be_v many_o time_n in_o some_o kind_n of_o picture_n the_o great_a art_n it_o be_v in_o the_o cast_n of_o the_o look_n you_o can_v say_v it_o be_v in_o the_o draw_n of_o this_o line_n or_o the_o other_o line_n but_o altogether_o it_o be_v the_o cast_n of_o the_o look_n that_o cause_v the_o beauty_n of_o the_o picture_n so_o in_o the_o scripture_n you_o can_v say_v that_o this_o one_o line_n the_o new_a testament_n for_o the_o order_n of_o the_o church_n in_o the_o new_a testament_n as_o you_o have_v not_o express_v command_n for_o abundance_n of_o thing_n but_o sometime_o a_o example_n in_o some_o thing_n and_o sometime_o not_o a_o clear_a example_n neither_o but_o compare_v one_o thing_n with_o another_o and_o that_o which_o seem_v to_o be_v near_o the_o mind_n of_o god_n that_o the_o heathen_n that_o be_v corporeal_a than_o it_o be_v another_o matter_n then_o bodily_a worship_n will_v serve_v the_o turn_n but_o god_n be_v a_o spirit_n he_o must_v have_v spiritual_a worship_n worship_n therefore_o it_o be_v the_o soul_n that_o god_n do_v principal_o look_v at_o in_o holy_a duty_n if_o you_o be_v not_o able_a to_o worship_n god_n in_o your_o body_n you_o may_v worship_v he_o in_o your_o soul_n and_o god_n regard_v that_o bodily_a exercise_n in_o holy_a duty_n be_v little_a worth_n somewhat_o it_o may_v be_v worth_a i_o confess_v sometime_o bodily_a exercise_n may_v further_o the_o soul_n as_o a_o reverend_a carriage_n of_o the_o body_n and_o the_o like_a but_o it_o be_v nothing_o in_o comparison_n the_o great_a work_n be_v the_o work_n of_o the_o soul_n for_o god_n be_v a_o spirit_n and_o must_v be_v worship_v in_o spirit_n and_o god_n be_v say_v to_o be_v a_o spirit_n not_o only_o in_o that_o he_o be_v not_o of_o so_o thick_a a_o corporal_a substance_n but_o it_o note_v the_o simplicity_n of_o god_n he_o be_v without_o any_o composition_n whatsoever_o be_v in_o god_n be_v god_n himself_o he_o be_v absolute_o one_o there_o be_v not_o divers_a thing_n in_o god_n now_o then_o those_o that_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o must_v worship_v he_o in_o spirit_n and_o in_o truth_n
the_o more_o i_o have_v of_o these_o the_o more_o shall_v i_o enjoy_v of_o god_n the_o more_o happy_a shall_v i_o be_v both_o here_o and_o for_o ever_o now_o i_o have_v think_v to_o have_v give_v we_o do_v not_o do_v it_o as_o in_o all_o communion_n of_o saint_n there_o be_v a_o duty_n and_o there_o be_v not_o any_o one_o but_o may_v do_v something_o towards_o it_o thus_o far_o every_o communicant_a in_o every_o communion_n of_o saint_n must_v go_v if_o there_o be_v a_o wicked_a man_n there_o if_o you_o come_v to_o know_v it_o and_o do_v not_o go_v thus_o far_o as_o i_o have_v speak_v unto_o solomon_n and_o bid_v he_o ask_v what_o he_o shall_v give_v he_o i_o very_o believe_v there_o be_v many_o in_o this_o congregation_n that_o have_v already_o good_a assurance_n of_o god_n love_n in_o christ_n if_o they_o have_v not_o that_o that_o will_v be_v the_o main_a thing_n that_o they_o will_v ask_v but_o have_v attain_v that_o if_o god_n will_v speak_v from_o heaven_n and_o say_v what_o shall_v i_o give_v you_o for_o yourselves_o if_o he_o shall_v ask_v you_o in_o the_o general_n it_o may_v be_v you_o will_v ask_v something_o for_o the_o church_n but_o if_o it_o be_v for_o yourselves_o you_o will_v put_v up_o this_o petition_n oh_o lord_n that_o i_o may_v be_v deliver_v from_o a_o wander_a spirit_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o especial_o in_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n and_o the_o perform_v a_o duty_n in_o that_o place_n be_v more_o acceptable_a to_o god_n than_o in_o another_o place_n but_o now_o though_o we_o can_v make_v our_o time_n holy_a in_o that_o second_o sense_n yet_o in_o the_o first_o it_o be_v time_n set_v apart_o for_o a_o holy_a use_n and_o in_o that_o
