and_o to_o make_v amends_o for_o all_o that_o he_o have_v do_v amiss_o this_o be_v his_o carnal_a confidence_n which_o he_o have_v in_o his_o own_o selfe-sufficiency_n and_o here_o many_o thousand_o of_o soul_n perish_v rest_v mere_o in_o the_o husk_n and_o shell_n of_o their_o prayer_n and_o hear_v which_o in_o themselves_o be_v good_a and_o commendable_a but_o they_o be_v no_o mediator_n or_o be_v mere_o impossible_a in_o the_o course_n of_o providence_n nay_o it_o be_v a_o flat_a contradiction_n that_o ever_o grace_n shall_v be_v bestow_v upon_o that_o soul_n or_o that_o ever_o faith_n shall_v come_v there_o for_o faith_n purge_v the_o heart_n wheresoever_o it_o come_v as_o the_o apostle_n say_v 2_o cor._n 5.17_o all_o thing_n be_v become_v new_a all_o old_a thing_n be_v pass_v away_o there_o must_v be_v a_o new_a frame_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o a_o new_a course_n of_o life_n and_o conversation_n now_o for_o the_o soul_n to_o approve_v of_o its_o condition_n and_o yet_o main_a hindrance_n of_o faith_n be_v this_o home_n 2._o let._n to_o seek_v a_o sufficiency_n at_o home_n suppose_v the_o soul_n be_v sensible_a of_o its_o condition_n and_o be_v wound_v and_o break_v and_o can_v be_v content_a to_o have_v ease_n and_o relief_n yet_o the_o soul_n seek_v for_o succour_v from_o its_o own_o sufficiency_n and_o when_o as_o the_o word_n have_v discover_v our_o condition_n unto_o we_o and_o now_o we_o see_v we_o have_v need_n of_o relief_n we_o have_v recourse_n to_o some_o shift_n of_o our_o own_o and_o this_o do_v wonderful_o cross_v and_o oppose_v faith_n nay_o faith_n can_v come_v into_o the_o soul_n till_o the_o lord_n undermine_v this_o corruption_n of_o heart_n this_o be_v a_o fruit_n of_o adam_n rebellion_n for_o when_o the_o lord_n put_v into_o this_o because_o the_o heart_n be_v never_o thorough_o humble_v and_o it_o may_v be_v a_o man_n think_v if_o he_o shall_v now_o pray_v and_o hear_v and_o do_v some_o duty_n than_o all_o will_v be_v another_o and_o to_o see_v all_o sufficiency_n in_o another_o and_o to_o fetch_v all_o from_o another_o to_o have_v supply_n in_o a_o man_n self_n and_o to_o see_v all-sufficiencie_n in_o christ_n these_o two_o can_v stand_v together_o so_o that_o while_o the_o soul_n be_v thus_o possess_v with_o his_o own_o sufficiency_n to_o procure_v ease_n to_o himself_o it_o be_v certain_a this_o stop_v the_o work_n of_o faith_n and_o hinder_v the_o pour_v in_o of_o faith_n into_o the_o soul_n whereby_o you_o shall_v go_v whole_o out_o of_o yourselves_o and_o fetch_v all_o from_o christ_n therefore_o mark_v now_o what_o follow_v as_o contrition_n take_v away_o the_o former_a hindrance_n so_o the_o lord_n have_v this_o work_n of_o humiliation_n whereby_o he_o shut_v back_o this_o bolt_n and_o way_n so_o be_v it_o with_o the_o stream_n of_o a_o man_n affection_n if_o the_o stream_n of_o love_n &_o joy_n be_v let_v out_o upon_o profit_n or_o pleasure_n or_o honour_n you_o can_v have_v &_o spend_v you_o can_v have_v your_o affection_n still_o when_o you_o have_v spend_v they_o upon_o other_o thing_n therefore_o be_v sure_a to_o knock_v they_o off_o from_o the_o world_n that_o you_o may_v give_v they_o whole_o to_o the_o lord_n
