his_o own_o example_n and_o such_o as_o belong_v unto_o he_o by_o good_a friend_n by_o a_o serious_a care_n of_o ecclesiastical_a and_o scholastical_a course_n and_o also_o by_o commandment_n and_o law_n by_o admonition_n and_o exhortation_n stir_v they_o up_o to_o their_o duty_n but_o if_o yet_o neither_o by_o this_o course_n of_o invitation_n and_o excitation_n any_o thing_n be_v effect_v by_o to_o the_o whole_a sermon_n and_o therefore_o become_v very_o injurious_a judge_n and_o censurer_n of_o the_o sermon_n for_o see_v at_o one_o breath_n all_o can_v be_v deliver_v no_o man_n can_v right_o judge_v of_o sermon_n that_o hear_v not_o the_o whole_a nor_o do_v fond_o observe_v and_o confer_v together_o every_o member_n of_o the_o sermon_n antecedent_n and_o consequent_a beside_o we_o be_v not_o want_v unto_o the_o spirit_n and_o to_o ourselves_o in_o search_v and_o labour_v by_o all_o holy_a mean_n to_o come_v to_o that_o knowledge_n for_o the_o holy_a ghost_n teach_v not_o those_o that_o be_v altogether_o unwilling_a much_o less_o such_o as_o reluct_v and_o strive_v against_o it_o nor_o let_v any_o think_v this_o sweet_a yoke_n of_o the_o lord_n to_o be_v heavy_a in_o spend_v so_o much_o time_n to_o attain_v so_o high_a and_o heavenly_a wisdom_n whereby_o to_o use_v this_o method_n of_o serve_v god_n aright_o for_o if_o usual_o man_n spend_v three_o four_o or_o more_o year_n in_o grammar_n logic_n and_o other_o inferior_a art_n nay_o sometime_o all_o their_o life_n if_o they_o study_v to_o be_v perfect_a in_o it_o how_o much_o better_a shall_v he_o bestow_v his_o whole_a life_n to_o learn_v perfect_o this_o most_o heavenly_a art_n to_o teach_v we_o which_o our_o most_o dear_a and_o heavenly_a master_n jesus_n christ_n come_v down_o from_o heaven_n unto_o we_o and_o with_o so_o much_o labour_n and_o pain_n perform_v it_o therefore_o let_v not_o any_o be_v discourage_v in_o follow_v this_o course_n if_o he_o find_v in_o himself_o many_o disability_n to_o serve_v god_n for_o albeit_o the_o soul_n be_v find_v yet_o it_o be_v so_o bind_v and_o burden_v &_o so_o without_o power_n whereby_o to_o move_v itself_o in_o this_o journey_n to_o god_n as_o the_o whole_a scripture_n declare_v that_o we_o can_v walk_v at_o all_o and_o if_o we_o be_v move_v something_o towards_o it_o yet_o it_o be_v with_o such_o difficulty_n faintness_n and_o fall_n as_o that_o our_o walk_n be_v but_o a_o very_a stand_v still_o if_o not_o rather_o a_o very_a go_v backwards_o but_o when_o we_o shall_v have_v practise_v this_o method_n and_o mean_n of_o serve_v god_n for_o some_o short_a time_n we_o shall_v grow_v to_o such_o strength_n therein_o that_o we_o shall_v do_v thing_n which_o before_o we_o dare_v not_o hope_v for_o and_o shall_v so_o run_v through_o these_o high_a and_o heavenly_a journey_n as_o that_o our_o motion_n may_v rather_o be_v call_v the_o motion_n of_o angel_n fly_v then_o of_o man_n walk_v on_o the_o earth_n and_o it_o be_v much_o to_o be_v forewarn_v that_o no_o man_n make_v any_o pretext_n or_o excuse_n of_o serve_v god_n in_o this_o ensue_a manner_n as_o content_v himself_o with_o the_o ordinary_a manner_n of_o serve_v god_n to_o be_v sufficient_a to_o bring_v he_o to_o salvation_n for_o it_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n even_o our_o sanctification_n 4._o 1._o thess_n 4._o and_o not_o our_o sanctification_n for_o some_o short_a time_n or_o in_o some_o one_o part_n of_o body_n or_o soul_n but_o during_o the_o whole_a life_n and_o throughout_o the_o whole_a spirit_n soul_n and_o body_n see_v then_o that_o the_o lover_n of_o the_o world_n be_v never_o satisfy_v with_o riches_n honour_n and_o pleasure_n but_o still_o wish_v and_o seek_v for_o more_o yea_o god_n command_v the_o contrary_a neither_o let_v we_o be_v content_a with_o present_a grace_n and_o virtue_n but_o labour_n for_o a_o increase_n of_o all_o grace_n and_o of_o that_o crown_n of_o glory_n which_o we_o daily_o expect_v see_v god_n so_o earnest_o desire_v that_o we_o shall_v obtain_v it_o and_o if_o so_o be_v our_o mind_n and_o appetite_n be_v not_o therefore_o set_v