offer_v to_o god_n without_o spot_n that_o our_o conscience_n may_v be_v purge_v from_o dead_a work_n that_o we_o may_v be_v purge_v from_o that_o natural_a filthiness_n and_o uncleanness_n in_o which_o we_o all_o be_v for_o the_o whole_a world_n do_v lie_v in_o filth_n as_o a_o carrion_n do_v lie_v in_o his_o slime_n now_o if_o we_o will_v worship_v god_n so_o as_o to_o sanctify_v he_o we_o must_v apply_v christ_n to_o our_o soul_n and_o get_v our_o conscience_n purge_v from_o dead_a work_n and_o to_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n in_o we_o to_o quicken_v up_o our_o heart_n in_o the_o way_n of_o holiness_n to_o have_v the_o image_n of_o jesus_n christ_n in_o we_o whereby_o we_o may_v be_v holy_a according_a to_o our_o proportion_n even_o as_o he_o himself_o be_v holy_a this_o be_v the_o sanctify_a of_o the_o heart_n there_o must_v be_v a_o habitual_a sanctification_n and_o a_o actual_a sanctification_n of_o the_o heart_n a_o habitual_a that_o be_v that_o the_o heart_n must_v be_v change_v through_o the_o work_n of_o regeneration_n there_o must_v be_v a_o regeneration_n in_o the_o heart_n there_o must_v be_v divine_a principle_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o the_o heart_n but_o you_o will_v say_v may_v not_o a_o unregenerate_a man_n pray_v to_o that_o i_o answer_v it_o be_v true_a it_o be_v his_o duty_n to_o pray_v pour_v forth_o thy_o wrath_n upon_o the_o heathen_a and_o upon_o the_o family_n that_o call_v not_o upon_o thy_o name_n but_o it_o be_v as_o true_a that_o they_o can_v sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o do_v of_o it_o but_o if_o we_o will_v sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o it_o there_o must_v be_v a_o habitual_a holiness_n in_o the_o heart_n for_o every_o thing_n do_v act_n according_a to_o its_o principle_n in_o nature_n it_o be_v so_o and_o so_o do_v the_o heart_n when_o it_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n it_o do_v act_n according_a to_o the_o principle_n that_o it_o have_v and_o then_o there_o must_v not_o only_o be_v habitual_a sanctification_n but_o actual_a sanctification_n likewise_o as_o in_o exod._n 19.10.11_o there_o you_o see_v what_o ado_n there_o be_v to_o fit_v they_o for_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o law_n because_o god_n be_v to_o come_v among_o they_o god_n be_v to_o come_v among_o we_o and_o we_o be_v to_o come_v to_o god_n when_o we_o be_v to_o perform_v holy_a duty_n therefore_o it_o person_n of_o man_n because_o they_o do_v good_a action_n but_o god_n accept_v of_o the_o action_n of_o man_n because_o their_o person_n be_v good_a if_o indeed_o we_o see_v a_o man_n do_v good_a than_o we_o love_v he_o and_o accept_v of_o the_o person_n of_o the_o man_n but_o god_n first_o will_v accept_v of_o the_o person_n before_o the_o action_n as_o the_o lord_n acept_v of_o abel_n first_o and_o then_o he_o accept_v his_o offering_n so_o you_o must_v look_v to_o that_o to_o have_v your_o person_n first_o accept_v of_o god_n before_o any_o duty_n can_v be_v accept_v you_o think_v though_o you_o be_v wicked_a and_o sinful_a yet_o if_o you_o amend_v your_o life_n god_n will_v accept_v of_o you_o you_o go_v that_o way_n to_o work_v but_o certain_o that_o be_v the_o wrong_a way_n you_o must_v first_o look_v after_o mean_n of_o acception_n of_o your_o person_n which_o be_v through_o the_o righteousness_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o through_o the_o sanctification_n ot_fw-mi his_o spirit_n whereby_o you_o come_v to_o have_v his_o image_n and_o life_n and_o so_o be_v accept_v and_o then_o all_o that_o proceed_v from_o you_o come_v to_o be_v accept_v there_o be_v not_o whether_o it_o be_v from_o the_o general_a bounty_n and_o patience_n of_o god_n or_o from_o the_o special_a love_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n our_o heart_n will_v regard_v that_o most_o if_o we_o be_v spiritual_a now_o then_o look_v as_o a_o godly_a man_n be_v not_o satisfy_v with_o enjoy_v any_o good_a thing_n from_o god_n except_o he_o know_v it_o come_v from_o a_o principle_n of_o love_n to_o he_o in_o jesus_n christ_n so_o god_n be_v not_o please_v with_o any_o thing_n that_o come_v from_o we_o except_o he_o know_v that_o it_o come_v from_o a_o principle_n of_o love_n grace_n and_o holiness_n in_o our_o heart_n 3_o three_o according_a as_o the_o heart_n