this_o general_a whereunto_o he_o exhort_v they_o be_v 1._o that_o they_o have_v the_o same_o love_n that_o be_v that_o they_o love_v the_o same_o thing_n in_o the_o lord_n 2._o that_o they_o be_v of_o one_o accord_n that_o be_v that_o they_o agree_v in_o their_o will_n and_o desire_n in_o the_o lord_n 3._o that_o they_o be_v of_o one_o judgement_n that_o be_v that_o they_o agree_v in_o the_o doctrine_n and_o truth_n of_o christ_n jesus_n these_o be_v the_o thing_n which_o he_o wish_v to_o be_v in_o they_o that_o their_o conversation_n may_v be_v such_o as_o become_v the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n in_o general_a to_o be_v like_o affection_a in_o the_o lord_n in_o special_a to_o love_v the_o same_o thing_n in_o the_o lord_n to_o agree_v in_o their_o will_n and_o desire_n in_o the_o lord_n to_o agree_v in_o the_o doctrine_n and_o truth_n of_o christ_n jesus_n now_o the_o fault_n which_o he_o wish_v they_o to_o be_v free_a from_o be_v contention_n vainglory_n and_o self-love_n note_v in_o the_o verse_n follow_v yet_o so_o that_o the_o countrepoyson_n of_o humility_n be_v therein_o countre-ballanced_n and_o persuade_v that_o nothing_o be_v do_v through_o contention_n etc._n etc._n this_o i_o take_v to_o be_v the_o order_n and_o meaning_n of_o these_o word_n thus_o far_o now_o let_v we_o see_v what_o observation_n we_o may_v gather_v hence_o for_o our_o own_o far_a use_n and_o instruction_n if_o there_o be_v therefore_o any_o consolation_n in_o christ_n jesus_n in_o this_o manner_n of_o the_o apostle_n exhortation_n 1._o in_o general_n i_o note_v the_o apostle_n vehement_a obtestation_n of_o the_o philippian_n for_o the_o embrace_v of_o concord_n love_n and_o humility_n that_o they_o may_v never_o fail_v from_o among_o they_o he_o may_v as_o he_o say_v to_o philemon_n have_v command_v they_o in_o christ_n that_o which_o be_v convenient_a 8._o verse_n 8._o yet_o he_o rather_o beseech_v they_o but_o that_o he_o do_v indeed_o thorough_o even_o for_o all_o they_o even_o as_o if_o they_o desire_v no_o other_o recompense_n of_o their_o labour_n and_o travel_n among_o they_o than_o this_o that_o such_o and_o such_o contention_n may_v be_v take_v up_o such_o and_o such_o disorder_n may_v be_v reform_v such_o and_o such_o christian_a piety_n may_v be_v maintain_v they_o be_v to_o remember_v that_o they_o be_v father_n to_o their_o flock_n as_o the_o apostle_n call_v himself_o 2.1_o 1_o cor._n 4.15_o 1_o joh._n 2.1_o and_o as_o john_n also_o impli_v when_o he_o say_v my_o babe_n little_a child_n etc._n etc._n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v to_o deal_v with_o they_o as_o parent_n with_o their_o child_n now_o the_o father_n if_o happy_o his_o child_n be_v at_o odds_n among_o themselves_o what_o do_v he_o he_o call_v they_o unto_o he_o he_o remember_v they_o what_o care_n he_o have_v have_v over_o they_o what_o cost_v he_o have_v be_v at_o with_o they_o what_o his_o love_n have_v be_v towards_o they_o what_o his_o desire_n have_v be_v of_o their_o good_a what_o honour_n duty_n reverence_n and_o obedience_n they_o owe_v unto_o he_o and_o at_o length_n entreat_v they_o that_o if_o they_o have_v any_o care_n of_o these_o thing_n if_o they_o desire_v his_o comfort_n if_o they_o will_v not_o bring_v his_o life_n down_o unto_o the_o dust_n with_o