be_v that_o which_o be_v make_v by_o one_o spirit_n and_o life_n move_v in_o the_o whole_a and_o therefore_o i_o take_v notice_n that_o the_o scripture_n delight_v most_o frequent_o to_o use_v the_o two_o first_o example_n of_o a_o body_n and_o a_o building_n and_o those_o that_o be_v near_a to_o these_o now_o because_o a_o building_n have_v no_o life_n but_o yet_o by_o its_o firmness_n and_o strength_n do_v notable_o set_v forth_o the_o firmness_n of_o the_o union_n that_o be_v between_o christ_n and_o his_o people_n therefore_o the_o apostle_n put_v both_o these_o together_o and_o call_v christ_n a_o live_a stone_n and_o those_o that_o come_v to_o he_o lively_a or_o live_a stone_n which_o be_v build_v up_o a_o spiritual_a house_n or_o temple_n where_o they_o offer_v spiritual_a sacrifice_n unto_o god_n 1_o pet._n 2.4_o 5._o that_o union_n therefore_o be_v most_o perfect_a which_o be_v make_v by_o life_n though_o other_o may_v be_v of_o great_a est_fw-fr strength_n and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n apply_v it_o even_o to_o thing_n without_o life_n that_o he_o may_v the_o better_o show_v that_o the_o union_n between_o christ_n and_o his_o member_n by_o one_o life_n be_v in_o strength_n more_o like_o the_o solidness_n of_o a_o temple_n then_o any_o other_o thing_n who_o part_n be_v so_o cement_v as_o that_o they_o will_v last_v as_o long_o as_o the_o world_n 3._o we_o must_v observe_v that_o thing_n at_o the_o great_a distance_n may_v be_v unite_v by_o one_o spirit_n of_o life_n actuate_a they_o both_o and_o so_o may_v christ_n and_o we_o though_o we_o enjoy_v not_o his_o bodily_a presence_n it_o be_v true_o note_v by_o a_o most_o rev._n usher_n a._n usher_n person_n that_o the_o formal_a reason_n of_o the_o union_n that_o be_v make_v between_o the_o part_n of_o our_o body_n consist_v not_o in_o their_o continuity_n and_o touch_v of_o each_o other_o but_o in_o the_o animation_n of_o they_o by_o one_o and_o the_o same_o spirit_n which_o tie_v they_o all_o together_o if_o the_o spirit_n withdraw_v itself_o from_o any_o part_n so_o that_o it_o be_v mortify_v it_o present_o remain_v as_o if_o it_o be_v not_o of_o the_o body_n though_o its_o part_n still_o touch_v the_o next_o member_n to_o it_o and_o so_o we_o see_v in_o tree_n if_o any_o branch_n be_v deprive_v of_o the_o vegetative_a spirit_n it_o drop_v from_o the_o tree_n as_o now_o no_o more_o belong_v to_o it_o on_o the_o other_o side_n you_o see_v the_o toe_n have_v a_o union_n with_o the_o head_n though_o at_o a_o distance_n not_o only_o by_o the_o intervening_a of_o many_o part_n that_o reach_v from_o they_o unto_o it_o but_o by_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v present_a in_o the_o far_a member_n and_o give_v the_o head_n as_o speedy_a notice_n of_o what_o be_v do_v in_o the_o remote_a part_n as_o if_o it_o be_v the_o next_o door_n to_o the_o brain_n and_o this_o it_o do_v without_o the_o assistance_n of_o the_o neighbour_a part_n that_o shall_v whisper_v the_o grief_n of_o the_o toe_n from_o one_o to_o the_o other_o till_o the_o head_n hear_v but_o without_o the_o least_o trouble_n to_o any_o of_o they_o which_o do_v not_o feel_v their_o pain_n if_o you_o shall_v suppose_v therefore_o our_o body_n to_o be_v as_o high_a as_o the_o heaven_n and_o the_o head_n of_o it_o to_o touch_v the_o throne_n of_o god_n and_o the_o foot_n to_o stand_v upon_o his_o footstool_n the_o earth_n no_o soon_o can_v the_o head_n think_v of_o move_v a_o toe_n but_o present_o it_o will_v stir_v and_o no_o soon_o can_v any_o pain_n befall_v the_o most_o distant_a part_n than_o the_o