with_o god_n people_n hereby_o to_o throw_v off_o the_o work_n but_o that_o notwithstanding_o all_o this_o they_o be_v resolve_v to_o pray_v though_o they_o perish_v to_o believe_v to_o obey_v though_o god_n shall_v never_o reward_v their_o obedience_n yet_o he_o have_v a_o second_o end_n he_o labour_v to_o discourage_v god_n people_n hereby_o in_o the_o work_n and_o to_o make_v they_o drive_v heavy_o in_o their_o way_n to_o heaven_n satan_n know_v full_a well_o that_o if_o their_o heart_n be_v discourage_v in_o the_o work_n their_o hand_n will_v be_v weaken_v for_o the_o work_n and_o therefore_o he_o labour_v by_o such_o precedent_n as_o these_o be_v who_o have_v do_v so_o much_o in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o be_v unsound_a to_o make_v man_n sit_v down_o discourage_v and_o despair_v of_o ever_o do_v good_a in_o these_o way_n why_o will_v satan_n say_v how_o can_v thou_o do_v more_o than_o such_o and_o such_o have_v do_v can_v thou_o pray_v more_o prayer_n hear_v more_o sermon_n do_v more_o duty_n keep_v more_o day_n engage_v thyself_o more_o deep_o in_o the_o cause_n of_o god_n than_o other_o have_v do_v who_o have_v yet_o come_v to_o nought_o it_o may_v be_v he_o will_v tell_v thou_o thou_o be_v weak_a thou_o want_v those_o part_n those_o ability_n that_o strength_n that_o power_n to_o do_v god_n that_o service_n which_o other_o have_v many_o it_o lose_v more_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o wicked_a man_n by_o the_o fall_v of_o some_o than_o it_o can_v gain_v again_o by_o the_o stand_n of_o thousand_o david_n fall_n though_o he_o rise_v again_o cause_v religion_n and_o the_o way_n of_o god_n to_o be_v blaspheme_v by_o wicked_a man_n it_o open_v the_o mouth_n of_o wicked_a man_n to_o blaspheme_v the_o way_n of_o god_n as_o the_o hereby_o more_o strengthen_v 3._o a_o three_o end_v which_o satan_n have_v towards_o wicked_a man_n be_v hereby_o to_o harden_v they_o and_o confirm_v and_o strengthen_v they_o in_o a_o way_n of_o to_o take_v he_o away_o from_o he_o indeed_o he_o be_v afraid_a of_o other_o though_o never_o so_o wicked_a he_o fear_v he_o may_v loose_v he_o at_o every_o sermon_n he_o may_v be_v rob_v of_o he_o at_o every_o prayer_n and_o therefore_o labour_v all_o he_o can_v to_o keep_v such_o man_n off_o from_o the_o work_n but_o now_o this_o man_n he_o dare_v adventure_n to_o the_o most_o powerful_a and_o prevail_a ordinance_n he_o have_v long_a experience_n his_o heart_n have_v stand_v firm_a to_o he_o in_o all_o though_o sometime_o he_o have_v have_v some_o sting_n and_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n as_o certain_o it_o fare_v often_o with_o unsound_a heart_n who_o have_v to_o do_v with_o duty_n yet_o he_o can_v let_v he_o alone_o he_o know_v he_o will_v come_v to_o his_o old_a temper_n and_o return_v to_o himself_o again_o as_o hot_a water_n will_v return_v to_o its_o own_o coldness_n because_o there_o be_v a_o quality_n in_o it_o which_o resist_v heat_n and_o incline_v to_o cold_a so_o if_o at_o any_o time_n such_o a_o man_n be_v trouble_v satan_n will_v let_v he_o alone_o he_o know_v there_o be_v a_o principle_n in_o he_o which_o will_v cause_v he_o to_o return_v to_o his_o wont_a there_o be_v many_o and_o fearful_a aggravation_n of_o your_o sin_n all_o which_o satan_n now_o use_v and_o set_v on_o with_o all_o his_o might_n to_o bring_v you_o to_o despair_v and_o great_a be_v it_o will_v put_v a_o man_n upon_o prayer_n and_o make_v a_o man_n pray_v fervent_o faithful_o humble_o it_o will_v put_v a_o man_n upon_o hear_v etc._n etc._n and_o therefore_o thou_o be_v mistake_v though_o a_o man_n may_v do_v these_o duty_n and_o not_o be_v sincere_a yet_o thou_o can_v not_o be_v sincere_a if_o thou_o do_v they_o not_o though_o he_o may_v do_v these_o thing_n and_o perish_v performance_n of_o duty_n be_v sufficient_a evidence_n to_o conclude_v our_o good_a condition_n than_o whoever_o do_v abound_v most_o in_o these_o thing_n they_o have_v the_o sure_a bottom_n to_o rest_n upon_o but_o alas_o you_o see_v it_o be_v possible_a for_o a_o man_n to_o abound_v in_o duty_n and_o yet_o his_o heart_n be_v unsound_a and_o therefore_o the_o do_v of_o these_o thing_n will_v not_o be_v sufficient_a to_o evidence_n to_o yourselves_o that_o your_o condition_n be_v good_a if_o these_o anchor_n shall_v ever_o hold_v you_o need_v not_o to_o beat_v out_o any_o better_a anchor_n the_o wave_n do_v beat_v when_o the_o storm_n arise_v then_o be_v the_o sandiness_n of_o the_o foundation_n discover_v the_o house_n fall_v for_o it_o be_v build_v upon_o the_o sand._n so_o here_o while_o you_o have_v a_o calm_a while_o you_o be_v in_o health_n enjoy_v peace_n etc._n etc._n these_o bottom_n seem_v firm_a enough_o you_o do_v not_o discover_v the_o sandiness_n of_o these_o foundation_n but_o a_o storm_n do_v arise_v when_o you_o come_v upon_o your_o sick-bed_n when_o you_o come_v to_o the_o day_n of_o death_n than_o you_o shall_v see_v the_o unsoundness_n of_o your_o bottom_n all_o your_o building_n your_o fair_a structure_n all_o your_o work_n and_o walking_n upon_o this_o foundation_n will_v be_v sure_o blow_v down_o they_o will_v never_o abide_v the_o trial_n and_o therefore_o let_v i_o stir_v you_o up_o you_o who_o be_v
