mile_n to_o get_v they_o a_o preacher_n who_o they_o have_v persecute_v when_o he_o have_v teach_v they_o the_o mystery_n of_o iniquity_n in_o themselves_o their_o privy_a pride_n hypocrisy_n spiritual_a wickedness_n of_o unbelief_n ignorance_n and_o love_n of_o the_o world_n but_o especial_o their_o old_a adam_n plack_v their_o mufflerâ—_n from_o they_o and_o lay_v they_o naked_a and_o awake_v to_o their_o own_o conscience_n oh_o it_o be_v the_o joy_n of_o the_o unregenerate_a man_n when_o he_o can_v make_v himself_o believe_v he_o be_v not_o the_o man_n he_o yet_o know_v or_o may_v that_o he_o be_v 1â—_n jer._n 1â—_n alas_o sin_n lie_v deep_a and_o who_o can_v gage_v the_o deceit_n of_o the_o heart_n sâ—ue_v only_o the_o lord_n and_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o law_n which_o divide_v between_o the_o spirit_n and_o the_o soul_n therefore_o how_o shall_v this_o teach_v we_o both_o minister_n and_o people_n to_o loathe_v all_o generality_n and_o to_o learn_v the_o law_n in_o the_o true_a sense_n and_o the_o through-enlightning_a of_o it_o it_o be_v a_o foolish_a speech_n of_o some_o who_o desire_v that_o they_o may_v fall_v into_o some_o gross_a sin_n to_o humble_v they_o by_o but_o howsoever_o the_o lord_n awaken_v some_o by_o the_o loud_a cry_n of_o their_o foul_a sin_n as_o drunkenness_n blasphemy_n or_o the_o like_a sure_o that_o which_o be_v like_a to_o prevail_v with_o the_o civil_a and_o moral_a sort_n be_v the_o enlighten_v of_o the_o ten_o commandment_n for_o they_o can_v wash_v off_o actual_a sin_n which_o colour_n as_o fast_o as_o they_o offend_v lay_v good_a against_o evil_n but_o when_o the_o spring_n of_o their_o curse_a nature_n appear_v which_o run_v upon_o they_o continual_o i_o say_v then_o this_o body_n of_o death_n will_v do_v it_o 7.24_o light_a with_o application_n to_o the_o soul_n self_n in_o special_a again_o have_v be_v thus_o convince_v in_o conscience_n i_o be_o this_o sinner_n if_o the_o law_n still_o work_v it_o proceed_v to_o the_o second_o degree_n of_o convince_a which_o be_v not_o only_o a_o application_n of_o sin_n to_o herself_o but_o a_o due_a yield_v of_o the_o soul_n to_o lie_v under_o the_o bondage_n and_o fear_n of_o punishment_n belong_v to_o such_o a_o sinner_n woeful_a estate_n a_o man_n may_v hear_v and_o not_o so_o much_o as_o be_v enlighten_v he_o may_v have_v great_a light_n and_o yet_o never_o be_v convince_v in_o conscience_n he_o may_v be_v convince_v and_o yet_o never_o be_v due_o hold_v under_o any_o true_a bondage_n as_o we_o see_v in_o saul_n and_o other_o but_o the_o law_n work_v all_o q._n what_o then_o be_v this_o work_n of_o conviction_n by_o the_o law_n a._n it_o be_v the_o second_o work_n of_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o law_n by_o the_o efficacy_n whereof_o the_o soul_n believe_v herself_o to_o be_v that_o which_o she_o know_v to_o wit_n this_o sinful_a and_o curse_a one_o a_o most_o powerful_a work_n yet_o no_o other_o than_o the_o poor_a minister_n of_o god_n enable_v by_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o law_n may_v and_o do_v perform_v for_o why_o when_o the_o poor_a soul_n see_v that_o the_o lord_n have_v reach_v she_o out_o the_o key_n of_o light_a to_o have_v she_o to_o do_v save_v to_o let_v all_o other_o guilty_a one_o pass_v and_o to_o pass_v sentence_n upon_o herself_o confess_v she_o be_v this_o miserable_a sinner_n neither_o can_v any_o course_n to_o any_o set_a measure_n he_o can_v restrain_v or_o enlarge_v as_o he_o please_v many_o under_o a_o good_a ministry_n or_o teach_n have_v little_o feel_v this_o way_n of_o god_n doubt_v usual_o a._n among_o other_o these_o three_o apparent_o first_o stoppage_n of_o a_o course_n in_o evil_a open_o second_o inward_a unsettle_v of_o a_o rot_a peace_n three_o hold_v down_o the_o soul_n under_o bondage_n the_o first_o stop_v in_o a_o course_n of_o evil_n this_o differ_v fâ—â—â—_n that_o effect_n of_o providence_n whereby_o