be_v so_o will_v the_o service_n be_v certain_o if_o the_o heart_n be_v unclean_a the_o duty_n will_v be_v unclean_a perhaps_o the_o word_n may_v be_v fine_a and_o brave_a but_o if_o there_o be_v a_o unclean_a heart_n the_o duty_n will_v be_v unclean_a as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o man_n that_o have_v the_o plague_n suppose_v he_o make_v a_o brave_a oration_n yet_o his_o breath_n be_v infectious_a so_o it_o be_v in_o our_o service_n with_o god_n if_o so_o be_v that_o our_o heart_n within_o we_o have_v the_o plague_n then_o certain_o the_o breath_n that_o come_v from_o we_o all_o our_o duty_n will_v be_v unclean_a and_o therefore_o that_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n that_o we_o be_v to_o look_v for_o in_o the_o sanctify_a god_n name_v in_o holy_a duty_n look_v to_o have_v thy_o heart_n sanctify_v and_o consider_v from_o what_o principle_n it_o come_v it_o be_v for_o want_n of_o this_o that_o thousand_o of_o our_o duty_n be_v cast_v aside_o and_o god_n never_o do_v regard_v they_o but_o this_o be_v the_o first_o particular_a there_o be_v many_o more_o to_o speak_v of_o sermon_n v._n leviticus_n perform_v duty_n of_o god_n worship_n we_o may_v expect_v to_o receive_v some_o good_a to_o ourselves_o and_o we_o may_v be_v encourage_v to_o the_o duty_n by_o the_o expectation_n of_o good_a to_o ourselves_o yet_o we_o must_v look_v high_a we_o must_v look_v at_o the_o honour_n and_o praise_n of_o god_n that_o the_o name_n of_o the_o bless_a god_n may_v be_v honour_v now_o i_o be_o go_v to_o prayer_n oh_o that_o i_o may_v pray_v so_o as_o i_o may_v lift_v up_o god_n name_n i_o be_o go_v to_o hear_v oh_o that_o i_o may_v hear_v so_o as_o god_n may_v be_v honour_v by_o my_o hear_n it_o be_v this_o that_o carry_v i_o on_o to_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o make_v i_o rise_v ready_o and_o to_o go_v forth_o cheerful_o i_o hope_v that_o god_n may_v have_v some_o honour_n by_o my_o hear_v this_o day_n &_o god_n know_v that_o this_o be_v the_o thing_n that_o i_o aim_v at_o i_o do_v not_o come_v for_o company_n nor_o to_o be_v see_v of_o man_n neither_o do_v i_o come_v mere_o to_o satisfy_v conscience_n will_v not_o let_v i_o be_v quiet_a howsoever_o there_o be_v many_o who_o conscience_n will_v be_v quiet_a enough_o though_o they_o lose_v a_o opportunity_n in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n but_o yet_o there_o be_v other_o who_o conscience_n can_v do_v so_o their_o conscience_n will_v tell_v they_o when_o they_o be_v lie_v and_o turn_v themselves_o upon_o their_o bed_n how_o do_v you_o know_v but_o that_o god_n have_v something_o to_o speak_v to_o thy_o heart_n this_o morning_n that_o may_v never_o be_v speak_v to_o thy_o heart_n at_o any_o other_o time_n therefore_o they_o can_v be_v at_o quiet_a except_o they_o attend_v upon_o god_n in_o the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n but_o still_o this_o be_v not_o enough_o mere_o to_o satisfy_v conscience_n thy_o main_a end_n it_o must_v be_v that_o thou_o may_v this_o day_n know_v some_o part_n of_o the_o mind_n of_o god_n that_o god_n may_v speak_v to_o thy_o heart_n that_o so_o thou_o may_v be_v fit_v to_o honour_v the_o name_n of_o god_n that_o thou_o may_v be_v enable_v to_o live_v to_o his_o honour_n the_o week_n follow_v so_o much_o the_o better_o as_o in_o this_o manner_n thy_o thought_n shall_v be_v lord_n i_o find_v a_o drossy_a carnal_a heart_n i_o be_o busy_a in_o the_o world_n in_o the_o week_n time_n and_o i_o find_v that_o my_o heart_n be_v sully_v and_o defile_v with_o the_o business_n of_o the_o world_n and_o entangle_v but_o lord_n thou_o have_v appoint_v thy_o sabbath_n and_o word_n to_o be_v a_o mean_n to_o sanctify_v my_o heart_n and_o to_o cleanse_v it_o oh_o lord_n communicate_v thy_o grace_n to_o my_o soul_n through_o thy_o ordinance_n upon_o this_o day_n that_o so_o i_o may_v be_v enable_v the_o week_n follow_v the_o better_a to_o live_v to_o thy_o honour_n lord_n i_o come_v little_a any_o duty_n where_o self_n be_v the_o high_a end_n the_o first_o be_v in_o hos_n 7.14_o they_o howl_v upon_o