common_a sort_n to_o have_v discourse_n of_o the_o heir_n apparent_a and_o so_o few_o of_o they_o thought_n of_o he_o that_o we_o have_v now_o or_o of_o any_o other_o but_o this_o be_v most_o of_o all_o to_o be_v wonder_v at_o entrance_n and_o for_o his_o peaceable_a entrance_n that_o he_o come_v to_o the_o kingdom_n so_o peaceable_o and_o with_o so_o great_a approbation_n of_o all_o sort_n of_o man_n and_o travel_v through_o the_o length_n of_o the_o whole_a land_n almost_o even_o at_o the_o first_o for_o mean_a man_n have_v not_o come_v to_o their_o inheritance_n and_o take_v up_o the_o possession_n of_o they_o so_o quiet_o for_o true_o by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n to_o his_o praise_n be_v it_o speak_v there_o be_v no_o more_o alteration_n in_o the_o land_n in_o any_o estate_n or_o in_o private_a man_n condition_n for_o the_o most_o part_n than_o if_o the_o queen_n be_v still_o alive_a and_o this_o benefit_n be_v the_o great_a because_o we_o fear_v the_o contrary_a and_o none_o can_v have_v look_v for_o after_o her_o death_n such_o time_n as_o we_o have_v now_o and_o if_o there_o be_v any_o change_n at_o all_o better_v and_o that_o in_o this_o short_a time_n since_o his_o come_a thing_n be_v better_v it_o be_v from_o worse_a to_o better_o so_o that_o since_o his_o come_v many_o thing_n be_v better_a in_o the_o church_n &_o commonwealth_n for_o by_o the_o gracious_a proclamation_n of_o his_o majesty_n many_o abuse_n of_o play_n and_o interlude_n with_o bearebaiting_n and_o bulbaiting_n upon_o the_o sabbath_n day_n be_v put_v down_o with_o monopoly_n and_o ingrossing_n of_o ware_n into_o the_o hand_n of_o a_o few_o man_n many_o worthy_a man_n be_v advance_v to_o great_a honour_n and_o worship_n the_o papist_n in_o less_o hope_n of_o any_o toleration_n for_o their_o popish_a idolatry_n than_o before_o and_o unto_o all_o these_o benefit_n this_o be_v none_o of_o the_o least_o cheap_a and_o all_o thing_n very_o cheap_a that_o god_n have_v add_v this_o plenty_n of_o all_o thing_n even_o at_o this_o time_n whereby_o victual_n and_o other_o thing_n be_v reasonable_a cheap_a least_o by_o scarcity_n there_o may_v be_v occasion_n of_o dislike_n therefore_o in_o respect_n of_o they_o all_o let_v we_o be_v thankful_a unto_o god_n and_o yet_o again_o let_v we_o consider_v that_o all_o these_o come_v not_o without_o some_o punishment_n as_o this_o plague_n which_o be_v so_o scatter_v in_o many_o part_n of_o this_o land_n especial_o the_o chief_a city_n wherein_o we_o must_v also_o acknowledge_v the_o great_a mercy_n of_o god_n plague_n but_o we_o be_v fall_v into_o god_n hand_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o plague_n that_o we_o have_v escape_v that_o which_o we_o have_v deserve_v and_o have_v most_o cause_n to_o fear_n even_o to_o fall_v into_o the_o hand_n of_o our_o enemy_n that_o they_o may_v make_v a_o pray_v of_o we_o and_o of_o all_o that_o we_o have_v which_o david_n account_v a_o great_a mercy_n and_o choose_v it_o when_o both_o of_o they_o be_v offer_v unto_o he_o say_v let_v we_o fall_v now_o into_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o lord_n for_o his_o mercy_n be_v great_a and_o let_v i_o not_o fall_v into_o the_o hand_n of_o man_n 14._o 2._o sam._n 24_o 14._o therefore_o let_v we_o be_v thankful_a unto_o god_n for_o this_o mercy_n also_o and_o so_o join_v thanksgiving_n unto_o prayer_n for_o these_o cause_n that_o we_o have_v hear_v let_v we_o pray_v unto_o god_n for_o the_o preservation_n and_o honour_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o king_n james_n who_o the_o lord_n at_o this_o time_n with_o so_o many_o great_a benefit_n have_v send_v unto_o we_o and_o let_v we_o take_v these_o word_n of_o the_o psalm_n into_o our_o mouth_n from_o which_o i_o have_v a_o little_a upon_o this_o occasion_n that_o you_o have_v hear_v of_o digress_v and_o say_v the_o lord_n hear_v thou_o in_o the_o day_n of_o trouble_n etc._n etc._n the_o lord_n hear_v thou_o these_o be_v