grief_n they_o will_v be_v reconcile_v and_o live_v together_o as_o brethren_n in_o unity_n even_o so_o pastor_n which_o be_v spiritual_a father_n when_o their_o people_n their_o child_n fall_v to_o inconvenience_n which_o any_o way_n breed_v offence_n they_o be_v to_o remember_v they_o with_o what_o care_n they_o labour_v among_o they_o how_o they_o long_v after_o their_o good_a from_o the_o very_a heart_n root_n in_o jesus_n christ_n what_o continual_a mention_n they_o make_v of_o they_o in_o their_o prayer_n unto_o the_o lord_n what_o honour_n again_o duty_n reverence_n and_o obedience_n they_o owe_v unto_o they_o as_o unto_o they_o that_o watch_v for_o their_o soul_n and_o at_o length_n earnest_o to_o beseech_v they_o that_o if_o they_o have_v any_o care_n of_o these_o thing_n if_o they_o desire_v his_o continuance_n with_o comfort_n among_o they_o if_o they_o wish_v that_o he_o may_v give_v up_o his_o account_n for_o they_o in_o that_o day_n with_o joy_n &_o not_o with_o grief_n than_o they_o will_v reform_v such_o and_o such_o disorder_n live_v in_o such_o and_o such_o sort_n as_o become_v the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n jesus_n our_o apostle_n deal_v thus_o with_o the_o philippian_n in_o this_o place_n have_v therein_o leave_v a_o pattern_n for_o all_o pastor_n that_o they_o shall_v so_o deal_v with_o their_o people_n as_o they_o have_v he_o for_o example_n here_o it_o may_v be_v you_o will_v say_v that_o you_o can_v like_v this_o well_o that_o in_o thing_n convenient_a for_o you_o pastor_n will_v thus_o mild_o deal_v with_o you_o as_o parent_n with_o their_o child_n but_o forsooth_o they_o will_v rather_o command_v as_o master_n over_o servant_n and_o oftentimes_o threaten_v the_o law_n they_o will_v when_o thing_n be_v amiss_o and_o this_o you_o can_v brook_v will_v you_o then_o have_v we_o to_o beseech_v you_o &_o mild_o to_o deal_v with_o you_o as_o here_o the_o apostle_n deal_v with_o the_o philippian_n if_o you_o do_v not_o it_o be_v because_o you_o be_v not_o as_o be_v the_o philippian_n be_v you_o as_o be_v the_o philippian_n general_o embrace_v the_o truth_n of_o christ_n jesus_n be_v constant_a in_o the_o faith_n of_o christ_n jesus_n be_v patient_a in_o affliction_n for_o christ_n jesus_n his_o sake_n communicate_v to_o the_o affliction_n of_o the_o saint_n of_o christ_n jesus_n love_v they_o that_o labour_n among_o you_o and_o be_v ever_o in_o the_o lord_n among_o many_o grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n let_v there_o be_v but_o some_o infirmity_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o see_v whether_o we_o will_v not_o beseech_v you_o and_o deal_v with_o you_o as_o here_o the_o apostle_n deal_v with_o these_o philippian_n but_o if_o you_o be_v like_a unto_o the_o galathian_o unstable_a soul_n carry_v about_o with_o every_o wind_n of_o doctrine_n corrupt_v in_o judgement_n corrupt_v in_o manner_n than_o you_o may_v look_v for_o it_o that_o as_o paul_n sharp_o rebuke_v they_o say_v o_o foolish_a galatian_n who_o have_v bewitch_v you_o that_o you_o shall_v not_o obey_v the_o truth_n 3.1_o gal._n 3.1_o so_o we_o will_v learn_v of_o he_o sharp_o to_o reprove_v you_o this_o you_o must_v know_v that_o we_o may_v come_v unto_o you_o either_o with_o a_o rod_n 8._o 1_o cor._n 4.21_o philem_n 8._o or_o