ancestor_n 4._o or_o some_o undertaker_n 5._o or_o the_o church_n these_o five_o ground_n be_v plead_v by_o some_o and_o though_o our_o question_n direct_o speak_v only_o of_o the_o second_o and_o therefore_o if_o any_o of_o the_o rest_n be_v prove_v it_o nothing_o make_v against_o our_o negative_a determination_n because_o we_o take_v it_o reduplicatiuè_fw-la of_o the_o child_n of_o such_o parent_n as_o they_o yet_o we_o judge_v it_o most_o useful_a to_o our_o main_a end_n that_o we_o touch_v upon_o each_o of_o these_o several_a claim_n and_o 1._o if_o the_o infant_n of_o such_o parent_n have_v any_o such_o right_n from_o any_o thing_n in_o themselves_o it_o be_v either_o from_o somewhat_o proper_a to_o themselves_o and_o some_o other_o such_o as_o they_o or_o somewhat_o common_a to_o all_o infant_n but_o neither_o of_o these_o ergo_fw-la 1._o for_o the_o first_o member_n i_o know_v nothing_o say_v but_o this_o possible_o they_o may_v have_v some_o seed_n of_o grace_n in_o they_o we_o know_v not_o the_o contrary_a answ._n 1._o as_o to_o we_o it_o be_v all_o one_o non_fw-la esse_fw-la &_o non_fw-la apparere_fw-la we_o must_v have_v some_o evidence_n of_o such_o a_o seed_n of_o grace_n or_o else_o we_o can_v discern_v it_o 2._o else_o we_o must_v baptize_v the_o child_n of_o all_o or_o any_o heathen_a or_o infidel_n because_o for_o aught_o we_o know_v they_o may_v have_v some_o seed_n of_o grace_n for_o the_o second_o member_n it_o be_v thus_o argue_v by_o some_o god_n require_v nothing_o but_o consent_n on_o our_o part_n to_o our_o entrance_n into_o covenant_n with_o he_o see_v it_o be_v a_o covenant_n of_o free_a grace_n but_o all_o infant_n must_v by_o we_o be_v suppose_v to_o consent_v therefore_o all_o must_v be_v suppose_v to_o have_v right_o to_o baptism_n the_o major_n we_o grant_v the_o minor_a they_o will_v thus_o prove_v it_o be_v a_o rule_n in_o the_o civil_a law_n that_o it_o be_v suppose_v that_o a_o man_n will_v be_v willing_a of_o his_o own_o good_a and_o another_o rule_n there_o be_v that_o the_o law_n suppose_v a_o man_n to_o be_v what_o he_o ought_v to_o be_v till_o the_o contrary_n appear_v therefore_o infant_n who_o make_v not_o the_o contrary_n appear_v be_v by_o we_o to_o be_v judge_v virtual_a consenter_n or_o accepter_n of_o the_o covenant_n and_o consequent_o to_o be_v baptise_a answ._n these_o rule_n may_v hold_v in_o deal_n between_o man_n and_o man_n about_o such_o thing_n as_o nature_n may_v both_o discern_v to_o be_v good_a and_o desire_n but_o they_o can_v hold_v in_o the_o case_n in_o hand_n 1._o because_o nature_n can_v sufficient_o discern_v the_o desirableness_n of_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o covenant_n compare_v with_o those_o thing_n that_o must_v be_v renounce_v 2._o nor_o can_v it_o true_o desire_v they_o without_o grace_n 3._o and_o the_o common_a experience_n of_o the_o world_n tell_v we_o that_o the_o most_o of_o man_n by_o far_o do_v not_o true_o consent_v when_o they_o hear_v the_o term_n of_o the_o covenant_n this_o therefore_o may_v not_o be_v suppose_v for_o nature_n inclination_n to_o our_o own_o good_a be_v no_o sufficient_a ground_n of_o the_o supposition_n nor_o yet_o any_o obligation_n that_o can_v lie_v on_o we_o to_o charitable_a thought_n of_o infant_n be_v inclination_n for_o it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o principle_n of_o our_o religion_n that_o nature_n be_v so_o deprave_a as_o that_o every_o man_n be_v the_o great_a enemy_n of_o