercise_v his_o tyranny_n as_o though_o he_o will_v utter_o oppress_v the_o church_n for_o these_o promise_v god_n leave_v with_o his_o church_n that_o in_o such_o necessity_n and_o danger_n it_o shall_v not_o be_v without_o comfort_n which_o promise_v albeit_o the_o church_n can_v not_o full_o and_o perfect_o believe_v yet_o do_v it_o not_o deny_v or_o reject_v the_o same_o and_o christ_n accept_v and_o commend_v our_o faith_n although_o it_o be_v no_o more_o than_o a_o grain_n of_o mustard_n feed_v this_o to_o know_v &_o this_o to_o teach_v it_o be_v necessary_a for_o the_o time_n will_v come_v if_o we_o be_v not_o prevent_v by_o the_o late_a day_n when_o satan_n by_o his_o minister_n with_o might_n and_o main_a will_v attempt_v all_o the_o mean_v he_o can_v to_o quench_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o gospel_n here_o although_o we_o also_o shall_v see_v the_o kingdom_n bring_v into_o captivity_n and_o the_o ark_n carry_v clean_o away_o as_o the_o jew_n do_v yet_o must_v we_o trust_v that_o god_n will_v give_v we_o prophet_n and_o that_o his_o church_n although_o it_o seem_v to_o be_v utter_o forsake_v he_o will_v never_o for_o forsake_v for_o the_o word_n of_o god_n who_o promise_n we_o have_v aught_o to_o move_v we_o more_o than_o the_o present_a danger_n seem_v it_o never_o so_o terrible_a for_o if_o god_n through_o much_o patience_n do_v preserve_v his_o church_n under_o the_o papacy_n if_o he_o suffer_v many_o abuse_n which_o blind_a guide_n and_o wicked_a teacher_n bring_v into_o the_o church_n if_o at_o the_o length_n when_o all_o thing_n be_v desperate_a and_o past_a all_o hope_n he_o cause_v the_o light_n of_o his_o word_n to_o shine_v in_o the_o mid_n of_o most_o horrible_a darkness_n why_o shall_v we_o despair_v the_o mercy_n of_o god_n be_v great_a than_o heaven_n and_o earth_n &_o be_v able_a to_o swallow_v up_o all_o error_n into_o the_o which_o the_o very_a elect_a by_o false_a prophet_n blind_a teacher_n and_o the_o iniquity_n of_o time_n be_v often_o time_n lead_v there_o be_v no_o man_n which_o will_v not_o wish_v for_o peace_n and_o quietness_n in_o the_o common_a wealth_n and_o in_o the_o people_n obedience_n and_o godliness_n so_o be_v it_o to_o be_v wish_v that_o in_o the_o church_n there_o may_v be_v unity_n and_o concord_n promise_n and_o that_o there_o may_v be_v no_o offence_n either_o in_o doctrine_n or_o life_n that_o prince_n and_o magistrate_n will_v not_o hate_v or_o persecute_v but_o like_v love_n &_o embrace_v the_o word_n notwithstanding_o such_o a_o common_a wealth_n and_o such_o a_o church_n may_v well_o be_v paint_v out_o of_o a_o cunning_a artificer_n but_o in_o this_o world_n they_o can_v never_o yet_o be_v find_v wherefore_o let_v we_o not_o look_v to_o see_v the_o face_n either_o of_o such_o a_o quiet_a common_a wealth_n or_o of_o so_o pure_a a_o church_n but_o herewith_o let_v we_o content_v ourselves_o that_o the_o church_n and_o common_a wealth_n although_o they_o be_v not_o without_o great_a trouble_n and_o danger_n do_v not_o utter_o perish_v that_o there_o be_v some_o majesty_n in_o the_o common_a wealth_n and_o in_o the_o church_n pure_a and_o sound_o doctrine_n and_o that_o there_o be_v some_o which_o magnify_v the_o word_n use_v prayer_n and_o frequent_v the_o sacrament_n although_o the_o great_a part_n do_v the_o contrary_n and_o to_o say_v from_o the_o head_n he_o show_v the_o nature_n of_o true_a concord_n for_o like_a as_o the_o ointment_n run_v down_o from_o the_o head_n of_o aaron_n the_o high_a priest_n upon_o his_o beard_n and_o so_o descend_v