than_o other_o work_n but_o much_o more_o glorious_a and_o precious_a yet_o do_v such_o coldness_n bring_v no_o small_a benefit_n to_o such_o as_o be_v frail_a for_o neither_o do_v the_o greatness_n all_o to_o be_v of_o less_o value_n than_o love_n the_o same_o have_v the_o son_n of_o god_n himself_o teach_v as_o we_o have_v already_o say_v therefore_o it_o be_v manifest_v that_o love_n be_v the_o chief_a of_o all_o work_n and_o duty_n see_v without_o it_o all_o other_o thing_n be_v nothing_o and_o without_o any_o further_a proof_n this_o aught_o to_o suffice_v we_o that_o the_o eternal_a wisdom_n of_o god_n which_o can_v lie_v have_v will_v choose_a and_o command_v we_o to_o do_v this_o before_o all_o other_o thing_n that_o can_v be_v do_v in_o heaven_n or_o earth_n notwithstanding_o 2._o there_o be_v another_o remedy_n more_o singular_a which_o will_v make_v we_o something_o feel_v the_o inexplicable_a greatness_n of_o this_o work_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o the_o mean_n hereof_o be_v that_o we_o unite_v and_o most_o strong_o glue_v our_o will_n to_o that_o will_v which_o be_v of_o infinite_a excellency_n and_o that_o we_o join_v they_o in_o that_o manner_n that_o it_o be_v carry_v to_o nothing_o else_o but_o unto_o that_o which_o that_o infinite_a will_n will_v have_v it_o for_o than_o shall_v our_o will_n be_v of_o much_o value_n when_o our_o own_o will_n joy_n the_o great_a by_o how_o much_o his_o desire_n be_v great_a and_o more_o perfect_o fulfil_v and_o here_o be_v open_v the_o largeness_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o bless_a see_v their_o learn_v or_o to_o the_o fruit_n and_o benefit_n arise_v from_o sermon_n as_o well_o in_o the_o life_n of_o the_o preacher_n as_o of_o the_o hearer_n as_o well_o the_o common_a fruit_n which_o be_v require_v of_o every_o christian_a as_o those_o more_o proper_a require_v of_o every_o man_n in_o his_o office_n and_o call_v 2_o now_o those_o that_o be_v to_o censure_v and_o examine_v the_o action_n and_o life_n both_o of_o preacher_n and_o hearer_n be_v in_o a_o double_a difference_n for_o first_o this_o censure_n judgement_n and_o trial_n of_o man_n life_n be_v to_o be_v make_v by_o man_n second_o when_o they_o fail_v it_o be_v certain_a god_n will_v never_o balk_v nor_o fail_v to_o censure_v and_o that_o sound_o and_o he_o be_v the_o second_o censurer_n first_o man_n be_v the_o censurer_n for_o he_o be_v god_n agent_n to_o bring_v himself_o and_o other_o to_o glory_n now_o man_n do_v censure_n as_o you_o know_v either_o public_o or_o private_o and_o the_o private_a censure_n be_v either_o do_v by_o the_o preacher_n or_o hearer_n the_o preacher_n may_v and_o aught_o to_o censure_n both_o himself_o and_o his_o hearer_n himself_o whether_o he_o preach_v according_a to_o the_o true_a rule_n and_o live_v according_o and_o so_o seal_v the_o doctrine_n that_o he_o preach_v the_o hearer_n he_o censure_v namely_o how_o he_o learn_v and_o live_v according_a to_o that_o he_o learn_v but_o for_o the_o hearer_n his_o censure_n be_v direct_v either_o to_o the_o minister_n to_o himself_o or_o other_o for_o of_o all_o these_o be_v he_o the_o censurer_n to_o inquire_v and_o inform_v himself_o whether_o the_o preacher_n himself_o or_o other_o do_v preach_v hear_v and_o practice_v as_o become_v everyone_v of_o they_o in_o their_o several_a place_n and_o calling_n and_o this_o he_o must_v do_v not_o only_o that_o god_n blessing_n our_o endeavour_n we_o may_v be_v by_o ourselves_o amend_v but_o also_o that_o mutual_a and_o interchangeable_a admonition_n may_v be_v use_v to_o the_o common_a edification_n of_o all_o and_o this_o be_v all_o i_o will_v say_v concern_v this_o private_a censure_n and_o examination_n only_o this_o i_o will_v beg_v of_o god_n that_o he_o will_v give_v such_o a_o measure_n of_o grace_n to_o