himself_o consequential_o as_o be_v incline_v to_o the_o way_n of_o his_o own_o ruin_n till_o christ_n the_o physician_n of_o nature_n do_v work_v a_o cure_n 4._o and_o if_o this_o argument_n will_v hold_v it_o will_v prove_v that_o all_o the_o infant_n of_o the_o world_n have_v right_a to_o baptism_n which_o be_v not_o to_o be_v suppose_v 5._o yea_o it_o wouâ—d_v prove_v that_o they_o have_v equal_a right_n with_o christian_n which_o be_v yet_o more_o evident_o false_a 6._o infant_n in_o such_o covenant_n be_v repute_v to_o be_v as_o their_o paâ—â—nt_n who_o choose_v for_o they_o that_o can_v choose_v for_o themselves_o if_o therefore_o the_o parent_n consent_v not_o it_o be_v suppose_v that_o the_o child_n consenâ—s_v not_o and_o no_o parent_n can_v true_o consent_v for_o his_o child_n that_o re_fw-mi use_v for_o himself_o 7._o the_o covenant_n have_v not_o only_a this_o be_v both_o the_o proper_a subject_n of_o our_o question_n and_o also_o the_o great_a difficu_o and_o most_o insist_v on_o i_o shall_v say_v somewhat_o more_o to_o it_o and_o i_o prove_v the_o negative_a thus_o 1._o if_o notorious_o ungodly_a parent_n have_v no_o right_a themselves_o to_o the_o benefit_n of_o the_o covenant_n nor_o to_o be_v baptise_a if_o it_o be_v now_o to_o do_v then_o can_v their_o child_n have_v a_o right_n upon_o the_o account_n of_o any_o interest_n of_o they_o but_o the_o antecedent_n be_v true_a therefore_o the_o validity_n of_o the_o consequence_n be_v evident_a in_o that_o no_o man_n can_v give_v that_o he_o have_v none_o to_o give_v nor_o can_v we_o derive_v any_o interest_n from_o he_o that_o have_v none_o himself_o if_o any_o say_v he_o may_v have_v a_o interest_n for_o his_o child_n that_o have_v none_o for_o himself_o i_o reply_v 1._o then_o the_o child_n have_v not_o his_o interest_n in_o and_o with_o the_o parent_n nor_o as_o repute_v may_v not_o the_o same_o be_v say_v of_o a_o infidel_n that_o he_o may_v have_v a_o right_n for_o his_o child_n though_o none_o for_o himself_o it_o be_v object_v that_o be_v himself_o baptize_v he_o once_o have_v right_a to_o church-membership_a for_o himself_o and_o his_o child_n and_o though_o he_o have_v lose_v this_o by_o apostasy_n himself_o yet_o there_o be_v no_o reason_n why_o his_o child_n shall_v be_v a_o loser_n by_o his_o fall_n answ._n 1._o according_a to_o this_o objection_n the_o child_n of_o all_o infidel_n jew_n turk_n and_o heathen_n shall_v have_v right_a for_o their_o parent_n sake_n suppose_v those_o parent_n to_o have_v be_v once_o baptize_v and_o now_o to_o be_v apostate_n 2._o but_o those_o child_n be_v either_o bear_v before_o their_o parent_n apostasy_n or_o after_o if_o before_o than_o i_o grant_v the_o parent_n lose_v not_o the_o child_n right_a by_o apostasy_n because_o that_o right_o be_v fix_v upon_o the_o child_n himself_o upon_o the_o account_n of_o the_o parent_n interest_n and_o we_o may_v suppose_v he_o baptize_v thereupon_o and_o so_o there_o be_v no_o cause_n for_o a_o doubt_n for_o as_o the_o case_n be_v rare_a for_o a_o man_n that_o before_o be_v rightful_o a_o church-member_n to_o the_o outward_a appearance_n to_o apostatise_v between_o the_o birth_n and_o baptism_n so_o i_o will_v purposely_o shun_v that_o controversy_n whether_o the_o child_n by_o such_o apostasy_n lose_v his_o right_n or_o whether_o a_o baptise_a