the_o word_n of_o the_o prayer_n of_o the_o people_n for_o david_n their_o king_n but_o as_o joab_n teach_v the_o woman_n of_o tekoah_n what_o she_o shall_v say_v to_o the_o king_n 14.19_o chap._n 14.19_o and_o do_v put_v those_o word_n into_o her_o mouth_n which_o she_o speak_v before_o he_o so_o david_n make_v this_o prayer_n for_o they_o and_o teach_v they_o what_o they_o shall_v say_v unto_o god_n in_o his_o own_o behalf_n and_o do_v as_o it_o be_v put_v these_o word_n into_o their_o mouth_n when_o they_o shall_v come_v before_o he_o and_o so_o he_o not_o only_o as_o a_o king_n teach_v his_o subject_n what_o duty_n they_o do_v owe_v unto_o he_o but_o as_o a_o prophet_n also_o speak_v by_o the_o inspiration_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n 1.21_o 2._o pet._n 1.21_o as_o other_o holy_a man_n that_o write_v the_o scripture_n inform_v the_o church_n of_o god_n what_o duty_n they_o owe_v to_o he_o and_o to_o their_o superior_n himself_o david_n teach_v the_o people_n their_o duty_n to_o himself_o so_o that_o he_o do_v not_o in_o teach_v they_o this_o duty_n of_o prayer_n for_o he_o ambitious_o seek_v himself_o and_o stand_v upon_o his_o own_o prerogative_n to_o say_v oh_o i_o be_o your_o king_n you_o ought_v to_o pray_v for_o i_o and_o to_o do_v so_o and_o so_o but_o he_o know_v it_o to_o be_v his_o own_o duty_n to_o inform_v they_o that_o be_v commit_v unto_o his_o charge_n in_o all_o duty_n to_o god_n and_o man_n even_o to_o himself_o and_o therefore_o do_v thus_o discharge_v it_o know_v also_o that_o in_o his_o own_o safety_n do_v consist_v their_o welfare_n and_o therefore_o in_o pray_v for_o he_o which_o the_o minister_n to_o their_o people_n and_o flock_n what_o duty_n they_o owe_v not_o only_o to_o god_n and_o other_o man_n but_o even_o to_o themselves_o and_o in_o so_o do_v not_o to_o be_v think_v of_o any_o ambitious_a proud_a &c_n &c_n or_o their_o doctrine_n any_o way_n dislike_v or_o suspect_v and_o to_o show_v unto_o they_o whether_o for_o reverence_n of_o their_o person_n to_o have_v they_o in_o singular_a estimation_n for_o their_o work_n sake_n or_o for_o obedience_n of_o their_o doctrine_n 13.17_o 1._o thess_n 5.13_o heb._n 13.17_o to_o obey_v it_o that_o they_o may_v go_v on_o with_o cheerfulness_n or_o for_o maintenance_n or_o recompense_n of_o their_o labour_n in_o worldly_a thing_n 5.17_o 1._o tim._n 5.17_o to_o give_v they_o double_a honour_n or_o in_o any_o thing_n else_o what_o they_o shall_v do_v unto_o they_o not_o only_o because_o they_o be_v faithful_a in_o god_n house_n as_o moses_n be_v 3.2_o heb._n 3.2_o and_o so_o deliver_v unto_o they_o the_o whole_a counsel_n of_o god_n 20.27_o act._n 20.27_o as_o paul_n do_v and_o so_o teach_v they_o all-thing_n and_o therefore_o of_o necessity_n there_o must_v be_v a_o time_n for_o they_o but_o also_o because_o the_o people_n in_o do_v these_o duty_n to_o they_o they_o benefit_n themselves_o for_o in_o preserve_v the_o authority_n of_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n inviolable_a in_o their_o conscience_n and_o in_o the_o conscience_n of_o other_o consist_v the_o people_n welfare_n so_o that_o as_o this_o people_n be_v not_o to_o except_v against_o this_o prayer_n when_o it_o come_v to_o they_o from_o david_n for_o it_o come_v not_o by_o the_o way_n of_o entreaty_n as_o a_o indifferent_a thing_n but_o by_o a_o princely_a injunction_n or_o prophetical_a instruction_n and_o so_o as_o a_o necessary_a duty_n of_o they_o and_o therefore_o they_o be_v to_o think_v that_o they_o be_v bind_v unto_o it_o and_o that_o he_o do_v necessary_o require_v it_o at_o their_o hand_n and_o not_o to_o make_v