their_o bed_n say_v the_o text_n there_o but_o they_o cry_v not_o to_o i_o the_o lord_n there_o do_v acknowledge_v that_o they_o be_v very_o much_o affect_v in_o their_o prayer_n but_o what_o be_v it_o it_o be_v but_o a_o howl_n upon_o their_o bed_n and_o how_o so_o it_o be_v because_o only_o they_o do_v cry_v for_o themselves_o they_o have_v not_o cry_v unto_o i_o say_v the_o lord_n with_o their_o heart_n when_o they_o howl_v upon_o their_o bed_n it_o be_v but_o mere_o for_o corn_n and_o wine_n and_o oil_n but_o not_o unto_o i_o they_o aim_v at_o themselves_o and_o not_o at_o i_o and_o in_o amos_n 5.22_o there_o the_o lord_n profess_v that_o he_o do_v reject_v the_o fat_a of_o their_o peace-offering_n though_o you_o offer_v i_o say_v he_o burnt-offering_n and_o your_o meat-offering_n i_o will_v not_o accept_v they_o neither_o will_v i_o regard_v the_o peace-offering_n of_o your_o fat_a beast_n they_o be_v careful_a to_o offer_v their_o fat_a beast_n in_o their_o peace-offering_n and_o will_v not_o god_n regard_v they_o it_o be_v in_o their_o peace-offering_n that_o they_o offer_v their_o fat_a beast_n and_o there_o they_o be_v to_o eat_v a_o great_a part_n of_o it_o themselves_o indeed_o the_o burnt-offering_a be_v whole_o offer_v unto_o god_n god_n have_v all_o that_o but_o the_o peace-offering_a those_o that_o do_v offer_v it_o they_o do_v eat_v a_o great_a part_n of_o it_o themselves_o now_o they_o be_v very_o careful_a in_o those_o offering_n that_o they_o be_v to_o partake_v of_o themselves_o to_o offer_v fat_a beast_n you_o do_v not_o see_v that_o the_o holy-ghost_n take_v any_o notice_n of_o fat_a beast_n in_o their_o burnt-offering_n now_o the_o note_n from_o hence_o be_v this_o that_o in_o those_o thing_n where_o man_n be_v interest_v themselves_o they_o will_v be_v very_o careful_a to_o have_v the_o best_a thing_n but_o now_o the_o lord_n reject_v the_o fat_a beast_n of_o their_o peace-offering_n say_v god_n you_o be_v very_o careful_a to_o offer_v fat_a beast_n in_o your_o peace-offering_n where_o you_o may_v feed_v yourselves_o but_o for_o those_o offering_n wherein_o i_o have_v all_o there_o you_o be_v not_o so_o careful_a and_o therefore_o i_o regard_v they_o not_o the_o three_o scripture_n and_o there_o be_v a_o crowd_n of_o people_n without_o that_o will_v come_v in_o perhaps_o the_o man_n do_v open_v the_o door_n for_o some_o gentleman_n that_o be_v hear_v be_v at_o the_o door_n but_o when_o he_o open_v it_o for_o one_o that_o be_v to_o come_v in_o forty_o other_o will_v

stamp_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n there_o be_v two_o question_n that_o he_o will_v ask_v first_o who_o require_v this_o at_o your_o hand_n but_o then_o if_o you_o can_v answer_v thus_o thou_o o_o lord_n do_v require_v it_o it_o be_v well_o but_o then_o god_n have_v another_o question_n who_o image_n and_o superscription_n be_v this_o if_o thou_o can_v not_o give_v a_o answer_n to_o that_o it_o will_v be_v reject_v too_o thou_o must_v be_v act_v by_o divine_a principle_n in_o all_o that_o thou_o do_v there_o must_v be_v the_o stamp_n of_o the_o spirit_n the_o strength_n of_o natural_a part_n they_o may_v be_v as_o large_a as_o other_o and_o speak_v to_o the_o edification_n of_o other_o but_o those_o duty_n do_v never_o change_v their_o heart_n now_o if_o thou_o be_v actd_a by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n thou_o will_v be_v change_v into_o the_o very_a image_n of_o his_o spirit_n 2_o second_o if_o man_n be_v act_v by_o natural_a part_n they_o will_v not_o carry_v they_o through_o difficulty_n and_o discouragement_n but_o now_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n if_o thou_o have_v act_v by_o he_o though_o thou_o do_v meet_v with_o never_o such_o difficulty_n and_o discouragement_n thou_o will_v be_v carry_v through_o they_o all_o 3_o thou_o may_v know_v it_o by_o this_o wherein_o do_v thou_o account_v the_o excellency_n of_o a_o duty_n to_o consist_v either_o in_o thyself_o or_o other_o thou_o perform_v a_o duty_n now_o it_o may_v be_v thy_o part_n do_v act_v very_o lively_a and_o to_o thy_o credit_n and_o