and_o consequent_o that_o the_o evident_a discovery_n of_o a_o state_n of_o ungodliness_n and_o many_o more_o be_v then_o punish_v with_o death_n according_a to_o god_n law_n and_o then_o it_o must_v needs_o follow_v that_o no_o child_n of_o a_o man_n notorious_o ungodly_a bear_v of_o his_o procreation_n in_o that_o condition_n have_v right_o to_o circumcision_n for_o dead_a man_n do_v not_o procreate_v and_o whether_o cutting_n off_o from_o his_o people_n be_n mean_v of_o capital_a punishment_n such_o place_n as_o exod._n 31.14_o 15._o will_v make_v one_o doubt_n you_o shall_v keep_v the_o sabbath_n therefore_o for_o it_o be_v holy_a unto_o you_o every_o one_o that_o defile_v it_o shall_v sure_o be_v put_v to_o death_n for_o whosoever_o do_v any_o work_n therein_o that_o soul_n shall_v be_v cut_v off_o from_o among_o his_o people_n see_v also_o levit._n 20.17_o 18._o and_o if_o it_o be_v mean_v of_o excommunication_n if_o the_o parent_n be_v cut_n off_o from_o his_o people_n the_o whole_a cause_n viz._n that_o the_o magistrate_n be_v not_o to_o force_v any_o bare_o to_o be_v circumcise_a but_o to_o enter_v into_o god_n covenant_n and_o so_o to_o be_v circumcise_v and_o therefore_o be_v he_o not_o to_o force_v any_o out_o of_o the_o covenant_n to_o be_v circumcise_v and_o then_o that_o he_o be_v to_o cut_v off_o the_o covenant-breaker_n or_o notorious_o ungodly_a one_o 11._o the_o next_o observation_n that_o i_o will_v give_v towards_o the_o answer_v of_o this_o objection_n be_v that_o it_o can_v not_o be_v expect_v that_o any_o magistrate_n priest_n or_o other_o in_o power_n shall_v hinder_v any_o israëlite_n from_o circumcise_n his_o child_n for_o to_o circumcise_v they_o be_v every_o man_n duty_n and_o to_o baptize_v they_o be_v every_o man_n duty_n in_o the_o world_n now_o that_o be_v to_o give_v up_o himself_o and_o his_o child_n in_o sincere_a covenant_n to_o god_n and_o seal_v it_o as_o he_o have_v appoint_v but_o not_o dissemble_o to_o use_v the_o sign_n without_o the_o covenant_a and_o resignation_n on_o his_o part_n now_o if_o any_o israëlite_n be_v unfit_a for_o this_o ordinance_n it_o be_v the_o magistrate_n duty_n to_o put_v he_o to_o death_n or_o cut_v he_o off_o he_o can_v not_o judge_v he_o unfit_a and_o so_o forbid_v he_o the_o ordinance_n without_o condemn_v himself_o the_o first_o thing_n that_o lie_v upon_o he_o be_v to_o cut_v he_o off_o for_o the_o sin_n which_o cause_v his_o unfitness_n 12._o note_v also_o that_o circumcision_n much_o differ_v from_o baptism_n in_o this_o that_o it_o be_v not_o the_o priest_n work_v but_o parent_n to_o circumcise_v his_o child_n this_o be_v so_o no_o wonder_n if_o there_o be_v not_o the_o scruple_n about_o the_o person_n fitness_n and_o worthiness_n and_o the_o child_n right_n as_o now_o there_o be_v in_o baptism_n for_o what_o man_n be_v so_o prone_a to_o scruple_n or_o question_v his_o own_o right_a or_o his_o child_n as_o another_o may_v be_v and_o the_o same_o reason_n that_o shall_v move_v a_o parent_n to_o question_v his_o right_n will_v move_v he_o also_o to_o repent_v and_o recover_v his_o right_n no_o wonder_n therefore_o if_o the_o execution_n answer_v not_o god_n institution_n to_o all_o this_o it_o be_v object_v that_o we_o read_v not_o that_o any_o infant_n be_v keep_v back_o or_o that_o god_n blame_v they_o for_o it_o answ._n 1._o i_o have_v give_v sufficient_a reason_n 2._o god_n will_v rather_o blame_v they_o for_o that_o sin_n which_o cause_v their_o unfitness_n it_o be_v not_o the_o circumcise_n then_o in_o the_o baptism_n now_o that_o he_o be_v against_o direct_o but_o the_o ungodliness_n and_o therefore_o will_v not_o