exception_n against_o it_o and_o to_o say_v behold_v how_o he_o seek_v himself_o he_o have_v give_v we_o a_o form_n of_o prayer_n but_o it_o be_v all_o or_o most_o for_o himself_o so_o when_o the_o minister_n of_o god_n word_n shall_v show_v what_o duty_n the_o people_n owe_v to_o they_o as_o they_o be_v god_n minister_n they_o must_v not_o scornful_o reject_v it_o say_v he_o have_v teach_v we_o indeed_o a_o good_a lesson_n to_o day_n but_o the_o great_a part_n of_o it_o do_v concern_v himself_o see_v how_o well_o he_o can_v plead_v for_o himself_o for_o do_v we_o not_o see_v how_o the_o apostle_n paul_n who_o be_v so_o humble_a and_o lowly_a that_o he_o do_v figurative_o apply_v the_o fault_n of_o other_o to_o himself_o and_o to_o apollo_n 4.6_o 1._o cor._n 4.6_o that_o the_o corinthian_n may_v learn_v by_o they_o not_o to_o swell_v one_o against_o another_o for_o any_o cause_n teach_v the_o church_n and_o people_n of_o god_n to_o pray_v for_o he_o 6.19_o eph._n 6.19_o and_o to_o reverence_v his_o person_n as_o the_o minister_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o disposer_n of_o the_o secret_n of_o god_n &_o also_o to_o bestow_v their_o worldly_a good_n upon_o he_o for_o his_o maintenance_n 6.1_o 1._o cor._n 6.1_o yea_o the_o maintenance_n of_o his_o wife_n and_o child_n and_o whole_a family_n if_o he_o have_v any_o and_o do_v he_o not_o just_o find_v fault_n with_o they_o when_o they_o have_v fail_v in_o these_o thing_n 4.10_o phil._n 4.10_o therefore_o though_o many_o that_o i_o say_v not_o myself_o do_v often_o witting_o and_o of_o purpose_n pass_v by_o such_o doctrine_n arise_v necessary_o from_o the_o word_n of_o their_o text_n or_o do_v teach_v it_o seldom_o and_o very_o spare_o lest_o any_o shall_v stumble_v at_o this_o without_o a_o cause_n yet_o when_o any_o such_o thing_n be_v deliver_v we_o see_v how_o it_o must_v be_v receive_v and_o practise_v the_o like_a be_v to_o be_v say_v of_o all_o governor_n in_o a_o family_n they_o and_o governor_n of_o family_n to_o those_o that_o be_v commit_v to_o they_o the_o parent_n father_n and_o mother_n or_o the_o master_n and_o mistress_n or_o dame_n may_v and_o aught_o without_o any_o imputation_n from_o any_o teach_v their_o son_n and_o daughter_n their_o maid_n servant_n and_o man_n servant_n what_o be_v their_o duty_n not_o only_o and_o principal_o to_o god_n but_o to_o other_o even_o to_o themselves_o and_o these_o inferior_n must_v patient_o hear_v they_o and_o not_o be_v offend_v at_o it_o but_o willing_a to_o learn_v and_o do_v they_o for_o beside_o that_o they_o shall_v thus_o think_v of_o themselves_o that_o they_o be_v in_o place_n to_o teach_v they_o and_o so_o they_o must_v receive_v instruction_n at_o their_o mouth_n the_o governor_n also_o do_v know_v that_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o such_o duty_n to_o they_o consist_v their_o good_a and_o for_o the_o neglect_n of_o such_o god_n will_v punish_v they_o when_o as_o then_o they_o shall_v hear_v they_o say_v you_o ought_v to_o behave_v yourselves_o thus_o and_o thus_o to_o i_o you_o ought_v so_o to_o speak_v even_o reverent_o your_o behaviour_n to_o i_o and_o your_o obedience_n ought_v to_o be_v so_o and_o so_o they_o must_v not_o proud_o and_o disdainful_o cast_v it_o behind_o their_o back_n but_o willing_o embrace_v it_o and_o conscionable_o practice_v it_o yea_o one_o man_n in_o godliness_n wisdom_n and_o christian_n modesty_n another_o and_o one_o neighbour_n may_v thus_o teach_v another_o may_v tell_v other_o what_o duty_n they_o owe_v to_o they_o in_o respect_n of_o their_o calling_n year_n and_o such_o like_a and_o say_v you_o ought_v to_o behave_v yourself_o towards_o i_o thus_o and_o thus_o do_v you_o not_o know_v that_o i_o be_o your_o elder_n your_o better_a your_o neighbour_n your_o kinsman_n &_o c_o without_o any_o suspicion_n of_o foolish_a ambition_n for_o as_o if_o we_o have_v a_o evil_a debtor_n we_o may_v without_o suspicion_n of_o covetousness_n tell_v he_o that_o he_o be_v in_o our_o debt_n and_o that_o he_o owe_v we_o so_o much_o and_o require_v he_o to_o pay_v it_o so_o other_o duty_n that_o any_o owe_v to_o we_o we_o may_v without_o surmise_n of_o self-love_n require_v at_o their_o hand_n therefore_o in_o what_o call_v soever_o we_o be_v though_o indeed_o we_o shall_v always_o and_o in_o all_o thing_n