in_o love_n and_o in_o the_o spirit_n of_o meekness_n that_o in_o christ_n we_o may_v command_v you_o that_o which_o be_v convenient_a for_o you_o even_o when_o for_o love_n sake_n we_o rather_o beseech_v you_o if_o we_o come_v then_o unto_o you_o with_o a_o rod_n or_o if_o we_o command_v you_o we_o do_v that_o we_o may_v do_v but_o you_o drive_v we_o unto_o it_o by_o your_o inordinate_a way_n and_o dissolute_a life_n which_o as_o canker_a sore_n need_v sharp_a corrosive_n for_o this_o be_v a_o thing_n you_o hear_v which_o we_o urge_v and_o press_v that_o pastor_n be_v to_o labour_v to_o repress_v such_o enormity_n as_o arise_v among_o their_o people_n in_o the_o mild_a sort_n that_o may_v be_v earnest_o beseech_v they_o to_o reform_v such_o thing_n as_o be_v amiss_o and_o again_o if_o we_o come_v unto_o you_o for_o love_n sake_n beseech_v you_o we_o remit_v of_o that_o we_o may_v do_v even_o because_o in_o all_o love_a kindness_n and_o meekness_n of_o the_o spirit_n we_o will_v reconcile_v you_o unto_o god_n and_o join_v you_o unto_o the_o thing_n that_o belong_v unto_o your_o peace_n for_o therefore_o we_o beseech_v you_o that_o by_o mildness_n we_o may_v prevail_v in_o that_o wherein_o of_o right_a we_o may_v command_v but_o this_o withal_o you_o must_v note_v that_o our_o beseech_v of_o you_o be_v to_o be_v unto_o you_o as_o if_o we_o command_v you_o for_o when_o the_o apostle_n say_v 2.1.2_o 2_o thes_n 2.1.2_o we_o beseech_v you_o brethren_z by_o the_o come_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o by_o our_o assemble_v unto_o he_o that_o you_o be_v not_o sudden_o move_v from_o your_o mind_n etc._n etc._n what_o else_o be_v his_o beseech_v of_o the_o thessalonian_o but_o a_o adjuration_n of_o they_o by_o these_o thing_n that_o they_o be_v not_o trouble_v about_o the_o day_n of_o the_o lord_n
us._n look_v particular_o into_o ourselves_o be_v it_o a_o comfort_n unto_o we_o when_o we_o know_v of_o the_o good_a state_n one_o of_o another_o and_o be_v it_o a_o grief_n unto_o we_o when_o we_o hear_v of_o the_o decay_a state_n one_o of_o another_o nay_o common_o we_o repine_v when_o we_o see_v the_o state_n of_o other_o better_o than_o our_o own_o either_o in_o wealth_n or_o in_o honour_n or_o in_o favour_n or_o the_o like_a and_o common_o we_o be_v glad_a when_o we_o see_v another_o especial_o if_o he_o be_v of_o the_o same_o trade_n and_o profession_n with_o we_o go_v down_o the_o wind_n as_o we_o say_v we_o joy_v not_o one_o in_o the_o joy_n of_o another_o we_o grieve_v not_o one_o in_o the_o grief_n of_o another_o but_o contrariwise_o we_o rather_o joy_v one_o in_o the_o grief_n of_o another_o and_o grieve_v one_o in_o the_o joy_n of_o another_o well_o such_o rejoice_a and_o such_o grieve_v be_v not_o good_a let_v we_o even_o so_o many_o as_o fear_n god_n be_v otherwise_o affect_v one_o towards_o another_o let_v we_o take_v comfort_n in_o the_o good_a one_o of_o another_o in_o the_o grow_n up_o in_o wealth_n in_o honour_n in_o favour_n in_o knowledge_n in_o wisdom_n and_o in_o every_o good_a grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n one_o of_o another_o and_o let_v we_o be_v grieve_v in_o the_o misery_n in_o the_o penury_n in_o the_o trouble_n in_o the_o sorrow_n in_o the_o ignorance_n in_o the_o badness_n one_o of_o another_o and_o if_o we_o