disquiet_v they_o and_o they_o say_v what_o will_v you_o have_v do_v by_o we_o and_o they_o think_v it_o a_o matter_n of_o curiosity_n either_o to_o have_v their_o heart_n change_v or_o their_o life_n reform_v now_o therefore_o the_o lord_n send_v in_o this_o work_n of_o contrition_n and_o pierce_v the_o heart_n through_o and_o let_v in_o the_o horror_n of_o his_o vengeance_n and_o make_v the_o soul_n see_v that_o if_o he_o will_v have_v his_o sin_n he_o must_v have_v his_o damnation_n too_o and_o by_o this_o time_n the_o soul_n come_v to_o see_v need_n of_o a_o change_n and_o he_o see_v settle_v the_o second_o thing_n which_o keep_v he_o off_o from_o christ_n be_v carnal_a confidence_n for_o when_o the_o sinner_n see_v his_o misery_n by_o reason_n of_o his_o sin_n that_o lodge_v in_o his_o heart_n and_o that_o have_v be_v commit_v by_o he_o than_o he_o begin_v to_o seek_v succour_n and_o to_o scramble_v for_o his_o own_o comfort_n well_o he_o see_v that_o sin_n be_v dangerous_a and_o he_o will_v mend_v now_o and_o reform_v all_o that_o god_n condemn_v he_o in_o and_o he_o think_v out_o of_o his_o own_o power_n to_o save_v his_o own_o soul_n and_o to_o give_v god_n content_a and_o to_o make_v amends_o for_o all_o that_o he_o have_v do_v amiss_o this_o be_v his_o carnal_a confidence_n which_o he_o have_v in_o his_o own_o selfe-sufficiency_n and_o here_o many_o thousand_o of_o soul_n perish_v rest_v mere_o in_o the_o husk_n and_o shell_n of_o their_o prayer_n and_o hear_v which_o in_o themselves_o be_v good_a and_o commendable_a but_o they_o be_v no_o mediator_n or_o saviour_n to_o we_o therefore_o that_o the_o lord_n may_v pluck_v the_o soul_n from_o this_o carnal_a confidence_n he_o send_v out_o another_o great_a work_n of_o humiliation_n and_o make_v the_o soul_n see_v the_o weakness_n and_o emptiness_n of_o its_o duty_n and_o that_o there_o be_v enough_o in_o its_o best_a service_n to_o condemn_v he_o and_o for_o which_o the_o lord_n wrath_n may_v confound_v he_o for_o ever_o and_o now_o the_o soul_n see_v that_o notwithstanding_o all_o his_o prayer_n and_o hear_n yet_o his_o sin_n remain_v yea_o remain_v unpardoned_a his_o corruption_n be_v not_o subdue_v his_o conscience_n not_o quiet_v and_o therefore_o despair_v of_o all_o help_n in_o himself_o or_o in_o the_o creature_n he_o fall_v down_o at_o the_o foot_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o be_v content_a to_o be_v at_o god_n dispose_n and_o when_o the_o soul_n be_v thus_o fit_v than_o it_o be_v prepare_v to_o go_v out_o of_o itself_o and_o to_o lay_v hold_n upon_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o upon_o the_o fountain_n of_o all_o that_o good_a that_o work_v all_o good_a in_o he_o this_o humiliation_n work_v and_o this_o be_v the_o fit_v of_o the_o soul_n for_o christ_n thus_o far_o we_o have_v go_v all_o this_o while_n the_o poor_a sinner_n be_v like_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n travel_v in_o the_o wilderness_n partly_o in_o the_o valley_n of_o tear_n and_o partly_o in_o the_o vast_a wilderness_n they_o do_v not_o immediate_o come_v into_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n but_o be_v wander_v under_o the_o hand_n of_o moses_n which_o be_v a_o type_n of_o the_o law_n and_o joshua_n a_o type_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o