jesus_n christ_n but_o because_o this_o duty_n be_v urge_v more_o general_o elsewhere_o and_o there_o be_v no_o duty_n require_v of_o such_o good_a man_n but_o it_o be_v also_o require_v of_o all_o man_n at_o least_o by_o consequence_n and_o as_o all_o man_n be_v require_v to_o be_v good_a i_o shall_v therefore_o take_v the_o word_n as_o exhort_v to_o a_o universal_a duty_n and_o i_o conclude_v from_o they_o that_o all_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o express_v a_o thankful_a acknowledgement_n unto_o god_n of_o the_o benefit_n they_o receive_v from_o he_o and_o that_o in_o all_o estate_n and_o death_n of_o christ_n be_v in_o some_o sense_n a_o universal_a benefit_n every_o man_n be_v behold_v to_o god_n for_o that_o be_v which_o he_o have_v it_o be_v god_n that_o have_v make_v we_o and_o not_o we_o ourselves_o and_o from_o that_o sort_n of_o be_v which_o god_n have_v give_v we_o be_v we_o engage_v to_o be_v thankful_a we_o be_v make_v but_o little_o low_a than_o the_o angel_n and_o crown_v with_o honour_n and_o dignity_n as_o the_o psalmist_n say_v of_o all_o man_n psal_n 8._o the_o mean_a man_n be_v next_o in_o dignity_n to_o they_o in_o the_o order_n of_o the_o creation_n it_o be_v a_o exceed_a honour_n of_o our_o body_n and_o their_o great_a worth_n and_o commendation_n that_o they_o be_v make_v fit_a to_o serve_v and_o entertain_v so_o noble_a a_o guest_n as_o a_o immortal_a spirit_n and_o this_o honour_n the_o most_o deform_a the_o weak_a and_o the_o most_o crazy_a body_n have_v belong_v to_o it_o but_o our_o great_a worth_n and_o dignity_n lie_v in_o the_o soul_n which_o god_n have_v give_v we_o there_o be_v in_o every_o man_n a_o excellent_a spirit_n which_o be_v capable_a of_o very_o great_a thing_n however_o it_o be_v in_o some_o man_n wretched_o neglect_v and_o depress_v by_o this_o be_v all_o man_n capable_a of_o the_o sublime_a knowledge_n of_o the_o creator_n capable_a to_o love_v and_o praise_n and_o delight_v themselves_o in_o he_o by_o such_o a_o be_v than_o we_o be_v capable_a of_o happiness_n to_o a_o great_a and_o excellent_a degree_n and_o even_o of_o the_o high_a kind_n of_o happiness_n that_o can_v be_v as_o we_o can_v enjoy_v or_o delight_v ourselves_o in_o he_o who_o be_v the_o high_a good_n and_o our_o immortal_a soul_n render_v we_o capable_a of_o everlasting_a happiness_n in_o the_o eternal_a fruition_n of_o a_o infinite_a eternal_a good_n every_o man_n may_v reach_v this_o happiness_n if_o he_o will_v this_o be_v that_o he_o be_v make_v and_o design_v for_o and_o no_o man_n shall_v fall_v short_a of_o it_o but_o by_o his_o own_o default_n thus_o our_o be_v then_o shall_v engage_v we_o to_o be_v thankful_a to_o god_n that_o give_v it_o further_n it_o be_v to_o he_o we_o owe_v the_o continuance_n of_o our_o be_v he_o support_v and_o maintain_v we_o in_o this_o life_n while_o it_o last_v and_o after_o it_o in_o the_o other_o this_o be_v a_o continual_a obligation_n to_o thankfulness_n it_o be_v a_o continual_a creation_n as_o no_o be_v can_v make_v its_o self_n so_o none_o can_v preserve_v or_o continue_v its_o self_n at_o all_o but_o all_o thing_n have_v always_o a_o most_o necessary_a dependence_n upon_o the_o great_a creator_n we_o ought_v then_o all_o of_o we_o to_o acknowledge_v it_o be_v he_o that_o hold_v our_o soul_n in_o life_n and_o while_o he_o continue_v this_o life_n he_o oblige_v we_o in_o that_o we_o be_v so_o long_o capable_a in_o some_o measure_n to_o see_v and_o enjoy_v the_o pleasant_a and_o good_a thing_n of_o this_o world_n if_o we_o have_v good_a and_o virtuous_a soul_n and_o be_v free_a from_o envy_n and_o
