now_o adays_o but_o commodity_n principal_o to_o regard_v what_o a_o people_n they_o be_v and_o how_o affect_v among_o who_o they_o be_v to_o live_v if_o godly_a and_o well_o dispose_v or_o at_o least_o tractable_a and_o gentle_a &_o willing_a to_o be_v teach_v they_o less_a to_o regard_v other_o incommodity_n but_o if_o wicked_a and_o profane_a or_o which_o be_v worse_o stubborn_a froward_a and_o untractable_a then_o less_o to_o regard_v the_o great_a commodity_n &_o certain_o if_o this_o point_n be_v well_o consider_v of_o and_o how_o bitter_a it_o have_v be_v in_o the_o end_n to_o many_o who_o have_v not_o regard_v it_o it_o will_v appear_v that_o this_o be_v the_o best_a encouragement_n or_o discouragement_n the_o great_a commodity_n or_o discommodity_n and_o the_o best_a reason_n either_o to_o win_v a_o man_n to_o a_o place_n or_o to_o draw_v he_o from_o it_o how_o good_a soever_o it_o be_v otherways_o they_o that_o neglect_v this_o duty_n and_o be_v lead_v or_o but_o as_o for_o those_o to_o who_o god_n have_v be_v so_o good_a as_o to_o bestow_v upon_o they_o competent_a live_n and_o a_o willing_a and_o well_o dispose_v people_n let_v they_o think_v themselves_o on_o all_o company_n as_o too_o many_o do_v in_o minister_n our_o church_n to_o the_o great_a scandal_n thereof_o who_o care_v not_o with_o who_o they_o converse_v but_o all_o company_n all_o place_n all_o time_n all_o sport_n &_o recreation_n all_o meeting_n all_o occasion_n be_v one_o with_o they_o but_o alas_o what_o marvel_v though_o such_o man_n keep_v not_o themselves_o unspotted_a of_o the_o world_n but_o prove_v too_o offensive_a to_o their_o call_n for_o see_v the_o best_a man_n can_v live_v with_o the_o best_a people_n but_o they_o shall_v receive_v some_o contagion_n from_o they_o how_o careful_o ought_v ordinary_a minister_n to_o make_v difference_n of_o man_n and_o meeting_n time_n and_o place_n and_o not_o diffuse_o &_o careless_o to_o thrust_v themselves_o into_o all_o so_o do_v shall_v they_o keep_v their_o call_n from_o much_o reproach_n &_o preserve_v themselves_o from_o much_o pollution_n which_o otherwise_o from_o their_o pollute_a people_n they_o shall_v be_v sure_a to_o receive_v and_o here_o people_n be_v to_o be_v admonish_v company_n not_o too_o sharp_o to_o censure_v their_o minister_n though_o he_o be_v not_o so_o sociable_a with_o they_o all_o as_o it_o may_v be_v many_o will_v expect_v for_o it_o concern_v no_o man_n to_o be_v so_o wary_a of_o his_o company_n and_o his_o sport_n as_o it_o do_v the_o minister_n and_o if_o they_o will_v have_v comfort_n and_o honour_n by_o their_o minister_n let_v they_o be_v careful_a into_o what_o recreation_n &_o company_n they_o draw_v or_o desire_v he_o for_o the_o more_o pollute_v the_o people_n be_v among_o who_o he_o live_v the_o more_o careful_a must_v he_o be_v to_o keep_v himself_o clear_a from_o their_o pollution_n last_o here_o people_n be_v teach_v not_o to_o themselves_o be_v too_o sharp_a condemner_n of_o those_o minister_n who_o conversation_n be_v not_o so_o unblameable_a as_o be_v to_o be_v wish_v for_o as_o they_o live_v ill_a general_o the_o cause_n be_v because_o they_o live_v among_o a_o ill_a people_n why_o then_o shall_v they_o so_o much_o condemn_v they_o for_o such_o fault_n as_o wherein_o themselves_o have_v make_v they_o faulty_a i_o say_v not_o but_o our_o church_n and_o state_n and_o ministry_n be_v to_o censure_v such_o man_n and_o it_o be_v good_a they_o do_v it_o more_o but_o it_o be_v against_o all_o reason_n the_o people_n shall_v do_v so_o whereas_o themselves_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o it_o for_o alas_o if_o this_o holy_a prophet_n be_v a_o man_n of_o pollute_a lip_n because_o he_o dwell_v with_o a_o people_n of_o pollute_a lip_n what_o marvel_v then_o though_o ordinary_a minister_n be_v pollute_v with_o the_o common_a and_o universal_a pollution_n of_o their_o people_n people_n therefore_o be_v first_o of_o all_o to_o see_v that_o themselves_o be_v well_o order_v and_o godly_a and_o then_o just_o may_v they_o complain_v if_o the_o life_n of_o their_o minister_n be_v not_o agreeable_a but_o otherwise_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a without_o very_o special_a grace_n of_o god_n but_o that_o a_o minister_n shall_v be_v more_o or_o less_o touch_v with_o those_o crime_n which_o be_v the_o common_a fault_n of_o his_o people_n and_o lamentable_a experience_n daily_o let_v we_o see_v it_o that_o where_o a_o people_n in_o a_o town_n be_v give_v to_o drunkenness_n there_o where_o the_o people_n be_v popish_a there_o the_o minister_n be_v too_o superstitious_a where_o the_o people_n be_v ignorant_a there_o the_o minister_n be_v no_o great_a clerk_n where_o the_o people_n be_v give_v to_o any_o great_a sin_n there_o the_o minister_n general_o be_v not_o clear_a from_o the_o same_o pollution_n and_o it_o be_v see_v that_o the_o best_a minister_n &_o most_o careful_a of_o all_o do_v complain_v bitter_o of_o the_o pollution_n of_o their_o people_n for_o that_o how_o soever_o it_o may_v be_v they_o escape_v partake_v with_o their_o sin_n yet_o they_o always_o find_v at_o the_o least_o a_o dull_n &_o decay_v of_o god_n grace_n in_o themselves_o where_o the_o people_n be_v untoward_a and_o disobedient_a if_o therefore_o a_o minister_n live_v with_o such_o a_o people_n his_o case_n be_v pitiful_a and_o dangerous_a for_o he_o walk_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o net_n and_o snare_n which_o be_v lay_v for_o he_o on_o every_o side_n and_o if_o he_o escape_v they_o i_o mean_v if_o he_o keep_v himself_o unspotted_a in_o the_o midst_n of_o a_o spot_a &_o pollute_a people_n his_o care_n and_o his_o conscience_n be_v worthy_a both_o admiration_n and_o imitation_n and_o himself_o be_v worthy_a double_a honour_n as_o be_v both_o a_o zealous_a minister_n and_o a_o holy_a man_n but_o he_o who_o god_n have_v bless_v with_o a_o good_a deprive_v and_o tractable_a people_n and_o well_o affect_v to_o the_o word_n and_o yet_o himself_o live_v loose_o &_o scandalous_o among_o they_o a_o heavy_a burden_n and_o a_o hard_a account_n lie_v on_o that_o minister_n and_o no_o rebuke_n be_v too_o rough_a no_o punishment_n too_o great_a no_o censure_n too_o sharp_a for_o he_o and_o if_o this_o holy_a prophet_n fear_v so_o much_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n for_o his_o small_a pollution_n and_o yet_o live_v among_o so_o wicked_a and_o pollute_v a_o people_n than_o what_o heaviness_n and_o horror_n shall_v be_v heap_v on_o his_o soul_n who_o care_v not_o with_o how_o foul_a pollution_n his_o life_n be_v stain_v and_o yet_o live_v among_o a_o godly_a &_o well_o dispose_v people_n and_o thus_o we_o have_v