all_o both_o preacher_n and_o hearer_n that_o they_o may_v have_v more_o and_o more_o regard_n of_o this_o censure_n for_o the_o omission_n the_o church_n and_o ecclesiastical_a person_n or_o to_o the_o politic_a and_o civil_a governor_n the_o ecclesiastical_a censure_n which_o be_v order_v by_o ecclesiastical_a person_n the_o civil_a magistrate_n or_o person_n sometime_o assist_v they_o be_v first_o exercise_v in_o the_o convention_n make_v by_o the_o minister_n of_o every_o several_a church_n second_o in_o classicke_a and_o approve_a synod_n and_o special_a visitation_n where_o the_o censure_n be_v make_v by_o the_o visitor_n and_o minister_n of_o church_n adjoin_v and_o other_o political_a officer_n not_o only_o concern_v the_o hearer_n but_o also_o preacher_n churchwarden_n distributer_n of_o alm_n teacher_n of_o school_n and_o their_o scholar_n three_o in_o general_a visitation_n and_o synod_n by_o ecclesiastical_a person_n alone_o and_o this_o be_v the_o ecclesiastical_a censure_n but_o the_o political_a censure_n be_v that_o which_o be_v do_v by_o political_a person_n as_o first_o in_o the_o convention_n of_o several_a city_n street_n and_o village_n where_o a_o account_n be_v take_v of_o every_o man_n by_o certain_a sworne-man_n how_o they_o lead_v their_o life_n second_o in_o the_o yearly_a convention_n where_o call_v together_o the_o master_n of_o every_o family_n in_o the_o diocese_n a_o inquisition_n be_v make_v by_o the_o ruler_n concern_v the_o life_n of_o those_o sworne-man_n and_o man_n of_o a_o low_a office_n than_o be_v the_o head_n magistrate_n whether_o they_o be_v conformable_a to_o the_o law_n or_o no_o three_o when_o there_o be_v a_o censure_n and_o inquisition_n by_o man_n of_o great_a power_n of_o and_o concern_v all_o officer_n sworne-man_n and_o other_o subject_n and_o hence_o may_v it_o appear_v that_o there_o be_v a_o most_o sweet_a harmony_n and_o proportion_n betwixt_o the_o ecclesiastical_a and_o political_a censure_n and_o governement_n none_o of_o they_o hinder_v one_o another_o but_o rather_o give_v each_o one_o another_o mutual_a help_n yea_o if_o we_o respect_v the_o effect_n of_o both_o these_o censure_n we_o shall_v find_v in_o they_o a_o excellent_a proportion_n for_o those_o that_o be_v find_v in_o this_o censure_n to_o be_v endue_v with_o singular_a gift_n and_o to_o live_v agreeable_o to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o the_o law_n whether_o they_o be_v preacher_n or_o hearer_n be_v not_o only_o for_o the_o promotion_n of_o god_n glory_n and_o the_o public_a and_o private_a salvation_n both_o of_o body_n and_o soul_n to_o be_v commend_v but_o also_o to_o be_v prefer_v to_o great_a office_n and_o place_n but_o see_v of_o those_o preacher_n and_o hearer_n who_o live_v not_o agreeable_o to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o the_o law_n there_o be_v certain_a degree_n they_o must_v be_v deal_v withal_o according_a to_o the_o quality_n of_o the_o offence_n and_o here_o we_o must_v observe_v that_o both_o the_o ecclesiastical_a and_o political_a censure_n have_v their_o certain_a degree_n and_o distinct_a order_n of_o punish_a offender_n wherein_o the_o say_v two_o censure_n do_v most_o sweet_o conspire_v and_o agree_v first_o the_o ecclesiastical_a censure_n in_o their_o convention_n do_v brotherly_a and_o grave_o correct_v admonish_v and_o counsel_v such_o as_o be_v blemish_v with_o any_o crime_n and_o this_o fit_o answer_v to_o the_o increpation_n admonition_n and_o threaten_v that_o the_o politician_n use_n second_o if_o thus_o they_o be_v not_o reform_v but_o that_o they_o run_v into_o more_o grievous_a sin_n they_o be_v suspend_v from_o their_o office_n and_o the_o use_n of_o the_o sacrament_n and_o this_o answer_v the_o imprisonement_n which_o the_o civil_a magistrate_n use_v and_o such_o other_o civil_a amercement_n three_o but_o if_o they_o be_v not_o by_o such_o suspension_n restrain_v but_o froward_o and_o wilful_o persist_v in_o