malice_n we_o can_v see_v with_o satisfaction_n and_o pleasure_n the_o happiness_n and_o satisfaction_n of_o other_o though_o we_o be_v not_o so_o happy_a ourselves_o especial_o may_v this_o please_v we_o in_o those_o that_o be_v virtuous_a and_o good_a and_o in_o those_o that_o be_v dear_a to_o we_o beside_o while_o a_o man_n live_v though_o it_o be_v in_o a_o afflict_a state_n he_o have_v that_o important_a term_n and_o space_n lengthen_v to_o he_o wherein_o alone_o he_o can_v make_v his_o peace_n with_o god_n and_o fit_a and_o prepare_v his_o soul_n for_o heaven_n the_o time_n of_o this_o life_n be_v the_o only_a space_n allow_v we_o for_o the_o seek_n and_o serve_v the_o interest_n of_o eternity_n and_o if_o our_o life_n be_v continue_v though_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o continual_a or_o succeed_a vexation_n and_o misery_n as_o these_o give_v we_o opportunity_n of_o exercise_v long_a patience_n a_o invincible_a trust_n in_o god_n the_o most_o commendable_a love_n to_o he_o and_o the_o most_o difficult_a resignation_n and_o submission_n so_o we_o have_v herein_o opportunity_n to_o gain_v the_o great_a applause_n hereafter_o the_o bright_a crown_n of_o glory_n and_o the_o more_o excellent_a degree_n of_o reward_n by_o a_o patient_a continuance_n in_o well-doing_n we_o have_v reason_n then_o to_o be_v thankful_a for_o the_o continuance_n of_o our_o be_v even_o in_o such_o a_o state_n as_o this_o further_n there_o be_v no_o man_n but_o do_v enjoy_v at_o one_o time_n or_o other_o and_o in_o a_o great_a or_o less_o measure_v the_o comfort_n of_o this_o present_a life_n those_o thing_n which_o do_v for_o the_o time_n elevate_v and_o cheer_v he_o and_o make_v he_o joyful_a and_o merry_a every_o man_n have_v some_o interval_n of_o bright_a and_o calm_a wether_n no_o one_o day_n be_v always_o cloud_v and_o stormy_a this_o life_n be_v to_o none_o a_o state_n of_o pure_a misery_n we_o be_v bear_v to_o trouble_v in_o this_o world_n yet_o none_o do_v meet_v with_o only_a trouble_n and_o affliction_n beside_o there_o be_v common_o a_o mixture_n of_o good_a and_o evil_a in_o every_o condition_n every_o inconvenient_a state_n have_v some_o conveniency_n to_o allay_v it_o these_o we_o may_v find_v out_o if_o we_o will_v impartial_o consider_v our_o circumstance_n and_o from_o thence_o we_o shall_v always_o have_v some_o reason_n to_o be_v thankful_a last_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n be_v without_o doubt_n in_o some_o sense_n a_o universal_a benefit_n jesus_n christ_n come_v into_o the_o world_n to_o save_v sinner_n he_o by_o his_o one_o oblation_n of_o himself_o once_o offer_v have_v make_v a_o full_a perfect_a and_o sufficient_a sacrifice_n and_o satisfaction_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o whole_a world_n he_o have_v by_o his_o disciple_n go_v and_o preach_v the_o gospel_n to_o all_o and_o this_o salvation_n may_v be_v obtain_v by_o all_o to_o who_o it_o be_v offer_v if_o they_o be_v not_o want_v to_o themselves_o none_o of_o they_o perish_v but_o by_o their_o own_o perverseness_n all_o in_o the_o christian_a church_n be_v behold_v for_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o christ_n which_o be_v offer_v to_o they_o for_o the_o mean_n of_o grace_n and_o salvation_n thus_o it_o appear_v that_o all_o man_n be_v in_o some_o measure_n partaker_n of_o the_o divine_a benefit_n 2._o another_o thing_n that_o make_v this_o a_o universal_a duty_n be_v that_o god_n have_v with_o such_o admirable_a wisdom_n distribute_v his_o gift_n among_o man_n that_o every_o one_o almost_o have_v in_o some_o respect_n or_o other_o the_o advantage_n of_o some_o other_o men._n as_o none_o be_v in_o this_o life_n perfect_o miserable_a so_o we_o can_v see_v none_o that_o be_v perfect_o and_o complete_o happy_a no_o man_n shall_v have_v good_a reason_n to_o think_v himself_o worse_o deal_v with_o and_o hard_a use_v by_o god_n providence_n than_o all_o man_n beside_o he_o there_o be_v hardly_o a_o man_n but_o may_v say_v if_o i_o want_v what_o other_o have_v i_o may_v also_o see_v some_o at_o least_o