encouragement_n for_o all_o pastor_n and_o minister_n of_o god_n church_n to_o labour_v painful_o &_o faithful_o in_o their_o place_n for_o the_o goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n will_v never_o fail_v 6._o church_n of_o the_o jew_n never_o but_o then_o when_o there_o be_v no_o king_n in_o israel_n and_o every_o one_o do_v that_o which_o be_v good_a in_o his_o own_o eye_n if_o therefore_o there_o be_v any_o in_o our_o church_n and_o in_o christian_n nation_n which_o go_v up_o and_o down_o and_o offer_v their_o service_n at_o such_o rate_n it_o be_v much_o more_o miserable_a 6._o see_v now_o never_o so_o fast_o devour_v up_o learning_n but_o to_o be_v a_o good_a minister_n be_v that_o that_o make_v a_o man_n one_o of_o a_o thousand_o in_o the_o last_o place_n hearer_n be_v here_o teach_v their_o duty_n first_o to_o respect_v with_o reverence_n doctrine_n the_o person_n and_o to_o receive_v with_o reverence_n the_o message_n of_o every_o true_a messenger_n see_v it_o be_v so_o rare_a a_o thing_n to_o find_v a_o true_a minister_n for_o as_o nothing_o be_v more_o vile_a or_o base_a than_o a_o evil_a &_o lewd_a minister_n who_o christ_n compare_v to_o salt_n which_o have_v lose_v for_o his_o duty_n be_v to_o work_v in_o his_o people_n a_o conscience_n not_o of_o great_a sin_n only_o but_o even_o of_o all_o but_o how_o can_v he_o do_v that_o in_o they_o if_o he_o have_v not_o first_o of_o all_o do_v it_o in_o himself_o hence_o it_o be_v therefore_o that_o godly_a minister_n find_v fault_n with_o themselves_o can_v when_o other_o man_n can_v and_o cry_v out_o against_o prophet_n his_o duty_n be_v to_o use_v his_o tongue_n the_o practice_n of_o his_o call_n consist_v tongue_n in_o the_o use_n of_o his_o tongue_n for_o a_o minister_n be_v a_o interpeter_n as_o he_o be_v call_v job_n 33._o 23._o that_o be_v the_o people_n to_o god_n by_o prayer_n and_o god_n to_o the_o people_n by_o preach_v he_o be_v god_n mouth_n and_o the_o people_n mouth_n so_o that_o the_o tongue_n of_o a_o minister_n be_v that_o part_n of_o his_o body_n which_o be_v to_o be_v use_v as_o a_o principal_a instrument_n of_o god_n glory_n and_o more_o to_o the_o set_v forth_o of_o his_o honour_n then_o any_o other_o now_o every_o man_n be_v to_o be_v try_v what_o he_o be_v by_o his_o call_n rather_o than_o by_o any_o other_o accidental_a or_o collateral_a course_n therefore_o the_o honour_n or_o dishonour_n of_o a_o minister_n be_v the_o use_n or_o the_o abuse_n of_o his_o tongue_n and_o his_o comfort_n or_o discomfort_n be_v the_o well_o use_v or_o not_o use_v of_o it_o the_o prophet_n therefore_o here_o affright_v at_o god_n prefence_n conscience_n and_o therefore_o retire_v into_o himself_o present_o his_o conscience_n check_n he_o for_o his_o most_o proper_a sin_n nam_o for_o some_o fault_n or_o negligence_n in_o his_o ministry_n which_o be_v the_o proper_a sin_n of_o that_o call_n and_o therefore_o be_v it_o that_o he_o exclaim_v against_o the_o pollution_n of_o holy_a prophet_n a_o man_n true_o justify_v &_o extraordinary_o sanctify_v yet_o dare_v not_o stand_v before_o god_n in_o this_o little_a appearance_n of_o his_o glory_n notwithstanding_o all_o his_o zeal_n and_o courage_n and_o conscience_n and_o pain_n and_o suffering_n in_o his_o function_n but_o be_v cast_v down_o so_o far_o from_o a_o conceit_n of_o his_o own_o worth_n that_o he_o cry_v out_o woe_n be_v i_o i_o be_o undo_v how_o then_o can_v we_o who_o be_v no_o better_o but_o much_o worse_a than_o he_o stand_v before_o god_n in_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n in_o the_o great_a appear_v of_o his_o infinite_a justice_n and_o glory_n rather_o doubtless_o as_o here_o the_o small_a pollution_n of_o his_o lip_n and_o negligence_n in_o his_o call_n drive_v he_o out_o of_o all_o conceit_n of_o merit_n when_o once_o he_o come_v into_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n so_o the_o due_a consideration_n of_o our_o so_o many_o and_o foul_a pollution_n above_o he_o shall_v beat_v down_o all_o proud_a conceit_n of_o our_o own_o goodness_n when_o we_o appear_v before_o god._n it_o be_v therefore_o to_o be_v fear_v that_o the_o papist_n who_o thus_o magnify_v their_o own_o merit_n do_v seldom_o or_o never_o enter_v into_o earnest_a consideration_n of_o their_o own_o infirmity_n do_v seldom_o persent_a themselves_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n majesty_n for_o if_o they_o do_v then_o doubtless_o the_o least_o sight_n of_o their_o least_o pollution_n will_v make_v they_o far_o from_o ever_o think_v of_o their_o own_o merit_n supererogation_n they_o also_o tell_v we_o of_o work_n of_o supererogation_n but_o it_o seem_v here_o this_o holy_a prophet_n have_v none_o of_o they_o and_o they_o teach_v a_o man_n may_v in_o this_o life_n life_n perfect_o fulfil_v the_o law_n but_o who_o can_v do_v it_o iâ—_n not_o minister_n and_o what_o minister_n if_o not_o extraordinary_a prophet_n and_o yet_o isaiah_n the_o first_o and_o chief_a of_o they_o exclaim_v here_o in_o pitiful_a manner_n against_o his_o pollution_n doubtless_o if_o the_o papist_n will_v cease_v flatter_v themselves_o and_o not_o examine_v their_o conscience_n by_o their_o own_o please_a corruption_n but_o present_v themselves_o in_o the_o face_n and_o presence_n of_o god_n majesty_n they_o will_v be_v far_o from_o these_o conceit_n all_o in_o the_o next_o place_n whereas_o the_o prophet_n complain_v of_o the_o pollution_n of_o his_o lip_n as_o of_o the_o peculiar_a sin_n of_o his_o place_n minister_n be_v here_o teach_v to_o avoid_v that_o sin_n above_o all_o other_o and_o to_o labour_v in_o that_o duty_n above_o any_o other_o for_o the_o do_n of_o it_o be_v his_o most_o comfort_n the_o want_n of_o it_o be_v his_o most_o vexation_n his_o tongue_n be_v the_o instrument_n give_v he_o to_o honour_n god_n if_o he_o use_v it_o well_o it_o yield_v he_o comfort_n more_o