be_v more_o forward_o to_o do_v duty_n then_o to_o require_v they_o of_o other_o yet_o we_o shall_v not_o impose_v upon_o ourselves_o such_o a_o maydenlinesse_n or_o stoical_a modesty_n that_o we_o shall_v never_o challenge_v our_o right_n of_o man_n and_o show_v what_o duty_n they_o owe_v unto_o we_o especial_o see_v we_o shall_v teach_v and_o admonish_v one_o another_o while_o we_o have_v time_n and_o while_o it_o be_v call_v to_o day_n and_o we_o also_o do_v know_v 3.13_o heb._n 3.13_o that_o for_o they_o to_o perform_v such_o duty_n unto_o we_o shall_v make_v for_o their_o good_a teach_v how_o hardly_o man_n will_v admit_v this_o kind_n of_o teach_v and_o this_o that_o we_o have_v speak_v be_v the_o rather_o to_o be_v mark_v of_o we_o because_o we_o shall_v find_v natural_o that_o we_o do_v more_o easy_o admit_v that_o kind_n of_o teach_v wherein_o we_o be_v show_v our_o duty_n to_o other_o rather_o than_o to_o those_o that_o do_v teach_v us._n as_o if_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n shall_v public_o or_o any_o other_o private_o tell_v we_o what_o we_o shall_v do_v to_o god_n or_o to_o our_o king_n or_o to_o our_o governor_n or_o to_o our_o parent_n or_o to_o our_o neighbour_n we_o may_v happy_o with_o quietness_n hear_v it_o yet_o it_o be_v to_o be_v wish_v that_o all_o will_v do_v so_o but_o if_o he_o come_v to_o show_v what_o god_n require_v to_o be_v do_v to_o himself_o and_o to_o his_o ministry_n than_o they_o be_v ready_a to_o take_v exception_n against_o it_o and_o they_o think_v that_o they_o may_v lawful_o gainsay_v it_o at_o least_o wise_a pause_n upon_o it_o and_o say_v see_v what_o a_o fair_a tail_n he_o have_v tell_v for_o himself_o and_o so_o though_o it_o be_v a_o duty_n and_o god_n require_v it_o of_o they_o and_o they_o hear_v it_o and_o the_o conscience_n do_v sufficient_o convict_v they_o of_o it_o yet_o forsooth_o because_o it_o concern_v they_o that_o speak_v they_o little_o regard_v it_o and_o though_o in_o some_o case_n they_o will_v give_v a_o man_n leave_v to_o speak_v for_o his_o own_o profit_n yet_o not_o for_o duty_n to_o be_v perform_v unto_o they_o though_o it_o be_v for_o the_o profit_n of_o other_o therefore_o see_v that_o we_o shall_v find_v this_o corruption_n so_o strong_a in_o we_o and_o so_o deep_o as_o it_o be_v to_o be_v root_v in_o the_o bone_n that_o it_o will_v not_o out_o of_o the_o flesh_n even_o that_o our_o stomach_n will_v soon_o rise_v against_o a_o man_n when_o he_o speak_v to_o we_o of_o himself_o and_o of_o our_o duty_n to_o he_o then_o of_o another_o and_o we_o can_v more_o hardly_o brook_v and_o digest_v such_o kind_n of_o teach_v we_o have_v need_v to_o be_v put_v in_o mind_n of_o it_o and_o to_o be_v make_v acquaint_v with_o it_o so_o much_o the_o more_o and_o thus_o we_o conclude_v by_o the_o example_n of_o david_n in_o give_v this_o form_n of_o prayer_n in_o his_o behalf_n conclusion_n the_o conclusion_n and_o of_o the_o people_n in_o use_v it_o for_o he_o and_o so_o do_v willing_o perform_v this_o duty_n of_o prayer_n for_o their_o king_n though_o he_o teach_v it_o they_o that_o it_o be_v lawful_a for_o the_o minister_n of_o god_n to_o teach_v public_o in_o their_o sermon_n such_o duty_n as_o belong_v to_o themselves_o yea_o and_o for_o all_o sort_n of_o man_n private_o to_o admonish_v their_o neighbour_n and_o brethren_n of_o the_o like_a without_o any_o just_a suspicion_n of_o ill_a meaning_n and_o that_o all_o inferior_n must_v with_o meekness_n and_o reverence_n receive_v such_o instruction_n willing_o at_o their_o mouth_n and_o be_v swift_a to_o hear_v they_o and_o slow_a to_o reply_v or_o speak_v against_o they_o and_o be_v careful_a to_o follow_v they_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o not_o to_o think_v much_o of_o it_o that_o they_o shall_v come_v thus_o near_o they_o as_o to_o press_v upon_o they_o such_o duty_n as_o they_o owe_v not_o any_o to_o other_o but_o to_o themselves_o see_v god_n have_v ordain_v one_o of_o we_o to_o help_v another_o as_o the_o member_n of_o the_o body_n do_v and_o the_o superior_n therein_o seek_v their_o good_a and_o not_o themselves_o so_o much_o and_o the_o inferior_n also_o shall_v find_v by_o experience_n that_o it_o be_v profitable_a for_o themselves_o to_o do_v such_o thing_n as_o be_v require_v at_o their_o hand_n the_o five_o sermon_n upon_o the_o first_o verse_n