shall_v do_v this_o so_o many_o precept_n of_o love_n and_o charity_n shall_v not_o be_v needful_a for_o we_o but_o by_o the_o fruit_n of_o a_o unfeigned_a love_n we_o shall_v show_v ourselves_o to_o be_v christian_n indeed_o for_o this_o be_v a_o undoubted_a note_n of_o true_a christianity_n and_o of_o sincere_a love_n so_o mutual_o to_o be_v careful_a one_o for_o another_o that_o we_o rejoice_v one_o in_o another_o good_a and_o be_v sorry_a one_o at_o another_o grief_n or_o misery_n now_o follow_v the_o reason_n why_o he_o send_v he_o for_o i_o have_v no_o man_n like_o mind_a etc._n etc._n this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o he_o rather_o send_v timothy_n then_o any_o of_o the_o rest_n that_o be_v with_o he_o because_o of_o all_o that_o be_v with_o he_o none_o be_v like_o mind_a in_o general_a to_o do_v their_o duty_n in_o their_o ministry_n and_o none_o which_o in_o particular_a will_v so_o faithful_o and_o sincere_o care_n for_o their_o matter_n and_o for_o the_o good_a of_o their_o church_n as_o will_v he_o a_o great_a commendation_n of_o timothy_n which_o be_v send_v great_a love_n in_o the_o apostle_n to_o send_v such_o a_o man_n unto_o they_o and_o very_o behooveful_a for_o they_o to_o receive_v such_o a_o man_n send_v in_o such_o love_n with_o all_o gladness_n and_o to_o make_v much_o of_o such_o all_o point_n very_o well_o worthy_a a_o large_a discourse_n but_o i_o can_v only_o point_v at_o they_o the_o commendation_n of_o timothy_n a_o very_a fit_a pattern_n of_o a_o man_n meet_v to_o be_v commend_v to_o the_o work_n of_o the_o ministry_n and_o to_o be_v place_v over_o a_o congregation_n to_o serve_v in_o the_o tabernacle_n he_o shall_v be_v such_o a_o one_o as_o in_o general_n have_v a_o prompt_a and_o ready_a mind_n to_o do_v the_o work_n of_o the_o lord_n to_o labour_v in_o the_o lord_n his_o vineyard_n to_o do_v the_o work_n of_o a_o evangelist_n and_o of_o a_o minister_n and_o such_o a_o one_o as_o in_o particular_a have_v a_o earnest_a desire_n to_o procure_v their_o good_a unto_o who_o he_o be_v send_v and_o will_v faithful_o and_o diligent_o labour_v to_o present_v they_o over_o who_o he_o be_v set_v pure_a and_o unblameable_a before_o god_n for_o first_o his_o very_a office_n which_o be_v to_o preach_v the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n jesus_n shall_v work_v in_o he_o a_o love_n and_o cheerful_a mind_n to_o teach_v the_o lord_n his_o will_n and_o to_o preach_v the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n jesus_n otherwise_o he_o be_v not_o meet_v to_o be_v commend_v to_o the_o work_n of_o the_o ministry_n or_o at_o least_o not_o so_o meet_v as_o those_o that_o have_v a_o prompt_a mind_n to_o do_v the_o work_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o again_o his_o love_n of_o that_o people_n unto_o which_o he_o be_v send_v shall_v make_v he_o faithful_o to_o labour_n to_o gain_v they_o unto_o christ_n that_o they_o may_v be_v his_o crown_n and_o his_o joy_n in_o that_o day_n otherwise_o he_o be_v not_o meet_v to_o be_v set_v over_o that_o people_n or_o at_o least_o not_o so_o meet_v as_o they_o that_o will_v faithful_o labour_v to_o that_o purpose_n again_o the_o apostle_n his_o care_n to_o send_v such_o a_o man_n unto_o they_o may_v be_v a_o good_a pattern_n to_o bishop_n and_o