resolve_v for_o god_n you_o who_o be_v bind_v for_o heaven_n that_o you_o will_v get_v better_a evidence_n than_o the_o bare_a and_o naked_a performance_n of_o duty_n will_v afford_v you_o all_o which_o may_v be_v do_v and_o thou_o sink_v into_o hell_n at_o the_o last_o nay_o get_v better_a evidence_n than_o duty_n itself_o perform_v at_o the_o best_a be_v able_a to_o afford_v unto_o you_o 1._o because_o evidence_n of_o this_o kind_n be_v obscure_a full_a of_o ambiguity_n full_a of_o intricate_a dispute_n and_o controversy_n there_o will_v be_v objection_n upon_o objection_n and_o ever_o we_o can_v have_v any_o comfort_n in_o they_o you_o will_v find_v that_o the_o clear_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o these_o evidence_n will_v be_v as_o difficult_a if_o not_o more_o than_o the_o compass_n of_o the_o evidence_n themselves_o 2._o we_o be_v to_o seek_v out_o for_o better_a evidence_n than_o duty_n perform_v at_o the_o best_a can_v afford_v we_o because_o these_o kind_n of_o evidence_n be_v not_o only_o obscure_a full_a of_o ambiguity_n and_o so_o uncertain_a but_o because_o these_o kind_n of_o evidence_n they_o be_v unconstant_a they_o be_v instable_n they_o may_v appear_v to_o day_n and_o vanish_v to_o morrow_n you_o know_v my_o brethren_n that_o a_o man_n be_v not_o always_o in_o the_o same_o temper_n of_o spirit_n his_o spirit_n be_v subject_a to_o vary_v and_o alteration_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o duty_n and_o therefore_o though_o a_o man_n may_v fetch_v a_o evidence_n out_o of_o the_o court_n of_o duty_n at_o this_o time_n yet_o it_o may_v be_v at_o another_o time_n the_o court_n will_v not_o afford_v it_o a_o man_n may_v be_v clear_v to_o day_n by_o duty_n and_o condemn_v to_o morrow_n this_o day_n he_o may_v thence_o have_v a_o evidence_n and_o he_o may_v be_v cast_v in_o the_o same_o court_n to_o morrow_n our_o comfort_n fetch_v hence_o be_v liable_a to_o change_v they_o vary_v as_o we_o vary_v change_v as_o we_o change_v this_o be_v certain_a that_o the_o peace_n which_o be_v wrought_v out_o of_o ourselves_o be_v again_o lose_v by_o ourselves_o and_o the_o comfort_n get_v by_o duty_n at_o one_o time_n be_v lose_v by_o duty_n at_o another_o time_n well_o then_o i_o call_v you_o out_o to_o seek_v out_o for_o better_a evidence_n such_o as_o will_v afford_v you_o more_o fullness_n of_o peace_n and_o will_v minister_v to_o you_o more_o stability_n of_o comfort_n than_o these_o can_v do_v fetch_v your_o evidence_n from_o your_o justification_n your_o interest_n in_o christ_n in_o the_o covenant_n you_o will_v find_v a_o emptiness_n in_o all_o only_o a_o fullness_n here_o draw_v your_o water_n of_o comfort_n from_o the_o high_a spring_n the_o spring_n of_o justification_n these_o be_v 1._o the_o clear_a 2._o the_o pure_a 3._o the_o most_o satisfy_a 4._o the_o most_o constant_a evidence_n 1._o these_o be_v the_o clear_a evidence_n they_o be_v fetch_v from_o the_o spring_n other_o water_n be_v muddy_a and_o disturb_a but_o spring-water_n be_v clear_a so_o evidence_n take_v from_o other_o thing_n often_o run_v muddy_a and_o be_v disturb_v but_o those_o from_o justification_n be_v the_o clean_a and_o run_v the_o clear_a though_o these_o kind_n of_o evidence_n be_v hard_a to_o clear_v it_o will_v cost_v a_o man_n something_o before_o he_o reach_v to_o these_o evidence_n before_o he_o can_v make_v out_o these_o evidence_n to_o himself_o yet_o they_o be_v the_o most_o perspicuous_a be_v clear_v the_o testimony_n of_o blood_n be_v the_o hard_a and_o dark_a testimony_n to_o make_v out_o but_o none_o be_v more_o clear_a than_o that_o when_o once_o you_o have_v make_v it_o out_o to_o your_o soul_n so_o that_o it_o be_v worth_a all_o your_o labour_n and_o pain_n you_o take_v in_o the_o clear_n of_o it_o other_o evidence_n be_v liable_a to_o dispute_v but_o what_o can_v satan_n dispute_v against_o this_o do_v he_o say_v thou_o be_v a_o sinner_n yea_o but_o may_v thou_o say_v god_n justify_v great_a latitude_n and_o extent_n in_o this_o trial_n there_o will_v be_v long_a debate_n before_o you_o come_v to_o the_o utmost_a and_o the_o like_a i_o may_v say_v of_o any_o grace_n beside_o therefore_o these_o from_o justification_n be_v the_o clear_a evidence_n from_o dispute_n and_o controversy_n 2._o these_o be_v the_o pure_a evidence_n spring-water_n be_v the_o pure_a water_n so_o