but_o repose_v his_o whole_a confidence_n in_o god_n defence_n therefore_o he_o pray_v to_o he_o before_o he_o begin_v any_o thing_n and_o determine_v further_a in_o the_o whole_a course_n of_o his_o proceed_n still_o to_o pray_v unto_o god_n for_o direction_n and_o aid_n and_o not_o only_o to_o do_v it_o a_o little_a at_o the_o first_o as_o may_v appear_v out_o of_o the_o verse_n he_o david_n do_v desire_v the_o people_n to_o pray_v for_o he_o 1.3.4_o but_o because_o it_o concern_v not_o himself_o alone_o but_o all_o the_o people_n and_o find_v his_o own_o insufficiency_n in_o prayer_n and_o believe_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n make_v unto_o the_o prayer_n of_o other_o especial_o of_o the_o church_n he_o desire_v they_o to_o pray_v for_o he_o and_o namely_o to_o pray_v that_o god_n will_v hear_v his_o prayer_n which_o what_o they_o be_v or_o shall_v be_v in_o particular_a they_o know_v not_o but_o general_o they_o may_v presume_v that_o they_o be_v good_a and_o such_o as_o do_v concern_v that_o action_n and_o so_o whatsoever_o they_o be_v he_o will_v have_v they_o pray_v to_o god_n that_o he_o will_v hear_v they_o as_o appeareth_z vers_n 4._o the_o people_n do_v according_a to_o this_o direction_n and_o commandment_n of_o he_o he_o the_o prophet_n do_v use_v this_o form_n of_o prayer_n for_o he_o for_o they_o use_v this_o form_n of_o prayer_n which_o he_o have_v prescribe_v and_o so_o do_v pray_v earnest_o for_o he_o that_o god_n will_v both_o hear_v his_o prayer_n and_o defend_v his_o person_n and_o to_o that_o end_n send_v he_o help_v from_o heaven_n and_o declare_v by_o the_o event_n that_o he_o have_v hear_v his_o and_o their_o prayer_n in_o give_v they_o victory_n over_o their_o enemy_n and_o god_n hear_v they_o all_o and_o save_v the_o king_n confound_v their_o enemy_n cause_v they_o to_o return_v home_o with_o victory_n and_o great_a triumph_n as_o appeareth_z by_o the_o next_o psalm_n wherein_o he_o and_o they_o together_o give_v thanks_o unto_o god_n for_o the_o victory_n attribute_v it_o only_o to_o god_n and_o not_o to_o their_o own_o strength_n or_o any_o power_n of_o man_n as_o in_o this_o psalm_n they_o have_v profess_v that_o they_o do_v not_o trust_v in_o chariot_n and_o horse_n and_o such_o warlike_a defence_n as_o man_n use_v to_o do_v and_o namely_o their_o enemy_n do_v but_o only_o in_o the_o protection_n and_o defence_n of_o god_n which_o by_o call_v upon_o his_o name_n they_o seek_v for_o and_o so_o this_o be_v the_o general_a argument_n and_o sum_n of_o this_o psalm_n both_o in_o respect_n of_o david_n who_o make_v this_o prayer_n and_o of_o the_o people_n who_o do_v use_v it_o for_o he_o by_o the_o inscription_n than_o it_o appear_v that_o david_n make_v this_o prayer_n for_o the_o people_n to_o use_v in_o his_o behalf_n be_v desirous_a that_o they_o shall_v pray_v for_o he_o and_o do_v as_o it_o be_v seek_v it_o at_o their_o hand_n if_o he_o in_o so_o good_a a_o cause_n do_v not_o rest_n in_o the_o confidence_n of_o his_o own_o prayer_n but_o desire_v other_o to_o pray_v for_o he_o and_o if_o he_o do_v it_o then_o when_o he_o have_v so_o many_o mean_n to_o accomplish_v his_o desire_n because_o he_o know_v god_n to_o be_v above_o they_o and_o so_o as_o without_o he_o they_o can_v do_v nothing_o and_o he_o be_v able_a to_o hinder_v and_o to_o frustrate_v all_o and_o if_o he_o that_o this_o special_a need_n of_o he_o as_o be_v in_o danger_n and_o fear_n of_o his_o enemy_n so_o if_o we_o be_v in_o sickness_n and_o fear_n of_o death_n we_o shall_v in_o the_o feel_n of_o our_o own_o weakness_n and_o