patron_n of_o benefice_n what_o manner_n of_o man_n to_o commend_v unto_o the_o work_n of_o the_o ministry_n and_o to_o commit_v the_o charge_n of_o soul_n unto_o in_o the_o like_a care_n and_o love_n of_o god_n people_n they_o shall_v commend_v such_o man_n to_o this_o work_n and_o this_o charge_n as_o we_o have_v already_o speak_v of_o man_n willing_a to_o do_v the_o work_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o which_o will_v faithful_o care_v for_o their_o matter_n over_o who_o they_o be_v set_v otherwise_o to_o say_v the_o least_o they_o show_v themselves_o not_o to_o have_v that_o care_n and_o love_n of_o god_n people_n which_o the_o apostle_n have_v of_o these_o philippian_n whereas_o their_o care_n shall_v be_v the_o great_a because_o they_o commend_v unto_o a_o continual_a charge_n and_o paul_n only_o send_v timothy_n to_o continue_v for_o a_o season_n with_o the_o philippian_n but_o the_o speak_n of_o these_o thing_n in_o this_o place_n be_v to_o little_a purpose_n therefore_o i_o brief_o pass_v they_o over_o the_o three_o thing_n which_o i_o observe_v in_o these_o word_n be_v how_o behooveful_a it_o be_v for_o the_o philippian_n to_o receive_v such_o a_o man_n send_v in_o such_o love_n with_o all_o gladness_n and_o to_o make_v of_o such_o for_o therefore_o not_o doubt_n do_v the_o apostle_n the_o rather_o commend_v he_o so_o as_o have_v be_v say_v that_o so_o the_o rather_o they_o may_v receive_v he_o and_o embrace_v his_o doctrine_n the_o more_o glad_o and_o be_v the_o more_o careful_a that_o he_o may_v not_o mislike_v any_o thing_n among_o they_o when_o he_o shall_v come_v among_o they_o and_o this_o may_v teach_v you_o in_o what_o reverence_n you_o ought_v to_o have_v such_o man_n when_o they_o be_v set_v over_o you_o in_o the_o lord_n even_o for_o the_o word_n sake_n which_o they_o preach_v unto_o you_o they_o faithful_o care_v for_o your_o matter_n not_o for_o your_o worldly_a matter_n either_o in_o respect_n of_o you_o or_o of_o themselves_o for_o they_o seek_v not_o you_o but_o you_o but_o they_o faithful_o care_v for_o your_o spiritual_a matter_n even_o for_o the_o salvation_n of_o your_o soul_n in_o christ_n his_o stead_n they_o beseech_v you_o and_o exhort_v you_o unto_o the_o thing_n christian_n general_o or_o in_o pastor_n particular_o for_o such_o be_v man_n love_n general_o that_o they_o do_v not_o great_o long_a after_o one_o another_o to_o see_v they_o if_o they_o be_v of_o the_o truth_n a_o scandalous_a man_n for_o life_n one_o who_o god_n be_v his_o belly_n and_o who_o glory_n be_v to_o his_o shame_n as_o too_o too_o often_o after_o such_o light_n follow_v such_o darkness_n how_o great_a cause_n then_o shall_v you_o have_v to_o wail_v and_o lament_v and_o with_o jeremie_n to_o say_v how_o be_v the_o gold_n become_v so_o dim_a while_o then_o you_o have_v they_o how_o ought_v you_o to_o pray_v for_o they_o that_o long_o you_o may_v have_v they_o and_o enjoy_v the_o benenefit_n of_o their_o labour_n but_o how_o far_o otherwise_o do_v we_o a_o great_a many_o continuance_n of_o his_o life_n that_o by_o all_o mean_v we_o labour_v to_o make_v he_o weary_a of_o his_o life_n if_o we_o have_v such_o a_o pastor_n as_o neither_o can_v nor_o will_v teach_v we_o in_o the_o wholesome_a word_n of_o truth_n one_o that_o will_v suffer_v we_o to_o go_v