of_o other_o want_v what_o i_o have_v and_o what_o i_o delight_v in_o what_o i_o will_v not_o be_v without_o and_o perhaps_o will_v not_o exchange_v with_o many_o for_o they_o if_o the_o rich_a have_v great_a dainty_n the_o poor_a have_v usual_o the_o strong_a and_o better_a appetite_n the_o labourer_n have_v great_a strength_n and_o more_o health_n many_o time_n than_o he_o that_o live_v at_o ease_n if_o one_o man_n have_v less_o honour_n than_o another_o he_o have_v less_o care_n and_o trouble_v too_o a_o obscure_a station_n be_v blessed_v with_o great_a safety_n be_v expose_v to_o less_o envy_n than_o the_o contrary_n how_o many_o care_n and_o grief_n and_o fear_n do_v attend_v riches_n and_o greatness_n of_o which_o the_o mean_a and_o poor_a man_n may_v say_v i_o have_v none_o of_o these_o to_o trouble_v i_o it_o please_v god_n many_o time_n to_o lodge_v a_o virtuous_a and_o brave_a soul_n in_o a_o deform_a and_o contemptible_a body_n and_o oftentimes_o be_v great_a beauty_n or_o strength_n and_o great_a folly_n join_v together_o it_o be_v very_o sit_o reply_v by_o the_o philosopher_n who_o be_v pity_v by_o one_o for_o the_o loss_n of_o a_o farm_n answer_v his_o condoler_n thus_o you_o have_v but_o one_o field_n and_o i_o have_v yet_o three_o leave_v and_o why_o shall_v not_o i_o then_o rather_o pity_v and_o grieve_v for_o you_o if_o our_o mind_n be_v apt_a to_o grow_v sick_a with_o envy_n or_o discontent_n at_o see_v the_o advantage_n in_o some_o respect_n which_o other_o have_v of_o we_o we_o shall_v cure_v they_o again_o by_o reflect_v on_o those_o which_o in_o other_o respect_n perhaps_o we_o may_v have_v of_o they_o or_o of_o some_o other_o person_n and_o thus_o may_v every_o man_n see_v something_o in_o his_o condition_n to_o be_v thankful_a for_o upon_o a_o fair_a comparison_n of_o it_o with_o that_o of_o other_o men._n 3._o it_o be_v yet_o another_o ground_n of_o thankfulness_n common_a to_o all_o man_n that_o the_o gift_n which_o we_o receive_v from_o god_n be_v undeserved_o and_o free_o bestow_v upon_o we_o as_o he_o be_v the_o sole_a fountain_n of_o all_o the_o good_a we_o enjoy_v so_o he_o be_v the_o absolute_a and_o free_a dispenser_n of_o all_o his_o gift_n god_n be_v a_o debtor_n to_o no_o man_n we_o can_v draw_v any_o of_o make_v that_o challenge_n who_o have_v give_v any_o thing_n to_o god_n and_o it_o shall_v be_v recompense_v to_o he_o again_o rom._n 11._o 5._o he_o can_v receive_v no_o advantage_n from_o his_o creature_n and_o therefore_o he_o design_v none_o to_o himself_o in_o what_o he_o bestow_v upon_o they_o he_o may_v then_o very_o just_o expostulate_v with_o our_o murmur_a and_o discontent_a as_o the_o housholder_n in_o the_o parable_n friend_n i_o do_v thou_o no_o wrong_n be_v it_o not_o lawful_a for_o i_o to_o do_v what_o i_o will_v with_o my_o own_o we_o shall_v always_o consider_v he_o be_v at_o liberty_n whether_o he_o will_v give_v what_o we_o ask_v of_o he_o or_o not_o what_o we_o want_v be_v he_o and_o what_o we_o have_v be_v so_o too_o even_o whilst_o we_o have_v it_o and_o so_o he_o be_v at_o liberty_n also_o to_o take_v that_o away_o we_o be_v entire_o behold_v to_o he_o for_o all_o that_o we_o have_v and_o shall_v not_o this_o make_v we_o always_o thankful_a he_o deserve_v this_o from_o we_o if_o he_o give_v and_o continue_v any_o thing_n to_o we_o since_o he_o do_v this_o free_o since_o god_n be_v kind_a let_v we_o be_v ashamed_a to_o be_v unjust_a since_o he_o give_v we_o the_o good_a thing_n which_o we_o do_v not_o deserve_v from_o he_o let_v we_o not_o be_v so_o guilty_a as_o to_o deny_v he_o the_o praise_n and_o thanksgiving_n which_o he_o do_v deserve_v from_o we_o shall_v we_o not_o thank_v he_o for_o those_o thing_n which_o we_o can_v demand_v of_o he_o which_o he_o give_v and_o need_v not_o give_v we_o though_o we_o have_v not_o all_o that_o we_o desire_v