than_o any_o other_o duty_n but_o if_o he_o use_v not_o or_o abuse_v his_o tongue_n the_o pollution_n of_o his_o lip_n will_v be_v the_o heavy_a burden_n of_o all_o they_o therefore_o be_v great_o deceive_v who_o think_v a_o minister_n to_o discharge_v sufficient_o want_n his_o duty_n though_o he_o preach_v not_o if_o he_o keep_v good_a hospitality_n and_o make_v peace_n among_o his_o neighbour_n and_o perform_v other_o work_n of_o charatie_n and_o good_a life_n for_o if_o a_o minister_n have_v not_o this_o virtue_n he_o have_v none_o if_o he_o preach_v not_o if_o he_o abuse_v his_o lip_n or_o if_o he_o open_v they_o not_o he_o have_v no_o conscience_n nor_o can_v have_v any_o comfort_n for_o that_o be_v the_o principal_a duty_n of_o a_o minister_n though_o all_o the_o other_o be_v require_v to_o make_v he_o complete_a the_o want_n of_o they_o may_v condemn_v he_o before_o man_n but_o it_o be_v the_o pollution_n of_o his_o lip_n which_o present_o check_n he_o before_o god_n as_o we_o see_v here_o in_o this_o holy_a prophet_n the_o conclusion_n than_o be_v to_o every_o minister_n that_o if_o he_o have_v all_o the_o virtue_n and_o good_a property_n that_o can_v commend_v a_o man_n in_o the_o world_n yet_o if_o his_o lip_n be_v pollute_v either_o by_o not_o preach_v or_o by_o negligent_a idle_a or_o careless_a preach_n this_o pollution_n will_v so_o stain_v his_o conscience_n and_o so_o burden_n he_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n that_o the_o time_n will_v come_v notwithstanding_o all_o his_o other_o good_a quality_n he_o will_v cry_v out_o in_o far_o more_o pitiful_a manner_n they_o here_o the_o prophet_n do_v woe_n be_v 〈◊〉_d i_o be_o undoâ—â—_n because_o i_o be_o a_o â—an_v of_o pollute_a lip_n it_o follow_v and_o i_o dwell_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o a_o people_n of_o pollute_a pollution_n lip_n the_o prophet_n not_o only_o complain_v of_o his_o own_o pollution_n but_o of_o his_o people_n own_o also_o among_o who_o he_o live_v and_o this_o he_o do_v for_o these_o cause_n first_o to_o teach_v we_o that_o it_o be_v the_o minister_n duty_n to_o confess_v not_o only_o his_o own_o sin_n but_o the_o sin_n of_o his_o people_n &_o to_o complain_v of_o they_o to_o god_n for_o as_o he_o be_v the_o people_n interpretar_n to_o god_n he_o must_v not_o think_v it_o enough_o to_o put_v up_o their_o petition_n to_o unfold_v their_o want_n &_o crave_v relief_n for_o they_o at_o god_n hand_n but_o he_o must_v further_o take_v knowledge_n of_o the_o sin_n of_o his_o people_n and_o make_v both_o public_a and_o private_a confession_n of_o they_o to_o god_n and_o the_o more_o particular_o he_o can_v do_v this_o the_o better_a and_o this_o he_o be_v to_o do_v both_o sin_n for_o the_o people_n good_a and_o for_o his_o own_o also_o because_o it_o can_v be_v but_o the_o sin_n of_o his_o people_n be_v in_o some_o sort_n he_o for_o this_o be_v the_o peculiar_a danger_n of_o the_o magistrate_n and_o minister_n â—â—â—ling_v that_o general_o the_o sin_n of_o their_o people_n be_v they_o i_o mean_v that_o they_o be_v accessary_a to_o the_o sin_n of_o their_o people_n either_o by_o provoke_v they_o by_o their_o evil_a example_n or_o by_o not_o reprove_v or_o not_o hinder_v or_o suffer_v or_o wink_v or_o cover_v &_o conceal_v or_o not_o punish_v they_o or_o not_o careful_o enough_o use_v mean_n to_o prevent_v they_o by_o all_o which_o mean_n and_o many_o more_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o the_o people_n sin_n be_v the_o minister_n by_o communication_n so_o that_o as_o well_o for_o his_o own_o sake_n as_o they_o he_o be_v to_o confess_v to_o god_n their_o sin_n as_o well_o as_o his_o own_o now_o if_o a_o minister_n must_v
confess_v his_o people_n sin_n than_o it_o follow_v confequent_o that_o he_o must_v know_v they_o and_o take_v notice_n of_o they_o for_o else_o he_o sin_n can_v confess_v they_o and_o this_o be_v one_o cause_n why_o the_o holy_a ghost_n command_v a_o pastor_n to_o know_v his_o flock_n he_o must_v not_o only_o have_v a_o flock_n and_o know_v which_o be_v his_o flock_n or_o have_v a_o general_a 23._o â—ye_z over_o it_o out_o he_o must_v have_v a_o particular_a and_o 〈◊〉_d knowledge_n of_o the_o state_n of_o it_o â—nd_v the_o more_o particular_a the_o better_o and_o if_o the_o minister_n may_v the_o better_a know_v they_o and_o their_o state_n and_o certain_o if_o it_o be_v a_o minister_n duty_n to_o confess_v to_o god_n the_o pollution_n of_o his_o people_n then_o wilful_a and_o careless_a nonresidency_n and_o all_o absence_n without_o just_a and_o conscionable_a cause_n must_v needs_o be_v a_o foul_a &_o fearful_a sin_n for_o how_o can_v isayah_n have_v confess_v that_o his_o people_n be_v a_o people_n of_o pollute_a lip_n but_o that_o he_o dwell_v among_o they_o nay_o say_v the_o prophet_n he_o dwell_v in_o the_o midst_n among_o they_o indeed_o well_o may_v he_o know_v and_o confess_v his_o people_n pollution_n that_o dwell_v in_o the_o midst_n among_o they_o minister_n again_o if_o the_o minister_n be_v to_o confess_v his_o people_n sin_n and_o therefore_o must_v needs_o know_v they_o than_o it_o follow_v also_o that_o they_o must_v discover_v &_o confess_v they_o unto_o he_o or_o else_o 〈◊〉_d not_o possible_a he_o shall_v perfect_o knoâ—e_v their_o estate_n the_o want_n of_o this_o be_v a_o great_a fault_n in_o our_o church_n for_o how_o ever_o we_o condemn_v auricular_a confession_n as_o a_o very_a policy_n in_o the_o deviser_n and_o as_o a_o find_v it_o and_o to_o partake_v with_o it_o regeneration_n qualifi_v &_o abate_v this_o corruption_n but_o take_v it_o not_o away_o perfect_o in_o this_o life_n whereby_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o a_o minister_n live_v among_o evil_a people_n can_v but_o be_v somewhat_o stain_v with_o their_o pollution_n of_o what_o sort_n soever_o they_o be_v insomuch_o as_o it_o be_v often_o see_v that_o one_o know_v to_o be_v otherwise_o dispose_v of_o himself_o be_v find_v to_o be_v dispose_v to_o this_o or_o that_o evil_a by_o live_v among_o a_o people_n so_o dispose_v and_o again_o that_o a_o minister_n in_o such_o a_o place_n and_o among_o such_o people_n free_a from_o such_o and_o such_o sin_n remove_v to_o another_o place_n be_v there_o find_v more_o or_o less_o taint_v with_o they_o because_o