egypt_n the_o resemblance_n of_o a_o man_n misery_n under_o sin_n and_o satan_n and_o their_o wander_a in_o the_o wilderness_n be_v like_o the_o humble_v and_o break_v of_o the_o soul_n that_o the_o lord_n may_v do_v it_o good_a now_o we_o be_v just_a upon_o the_o coast_n of_o canaan_n and_o hard_o by_o all_o those_o spiritual_a good_a thing_n that_o christ_n have_v purchase_v for_o we_o and_o when_o the_o soul_n be_v thus_o fit_v and_o prepare_v there_o be_v nothing_o to_o be_v do_v but_o to_o go_v into_o the_o good_a land_n and_o take_v possession_n i_o mean_v when_o the_o heart_n be_v thus_o rend_v from_o himself_o and_o his_o corruption_n than_o he_o must_v lay_v hold_v upon_o christ_n and_o enter_v into_o the_o good_a land_n but_o before_o we_o go_v we_o must_v have_v the_o command_n of_o our_o spiritual_a joshua_n to_o set_v we_o in_o possession_n of_o it_o thus_o you_o see_v the_o soul_n be_v like_o a_o graft_n cut_v off_o presence_n with_o we_o yet_o there_o be_v another_o hindrance_n which_o keep_v off_o the_o poor_a soul_n and_o that_o be_v when_o our_o eye_n be_v hinder_v that_o we_o can_v see_v christ_n though_o he_o be_v before_o we_o when_o the_o sting_n of_o conscience_n remain_v and_o the_o fierceness_n of_o some_o temptaion_n press_v in_o
love_v christ_n i_o say_v neither_o thou_o nor_o i_o can_v do_v it_o by_o any_o power_n or_o virtue_n in_o ourselves_o nay_o i_o say_v thou_o be_v as_o able_a to_o save_v thy_o own_o soul_n and_o to_o it_o jesus_n christ_n come_v into_o the_o world_n to_o save_v sinner_n but_o the_o world_n will_v not_o receive_v he_o so_o far_o be_v they_o from_o seek_v to_o a_o saviour_n that_o they_o will_v not_o receive_v he_o though_o he_o come_v to_o offer_v himself_o to_o they_o thou_o have_v a_o heart_n that_o hate_v jesus_n christ_n and_o can_v love_v he_o and_o thou_o have_v a_o heart_n that_o can_v oppose_v he_o and_o his_o grace_n but_o can_v not_o take_v contentment_n in_o that_o grace_n and_o rich_a mercy_n of_o he_o if_o thou_o have_v not_o grace_n and_o mercy_n thou_o have_v but_o what_o thou_o will_v have_v and_o therefore_o it_o be_v just_a thou_o shall_v never_o have_v it_o the_o second_o cause_n promise_n saint_n jove_n not_o as_o they_o may_v and_o shall_v because_o they_o rely_v not_o on_o the_o promise_n why_o i_o press_v this_o instruction_n be_v this_o to_o show_v the_o disorderly_a proceed_n of_o many_o poor_a saint_n that_o labour_n extreme_o to_o work_v their_o can_v love_v jesus_n christ_n they_o labour_v much_o and_o will_v bring_v their_o heart_n to_o love_v he_o but_o they_o can_v do_v it_o because_o they_o go_v to_o work_v the_o contrary_a way_n they_o will_v bring_v love_n to_o the_o promise_n and_o not_o receive_v love_n from_o the_o promise_n as_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v bring_v water_n to_o the_o sea_n or_o light_n to_o the_o sun_n it_o be_v as_o if_o he_o will_v have_v a_o sun_n of_o his_o own_o and_o yet_o there_o be_v but_o one_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n that_o can_v kindle_v this_o love_n of_o jesus_n christ_n to_o carry_v itself_o worthy_a of_o he_o therefore_o be_v wise_a herein_o and_o think_v not_o to_o bring_v love_n to_o the_o promise_n but_o come_v to_o the_o promise_n for_o it_o and_o go_v to_o the_o sea_n for_o water_n