unto_o the_o border_n of_o his_o garment_n even_o so_o true_a concord_n in_o doctrine_n and_o brotherly_a love_n flow_v as_o a_o precious_a ointment_n by_o the_o unity_n of_o the_o spirit_n from_o christ_n the_o high_a priest_n and_o head_n of_o the_o church_n unto_o all_o the_o member_n of_o the_o same_o signify_v for_o by_o the_o beard_n and_o extreme_a part_n of_o the_o garment_n he_o signify_v that_o as_o far_o as_o the_o church_n reach_v so_o far_o spread_v that_o unity_n which_o flow_v from_o christ_n her_o head_n or_o by_o the_o beard_n we_o may_v understand_v those_o to_o who_o the_o office_n of_o teach_v belong_v because_o the_o beard_n be_v join_v unto_o the_o mouth_n which_o be_v the_o instrument_n of_o doctrine_n and_o by_o the_o extreme_a part_n of_o the_o garment_n the_o rest_n of_o the_o church_n which_o be_v the_o garment_n of_o christ_n this_o similitude_n express_v most_o lively_a how_o great_a the_o virtue_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o concord_n be_v wherewith_o all_o the_o member_n of_o christ_n be_v anoint_a for_o it_o make_v their_o life_n sweet_a and_o pleasant_a in_o so_o much_o that_o whatsoever_o they_o do_v it_o give_v a_o sweet_a odor_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o god._n if_o the_o unquiet_a spirit_n which_o trouble_v the_o church_n at_o this_o day_n can_v believe_v that_o the_o peace_n and_o concord_n of_o the_o church_n be_v such_o a_o holy_a and_o a_o pleasant_a ointment_n to_o the_o lord_n church_n separate_a from_o all_o profane_a use_n they_o will_v be_v more_o sober_a and_o circumspect_a than_o they_o be_v but_o because_o they_o believe_v it_o not_o therefore_o they_o employ_v this_o holy_a ointment_n to_o unholy_a use_n seek_v thereby_o their_o own_o glory_n yea_o they_o turn_v the_o psalm_n clean_o contrary_a and_o say_v in_o their_o heart_n behold_v how_o pleasant_a a_o thing_n it_o be_v to_o trouble_v the_o brethren_n they_o will_v not_o have_v they_o to_o enjoy_v this_o holy_a ointment_n that_o be_v to_o dwell_v and_o live_v together_o in_o this_o heavenly_a concord_n these_o we_o must_v fly_v to_o these_o we_o must_v in_o no_o wise_n be_v like_o but_o must_v learn_v that_o the_o unity_n of_o the_o church_n be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n which_o we_o must_v defend_v and_o maintain_v with_o all_o our_o power_n for_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o pleasant_a in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n and_o his_o angel_n then_o when_o the_o pastor_n and_o governor_n of_o the_o church_n do_v dwell_v together_o in_o godly_a concord_n teach_v and_o follow_v with_o one_o consent_n one_o true_a sincere_a and_o uniform_a doctrine_n between_o the_o pope_n and_o his_o rabble_n there_o be_v great_a concord_n papist_n for_o there_o be_v a_o concord_n even_o amongst_o thief_n as_o there_o be_v between_o judas_n and_o the_o pharisee_o but_o this_o be_v not_o the_o concord_n which_o the_o psalm_n here_o speak_v of_o but_o the_o psalm_n commend_v that_o concord_n which_o be_v amongst_o those_o that_o have_v the_o pure_a and_o sincere_a word_n therefore_o the_o prophet_n here_o use_v a_o similitude_n which_o only_o pertain_v to_o aaron_n name_v to_o be_v you_o high_a priest_n by_o god_n own_o mouth_n signify_v thereby_o that_o this_o concord_n be_v spread_v by_o the_o preacher_n of_o the_o word_n throughout_o the_o whole_a body_n of_o the_o church_n so_o that_o not_o only_o the_o body_n itself_o be_v refresh_v with_o this_o ointment_n but_o also_o the_o sweet_a smell_n thereof_o be_v disperse_v