they_o abound_v among_o the_o people_n and_o yet_o further_o that_o a_o minister_n know_v to_o be_v faithful_a painful_a and_o zealous_a &_o come_v to_o a_o disobedient_a stubborn_a froward_a or_o profane_a &_o dissolute_a people_n his_o faith_n be_v weaken_v double_a his_o zeal_n &_o courage_n abate_v god_n grace_n in_o he_o dull_v &_o much_o decay_a godly_a minister_n do_v daily_o complain_v hereof_o and_o experience_n every_o where_o show_v it_o too_o true_a out_o of_o this_o we_o may_v learn_v something_o both_o for_o our_o instruction_n and_o for_o our_o conversation_n for_o our_o instruction_n it_o here_o appear_v be_v how_o wicked_a and_o wretched_a the_o corruption_n of_o our_o nature_n be_v which_o can_v but_o receive_v some_o contagion_n from_o the_o pollution_n of_o those_o with_o who_o we_o live_v for_o this_o be_v so_o not_o only_o in_o they_o who_o carry_v a_o loose_a hand_n over_o themselves_o but_o even_o in_o such_o as_o look_v most_o narrow_o unto_o their_o step_n as_o we_o see_v here_o in_o this_o holy_a prophet_n who_o be_v a_o man_n of_o more_o than_o ordinary_a sanctification_n how_o little_a cause_n therefore_o have_v any_o man_n to_o extol_v nature_n and_o how_o much_o less_o cause_n the_o schoolman_n and_o some_o other_o papist_n to_o give_v the_o least_o commendation_n to_o our_o pure_a natural_n for_o if_o nature_n rectify_v by_o grace_n be_v so_o hardly_o keep_v within_o compass_n alas_o how_o outrageous_a &_o perverse_a be_v it_o when_o it_o reign_v without_o controlment_n and_o for_o our_o further_a body_n rest_v not_o in_o the_o place_n or_o party_n poison_v but_o close_o creep_v &_o diffuse_v itself_o into_o every_o part_n and_o member_n of_o the_o whole_a it_o creep_v from_o man_n to_o man_n yea_o from_o a_o evil_a man_n to_o a_o good_a from_o the_o worst_a man_n to_o the_o best_a from_o profane_a man_n to_o godly_a minister_n and_o as_o from_o public_a person_n as_o magistrate_n and_o minister_n it_o descend_v minister_n visible_o and_o the_o example_n of_o their_o evil_a life_n be_v palpable_o scandalous_a so_o from_o the_o people_n to_o the_o magistrate_n or_o minister_n it_o creep_v close_o &_o ascend_v in_o more_o secret_a and_o insensible_a manner_n yet_o in_o the_o effect_n it_o be_v too_o sensible_a for_o it_o be_v always_o see_v that_o they_o be_v something_o touch_v with_o their_o people_n pollution_n sin_n be_v not_o only_o as_o a_o poison_n spread_v from_o the_o heart_n to_o all_o part_n from_o the_o minister_n to_o the_o people_n but_o as_o a_o gangreve_v if_o it_o begin_v in_o the_o foot_n will_v without_o speedy_a prevention_n spread_v privy_o to_o the_o hart_n so_o sin_n show_v itself_o even_o from_o the_o beginning_n people_n to_o the_o minister_n so_o great_a cause_n be_v there_o for_o all_o man_n to_o stop_v sin_n in_o the_o beginning_n to_o break_v it_o in_o the_o egg_n to_o give_v water_n no_o passage_n no_o not_o a_o little_a for_o let_v this_o gangreve_v begin_v at_o the_o foot_n it_o will_v not_o rest_v till_o it_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n for_o our_o conversation_n we_o be_v here_o conversation_n teach_v first_o if_o a_o minister_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o corruption_n of_o his_o own_o nature_n and_o the_o creep_a nature_n of_o sin_n be_v in_o such_o danger_n to_o be_v stain_v with_o the_o people_n pollution_n then_o let_v all_o minister_n desire_v and_o use_v all_o good_a mean_n to_o dwell_v people_n with_o a_o people_n as_o little_o pollute_v as_o may_v be_v otherwise_o let_v he_o assure_v himself_o to_o be_v pollute_v with_o they_o which_o be_v both_o a_o great_a discomfort_n to_o his_o own_o conscience_n as_o here_o it_o be_v to_o the_o prophet_n and_o disgrace_n to_o his_o profession_n for_o if_o it_o be_v a_o those_o that_o be_v their_o fellow_n be_v unfaithful_a and_o it_o shall_v further_o teach_v they_o life_n to_o adorn_v their_o call_v with_o a_o holy_a life_n for_o as_o sin_n be_v that_o that_o turn_v their_o study_n to_o that_o end_n for_o no_o man_n in_o no_o calling_n have_v so_o special_a attendance_n and_o assistance_n of_o god_n angel_n as_o godly_a minister_n have_v at_o least_o if_o it_o work_v not_o this_o in_o the_o world_n yet_o it_o may_v yield_v comfort_n &_o contentment_n to_o all_o faithful_a minister_n in_o their_o painful_a call_n but_o let_v we_o see_v how_o the_o angel_n perform_v his_o service_n to_o the_o prophet_n not_o unwilling_o not_o linger_o but_o speedy_o so_o say_v the_o text._n he_o fly_v which_o be_v not_o so_o to_o be_v understand_v fly_v as_o though_o the_o angel_n have_v wing_n for_o they_o have_v no_o corporal_a nor_o sensible_a body_n but_o spiritual_a and_o insensible_a substance_n the_o action_n whereof_o be_v perform_v with_o such_o nimbleness_n and_o agility_n as_o willing_o can_v not_o fall_v within_o the_o compass_n of_o outward_a sense_n but_o the_o phrase_n be_v use_v for_o our_o capacity_n to_o show_v how_o ready_o and_o say_v that_o man_n do_v fly_v about_o his_o business_n which_o do_v it_o quick_o and_o diligent_o so_o here_o the_o holy_a ghost_n set_v down_o the_o willingness_n and_o quickness_n of_o the_o angel_n to_o comfort_v this_o holy_a prophet_n and_o to_o do_v the_o will_n of_o god_n where_o we_o learn_v first_o what_o excellent_a servant_n of_o god_n be_v the_o holy_a angel_n be_v which_o so_o ready_o willing_o and_o speedy_o execute_v the_o will_n of_o their_o lord_n this_o must_v teach_v all_o god_n servant_n to_o do_v the_o like_a and_o to_o imitate_v they_o in_o this_o excellent_a obedience_n and_o the_o rather_o because_o we_o pray_v daily_o to_o god_n thy_o will_v be_v do_v in_o earth_n as_o it_o be_v in_o heaven_n in_o earth_n of_o we_o as_o it_o be_v in_o heaven_n petition_n of_o the_o holy_a angel_n but_o they_o do_v it_o most_o cheerful_o and_o without_o all_o linger_a therefore_o so_o ought_v we_o magistrate_n in_o their_o place_n and_o minister_n in_o place_n they_o and_o every_o man_n in_o his_o function_n be_v to_o apply_v this_o to_o himself_o and_o to_o be_v stir_v up_o thereby_o to_o a_o cheerfulness_n &_o quickness_n in_o their_o duty_n for_o therein_o they_o resemble_v the_o bless_a angel_n &_o then_o their_o deode_n accord_v witty_a their_o prayer_n but_o contrariwise_o he_o that_o do_v his_o duty_n unwilling_o