on_o in_o our_o sin_n and_o never_o awake_v we_o out_o of_o our_o dead_a sleep_n of_o security_n one_o that_o will_v sow_v pillow_n under_o our_o elbow_n and_o cry_v peace_n peace_n when_o there_o be_v no_o peace_n one_o that_o will_v sort_v himself_o unto_o our_o manner_n and_o apply_v himself_o unto_o our_o do_v so_o continue_v to_o have_v they_o that_o labour_n among_o you_o in_o singular_a love_n for_o their_o work_n sake_n let_v the_o foot_n of_o they_o that_o bring_v you_o the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n jesus_n be_v beautiful_a unto_o you_o count_n the_o life_n of_o your_o faithful_a teacher_n a_o blessing_n of_o the_o lord_n upon_o you_o and_o pray_v you_o unto_o the_o lord_n when_o you_o have_v such_o a_o blessing_n for_o the_o continuance_n thereof_o unto_o you_o this_o blessing_n be_v as_o needful_a for_o you_o as_o the_o great_a blessing_n of_o this_o life_n and_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n you_o know_v make_v mention_n of_o some_o bad_a one_o it_o be_v easy_a to_o guess_v who_o at_o this_o day_n do_v most_o resemble_v they_o 3.6_o 2_o tim_n 3.6_o which_o creep_v into_o house_n and_o lead_v captive_a simple_a woman_n lade_v with_o sin_n and_o lead_v with_o diverse_a lust_n etc._n etc._n and_o our_o saviour_n likewise_o make_v mention_n of_o such_o as_o compass_v do_v we_o teach_v for_o doctrine_n man_n precept_n do_v we_o handle_v the_o word_n deceitful_o do_v we_o keep_v back_o any_o of_o god_n counsel_n nay_o in_o all_o these_o thing_n as_o in_o the_o whole_a work_n of_o our_o ministry_n we_o study_v to_o approve_v ourselves_o both_o before_o the_o lord_n and_o before_o man_n a_o exception_n they_o have_v but_o almost_o they_o know_v not_o what_o the_o truth_n be_v they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o try_v the_o spirit_n whether_o they_o be_v of_o god_n and_o therefore_o they_o approve_v they_o which_o prophecy_n lie_v unto_o they_o out_o of_o their_o own_o brain_n but_o you_o belove_v learn_v to_o know_v and_o approve_v he_o who_o give_v plain_a proof_n that_o he_o serve_v the_o lord_n in_o the_o gospel_n in_o the_o sincere_a and_o faithful_a preach_v thereof_o yea_o but_o you_o will_v say_v unto_o i_o we_o will_v glad_o approve_v they_o that_o serve_v the_o lord_n in_o the_o gospel_n but_o how_o shall_v we_o know_v who_o serve_v the_o lord_n in_o the_o gospel_n for_o they_o that_o be_v whole_o devote_a unto_o the_o service_n of_o that_o man_n of_o sin_n and_o prophecy_n lie_v out_o of_o their_o own_o brain_n will_v trust_n in_o the_o lord_n and_o submit_v themselves_o unto_o his_o will_n for_o both_o health_n and_o sickness_n they_o be_v of_o the_o lord_n and_o both_o in_o health_n and_o in_o sickness_n we_o shall_v put_v our_o trust_n in_o the_o lord_n and_o submit_v ourselves_o unto_o his_o will_n yet_o so_o choice_n we_o be_v that_o we_o can_v be_v content_a to_o receive_v health_n from_o the_o lord_n endure_v what_o he_o lay_v upon_o they_o and_o suffer_v not_o their_o faith_n or_o their_o hope_n to_o fail_v but_o so_o prepare_v they_o unto_o he_o that_o come_v death_n come_v life_n they_o can_v sometime_o no_o doubt_n they_o be_v sick_a that_o see_v the_o goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n towards_o they_o in_o time_n of_o their_o sickness_n they_o may_v