we_o treat_v of_o those_o who_o in_o general_n make_v it_o their_o design_n to_o live_v unto_o god_n the_o great_a part_n of_o these_o i_o do_v suppose_v to_o be_v engage_v industrious_o in_o some_o call_v or_o course_n of_o life_n and_o these_o thing_n be_v apt_a to_o fill_v their_o mind_n as_o well_o as_o to_o take_v up_o their_o time_n and_o much_o to_o conform_v they_o to_o their_o own_o likeness_n much_o converse_n with_o the_o world_n be_v apt_a to_o beget_v a_o worldly_a frame_n in_o man_n and_o earthly_a thing_n will_v taint_v the_o mind_n with_o earthlyness_n and_o although_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n in_o all_o our_o secular_a occasion_n also_o to_o live_v to_o god_n and_o whether_o we_o eat_v or_o drink_v to_o do_v all_o thing_n unto_o his_o glory_n yet_o they_o be_v apt_a to_o unframe_v the_o mind_n so_o as_o to_o make_v it_o unready_a unto_o spiritual_a thing_n and_o heavenly_a contemplation_n there_o be_v a_o command_n indeed_o that_o we_o shall_v pray_v always_o which_o at_o least_o require_v of_o we_o a_o readiness_n of_o mind_n to_o lay_v hold_n of_o all_o occasion_n and_o opportunity_n for_o prayer_n yet_o none_o will_v deny_v but_o that_o there_o be_v great_a advantage_n in_o a_o due_a preparation_n for_o that_o and_o all_o other_o duty_n of_o religion_n to_o empty_v therefore_o and_o purge_v our_o mind_n of_o secular_a earthly_a business_n design_n projection_n account_n dependency_n of_o thing_n one_o on_o another_o with_o reason_v about_o they_o as_o far_o as_o in_o we_o lie_v be_v a_o duty_n require_v of_o we_o in_o all_o our_o they_o up_o unto_o strict_a observance_n under_o the_o consideration_n of_o sin_n if_o not_o precise_o attend_v unto_o only_o i_o desire_v to_o give_v direction_n such_o as_o may_v be_v helpful_a i_o shall_v recommend_v to_o the_o godly_a reader_n a_o threefold_a preparatory_a duty_n to_o the_o right_a observation_n of_o a_o day_n of_o holy_a rest_n unto_o the_o lord_n 1_o of_o meditation_n 2_o of_o supplication_n 3_o of_o instruction_n unto_o such_o as_o have_v other_o depend_v on_o they_o 1_o of_o meditation_n and_o this_o answer_n particular_o the_o reason_n we_o have_v give_v for_o the_o necessity_n of_o these_o preparatory_a duty_n for_o herein_o be_v the_o mind_n of_o believer_n to_o exercise_v themselves_o unto_o such_o thought_n of_o the_o majesty_n holiness_n and_o greatness_n of_o god_n as_o may_v prepare_v they_o to_o serve_v he_o with_o reverence_n and_o godly_a fear_n the_o nature_n of_o the_o duty_n require_v that_o this_o meditation_n shall_v first_o what_o he_o have_v do_v as_o that_o which_o be_v suit_v unto_o the_o end_v aim_v at_o namely_o the_o expression_n of_o his_o greatness_n goodness_n and_o wisdom_n unto_o his_o rational_a creature_n and_o his_o glory_n through_o their_o obedience_n thereon_o as_o on_o the_o like_a occasion_n he_o be_v say_v to_o rest_n in_o his_o love_n and_o to_o rejoice_v with_o sing_v zeph._n 3._o 17._o now_o in_o the_o work_n and_o rest_v of_o god_n thus_o state_v do_v the_o whole_a rule_n of_o the_o obedience_n of_o man_n original_o consist_v and_o therein_o be_v he_o to_o seek_v also_o his_o own_o rest_n as_o his_o happiness_n and_o blessedness_n for_o god_n have_v not_o declare_v any_o other_o way_n for_o his_o instruction_n in_o the_o end_n of_o his_o creation_n that_o be_v his_o obedience_n unto_o he_o and_o blessedness_n in_o he_o but_o in_o and_o by_o his_o own_o work_n and_o rest._n this_o then_o be_v the_o first_o end_n of_o this_o holy_a rest._n and_o it_o must_v always_o be_v