in_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o prayer_n of_o other_o desire_v they_o to_o pray_v for_o we_o and_o not_o only_o to_o pray_v ourselves_o and_o this_o be_v the_o advice_n and_o commandment_n of_o the_o apostle_n be_v any_o among_o you_o afflict_v 5.13.14_o jam._n 5.13.14_o let_v he_o pray_v be_v any_o sick_a among_o you_o let_v he_o call_v for_o the_o elder_n of_o the_o church_n and_o let_v they_o pray_v for_o he_o now_o see_v sickness_n be_v but_o one_o kind_n of_o cross_n and_o the_o lord_n have_v many_o way_n else_o to_o afflict_v we_o in_o any_o of_o they_o we_o and_o grievous_a as_o if_o we_o shall_v be_v distress_v in_o mind_n be_v tempt_v by_o satan_n either_o unto_o sin_n or_o for_o sin_n for_o if_o they_o be_v available_a in_o other_o case_n then_o in_o these_o and_o so_o to_o conclude_v this_o one_o point_n in_o a_o word_n in_o every_o matter_n that_o be_v of_o any_o importance_n either_o for_o ourselves_o or_o for_o any_o of_o we_o we_o ought_v so_o to_o commend_v the_o same_o and_o the_o whole_a success_n of_o they_o unto_o god_n in_o prayer_n who_o must_v only_o bring_v they_o to_o pass_v as_o that_o we_o rest_v not_o therein_o but_o desire_v also_o the_o prayer_n of_o other_o to_o help_v we_o in_o the_o same_o this_o ordinance_n of_o he_o another_o by_o this_o god_n will_v have_v we_o unite_v in_o love_n one_o to_o another_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o so_o and_o thus_o we_o see_v why_o some_o be_v overthrow_v in_o their_o good_a cause_n namely_o they_o seek_v not_o to_o god_n that_o he_o will_v fulfil_v all_o their_o counsel_n but_o think_v themselves_o sufficient_a without_o his_o blessing_n and_o so_o god_n leave_v they_o to_o themselves_o that_o by_o experience_n they_o may_v see_v it_o to_o be_v otherwise_o and_o for_o the_o establish_n and_o enlarge_n of_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o all_o other_o good_a order_n in_o all_o place_n otherwise_o we_o see_v that_o good_a counsel_n may_v be_v give_v but_o not_o follow_v and_o if_o it_o be_v yet_o not_o bring_v to_o pass_v and_o so_o there_o shall_v not_o that_o good_a be_v do_v that_o might_n and_o which_o many_o good_a man_n in_o the_o parliament_n house_n intend_v therefore_o as_o we_o desire_v to_o enjoy_v the_o common_a benefit_n of_o our_o time_n so_o let_v we_o pray_v not_o only_o for_o the_o king_n but_o for_o all_o our_o governor_n in_o the_o church_n and_o commonwealth_n that_o god_n will_v fulfil_v all_o their_o purpose_n then_o ought_v we_o much_o more_o thus_o to_o pray_v for_o our_o self_n if_o we_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n wise_a than_o we_o be_v for_o when_o we_o have_v take_v the_o best_a advice_n and_o thereupon_o do_v thing_n to_o one_o end_n they_o may_v fall_v out_o to_o another_o purpose_n and_o all_o our_o own_o counsel_n and_o purpose_n yea_o clean_a contrary_a to_o that_o which_o we_o purpose_v and_o so_o we_o shall_v be_v disappoint_v as_o for_o example_n in_o matter_n of_o marriage_n which_o be_v a_o ordinary_a thing_n some_o think_v to_o join_v themselves_o or_o their_o child_n in_o alliance_n with_o such_o and_o such_o hope_v thereby_o to_o advance_v their_o house_n marriage_n as_o in_o matter_n of_o marriage_n but_o it_o fall_v out_o otherwise_o and_o by_o that_o mean_v they_o come_v to_o ruin_v and_o so_o god_n do_v not_o fulfil_v their_o purpose_n and_o this_o be_v the_o very_a case_n of_o king_n jehoshaphat_n 21.6_o 2._o chron._n 18.1_o chap._n 21.6_o who_o join_v himself_o in_o affinity_n with_o ahab_n king_n of_o israel_n by_o join_v his_o elder_a son_n jehoram_n in_o marriage_n with_o his_o daughter_n and_o though_o jehoshaphat_n have_v riches_n and_o honour_n in_o abundance_n yet_o the_o king_n of_o israel_n be_v great_a than_o he_o as_o have_v more_o tribe_n