the_o rather_o praise_v the_o lord_n for_o his_o goodness_n and_o study_v to_o glorify_v his_o name_n in_o the_o time_n of_o their_o health_n not_o to_o trouble_v you_o with_o more_o reason_n hereof_o the_o last_o reason_n why_o the_o lord_n visit_v his_o child_n with_o sickness_n be_v to_o put_v they_o in_o mind_n both_o of_o that_o sin_n which_o dwell_v in_o they_o and_o also_o of_o their_o mortality_n for_o sickness_n be_v both_o the_o for_o they_o if_o the_o course_n most_o behooveful_a for_o our_o friend_n be_v somewhat_o hurtful_a for_o ourselves_o we_o will_v rather_o think_v of_o some_o other_o course_n than_o that_o whereby_o we_o may_v so_o help_v our_o friend_n as_o that_o withal_o we_o may_v not_o hurt_v ourselves_o and_o so_o that_o we_o show_v ourselves_o friend_n we_o think_v it_o be_v well_o though_o we_o do_v not_o therefore_o careful_o look_v unto_o the_o thing_n whereon_o we_o set_v our_o heart_n or_o whereunto_o we_o set_v our_o hand_n be_v it_o a_o thing_n of_o good_a report_n which_o may_v make_v we_o well_o speak_v of_o among_o man_n let_v we_o then_o think_v on_o it_o and_o do_v it_o that_o so_o the_o truth_n which_o we_o profess_v may_v be_v well_o speak_v of_o but_o be_v it_o a_o thing_n of_o of_o truth_n be_v evil_o speak_v of_o by_o thing_n of_o good_a report_n our_o god_n and_o his_o truth_n and_o ourselves_o shall_v have_v honour_n but_o by_o thing_n of_o evil_a report_n our_o god_n and_o his_o truth_n and_o ourselves_o shall_v be_v dishonour_v let_v we_o therefore_o think_v on_o and_o do_v whatsoever_o thing_n may_v bring_v on_o we_o a_o good_a report_n and_o avoid_v both_o the_o thought_n and_o the_o deed_n of_o whatsoever_o may_v bring_v a_o ill_a report_n upon_o us._n the_o last_o thing_n which_o i_o note_v in_o this_o general_a conclusion_n of_o the_o apostle_n exhortation_n or_o rather_o in_o the_o exhortation_n be_v that_o the_o apostle_n will_v have_v the_o philippian_n to_o think_v on_o these_o thing_n and_o to_o do_v these_o thing_n for_o these_o two_o howsoever_o they_o be_v sever_v in_o place_n by_o our_o apostle_n yet_o be_v they_o to_o be_v join_v in_o the_o open_n of_o these_o word_n and_o in_o follow_v of_o the_o apostle_n exhortation_n he_o will_v therefore_o have_v the_o philippian_n to_o think_v on_o these_o thing_n that_o be_v to_o enter_v into_o a_o diligent_a consideration_n of_o these_o thing_n with_o themselves_o and_o in_o the_o meditation_n of_o his_o heart_n and_o the_o word_n of_o his_o mouth_n may_v be_v acceptable_a in_o the_o sight_n of_o the_o lord_n no_o doubt_n that_o both_o in_o his_o heart_n he_o may_v think_v on_o and_o with_o his_o mouth_n may_v speak_v and_o in_o his_o life_n may_v practice_v those_o thing_n which_o be_v good_a and_o right_n in_o his_o eye_n and_o in_o another_o place_n he_o the_o lord_n we_o will_v sit_v it_o may_v be_v at_o the_o right_a hand_n and_o left_a hand_n of_o jesus_n in_o his_o kingdom_n but_o we_o can_v away_o with_o it_o to_o drink_v of_o his_o cup._n in_o a_o word_n we_o will_v make_v a_o show_n of_o godliness_n but_o we_o deny_v the_o power_n thereof_o we_o will_v seem_v to_o profess_v jesus_n christ_n but_o we_o do_v turn_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n gentile_n have_v make_v one_o body_n and_o break_v down_o the_o partition_n wall_n which_o be_v