and_o unreadly_a be_v like_o the_o devil_n then_o their_o subject_n and_o if_o minister_n love_v their_o people_n they_o will_v forget_v their_o own_o dignity_n which_o ofttimes_o they_o may_v stand_v upon_o and_o will_v make_v themselves_o even_o servant_n to_o all_o that_o they_o may_v win_v some_o and_o see_v angel_n do_v fly_v so_o fast_o to_o must_v give_v help_n and_o comfort_n to_o good_a minister_n this_o must_v teach_v they_o further_o faithful_a first_o every_o one_o to_o labour_v to_o be_v a_o good_a minister_n for_o then_o be_v they_o sure_a of_o the_o love_n of_o angel_n and_o then_o most_o willing_o do_v the_o angel_n any_o service_n to_o they_o again_o let_v it_o teach_v they_o to_o fly_v as_o fast_o to_o the_o discharge_n of_o their_o duty_n to_o god_n painful_a church_n as_o the_o angel_n fly_v to_o do_v they_o service_n so_o shall_v god_n angel_n think_v their_o diligence_n and_o careful_a service_n well_o bestow_v upon_o they_o last_o this_o diligence_n of_o the_o angel_n &_o their_o willingness_n proceed_v from_o love_n must_v stir_v up_o all_o christian_n to_o perform_v all_o duty_n of_o godliness_n to_o god_n glory_n &_o of_o love_n unto_o his_o church_n with_o alacrity_n and_o accomplishment_n of_o his_o wrath_n and_o a_o apprehension_n and_o feel_n of_o that_o wrath_n seize_v on_o body_n soul_n and_o conscience_n the_o first_o curse_n be_v a_o spiritual_a death_n the_o death_n of_o the_o soul_n the_o second_o a_o temporary_a death_n the_o death_n of_o the_o body_n the_o three_o be_v a_o eternal_a death_n a_o death_n both_o of_o soul_n and_o body_n together_o and_o for_o ever_o this_o eternal_a death_n be_v the_o curse_n of_o all_o curse_n the_o misery_n of_o all_o misery_n and_o torment_v of_o all_o torment_n and_o i_o show_v it_o thus_o often_o when_o thy_o tooth_n ach_v and_o sometime_o when_o thy_o head_n ach_v or_o in_o the_o pain_n of_o the_o stone_n or_o colic_n thou_o will_v give_v all_o that_o thou_o have_v in_o the_o world_n to_o be_v ease_v of_o that_o pain_n nay_o in_o the_o exstremitie_n of_o some_o fit_n many_o will_v wish_v themselves_o even_o out_o of_o the_o world_n now_o if_o the_o pain_n of_o one_o tooth_n can_v so_o far_o distemper_v mind_n and_o body_n that_o it_o can_v be_v releive_v with_o all_o the_o pleasure_n of_o this_o life_n o_o then_o what_o a_o torment_n shall_v that_o be_v when_o not_o one_o kind_a of_o pain_n but_o the_o whole_a viol_n of_o god_n wrath_n shall_v be_v pour_v not_o on_o one_o member_n but_o on_o the_o whole_a soul_n body_n and_o conscience_n and_o that_o not_o for_o a_o time_n under_o hope_n of_o better_a but_o eternal_o without_o hope_n of_o release_n and_o that_o not_o in_o this_o world_n where_o there_o be_v comfort_n help_n and_o remedy_n but_o in_o that_o ugly_a and_o darksome_a place_n of_o torment_n and_o that_o not_o among_o live_a man_n which_o may_v mitigate_v thy_o pain_n or_o else_o bemoan_v thou_o and_o beway_o leit_a with_o thou_o but_o with_o the_o devil_n and_o damn_a spirit_n which_o will_v now_o laugh_v at_o thy_o destruction_n and_o solace_v themselves_o in_o this_o thy_o misery_n and_o will_v rejoice_v as_o thou_o do_v serve_v they_o in_o earth_n so_o now_o in_o hell_n to_o be_v thy_o torment_n it_o may_v be_v therefore_o by_o the_o way_n good_a warning_n and_o wisdom_n to_o we_o all_o when_o we_o feel_v the_o extremity_n of_o some_o bodily_a pain_n to_o consider_v with_o ourselves_o and_o say_v o_o then_o what_o shall_v be_v my_o misery_n and_o torment_n if_o i_o repent_v not_o when_o not_o one_o member_n but_o soul_n body_n and_o conscience_n every_o man_n by_o nature_n till_o he_o repent_v a_o threefold_a guiltiness_n first_o a_o guiltiness_n of_o adam_n sin_n second_o the_o taint_n of_o original_n and_o universal_a corruption_n three_o a_o pollution_n by_o many_o outrageous_a actual_a sin_n in_o the_o first_o of_o these_o every_o man_n be_v equal_o guilty_a in_o the_o second_o every_o man_n be_v equal_o corrupt_a but_o in_o the_o three_o every_o one_o keep_v that_o compass_n within_o which_o the_o lord_n will_v keep_v they_o by_o his_o limit_v power_n now_o as_o in_o our_o guiltiness_n of_o adam_n sin_n sin_n have_v his_o beginning_n in_o original_a sin_n his_o continuance_n in_o actual_a sin_n his_o perfection_n so_o answerable_a hereunto_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n which_o always_o stand_v opposite_a to_o sin_n be_v begin_v in_o leave_v we_o by_o nature_n to_o the_o slavery_n of_o satan_n be_v continue_v by_o death_n and_o be_v accomplish_v in_o damnation_n and_o now_o these_o three_o rule_n i_o commend_v to_o the_o careful_a &_o christian_a consideration_n of_o you_o all_o certify_v you_o from_o god_n that_o as_o you_o can_v never_o be_v save_v unless_o you_o repent_v nor_o repent_v unless_o you_o search_v yourselves_o as_o here_o the_o prophet_n bid_v death_n so_o that_o you_o can_v never_o search_v yourselves_o aright_o till_o you_o be_v persuade_v and_o resolve_v of_o these_o three_o rule_n and_o of_o the_o truth_n of_o they_o all_o even_o in_o your_o heart_n and_o conscience_n namely_o first_o that_o thou_o be_v guilty_a of_o adam_n sin_n second_o that_o thou_o be_v prone_a by_o nature_n to_o all_o evil_a in_o the_o world_n three_o that_o for_o these_o thou_o be_v subject_a to_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o to_o all_o the_o curse_n of_o his_o wrath_n but_o when_o thou_o be_v in_o heart_n &_o conscience_n resolve_v that_o these_o be_v true_a than_o thou_o be_v a_o fit_a scholar_n for_o this_o lesson_n of_o the_o prophet_n search_v thyself_o for_o when_o thou_o go_v thus_o prepare_v unto_o this_o search_n and_o esteem_v of_o thyself_o as_o these_o three_o rule_n have_v describe_v thou_o then_o if_o thou_o search_v into_o thyself_o thou_o will_v find_v thyself_o and_o thy_o estate_n to_o be_v such_o as_o will_v cause_v thou_o to_o repent_v return_n and_o take_v a_o new_a course_n therefore_o what_o the_o prophet_n say_v to_o those_o jew_n i_o say_v unto_o you_o also_o my_o brethren_n of_o this_o realm_n of_o england_n who_o be_v here_o now_o gather_v together_o out_o of_o so_o many_o country_n &_o quarter_n of_o this_o realm_n yea_o in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o same_o god_n i_o cry_v unto_o you_o search_v o_o search_v yourselves_o