yet_o thy_o conscience_n tell_v thou_o that_o thy_o heart_n be_v streighten_v now_o can_v thou_o rise_v up_o with_o joy_n because_o thou_o have_v thy_o end_n at_o another_o time_n perhaps_o thy_o heart_n be_v more_o trouble_v and_o break_v but_o thou_o do_v not_o express_v thyself_o so_o much_o than_o thou_o be_v discourage_v and_o when_o thou_o see_v another_o perform_v a_o duty_n if_o thou_o see_v but_o any_o fail_n in_o their_o expression_n thou_o pitche_v upon_o that_o and_o look_v upon_o it_o as_o a_o poor_a thing_n thou_o be_v not_o able_a to_o see_v a_o excellency_n in_o holy_a duty_n except_o there_o be_v a_o excellency_n of_o natural_a part_n but_o those_o that_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n they_o can_v find_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n act_v in_o other_o though_o they_o have_v not_o such_o natural_a part_n 4_o those_o that_o be_v act_v by_o their_o natural_a part_n in_o secret_a they_o be_v less_o enlarge_v than_o they_o be_v before_o other_o a_o great_a deal_n their_o part_n act_n much_o before_o other_o but_o what_o be_v there_o between_o god_n and_o their_o own_o soul_n 5_o they_o that_o be_v so_o act_v will_v not_o be_v very_o constant_a you_o shall_v have_v young_a one_o that_o begin_v to_o look_v towards_o religion_n their_o part_n be_v a_o little_a fresh_a and_o they_o be_v mighty_o enlarge_v in_o holy_a duty_n and_o the_o thing_n be_v good_a for_o they_o to_o make_v use_n of_o their_o part_n but_o how_o ordinary_a it_o be_v that_o after_o a_o few_o year_n they_o be_v
one_o and_o afterward_o they_o have_v fall_v off_o they_o be_v wont_v constant_o in_o their_o family_n and_o in_o secret_a in_o their_o chamber_n to_o be_v worship_v of_o god_n and_o they_o account_v it_o the_o very_a joy_n of_o their_o life_n for_o the_o present_a to_o be_v worship_v of_o god_n but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o they_o now_o as_o it_o be_v yea_o they_o be_v fall_v off_o it_o may_v be_v from_o their_o very_a profession_n of_o religion_n and_o turn_v loose_v and_o now_o to_o be_v in_o vain_a company_n to_o drink_v or_o play_v be_v better_a to_o they_o than_o any_o service_n or_o worship_n of_o god_n they_o prize_v more_o to_o be_v in_o company_n with_o their_o sport_n than_o to_o hear_v a_o sermon_n or_o to_o be_v in_o communion_n with_o the_o people_n of_o god_n in_o prayer_n heretofore_o they_o will_v not_o have_v change_v one_o short_a time_n of_o private_a communion_n with_o god_n for_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o pleasure_n and_o content_a in_o the_o world_n but_o now_o it_o be_v otherwise_o with_o they_o how_o come_v it_o to_o pass_v that_o these_o be_v apostatise_v thus_o from_o god_n sure_o here_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o it_o that_o they_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n at_o the_o most_o it_o be_v but_o a_o work_n of_o conscience_n that_o put_v they_o upon_o they_o and_o they_o have_v but_o some_o flash_n there_o be_v no_o real_a sanctification_n of_o their_o heart_n whereby_o they_o do_v sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o upon_o this_o it_o be_v that_o they_o have_v leave_v off_o this_o i_o dare_v say_v that_o there_o be_v never_o any_o soul_n that_o do_v know_v what_o it_o be_v to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o worship_n that_o ever_o be_v weary_a of_o worship_v god_n it_o may_v be_v some_o of_o you_o may_v say_v we_o have_v hear_v that_o there_o be_v much_o require_v in_o sanctify_a god_n name_v in_o duty_n and_o that_o be_v the_o only_a way_n to_o weary_a the_o soul_n and_o to_o make_v it_o fall_v off_o oh_o no_o as_o we_o say_v the_o last_o day_n there_o be_v not_o any_o one_o thing_n that_o have_v be_v open_v for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o duty_n that_o any_o gracious_a heart_n can_v tell_v how_o to_o miss_v and_o the_o more_o we_o do_v sanctify_v his_o name_n the_o more_o we_o shall_v be_v in_o love_n with_o worship_n for_o it_o be_v from_o hence_o that_o those_o that_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o worship_n