have_v the_o ordinance_n forbear_v but_o on_o supposition_n that_o the_o sin_n will_v not_o be_v more_o diminute_a and_o less_o proper_a sense_n a_o man_n be_v say_v to_o have_v right_o which_o be_v accidential_o in_o his_o profession_n without_o his_o unjust_a usurpation_n though_o he_o know_v not_o whether_o he_o shall_v keep_v it_o a_o moment_n nor_o have_v any_o civil_a right_n give_v he_o thereto_o 3._o in_o a_o sense_n yet_o less_o proper_a a_o man_n may_v be_v say_v to_o have_v right_o to_o that_o action_n which_o it_o be_v another_o man_n duty_n to_o perform_v to_o he_o or_o that_o good_a which_o another_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o do_v to_o or_o for_o he_o though_o proper_o or_o other_o moral_a act_n which_o may_v be_v the_o foundation_n of_o right_n call_v a_o title_n according_a to_o the_o second_o sense_n all_o those_o have_v right_o to_o god_n blessing_n that_o have_v they_o in_o possession_n through_o a_o mere_a natural_a collation_n of_o providence_n without_o their_o sinful_a seizure_n as_o if_o you_o see_v a_o man_n by_o the_o way_n lie_v naked_a and_o cast_v your_o cloak_n over_o he_o and_o say_v nothing_o to_o he_o though_o you_o may_v take_v it_o away_o again_o at_o your_o pleasure_n and_o assure_v he_o not_o of_o the_o use_n of_o it_o for_o a_o moment_n yet_o he_o have_v right_a to_o possess_v it_o while_o you_o permit_v he_o thus_o every_o pagan_a have_v right_o to_o his_o life_n and_o time_n and_o food_n and_o raiment_n while_o god_n do_v providential_o vouchsafe_v they_o to_o he_o according_a to_o the_o three_o sense_n all_o those_o have_v a_o right_n to_o god_n mercy_n to_o who_o we_o be_v bind_v as_o instrument_n to_o conser_fw-fr or_o claim_v to_o the_o thing_n so_o if_o god_n bid_v i_o give_v to_o he_o that_o need_v and_o because_o i_o know_v not_o all_o that_o need_n he_o bid_v i_o judge_v upon_o probable_a appearance_n hereupon_o if_o a_o rich_a man_n go_v in_o rag_n and_o pretend_v necessity_n it_o be_v my_o duty_n to_o give_v to_o he_o and_o so_o far_o this_o rich_a man_n have_v a_o right_a to_o my_o alm_n as_o my_o duty_n to_o forgive_v he_o that_o repent_v not_o if_o he_o seem_v to_o repent_v and_o so_o he_o may_v have_v such_o a_o improper_a right_n to_o my_o forgiveness_n so_o if_o a_o heathen_a seem_v to_o be_v a_o true_a christian_a and_o yet_o dissemble_v i_o be_o bind_v to_o use_v he_o as_o a_o christian_a and_o and_o so_o far_o he_o may_v improper_o be_v say_v to_o have_v right_a to_o any_o providence_n put_v they_o into_o possession_n of_o it_o 3._o whether_o it_o be_v a_o minister_n duty_n to_o baptize_v they_o and_o i_o think_v it_o necessary_a to_o handle_v all_o these_o or_o at_o least_o the_o first_o and_o last_o distinct_o because_o that_o one_o depend_v on_o the_o other_o and_o we_o know_v not_o which_o be_v ordinary_o mean_v when_o this_o question_n be_v put_v only_o to_o the_o explication_n of_o the_o last_o term_n we_o must_v speak_v a_o word_n viz._n what_o be_v mean_v by_o that_o baptism_n the_o right_a whereto_o we_o be_v now_o inquire_v after_o it_o be_v one_o question_n whether_o they_o have_v right_o to_o the_o thing_n signify_v viz._n christ_n and_o his_o benefit_n the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n and_o adoption_n etc._n etc._n it_o be_v another_o question_n whether_o they_o have_v right_o to_o the_o bare_a sign_n and_o the_o consequential_a privilege_n with_o the_o church_n arise_v from_o their_o repute_v such_o a_o man_n to_o