and_o think_v it_o not_o a_o matter_n indifferent_a to_o do_v or_o not_o to_o do_v it_o but_o know_v it_o that_o god_n command_v you_o as_o ever_o you_o will_v come_v to_o salvation_n search_v yourselves_o and_o the_o rather_o because_o by_o these_o three_o rule_n you_o see_v how_o much_o chaff_n of_o corruption_n be_v in_o your_o nature_n and_o what_o need_n therefore_o it_o have_v to_o be_v search_v into_o and_o fan_v by_o repentance_n be_v well_o assure_v thou_o man_n whatsoever_o thou_o be_v there_o be_v so_o much_o chaff_n in_o thou_o that_o if_o thou_o search_v not_o and_o fan_v it_o not_o out_o thou_o will_v prove_v nothing_o but_o chaff_n at_o the_o last_o day_n and_o so_o be_v blow_v away_o with_o the_o wind_n of_o god_n justice_n into_o hell_n take_v hold_v therefore_o of_o this_o exhortation_n and_o defer_v it_o not_o thou_o will_v not_o suffer_v thy_o wheat_n to_o lie_v too_o long_o in_o the_o man_n will_v build_v a_o strong_a house_n upon_o any_o earth_n but_o will_v first_o search_v it_o lest_o it_o prove_v sandie_n &_o so_o overthrow_v all_o so_o a_o wise_a christian_a will_v not_o build_v his_o salvation_n upon_o fancy_n &_o conceit_n and_o natural_a presumption_n but_o will_v search_v and_o look_v into_o his_o heart_n and_o find_v these_o to_o be_v sandy_a and_o rot_a and_o of_o thy_o soul_n and_o therefore_o questionless_a to_o speak_v one_o word_n to_o touch_v our_o common_a professor_n in_o the_o very_a sore_n of_o their_o soul_n all_o knowledge_n that_o be_v store_v up_o in_o these_o impure_a and_o unsearched_a heart_n be_v even_o as_o wheat_n lay_v up_o in_o the_o chaff_n which_o be_v a_o thousand_o to_o one_o sure_a to_o be_v eat_v up_o by_o the_o chaff_n so_o that_o when_o the_o winnow_a time_n of_o trial_n and_o persecution_n come_v i_o fear_v that_o such_o man_n will_v for_o all_o their_o knowledge_n shrink_v aside_o and_o betray_v the_o truth_n there_o knowledge_n then_o prove_v no_o better_a than_o chaff_n because_o it_o be_v lay_v up_o in_o a_o unholy_a heart_n if_o therefore_o thou_o will_v stand_v and_o endure_v when_o popery_n or_o persecution_n or_o temptation_n come_v if_o thou_o will_v abide_v the_o fury_n of_o the_o fan_n of_o temptation_n now_o then_o exercise_v thy_o heart_n with_o the_o fan_n of_o god_n law_n search_v and_o ransack_v it_o purge_v out_o the_o chaff_n of_o corruption_n and_o store_n up_o knowledge_n in_o a_o holy_a heart_n and_o a_o good_a conscience_n and_o that_o will_v abide_v the_o violence_n of_o all_o temptation_n yea_o when_o god_n suffer_v the_o devil_n to_o do_v with_o we_o as_o he_o do_v with_o peter_n to_o winnow_v we_o like_o wheat_n to_o sift_v and_o try_v we_o as_o he_o do_v job_n with_o the_o furious_a wind_n of_o all_o his_o malice_n this_o knowledge_n will_v prove_v wheat_n that_o will_v abide_v the_o wind_n and_o gold_n that_o will_v abide_v the_o fire_n thus_o glorious_a will_v it_o be_v in_o the_o end_n if_o we_o follow_v this_o holy_a prophet_n council_n and_o search_v our_o heart_n and_o thus_o much_o for_o the_o first_o point_n namely_o the_o duty_n of_o search_v here_o command_v in_o which_o we_o have_v stay_v the_o long_a because_o it_o be_v the_o foundation_n of_o all_o the_o rest_n and_o this_o be_v well_o lay_v the_o whole_a building_n will_v go_v up_o the_o fast_a now_o we_o come_v to_o the_o second_o general_a point_n here_o lay_v down_o that_o be_v who_o must_v we_o search_v the_o prophet_n answer_v yourselves_o not_o other_o man_n but_o yourselves_o this_o search_n so_o urge_v and_o enforce_v by_o the_o prophet_n must_v not_o be_v of_o other_o man_n heart_n and_o life_n but_o of_o our_o own_o our_o own_o be_v our_o charge_n and_o not_o other_o man_n and_o therein_o be_v the_o say_n true_a which_o else_o be_v most_o false_a every_o man_n for_o himself_o for_o as_o every_o soul_n must_v be_v save_v by_o itself_o so_o must_v it_o believe_v repent_v and_o search_v itself_o the_o duty_n therefore_o here_o command_v be_v for_o every_o man_n that_o will_v have_v his_o soul_n to_o be_v save_v to_o search_v it_o and_o reform_v it_o and_o leave_v other_o to_o be_v search_v by_o themselves_o here_o the_o holy_a ghost_n meet_v with_o the_o common_a corruption_n of_o this_o world_n and_o that_o be_v that_o man_n way_n he_o know_v that_o by_o himself_o which_o he_o know_v not_o by_o any_o man_n in_o the_o world_n beside_o so_o then_o we_o must_v search_v not_o other_o man_n but_o ourselves_o our_o own_o heaven_n to_o any_o creature_n but_o to_o minister_n they_o therefore_o be_v the_o high_a commissioner_n of_o the_o high_a god_n be_v it_o not_o then_o a_o honour_n and_o happiness_n unto_o thou_o some_o apparition_n either_o of_o the_o virgin_n marie_n or_o some_o of_o the_o apostle_n or_o a_o angel_n or_o christ_n jesus_n appear_v and_o talk_v with_o they_o and_o yet_o alas_o peter_n lame_v 33._o and_o john_n those_o three_o great_a pillar_n they_o be_v as_o good_a as_o beside_o themselves_o at_o the_o appear_v of_o a_o little_a part_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o christ_n in_o his_o transfiguration_n either_o therefore_o must_v it_o follow_v that_o these_o man_n have_v no_o sin_n in_o they_o which_o dare_v and_o can_v behold_v god_n glory_n so_o easy_o and_o so_o ordinary_o which_o be_v impossible_a or_o rather_o which_o indeed_o be_v truth_n it_o appear_v that_o these_o be_v but_o deceitful_a fancy_n and_o forgery_n of_o their_o own_o devise_n to_o deceive_v the_o world_n and_o to_o magnify_v themselves_o before_o the_o eye_n testament_n of_o the_o common_a people_n for_o it_o be_v first_o of_o all_o most_o false_a that_o apparition_n be_v so_o common_a as_o they_o make_v they_o for_o if_o they_o be_v then_o be_v they_o more_o ordinary_a in_o the_o new_a testament_n then_o in_o the_o old_a for_o whereas_o the_o scripture_n have_v one_o their_o legion_n have_v twenty_o &_o whereas_o one_o namely_o saint_n paul_n be_v once_o rapt_v into_o heaven_n they_o have_v 20._o that_o be_v rapt_v thither_o and_o as_o that_o be_v false_a so_o be_v it_o glory_n impossible_a that_o any_o man_n clothe_v with_o flesh_n can_v endure_v a_o extraordinary_a apparition_n of_o god_n glory_n without_o extreme_a amazement_n as_o be_v plain_a herd_n in_o the_o prophet_n who_o i_o hope_v be_v as_o holy_a a_o man_n as_o the_o holy_a monk_n that_o