between_o we_o and_o they_o sometime_o the_o king_n of_o peace_n under_o the_o covert_n of_o who_o wing_n we_o live_v in_o peace_n and_o sometime_o the_o god_n of_o peace_n as_o both_o here_o and_o often_o elsewhere_o now_o he_o be_v call_v the_o god_n of_o peace_n both_o because_o of_o our_o reconciliation_n which_o he_o have_v wrought_v by_o jesus_n christ_n for_o so_o it_o be_v say_v 5.18_o 2._o cor._n 5.18_o that_o he_o have_v reconcile_v we_o unto_o himself_o by_o jesus_n christ_n and_o because_o of_o that_o peace_n of_o conscience_n which_o he_o communicate_v unto_o we_o through_o our_o reconciliation_n with_o he_o by_o jesus_n christ_n 5.1_o rom._n 5.1_o for_o so_o it_o be_v say_v that_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n we_o have_v peace_n towards_o god_n through_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o likewise_o because_o of_o that_o outward_a peace_n which_o he_o give_v we_o in_o the_o world_n so_o far_o forth_o as_o be_v for_o his_o glory_n and_o our_o good_a when_o then_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o the_o god_n of_o peace_n shall_v be_v with_o they_o the_o fruit_n of_o god_n presence_n with_o they_o be_v thereby_o signify_v in_o that_o he_o be_v call_v the_o god_n of_o peace_n for_o hereupon_o thus_o i_o understand_v this_o promise_n that_o if_o they_o think_v on_o and_o do_v these_o thing_n which_o he_o have_v commend_v unto_o they_o than_o the_o god_n of_o peace_n shall_v be_v with_o they_o to_o reconcile_v they_o unto_o himself_o to_o give_v they_o peace_n of_o conscience_n through_o their_o reconciliation_n with_o he_o and_o to_o bless_v they_o with_o outward_a peace_n in_o the_o world_n so_o far_o forth_o as_o shall_v be_v for_o his_o glory_n and_o their_o good_a so_o that_o the_o fruit_n of_o their_o innocence_n and_o piety_n shall_v be_v peace_n inward_a and_o outward_a with_o god_n in_o their_o soul_n and_o in_o the_o world_n where_o first_o in_o that_o the_o apostle_n the_o rather_o to_o enforce_v his_o exhortation_n annex_v this_o merciful_a promise_n that_o in_o so_o do_v the_o god_n of_o peace_n shall_v be_v with_o they_o i_o any_o like_a thing_n so_o stir_v up_o the_o ambitious_a sensual_a and_o covetous_a worldling_n to_o run_v after_o their_o vanity_n and_o shall_v not_o the_o promise_n of_o the_o lord_n stir_v up_o his_o child_n to_o follow_v after_o such_o thing_n as_o have_v such_o promise_n of_o reward_n from_o he_o shall_v the_o word_n of_o wind_n and_o worse_a so_o prevail_v with_o they_o to_o run_v after_o recovery_n and_o restore_v unto_o health_n that_o the_o report_n which_o they_o have_v hear_v be_v true_a the_o apostle_n do_v assure_v they_o first_o affirm_v his_o sickness_n and_o no_o doubt_n he_o be_v sick_a and_o then_o the_o extremity_n of_o his_o sickness_n very_o near_o unto_o death_n in_o the_o signification_n of_o his_o recovery_n and_o restore_n unto_o health_n which_o be_v in_o the_o disease_n of_o the_o body_n how_o faithful_a a_o servant_n of_o jesus_n christ_n timothy_n be_v you_o hear_v a_o little_a before_o upon_o occasion_n of_o the_o apostle_n his_o promise_n to_o send_v he_o unto_o the_o philippian_n vers_n 19_o and_o how_o subject_a he_o be_v unto_o sickness_n may_v appear_v by_o that_o advice_n which_o the_o apostle_n give_v unto_o he_o in_o his_o former_a