be_v a_o true_a christian._n and_o another_o question_n whether_o they_o have_v right_o to_o both_o these_o also_o it_o be_v one_o thing_n to_o ask_v whether_o man_n have_v right_a to_o performance_n of_o their_o own_o part_n in_o baptism_n in_o part_n or_o in_o whole_a and_o another_o whether_o they_o have_v right_a to_o god_n part_n we_o make_v no_o question_n but_o every_o man_n have_v liberty_n give_v he_o to_o do_v his_o own_o part_n entire_o yea_o it_o be_v his_o duty_n and_o so_o every_o infidel_n be_v bind_v to_o bring_v his_o child_n to_o baptism_n that_o be_v to_o cease_v his_o infidelity_n and_o to_o dedicate_v himself_o and_o child_n to_o christ_n and_o seal_v it_o with_o be_v baptise_a but_o this_o be_v nothing_o to_o prove_v that_o he_o have_v right_o to_o god_n part_n in_o baptism_n that_o be_v either_o to_o the_o wash_v as_o god_n seal_n and_o sign_n or_o to_o the_o cleanse_v signify_v and_o other_o benefit_n convey_v by_o it_o 2._o nor_o be_v it_o any_o thing_n to_o prove_v that_o he_o have_v a_o liberty_n to_o do_v the_o latter_a and_o external_a part_n of_o his_o own_o duty_n without_o the_o internal_a and_o former_a precedent_n that_o be_v to_o be_v baptize_v before_o he_o consent_v to_o the_o term_n of_o the_o covenant_n as_o a_o man_n that_o be_v bind_v to_o consent_v in_o mind_n to_o any_o thing_n and_o promise_v with_o the_o mouth_n yet_o may_v not_o promise_v before_o he_o consent_v that_o be_v dissemble_v or_o lye_n i_o shall_v now_o brief_o determine_v the_o question_n as_o to_o each_o of_o the_o three_o forementioned_a sort_n of_o right_n distinct_o and_o as_o to_o the_o first_o i_o take_v the_o question_n to_o lie_v thus_o suppose_v it_o only_o the_o external_a baptism_n that_o be_v mean_v whether_o the_o infant_n child_n especial_o natural_a of_o man_n external_o baptize_v but_o now_o notorious_o ungodly_a have_v by_o any_o gift_n of_o covenant-grant_a from_o god_n a_o right_a to_o external_a baptism_n which_o i_o determine_v negative_o they_o have_v no_o such_o right_a and_o herein_o the_o just_a order_n it_o belong_v to_o the_o affirmer_n to_o prove_v such_o a_o right_n he_o that_o bring_v his_o claim_n must_v show_v his_o
can_v do_v but_o upon_o weighty_a consideration_n 2._o the_o sovereign_n in_o this_o case_n have_v the_o same_o right_n in_o adult_n subject_n as_o in_o infant_n see_v they_o be_v all_o vassal_n to_o he_o as_o their_o lord_n and_o yet_o it_o be_v manifest_a in_o scripture_n that_o god_n will_v have_v the_o personal_a consent_n of_o the_o adult_n before_o they_o shall_v have_v any_o interest_n in_o his_o covenant_n because_o when_o their_o sovereign_a lord_n have_v all_o the_o right_a that_o be_v possible_a he_o leave_v they_o the_o power_n of_o their_o own_o will_n and_o so_o as_o they_o have_v still_o natural_o a_o near_a right_n in_o themselves_o than_o he_o have_v which_o they_o can_v alienate_v so_o it_o seem_v they_o have_v in_o their_o child_n 3._o at_o least_o this_o be_v nothing_o to_o almost_o all_o the_o world_n where_o the_o ruler_n claim_v no_o such_o absolute_a dominion_n and_o propriety_n 4._o god_n in_o scripture_n require_v parent_n and_o not_o ruler_n to_o circumcise_v their_o child_n and_o to_o educate_v they_o and_o joshua_n will_v promise_v for_o no_o more_o but_o himself_o &_o his_o household_n to_o serve_v the_o lord_n and_o bid_v the_o people_n choose_v who_o they_o will_v serve_v yet_o i_o will_v not_o deny_v but_o that_o a_o ruler_n may_v use_v some_o sharp_a mean_n