ever_o be_v i_o have_v note_v this_o that_o young_a divine_n may_v be_v occasion_v to_o look_v a_o little_a into_o their_o fabulous_a legend_n that_o so_o they_o may_v discover_v the_o false_a trick_n and_o juggle_a cast_v of_o that_o religion_n which_o evil_a shift_n it_o need_v not_o if_o it_o be_v of_o god_n three_o the_o people_n may_v here_o learn_v heaven_n first_o in_o that_o god_n presence_n be_v so_o glorious_a and_o fearful_a to_o man_n nature_n how_o merciful_o god_n have_v deal_v with_o they_o in_o teach_v they_o not_o by_o himself_o or_o by_o his_o angel_n from_o heaven_n which_o they_o can_v never_o endure_v but_o by_o man_n who_o be_v like_o themselves_o and_o how_o vain_a and_o fond_a these_o man_n be_v who_o will_v be_v teach_v from_o heaven_n &_o not_o by_o man_n who_o be_v so_o full_a of_o want_n in_o the_o old_a testament_n when_o the_o people_n receive_v the_o law_n from_o 28._o god_n own_o mouth_n it_o be_v say_v they_o run_v away_o and_o cry_v out_o why_o shall_v we_o die_v if_o we_o hear_v the_o voice_n of_o god_n any_o more_o we_o shall_v die_v for_o what_o flesh_n ever_o hear_v the_o voice_n of_o the_o live_a god_n &_o live_v therefore_o they_o say_v to_o moses_n go_v thou_o near_o and_o hear_v all_o that_o the_o lord_n shall_v say_v &_o declare_v thou_o unto_o we_o what_o god_n say_v to_o thou_o &_o we_o wilheare_v it_o &_o do_v it_o and_o then_o say_v the_o text_n the_o lord_n say_v i_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o this_o people_n they_o have_v say_v well_o in_o all_o that_o they_o have_v speak_v and_o so_o from_o that_o day_n forward_o god_n ordinary_o teach_v his_o church_n by_o man_n like_o themselves_o &_o we_o see_v that_o the_o beginning_n of_o it_o be_v not_o in_o judgement_n but_o in_o mercy_n unto_o they_o it_o be_v therefore_o the_o duty_n of_o all_o man_n both_o to_o acknowledge_v this_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o due_a thankfulness_n and_o withal_o to_o remember_v when_o they_o see_v infirmity_n in_o minister_n that_o they_o be_v but_o man_n and_o that_o if_o they_o have_v not_o the_o ministry_n of_o man_n how_o hard_o it_o will_v go_v with_o they_o consider_v that_o the_o least_o measure_n of_o god_n own_o presence_n can_v be_v endure_v by_o any_o man_n 2._o inasmuch_o as_o god_n presence_n be_v so_o glorious_a sacrament_n in_o itself_o and_o fearful_a to_o our_o nature_n all_o man_n be_v teach_v to_o prepare_v themselves_o by_o holy_a prayer_n by_o humisiation_n and_o confession_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o unworthiness_n afore_o they_o come_v to_o god_n word_n or_o sacrament_n for_o they_o come_v at_o that_o time_n into_o god_n presence_n they_o therefore_o be_v not_o to_o come_v in_o their_o security_n nor_o in_o their_o ordinary_a sin_n unrepented_a of_o lest_o god_n strike_v their_o conscience_n with_o a_o sense_n of_o his_o fearful_a displeasure_n &_o make_v they_o cry_v out_o upon_o far_o great_a cause_n than_o here_o the_o propet_v do_v three_o and_o last_o we_o learn_v here_o the_o different_a nature_n and_o property_n of_o presence_n sin_n and_o holiness_n sin_n even_o the_o least_o sin_n nay_o a_o very_a sinfulness_n of_o nature_n make_v a_o man_n afraid_a of_o god_n presence_n that_o sin_n unrepented_a of_o do_v so_o appear_v in_o adam_n who_o as_o in_o his_o integrity_n he_o speak_v &_o converse_v even_o in_o a_o familiar_a sort_n with_o god_n so_o no_o soon_o have_v he_o finned_a but_o he_o run_v from_o god_n and_o hide_v himself_o &_o that_o even_o the_o least_o sin_n not_o repent_v of_o do_v so_o also_o appear_v in_o this_o prophet_n who_o be_v a_o holy_a man_n yet_o his_o conscience_n be_v privy_a to_o itself_o of_o some_o small_a omission_n or_o negligence_n in_o his_o call_n he_o cry_v out_o he_o be_v undo_v because_o he_o see_v the_o lord_n of_o host_n but_o contrariwise_o the_o state_n of_o perfect_a presence_n holiness_n &_o the_o want_n
to_o live_v there_o and_o send_v out_o other_o man_n and_o give_v testimony_n and_o letter_n of_o commendation_n themselves_o to_o other_o man_n but_o themselves_o stir_v not_o when_o question_n be_v make_v who_o shall_v go_v to_o such_o a_o place_n or_o who_o shall_v be_v send_v to_o such_o a_o parish_n they_o say_v not_o here_o be_o i_o but_o either_o it_o be_v too_o little_a a_o live_n or_o too_o great_a a_o charge_n or_o ill_o seat_v or_o some_o fault_n it_o have_v that_o they_o will_v not_o be_v send_v to_o it_o but_o will_v answer_v god_n and_o his_o church_n there_o be_v such_o a_o man_n and_o give_v he_o letter_n of_o testimony_n or_o commendation_n and_o so_o all_o be_v well_o but_o for_o themslue_n they_o live_v too_o sweet_a and_o easy_a life_n willing_o to_o undertake_v the_o contempt_n and_o burden_n of_o the_o ministry_n let_v such_o man_n therefore_o learn_v when_o god_n &_o his_o church_n give_v they_o a_o calling_n to_o answer_v with_o the_o prophet_n here_o be_o i_o send_v i_o and_o let_v all_o such_o as_o be_v student_n of_o ministry_n divinity_n in_o the_o university_n mark_v here_o the_o prophet_n answer_n not_o i_o will_v be_v ready_a but_o here_o i_o be_o why_o take_v he_o no_o long_a time_n because_o he_o be_v now_o sufficient_o qualify_v where_o let_v they_o learn_v not_o to_o linger_v and_o lie_v rot_v too_o long_o in_o their_o specidative_a course_n but_o when_o they_o be_v competent_o furnish_v with_o learning_n and_o other_o quality_n befit_v that_o call_n let_v they_o show_v themselves_o willing_a and_o ready_a to_o yield_v their_o service_n to_o the_o church_n when_o they_o shall_v be_v call_v for_o as_o a_o apple_n may_v as_o well_o soon_o hang_v too_o long_o on_o the_o tree_n as_o be_v pull_v too_o soon_o and_o both_o make_v it_o unfit_a for_o use_v so_o many_o man_n as_o well_o stay_v too_o long_o as_o go_v out_o too_o soon_o and_o both_o way_n be_v make_v unprofitable_a or_o at_o least_o less_o profitable_a in_o the_o church_n and_o to_o conclude_v this_o second_o point_n it_o be_v not_o unworthy_a to_o be_v note_v that_o the_o prophet_n say_v not_o here_o i_o be_o and_o i_o send_v run_v on_o my_o own_o head_n but_z send_v i_o he_o will_n the_o lord_n to_o send_v he_o then_o where_o be_v they_o who_o dare_v brag_v of_o their_o private_a motion_n and_o will_v run_v when_o they_o be_v not_o send_v the_o prophet_n