will_v hold_v out_o because_o they_o will_v find_v the_o sweetness_n of_o worship_n they_o will_v meet_v with_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n and_o so_o they_o come_v to_o be_v encourage_v in_o worship_n but_o as_o for_o other_o who_o do_v worship_n god_n in_o a_o formal_a way_n their_o worship_n will_v prove_v to_o be_v tedious_a to_o they_o for_o they_o perform_v the_o duty_n but_o do_v not_o find_v god_n in_o the_o duty_n in_o that_o spiritual_a way_n as_o the_o saint_n do_v if_o they_o think_v they_o meet_v with_o god_n it_o be_v but_o a_o imagination_n rather_o than_o any_o real_a meeting_n with_o he_o they_o do_v not_o find_v the_o influence_n of_o god_n in_o their_o soul_n in_o holy_a duty_n so_o as_o those_o do_v that_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n here_o than_o you_o see_v the_o reason_n why_o we_o be_v to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n now_o then_o for_o the_o application_n of_o all_o this_o 1_o if_o all_o this_o which_o you_o have_v hear_v be_v require_v of_o we_o for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n hence_o we_o see_v how_o little_a cause_n we_o have_v to_o rest_v upon_o any_o duty_n of_o worship_n that_o we_o do_v perform_v certain_o the_o duty_n of_o worship_n that_o we_o perform_v be_v no_o such_o thing_n as_o be_v fit_a to_o be_v rest_v upon_o for_o life_n and_o for_o salvation_n and_o yet_o for_o the_o most_o part_n there_o be_v scarce_o any_o thing_n that_o people_n have_v to_o rest_v upon_o or_o to_o tender_v up_o to_o god_n for_o acception_n to_o eternal_a life_n but_o only_o their_o prayer_n and_o their_o come_n to_o hear_v and_o receive_v of_o the_o communion_n and_o such_o duty_n that_o they_o perform_v this_o be_v all_o they_o have_v to_o tender_v up_o for_o life_n and_o for_o salvation_n perhaps_o they_o may_v sometime_o speak_v of_o christ_n but_o the_o truth_n be_v that_o which_o their_o heart_n rest_v upon_o for_o acceptation_n to_o eternal_a life_n be_v this_o and_o be_v it_o but_o this_o it_o be_v a_o weak_a prop_n a_o rot_a reed_n that_o thou_o have_v to_o rest_v upon_o let_v the_o duty_n of_o worship_n be_v perform_v never_o so_o well_o suppose_v we_o do_v sanctify_v god_n name_n to_o the_o uttermost_a that_o be_v possible_a for_o any_o creature_n to_o do_v in_o this_o world_n yet_o such_o duty_n be_v not_o to_o be_v rest_v upon_o abraham_n isaac_n and_o jacob_n and_o the_o apostle_n the_o most_o holy_a man_n that_o ever_o do_v perform_v duty_n in_o the_o most_o holy_a manner_n yet_o woe_n to_o they_o if_o they_o have_v nothing_o to_o rest_v upon_o but_o their_o duty_n consider_v therefore_o of_o this_o that_o what_o thou_o must_v rest_v upon_o for_o acceptation_n to_o eternal_a life_n it_o must_v be_v that_o that_o must_v have_v so_o much_o worth_n in_o it_o as_o must_v satisfy_v for_o all_o thy_o sin_n that_o former_o thou_o have_v commit_v yea_o and_o for_o all_o the_o sin_n that_o ever_o thou_o shall_v commit_v now_o i_o appeal_v unto_o any_o one_o conscience_n be_v that_o which_o thou_o perform_v as_o prayer_n or_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n or_o hear_v of_o the_o word_n such_o a_o work_n as_o in_o thy_o conscience_n thou_o can_v think_v it_o have_v so_o much_o worth_n in_o it_o as_o to_o satisfy_v god_n for_o all_o the_o sin_n that_o ever_o thou_o do_v or_o shall_v commit_v i_o be_o persuade_v if_o people_n that_o have_v rest_v upon_o duty_n heretofore_o will_v but_o serious_o have_v this_o thought_n in_o their_o mind_n that_o i_o must_v rest_v upon_o nothing_o for_o my_o acceptation_n for_o life_n and_o salvation_n but_o that_o that_o must_v have_v such_o worth_n in_o it_o as_o to_o satisfy_v god_n for_o all_o my_o sin_n that_o ever_o have_v be_v commit_v or_o shall_v be_v commit_v this_o will_v take_v they_o off_o for_o ever_o from_o rest_v in_o duty_n yea_o and_o it_o must_v be_v such_o as_o must_v be_v the_o object_n of_o the_o infinite_a holiness_n of_o god_n to_o take_v content_a in_o sure_o the_o duty_n that_o we_o perform_v be_v no_o such_o duty_n to_o rest_n upon_o the_o truth_n be_v if_o we_o