god_n when_o they_o be_v so_o quality_v for_o they_o as_o he_o have_v require_v in_o his_o word_n and_o when_o they_o come_v to_o they_o by_o such_o lawful_a choice_n as_o he_o have_v appoint_v that_o so_o every_o one_o do_v that_o which_o god_n require_v of_o they_o in_o the_o same_o they_o may_v as_o any_o trouble_n shall_v come_v upon_o they_o or_o any_o difficulty_n shall_v befall_v they_o they_o may_v i_o say_v with_o comfort_n and_o in_o faith_n pray_v that_o god_n will_v hear_v and_o help_v they_o they_o be_v his_o anointed_n that_o be_v come_v to_o those_o place_n by_o his_o appointment_n servant_n even_o unto_o the_o mean_a call_v as_o of_o be_v a_o servant_n and_o this_o as_o it_o be_v requisite_a in_o every_o call_n or_o state_n of_o life_n that_o one_o be_v in_o even_o unto_o the_o mean_a to_o be_v persuade_v that_o they_o be_v place_v in_o they_o by_o god_n so_o there_o be_v great_a comfort_n therein_o whatsoever_o shall_v befall_v they_o in_o the_o same_o as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v of_o the_o call_n of_o a_o servant_n 7.17_o 1._o cor._n 7.17_o and_o of_o be_v call_v unto_o the_o estate_n of_o marriage_n and_o say_v of_o they_o and_o of_o all_o other_o general_o that_o as_o god_n have_v distribute_v to_o every_o man_n and_o as_o the_o lord_n have_v call_v every_o one_o so_o let_v he_o walk_v and_o so_o ordain_v i_o in_o all_o church_n where_o he_o warn_v every_o man_n general_o to_o live_v with_o a_o content_a mind_n in_o the_o lord_n what_o state_n or_o condition_n of_o life_n so_o ever_o he_o be_v in_o and_o therefore_o he_o tell_v he_o that_o it_o be_v that_o trade_n of_o life_n which_o god_n have_v distribute_v unto_o they_o &_o which_o he_o have_v call_v they_o unto_o so_o that_o a_o servant_n must_v be_v persuade_v 6.6_o ephe._n 6.6_o that_o god_n have_v call_v he_o to_o that_o place_n and_o therefore_o as_o he_o must_v make_v conscience_n of_o do_v faithful_a service_n not_o to_o the_o eye_n as_o man_n as_o saint_n paul_n in_o the_o same_o place_n bid_v to_o that_o end_n know_v that_o whatsoever_o good_a thing_n any_o man_n do_v the_o same_o shall_v he_o receive_v of_o the_o lord_n whether_o he_o be_v bond_n or_o free_a so_o that_o servant_n be_v persuade_v of_o the_o lawfulness_n of_o their_o call_n and_o of_o their_o own_o fidelity_n in_o the_o same_o may_v pray_v to_o god_n to_o reward_v they_o for_o their_o good_a service_n and_o to_o defend_v they_o in_o a_o good_a cause_n against_o any_o abuse_n that_o their_o master_n shall_v offer_v unto_o they_o and_o so_o for_o the_o other_o estate_n of_o life_n marriage_n and_o of_o be_v call_v to_o the_o state_n of_o marriage_n that_o he_o speak_v of_o there_o if_o any_o be_v call_v unto_o marriage_n they_o must_v not_o only_o be_v persuade_v of_o the_o lawfulness_n of_o it_o and_o that_o god_n have_v call_v they_o unto_o it_o but_o also_o that_o he_o have_v join_v they_o together_o this_o man_n to_o this_o woman_n as_o eve_n in_o paradise_n be_v join_v to_o adam_n by_o the_o immediate_a hand_n of_o god_n and_o so_o that_o they_o come_v not_o together_o by_o fortune_n or_o chance_n or_o by_o the_o will_n and_o consent_n of_o their_o friend_n or_o by_o their_o own_o choice_n only_o but_o by_o god_n &_o that_o their_o marriage_n be_v first_o make_v in_o heaven_n before_o it_o be_v solemnize_v upon_o earth_n and_o therefore_o that_o they_o be_v in_o that_o place_n that_o god_n have_v call_v they_o unto_o then_o may_v they_o with_o comfort_n pray_v for_o all_o such_o gift_n as_o be_v needful_a for_o those_o place_n as_o in_o do_v of_o their_o duty_n that_o the_o lord_n will_v preserve_v they_o from_o all_o cross_n that_o may_v befall_v they_o and_o assist_v they_o in_o they_o and_o general_o that_o he_o will_v hear_v their_o prayer_n and_o send_v they_o help_v from_o heaven_n as_o the_o people_n do_v here_o and_o to_o conclude_v this_o point_n they_o in_o all_o action_n of_o our_o life_n we_o ought_v to_o be_v persuade_v that_o god_n have_v call_v we_o unto_o they_o we_o must_v all_o of_o we_o be_v persuade_v in_o the_o whole_a course_n of_o our_o life_n that_o whatso-we_a do_v we_o have_v a_o call_n to_o it_o from_o god_n and_o so_o therein_o