may_v have_v say_v oh_o word_n now_o i_o feel_v a_o motion_n from_o the_o spirit_n therefore_o i_o will_v go_v and_o preach_v but_o he_o stay_v till_o he_o be_v send_v in_o express_a term_n let_v no_o man_n therefore_o presume_v to_o press_v into_o this_o function_n till_o he_o be_v full_o resolve_v in_o his_o conscience_n that_o god_n and_o his_o church_n have_v say_v unto_o he_o go_v and_o though_o a_o man_n be_v never_o so_o well_o qualify_v with_o all_o manner_n of_o sufficiency_n send_v yet_o let_v he_o sit_v still_o and_o stay_v god_n leisure_n and_o let_v he_o say_v here_o i_o be_o send_v i_o and_o so_o rest_v content_v until_o he_o be_v send_v if_o any_o man_n say_v it_o be_v unfit_a that_o a_o man_n shall_v say_v so_o of_o himself_o i_o answer_v let_v he_o not_o say_v so_o in_o word_n but_o in_o deed_n let_v he_o therefore_o make_v proof_n of_o himself_o and_o give_v the_o church_n trial_n of_o his_o gift_n upon_o which_o experience_n of_o his_o gift_n if_o he_o be_v find_v sufficient_a that_o practice_n of_o he_o be_v all_o one_o and_o much_o more_o than_o if_o he_o have_v say_v here_o i_o be_o send_v i_o thus_o we_o see_v the_o prophet_n will_v not_o stir_v till_o he_o be_v send_v and_o therefore_o in_o the_o next_o word_n he_o be_v bid_v to_o go_v and_o he_o say_v go_v and_o speak_v unto_o this_o people_n here_o be_v the_o three_o and_o last_o point_n receive_v namely_o the_o essential_a word_n of_o his_o commission_n wherein_o after_o god_n have_v seek_v for_o one_o to_o go_v and_o the_o prophet_n have_v present_v himself_o and_o offer_v his_o service_n god_n both_o give_v he_o leave_v to_o go_v and_o further_o do_v furnish_v he_o with_o authority_n both_o to_o go_v and_o speak_v commission_n wherein_o the_o principal_a point_n be_v that_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o prophet_n calling_n be_v 〈◊〉_d from_o god_n himâ—else_n in_o plain_a and_o eâ—ide_v at_o word_n go_v and_o speak_v and_o etc._n till_o then_o the_o prophet_n go_v not_o so_o in_o the_o new_a testament_n the_o apostle_n go_v not_o into_o the_o world_n to_o preach_v till_o they_o have_v their_o commission_n go_v and_o teach_v all_o nation_n and_o after_o they_o saint_n paul_n 〈◊〉_d hot_a till_o it_o be_v say_v unto_o he_o arâ—se_n and_o go_v in_o all_o which_o be_v discover_v and_o condemn_v the_o pride_n and_o presumption_n of_o those_o who_o dare_v run_v on_o their_o own_o head_n and_o will_v not_o stay_v till_o the_o lord_n say_v unto_o they_o go_v and_o speak_v these_o man_n be_v bold_a then_o either_o the_o extraordinary_a prophet_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n or_o the_o apostle_n which_o be_v the_o extraordinary_a cause_n minister_n of_o the_o new_a who_o always_o have_v their_o warrant_n with_o the_o when_o they_o go_v and_o if_o any_o man_n ask_v why_o be_v it_o necessary_a they_o shall_v have_v so_o i_o answer_v the_o reason_n be_v many_o first_o all_o prophet_n and_o minister_n be_v god_n deputy_n and_o commissioner_n it_o king_n be_v therefore_o reason_n that_o they_o have_v authority_n from_o their_o lord_n and_o master_n second_o their_o word_n nor_o deed_n bear_v no_o credit_n nor_o have_v any_o power_n in_o they_o unless_o they_o be_v speak_v by_o virtue_n protection_n of_o a_o commission_n nor_o have_v their_o labour_n any_o blessing_n unless_o god_n give_v it_o three_o these_o person_n have_v no_o protection_n nor_o safety_n unless_o they_o be_v god_n ambassador_n and_o how_o be_v they_o so_o unless_o they_o be_v call_v and_o send_v by_o god_n and_o have_v authority_n give_v of_o god_n for_o these_o cause_n no_o man_n be_v to_o thrust_v himself_o into_o the_o ministry_n without_o a_o call_n from_o god_n and_o therefore_o no_o marvel_n though_o those_o man_n who_o will_v be_v chooser_n and_o caller_n of_o themselves_o and_o run_v when_o they_o be_v not_o send_v be_v in_o their_o person_n subject_a to_o all_o danger_n because_o they_o be_v out_o of_o god_n protection_n &_o their_o labour_n without_o profit_n because_o no_o blessing_n nor_o promise_n of_o god_n be_v give_v unto_o they_o for_o god_n may_v just_o say_v unto_o they_o let_v he_o that_o send_v you_o protect_v your_o person_n let_v he_o that_o send_v you_o bless_v your_o labour_n but_o it_o will_v then_o be_v demand_v how_o may_v i_o know_v if_o god_n bid_v i_o go_v for_o god_n go_v speak_v not_o now_o from_o heaven_n as_o in_o old_a time_n and_o as_o to_o this_o prophet_n i_o answer_v it_o be_v true_a we_o be_v to_o look_v for_o no_o such_o visiion_n nor_o apparition_n from_o heaven_n for_o ordinary_o heaven_n there_o be_v none_o such_o and_o the_o popish_a church_n do_v but_o deceive_v themselves_o and_o cozen_v the_o world_n who_o tell_v we_o of_o so_o many_o apparition_n that_o happen_v to_o their_o monk_n and_o friar_n for_o now_o ordinary_o god_n speak_v in_o another_o manner_n to_o his_o church_n for_o in_o general_n duty_n god_n speak_v to_o we_o out_o of_o his_o word_n and_o holy_a scripture_n and_o in_o particular_a word_n and_o personal_a duty_n where_o the_o word_n in_o plain_a term_n serve_v not_o he_o speak_v to_o a_o man_n by_o his_o own_o conscience_n and_o by_o the_o voice_n of_o his_o church_n out_o of_o his_o word_n god_n show_v thou_o the_o dignity_n and_o excellency_n of_o this_o call_n 18._o to_o be_v a_o minister_n of_o the_o word_n namely_o they_o be_v his_o messenger_n and_o ambassador_n etc._n etc._n that_o so_o he_o may_v win_v they_o to_o love_n and_o affect_v it_o and_o again_o the_o necessicitie_n of_o it_o that_o it_o teach_v the_o way_n to_o salvation_n that_o without_o it_o ordinary_o god_n church_n be_v not_o gather_v nor_o man_n soul_n save_v that_o this_o may_v stir_v thou_o gift_n up_o to_o undertake_v the_o burden_n this_o be_v general_a but_o now_o particular_o for_o thyself_o will_v thou_o know_v whether_o god_n will_v have_v thou_o to_o go_v or_o no_o than_o thou_o must_v ask_v thy_o own_o conscience_n and_o ask_v the_o church_n for_o if_o thou_o be_v hearty_o willing_a and_o be_v full_o and_o worthity_v qualify_v than_o god_n bid_v thou_o go_v now_o thy_o conscience_n must_v judge_v of_o thy_o willingness_n and_o the_o church_n of_o thy_o ability_n and_o as_o thou_o maiâ—â—_n not_o trust_v other_o man_n to_o judge_v of_o thy_o inclination_n or_o affection_n so_o thou_o