head_n will_v be_v advise_v of_o it_o which_o must_v be_v by_o virtue_n of_o that_o spirit_n which_o be_v conceive_v alike_o present_a to_o every_o part_n and_o therefore_o that_o must_v be_v take_v likewise_o to_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o that_o union_n which_o be_v among_o they_o all_o just_o so_o may_v you_o apprehend_v the_o union_n to_o be_v between_o christ_n our_o head_n and_o we_o his_o member_n although_o in_o regard_n of_o his_o corporal_a presence_n he_o be_v in_o the_o heaven_n which_o must_v receive_v he_o until_o the_o time_n of_o the_o restitution_n of_o all_o thing_n act._n bread_n and_o wine_n without_o any_o labour_n will_v convey_v they_o unto_o he_o and_o therefore_o i_o must_v give_v you_o another_o short_a information_n which_o be_v the_o second_o thing_n that_o i_o promise_v and_o that_o be_v this_o 2._o this_o copious_a food_n do_v not_o nourish_v we_o without_o some_o action_n of_o our_o own_o even_o such_o as_o i_o have_v already_o mention_v in_o this_o discourse_n it_o do_v not_o feed_v we_o in_o a_o natural_a but_o in_o a_o moral_a and_o spiritual_a manner_n it_o reiresh_v we_o by_o our_o consideration_n by_o our_o faith_n our_o love_n our_o prayer_n our_o covenant_a and_o thanksgiving_n but_o all_o the_o cunning_a in_o the_o world_n will_v not_o draw_v a_o drop_n of_o blood_n out_o of_o it_o without_o these_o no_o it_o draw_v out_o the_o blood_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o waste_v our_o strength_n by_o a_o careless_a and_o profane_a eat_v of_o it_o the_o papist_n talk_v of_o great_a thing_n that_o their_o priest_n give_v in_o this_o sacrament_n by_o their_o power_n and_o they_o will_v make_v the_o world_n believe_v that_o they_o communicate_v more_o than_o we_o can_v do_v but_o we_o must_v solemn_o aver_v that_o our_o ministry_n convey_v as_o great_a thing_n as_o they_o speak_v of_o only_a man_n must_v do_v something_o more_o of_o the_o work_n themselves_o we_o pretend_v not_o indeed_o to_o send_v wicked_a man_n to_o heaven_n with_o a_o word_n but_o we_o can_v help_v the_o thought_n and_o affection_n of_o all_o pious_a soul_n as_o much_o as_o they_o with_o all_o their_o skill_n and_o power_n nay_o if_o the_o people_n do_v nothing_o we_o give_v they_o more_o than_o they_o for_o they_o feed_v they_o with_o hungry_a accident_n they_o give_v they_o a_o bit_n of_o quantity_n and_o a_o cup_n of_o colour_n yea_o the_o laity_n have_v not_o so_o much_o as_o a_o sip_n of_o these_o figure_n whereas_o the_o worst_a man_n among_o we_o have_v at_o least_o bread_n and_o wine_n so_o that_o the_o best_a among_o we_o enjoy_v as_o much_o in_o effect_n and_o virtue_n as_o they_o can_v pretend_v unto_o and_o the_o worst_a by_o their_o own_o confession_n enjoy_v much_o more_o but_o the_o truth_n of_o it_o be_v that_o man_n have_v heighten_v these_o thing_n to_o such_o incomprehensible_a mystery_n because_o they_o will_v do_v nothing_o and_o these_o shall_v do_v all_o they_o have_v advance_v these_o sacred_a rite_n of_o christ_n appoinment_n into_o a_o degree_n of_o virtue_n beyond_o all_o his_o other_o command_n that_o so_o by_o these_o easy_a and_o facile_a rite_n of_o baptism_n and_o the_o lord_n supper_n man_n may_v go_v to_o heaven_n by_o a_o compendious_a manner_n of_o do_v little_a or_o nothing_o towards_o their_o salvation_n and_o they_o have_v not_o leave_v these_o rite_n as_o naked_a as_o christ_n bring_v they_o into_o the_o world_n but_o they_o have_v change_v the_o manner_n of_o their_o observance_n and_o clothe_v they_o in_o a_o great_a many_o strange_a dress_n lest_o the_o genuine_a