every_o where_o and_o the_o fame_n of_o the_o church_n be_v glorious_a both_o before_o god_n &_o man_n those_o i_o mean_v which_o understand_v and_o acknowledge_v this_o heavenly_a benefit_n verse_n 3._o as_o the_o dew_n of_o hermon_n which_o fall_v upon_o the_o mountain_n of_o zion_n for_o there_o the_o lord_n appoint_v the_o blessing_n and_o life_n for_o ever_o hermon_n hermon_n be_v a_o mountain_n join_v upon_o libanus_n hereof_o it_o come_v that_o in_o a_o other_o place_n he_o call_v judea_n which_o be_v compass_v with_o mountain_n the_o land_n of_o hermonijm_n as_o touch_v this_o similitude_n i_o think_v the_o prophet_n use_v the_o common_a manner_n of_o speak_v for_o whereas_o the_o mountain_n often_o time_n seem_v to_o those_o that_o behold_v they_o a_o far_o of_o to_o reach_v up_o even_o unto_o heaven_n the_o dew_n which_o come_v from_o heaven_n seem_v to_o fall_v from_o the_o high_a mountain_n unto_o the_o hill_n which_o be_v under_o they_o therefore_o he_o say_v that_o the_o dew_n descend_v from_o hermon_n unto_o the_o mount_n zion_n because_o it_o so_o seem_v unto_o those_o that_o do_v behold_v it_o a_o far_o of_o and_o this_o clause_n after_o my_o judgement_n pertain_v to_o civil_a concord_n like_a as_o the_o former_a similitude_n pertain_v to_o the_o church_n because_o god_n through_o peace_n and_o concord_n make_v common_a wealth_n and_o kingdom_n to_o flourish_v even_o as_o seed_n herb_n and_o plant_n be_v fresh_a and_o flourish_v through_o the_o morning_n dew_n the_o beginning_n of_o this_o peace_n come_v from_o the_o prince_n &_o magistrate_n as_o from_o mount_n hermon_n â–ª_o from_o who_o it_o flow_v unto_o every_o particular_a person_n and_o to_o the_o whole_a common_a wealth_n which_o be_v refresh_v therewith_o as_o it_o be_v with_o the_o dew_n of_o heaven_n whereby_o all_o thing_n do_v prosper_v and_o flourish_v for_o like_v as_o by_o the_o dew_n all_o thing_n that_o grow_v upon_o the_o earth_n do_v spring_n and_o increase_v even_o so_o small_a thing_n through_o peace_n &_o concord_n do_v grow_v to_o great_a increase_n contrariwise_o like_v as_o in_o the_o time_n of_o great_a heat_n &_o drought_n all_o thing_n wither_v away_o &_o perish_v so_o war_n sedition_n &_o tumult_n subvert_a and_o destroy_v common_a weal_n &_o kingdom_n wherefore_o we_o have_v need_n not_o only_o of_o diligent_a exhortation_n but_o also_o of_o continual_a hearty_a and_o faithful_a death_n and_o destruction_n there_o be_v a_o certain_a vehemency_n in_o this_o word_n life_n or_o life_n in_o the_o plural_a number_n for_o it_o signify_v all_o kind_n of_o life_n as_o the_o priest_n the_o levite_n the_o faithful_a the_o magistrate_n artificer_n citizen_n husbandman_n etc_n etc_n as_o if_o he_o say_v all_o state_n of_o life_n shall_v be_v bless_v with_o
holy_a place_n must_v offer_v up_o pure_a and_o holy_a prayer_n so_o say_v s._n paul_n also_o lift_v up_o pure_a hand_n 2.8_o etc_n etc_n for_o else_o you_o shall_v pray_v in_o vain_a pure_a hand_n signify_v innocence_n from_o blood_n extortion_n spoil_n &_o robbery_n the_o prophet_n therefore_o set_v forth_o here_o two_o sort_n of_o man_n come_v to_o the_o temple_n &_o pray_v some_o there_o be_v that_o come_v and_o pray_v in_o innocence_n and_o holiness_n some_o again_o pray_v in_o hypocrisy_n have_v their_o hand_n defile_v with_o blood_n 107.7_o the_o prayer_n of_o such_o be_v sin_n as_o the_o psalm_n say_v paul_n teach_v in_o like_a manner_n concern_v prayer_n 1.2_o pray_v say_v he_o without_o wrath_n or_o doubt_v also_o our_o saviour_n christ_n say_v if_o thou_o bring_v thy_o