will_v serious_o consider_v what_o they_o be_v as_o they_o come_v from_o we_o we_o will_v even_o abhor_v ourselves_o in_o dust_n and_o ash_n and_o account_v of_o they_o as_o the_o prophet_n speak_v of_o his_o own_o righteousness_n as_o menstruous_a clothes_n they_o be_v such_o as_o if_o god_n shall_v deal_v with_o we_o as_o just_o he_o may_v do_v he_o may_v cast_v they_o and_o we_o to_o the_o dog_n for_o they_o be_v as_o the_o prophet_n say_v tear_v and_o rend_v sacrifice_n now_o if_o a_o man_n in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o law_n shall_v bring_v to_o the_o lord_n a_o sacrifice_n that_o be_v all_o tear_v and_o rend_v before_o he_o bring_v it_o will_v such_o a_o sacrifice_n have_v be_v accept_v all_o the_o duty_n we_o perform_v as_o they_o come_v from_o we_o they_o be_v such_o we_o read_v in_o exod._n 22.31_o concern_v such_o thing_n as_o be_v tear_v and_o rend_v that_o they_o shall_v cast_v they_o to_o the_o dog_n you_o shall_v be_v holy_a man_n unto_o i_o say_v he_o verse_n ult_n neither_o do_v rest_n upon_o they_o for_o their_o acceptation_n to_o eternal_a life_n

forbid_v have_v not_o i_o pray_v and_o hear_v the_o word_n much_o and_o receive_v the_o communion_n often_o and_o yet_o have_v i_o never_o honour_v god_n if_o thou_o have_v not_o be_v acquaint_v with_o this_o mystery_n of_o godliness_n in_o sanctify_v his_o name_n in_o these_o thing_n this_o be_v say_v from_o god_n to_o thou_o this_o morning_n that_o thou_o have_v never_o do_v any_o one_o action_n to_o the_o honour_n of_o god_n thou_o have_v need_v begin_v present_o for_o thy_o time_n be_v not_o long_o and_o will_v thou_o go_v our_o of_o this_o world_n and_o the_o name_n of_o god_n never_o to_o be_v honour_v by_o thou_o yea_o and_o further_o thou_o have_v lose_v all_o thy_o duty_n all_o the_o time_n have_v be_v lose_v that_o thou_o have_v be_v in_o performance_n of_o duty_n now_o it_o be_v a_o ill_a thing_n to_o idle_a away_o time_n in_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n when_o a_o man_n have_v a_o opportunity_n for_o to_o gain_v in_o the_o world_n if_o so_o be_v he_o lose_v his_o time_n and_o neglect_v it_o we_o account_v it_o a_o very_a sad_a thing_n to_o he_o but_o now_o to_o lose_v our_o trade_a time_n for_o heaven_n for_o the_o time_n of_o the_o worship_v of_o god_n be_v our_o our_o trade_a time_n for_o heaven_n that_o be_v sad_a indeed_o and_o yet_o thou_o that_o make_v not_o conscience_n of_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n all_o the_o time_n thou_o have_v spend_v be_v lose_v and_o yet_o further_o you_o that_o have_v be_v false_a in_o the_o performance_n of_o duty_n and_o hypocrite_n not_o only_o all_o your_o pain_n and_o labour_n be_v quite_o lose_v for_o if_o that_o be_v so_o it_o may_v be_v well_o with_o you_o but_o you_o have_v aggravate_v your_o sin_n by_o your_o holy_a duty_n those_o duty_n that_o other_o have_v enjoy_v communion_n with_o god_n in_o and_o further_v their_o eternal_a life_n by_o thou_o have_v aggravate_v thy_o sin_n by_o they_o yet_o it_o be_v thy_o duty_n to_o do_v they_o but_o i_o say_v by_o not_o sanctify_v of_o god_n name_n thou_o have_v aggravate_v thy_o sin_n so_o much_o the_o more_o as_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a they_o work_v out_o their_o salvation_n even_o in_o their_o natural_a action_n they_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o eat_v and_o drink_v and_o follow_v their_o business_n they_o perform_v those_o action_n in_o such_o a_o holy_a manner_n as_o they_o honour_v god_n in_o they_o and_o further_o their_o eternal_a peace_n but_o as_o they_o in_o their_o natural_a and_o civil_a action_n work_v out_o their_o salvation_n so_o thou_o in_o the_o very_o religious_a action_n do_v work_v out_o thy_o damnation_n certain_o wicked_a man_n that_o be_v not_o acquaint_v with_o this_o work_n of_o godliness_n to_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n they_o work_v out_o their_o damnation_n even_o in_o the_o performance_n of_o they_o you_o will_v say_v then_o they_o have_v better_a not_o do_v they_o yes_o they_o be_v bind_v to_o do_v they_o