to_o procure_v the_o consent_n of_o parent_n in_o some_o case_n and_o i_o also_o confess_v that_o this_o argument_n though_o lest_o insist_v on_o have_v in_o my_o opinion_n much_o more_o plausible_a appearance_n of_o strength_n and_o better_a deserve_v a_o further_a consideration_n than_o the_o great_a and_o common_a argument_n of_o the_o parent_n right_o by_o such_o a_o profession_n as_o consist_v with_o notorious_a ungodliness_n upon_o which_o most_o build_v almost_o all_o their_o cause_n â—astly_o i_o conceive_v that_o as_o a_o governor_n right_o be_v in_o the_o commonwealth_n and_o main_a body_n of_o the_o nation_n enable_v he_o to_o rule_v they_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n so_o i_o will_v not_o deny_v but_o that_o he_o may_v call_v together_o the_o chief_a part_n of_o they_o or_o a_o representative_a body_n and_o urge_v and_o procure_v their_o consent_n he_o may_v devote_v they_o by_o a_o national_a covenant_n to_o gâ—d_n and_o promise_v himself_o to_o rule_v they_o in_o his_o fear_n and_o i_o will_v this_o duty_n and_o the_o scripture_n they_o be_v not_o till_o they_o be_v themselves_o disciple_n the_o apostle_n be_v first_o command_v to_o disciple_n nation_n and_o then_o to_o baptise_v they_o on_o supposition_n that_o they_o be_v disciple_v therefore_o they_o must_v baptize_v none_o but_o those_o that_o be_v disciple_v they_o must_v endeavour_v the_o discipling_n of_o each_o individual_a but_o if_o they_o prevail_v but_o with_o the_o great_a and_o ruling_n part_n it_o may_v be_v call_v a_o disciple_v nation_n and_o a_o kingdom_n that_o be_v become_v the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n but_o yet_o as_o it_o be_v but_o for_o the_o sake_n of_o the_o chief_a part_n that_o the_o whole_a be_v so_o denominate_v so_o it_o be_v only_o that_o part_n that_o be_v to_o be_v baptize_v see_v a_o bare_a denomination_n of_o the_o whole_a give_v not_o right_a to_o any_o part_n that_o have_v none_o of_o the_o ground_n of_o that_o denomination_n nor_o do_v the_o ancient_a church_n so_o understand_v this_o text_n for_o when_o constantine_n and_o theodosius_n and_o other_o christian_a emperor_n have_v the_o rule_n they_o do_v not_o judge_v that_o all_o their_o subject_n shall_v be_v baptize_v the_o 3d._a argument_n be_v draw_v from_o the_o interest_n of_o the_o church_n they_o say_v those_o that_o be_v bear_v within_o the_o church_n though_o of_o unworthy_a parent_n the_o church_n may_v take_v they_o and_o present_v they_o to_o baptism_n answ._n how_o be_v those_o bear_v within_o the_o church_n who_o parent_n be_v no_o member_n of_o the_o church_n of_o which_o more_o anon_o if_o the_o parent_n be_v utter_o unworthy_a and_o the_o child_n can_v have_v no_o right_n upon_o his_o account_n then_o certain_o he_o be_v not_o to_o be_v reckon_v in_o the_o church_n and_o if_o you_o mean_v that_o all_o those_o that_o be_v bear_v among_o the_o member_n of_o the_o church_n or_o where_o they_o have_v civil_a rule_n may_v by_o they_o be_v present_v to_o baptism_n then_o the_o argument_n must_v be_v the_o same_o with_o that_o before_o or_o so_o vain_a as_o to_o need_v no_o confutation_n unless_o the_o church_n will_v accept_v the_o child_n as_o their_o own_o according_a to_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o four_o forementioned_a title_n and_o then_o any_o one_o member_n may_v better_o do_v it_o than_o the_o whole_a church_n have_v speak_v to_o the_o five_o pretend_a title_n distinct_o and_o show_v you_o