we_o be_v his_o anointed_n that_o be_v appoint_v of_o god_n for_o it_o which_o we_o shall_v ordinary_o know_v by_o this_o that_o the_o thing_n itself_o be_v good_a in_o it_o own_o nature_n and_o agreeable_a to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o command_v there_o and_o then_o that_o by_o virtue_n of_o our_o place_n that_o we_o be_v in_o god_n require_v they_o of_o we_o and_o that_o that_o time_n and_o place_n do_v also_o require_v they_o for_o all_o thing_n be_v not_o require_v of_o all_o man_n alike_o nor_o at_o all_o time_n and_o in_o all_o place_n then_o have_v this_o persuasion_n from_o the_o word_n of_o god_n though_o they_o be_v dangerous_a and_o full_a of_o trouble_n and_o such_o as_o may_v discourage_v we_o we_o may_v confident_o pray_v unto_o god_n to_o assist_v we_o and_o defend_v we_o therein_o and_o to_o help_v we_o in_o all_o affliction_n that_o shall_v befall_v we_o for_o the_o same_o and_o thus_o david_n here_o be_v a_o king_n be_v to_o defend_v his_o subject_n and_o therefore_o their_o enemy_n come_v against_o they_o to_o battle_n he_o go_v forth_o and_o adventure_v himself_o to_o the_o war_n and_o thus_o pray_v unto_o god_n and_o will_v the_o people_n to_o pray_v for_o he_o in_o this_o good_a action_n whereunto_o he_o be_v lawful_o call_v and_o god_n do_v hear_v their_o prayer_n and_o give_v they_o good_a success_n in_o like_a manner_n that_o famous_a and_o worthy_a queen_n hester_n after_o that_o mordecai_n have_v send_v unto_o she_o the_o copy_n of_o the_o king_n letter_n that_o be_v send_v abroad_o by_o post_n for_o the_o root_n out_o of_o the_o jew_n in_o one_o day_n and_o will_v she_o to_o go_v in_o to_o the_o king_n and_o make_v request_n for_o the_o life_n of_o her_o people_n at_o the_o first_o she_o like_v a_o fearful_a woman_n draw_v back_o and_o excuse_v herself_o say_v all_o the_o king_n servant_n and_o all_o the_o people_n of_o the_o province_n know_v 4.11_o hester_n 4.11_o that_o whosoever_o man_n or_o woman_n dangerous_a then_o may_v we_o have_v boldness_n in_o they_o though_o they_o be_v never_o so_o dangerous_a that_o come_v to_o the_o king_n into_o the_o inner_a court_n which_o be_v not_o call_v there_o be_v a_o law_n of_o he_o that_o he_o shall_v die_v except_o to_o he_o who_o the_o king_n hold_v out_o the_o golden_a rod_n that_o he_o may_v live_v now_o i_o have_v not_o be_v call_v to_o come_v to_o the_o king_n these_o thirty_o day_n then_o mordecai_n send_v her_o word_n again_o that_o she_o must_v not_o think_v to_o escape_v in_o the_o king_n house_n more_o than_o all_o the_o jew_n but_o if_o she_o do_v hold_v her_o peace_n at_o this_o time_n deliverance_n shall_v appear_v to_o the_o jew_n out_o of_o another_o place_n but_o she_o and_o her_o father_n house_n shall_v perish_v and_o who_o know_v whether_o she_o be_v come_v to_o the_o kingdom_n for_o such_o a_o time_n thus_o when_o he_o have_v persuade_v she_o by_o good_a reason_n that_o god_n do_v require_v it_o at_o her_o hand_n and_o that_o she_o be_v raise_v up_o out_o of_o a_o mean_a place_n to_o such_o a_o high_a dignity_n by_o the_o lord_n for_o such_o a_o purpose_n and_o that_o god_n will_v require_v it_o at_o her_o hand_n if_o she_o fail_v in_o it_o she_o adventure_v herself_o though_o it_o be_v very_o dangerous_a with_o this_o resolution_n that_o see_v god_n have_v call_v she_o unto_o it_o he_o will_v defend_v she_o in_o it_o but_o howsoever_o it_o shall_v fall_v out_o she_o will_v commit_v herself_o in_o this_o cause_n to_o his_o bless_a providence_n content_v to_o be_v order_v by_o his_o will_n i_o will_v go_v in_o to_o the_o king_n which_o be_v not_o according_a to_o the_o law_n and_o if_o i_o perish_v i_o perish_v but_o in_o the_o mean_a season_n have_v this_o faith_n in_o this_o action_n she_o pray_v to_o god_n to_o assist_v she_o to_o guide_v she_o to_o direct_v she_o and_o to_o bless_v she_o and_o will_v all_o the_o people_n to_o do_v so_o likewise_o say_v go_v 16._o verse_n 16._o and_o assemble_v all_o the_o jew_n that_o