but_o they_o be_v bind_v to_o do_v they_o in_o a_o right_a manner_n as_o sometime_o i_o have_v give_v you_o this_o instance_n and_o it_o be_v a_o full_a and_o a_o clear_a one_o to_o show_v that_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o perform_v holy_a duty_n and_o not_o to_o leave_v they_o undo_v and_o yet_o they_o may_v further_o their_o own_o damnation_n while_o they_o be_v do_v of_o they_o as_o for_o example_n if_o so_o be_v that_o a_o prince_n shall_v appoint_v a_o man_n to_o come_v into_o his_o presence_n such_o a_o day_n to_o petition_v for_o his_o life_n which_o he_o have_v forfeit_v by_o the_o law_n if_o he_o do_v not_o come_v he_o may_v be_v a_o dead_a man_n but_o now_o if_o this_o man_n be_v drink_v on_o that_o day_n and_o come_v drink_v into_o the_o king_n presence_n he_o may_v be_v a_o dead_a man_n too_o for_o presume_v to_o come_v drink_v before_o he_o so_o wicked_a and_o ungodly_a man_n whether_o they_o worship_v or_o worship_v not_o they_o be_v in_o danger_n to_o perish_v but_o of_o this_o more_o when_o we_o come_v to_o show_v that_o god_n will_v be_v sanctify_v in_o the_o four_o place_n here_o be_v a_o use_n of_o exhortation_n that_o see_v we_o have_v this_o truth_n thus_o present_v to_o we_o and_o open_v before_o we_o oh_o that_o we_o have_v heart_n to_o apply_v ourselves_o now_o to_o it_o with_o all_o our_o might_n to_o seek_v to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n when_o we_o draw_v in_o hypocrisy_n and_o in_o formality_n they_o have_v be_v blast_v in_o their_o part_n and_o common_a gift_n the_o judgement_n of_o god_n upon_o nadab_n and_o abihu_n that_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_v it_o be_v secret_a at_o first_o it_o strike_v they_o dead_a and_o though_o by_o fire_n yet_o if_o you_o read_v the_o story_n you_o shall_v find_v that_o their_o clothes_n be_v not_o on_o his_o part_n and_o the_o seal_n on_o we_o sure_o this_o must_v needs_o call_v for_o a_o sanctify_v use_n of_o such_o a_o thing_n as_o be_v so_o holy_a as_o this_o be_v and_o that_o be_v the_o the_o use_n of_o it_o second_o consider_v this_o that_o there_o be_v no_o duty_n in_o all_o the_o book_n of_o god_n that_o i_o know_v of_o that_o be_v urge_v with_o more_o strength_n and_o severity_n than_o this_o be_v as_o that_o place_n in_o 1_o cor._n 11._o show_v where_o you_o have_v require_v of_o every_o one_o that_o come_v to_o receive_v the_o bread_n and_o wine_n in_o the_o lord_n supper_n know_v david_n cry_v out_o lord_n deliver_v i_o from_o bloodguiltiness_n to_o have_v but_o the_o blood_n of_o a_o ordinary_a man_n to_o lie_v upon_o one_o to_o shed_v the_o blood_n of_o the_o vilede_a day_n though_o he_o have_v never_o such_o a_o sear_a conscience_n a_o heathen_a can_v not_o be_v at_o quiet_a if_o he_o have_v the_o guilt_n of_o blood_n lie_v upon_o he_o but_o to_o be_v guilty_a of_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n who_o blood_n be_v ten_o thousand_o thousand_o time_n more_o worth_a than_o the_o blood_n of_o all_o the_o man_n that_o ever_o live_v upon_o the_o face_n of_o the_o earth_n must_v need_v be_v a_o most_o dreadful_a thing_n it_o be_v a_o fearful_a expression_n guilty_a of_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n that_o be_v he_o offer_v such_o a_o indignity_n to_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n as_o the_o lord_n will_v charge_v he_o of_o be_v guilty_a of_o it_o guilty_a of_o abuse_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o then_o he_o do_v eat_v and_o drink_v his_o own_o damnation_n but_o we_o shall_v speak_v more_o to_o that_o when_o we_o come_v to_o show_v how_o god_n will_v sanctify_v his_o name_n in_o those_o that_o do_v not_o sanctify_v it_o here_o in_o this_o holy_a ordinance_n i_o will_v not_o therefore_o spend_v further_a time_n in_o those_o scripture_n for_o i_o bring_v they_o only_o now_o to_o show_v that_o there_o be_v a_o necessity_n of_o it_o that_o we_o do_v sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o this_o ordinance_n three_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o strike_v more_o upon_o a_o man_n conscience_n