how_o far_o they_o be_v any_o of_o they_o allowable_a and_o how_o far_o not_o i_o shall_v proceed_v to_o the_o second_o question_n in_o the_o begin_n propound_v viz._n whether_o that_o the_o eventual_a disposal_n of_o god_n by_o a_o physical_a act_n of_o providence_n do_v give_v any_o right_n to_o the_o child_n of_o notorious_o ungodly_a parent_n to_o be_v baptize_v and_o i_o need_v not_o say_v much_o to_o this_o 1._o because_o i_o know_v of_o none_o that_o plead_v this_o right_n 2._o because_o it_o be_v but_o a_o non-injustum_a and_o i_o think_v scarce_o so_o much_o as_o a_o justum_fw-la much_o less_o a_o debitum_fw-la that_o be_v here_o ground_v 3._o but_o especial_o because_o it_o be_v unquestionable_o evident_a that_o if_o this_o give_v any_o kind_n of_o right_n it_o be_v but_o of_o reason_n be_v plead_v beforehand_o to_o enable_v any_o man_n claim_n to_o baptism_n nor_o to_o enable_v a_o minister_n to_o baptize_v any_o nor_o yet_o ex_fw-la post_fw-la facto_fw-la to_o justify_v the_o act_n of_o the_o baptizer_n or_o of_o the_o baptise_a yet_o how_o far_o it_o may_v prohibit_v any_o man_n to_o dispossess_v they_o of_o the_o state_n or_o privilege_n of_o the_o baptize_v till_o god_n give_v they_o a_o clear_a warrant_n be_v worthy_a consideration_n 3._o but_o it_o be_v the_o three_o question_n concern_v the_o three_o sort_n of_o right_n that_o most_o of_o all_o concern_v we_o to_o discuss_v see_v as_o far_o as_o i_o can_v perceive_v it_o be_v this_o that_o our_o brethren_n of_o the_o contrary_a judgement_n do_v intend_v to_o insist_v upon_o as_o discern_v some_o inconvenience_n in_o affirm_v god_n to_o be_v any_o otherwise_o than_o conditional_o engage_v in_o covenant_n with_o any_o notorious_a ungodly_a man_n yea_o or_o any_o that_o be_v unregenerate_a to_o this_o therefore_o we_o must_v next_o speak_v the_o question_n be_v whether_o it_o be_v god_n command_v that_o minister_n shall_v baptize_v child_n of_o notorious_o ungodly_a man_n any_o that_o true_o own_o they_o as_o they_o 2._o much_o more_o if_o any_o one_o of_o the_o parent_n be_v godly_a though_o the_o other_o be_v ungodly_a 3._o also_o if_o there_o be_v a_o probable_a profession_n of_o godliness_n though_o indeed_o there_o be_v not_o sincerity_n it_o be_v our_o duty_n to_o baptize_v the_o child_n of_o such_o because_o 1._o

be_v such_o or_o no_o and_o so_o take_v they_o and_o use_v they_o according_o the_o apparere_fw-la be_v here_o as_o the_o esse_fw-la to_o we_o so_o when_o he_o bid_v we_o if_o a_o brother_n wrong_v we_o oft_o and_o oft_o say_v it_o repent_v i_o forgive_v he_o it_o be_v all_o one_o with_o that_o other_o if_o he_o repent_v forgive_v he_o we_o know_v not_o certain_o whether_o he_o repent_v or_o believe_v or_o their_o child_n how_o can_v we_o judge_v of_o they_o but_o by_o a_o probable_a profession_n 4._o it_o be_v therefore_o grant_v that_o though_o such_o a_o degree_n of_o ungodliness_n as_o be_v consistent_a with_o sincere_a godliness_n be_v notorious_a yet_o that_o be_v not_o the_o subject_n of_o our_o question_n for_o that_o do_v not_o denominate_v a_o man_n ungodly_a see_v it_o be_v from_o the_o predominant_a part_n that_o he_o must_v be_v denominate_v the_o doubt_n remain_v therefore_o abouâ—_n ungodliness_n in_o the_o proper_a sense_n notorious_a as_o be_v before_o that_o profess_v shall_v be_v justify_v for_o all_o that_o be_v in_o the_o mutual_a covenant_n with_o god_n actual_o be_v justify_v 3._o and_o then_o such_o profession_n will_v be_v of_o flat_a