the_o lord_n do_v limit_v the_o number_n and_o measure_n of_o sin_n in_o the_o wicked_a for_o the_o preservation_n of_o peace_n and_o civil_a society_n for_o though_o that_o be_v a_o divine_a work_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o the_o immediate_a work_n of_o the_o law_n but_o either_o a_o providence_n without_o a_o word_n or_o else_o by_o the_o general_a power_n of_o the_o word_n restrain_v sin_n but_o this_o be_v a_o special_a kind_n of_o restraint_n issue_v from_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n for_o the_o good_a of_o the_o soul_n so_o restrain_v and_o it_o be_v a_o loathsomeness_n of_o the_o soul_n find_v no_o joy_n in_o old_a course_n behold_v they_o with_o repent_v and_o yrk_v of_o thought_n wish_v they_o undo_v and_o abhor_v to_o return_v to_o they_o through_o the_o terror_n of_o conscience_n be_v under_o this_o whip_n of_o the_o law_n when_o horror_n lie_v upon_o saul_n act._n 9_o his_o letter_n in_o his_o pocket_n and_o commission_n from_o the_o priest_n and_o trade_n itself_o of_o pursivantship_n be_v bitter_a no_o more_o of_o that_o for_o the_o eat_v now_o the_o reason_n of_o this_o work_n be_v because_o while_o the_o soul_n be_v in_o her_o hurry_n she_o have_v no_o care_n to_o hear_v god_n speak_v to_o she_o she_o be_v so_o busy_a with_o her_o trade_n that_o all_o be_v speak_v as_o it_o be_v in_o she_o
love_v a_o cheerful_a giver_n so_o far_o shall_v they_o be_v from_o censure_v other_o who_o welter_v not_o as_o themselves_o under_o their_o bondage_n he_o be_v cast_v down_o enough_o who_o be_v in_o case_n to_o hear_v of_o raise_v up_o second_o on_o the_o left_a hand_n those_o do_v far_o worse_a abuze_n this_o doctrine_n who_o be_v weary_a of_o terror_n and_o bondage_n as_o soon_o as_o they_o fall_v into_o it_o cast_v with_o themselves_o how_o they_o may_v shake_v it_o off_o pretend_v that_o this_o be_v no_o estate_n to_o serve_v god_n in_o and_o so_o they_o return_v some_o to_o their_o sport_n and_o pastime_n some_o their_o pleasure_n some_o their_o profit_n some_o their_o old_a companion_n some_o prove_v more_o desperate_a worldling_n and_o other_o with_o cain_n to_o build_v they_o city_n and_o while_o out_o their_o time_n here_o with_o sing_v sad_a thought_n away_o let_v these_o know_v that_o the_o course_n they_o take_v be_v violent_a and_o much_o like_a to_o they_o who_o to_o stop_v the_o cry_n of_o their_o infant_n put_v into_o the_o brazen_a belly_n of_o moloc_n do_v oppress_v their_o ear_n with_o the_o noise_n of_o pipe_n and_o tabret_o as_o their_o child_n cry_n prevayl_v to_o bring_v a_o heavy_a plague_n upon_o they_o which_o no_o pipe_n can_v still_o so_o when_o the_o sleep_n of_o these_o epicure_n be_v over_o they_o shall_v awake_v with_o such_o sad_a objection_n offer_v itself_o viz_o that_o paul_n rom_n 7.7_o say_v when_o the_o law_n come_v sin_n reviue_v how_o then_o be_v terror_n the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n paul_n do_v in_o that_o place_n so_o affirm_v the_o former_a that_o he_o deny_v not_o the_o latter_a add_v this_o but_o i_o die_v note_v that_o both_o may_v stand_v together_o a._n both_o may_v be_v together_o in_o one_o unregenerate_a man_n according_a to_o diverse_a part_n for_o when_o the_o law_n have_v slay_v conscience_n than_o concupiscence_n reviue_v and_o we_o must_v distinguish_v between_o the_o natural_a work_n of_o the_o law_n and_o the_o accidental_a terror_n be_v the_o proper_a work_n of_o it_o and_o when_o it_o be_v wrought_v it_o be_v as_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v but_o when_o rebellion_n arise_v it_o be_v otherwise_o then_o ought_v to_o be_v when_o the_o sun_n reviu_v and_o sweeten_v the_o earth_n it_o work_v proper_o when_o it_o draw_v up_o the_o noisome_a stench_n of_o a_o dunghill_n to_o poizon_n the_o air_n its_o accidental_a come_v from_o the_o loathsomnes_n of_o the_o dunghill_n so_o when_o sin_n rebel_n she_o do_v her_o kind_n for_o she_o do_v as_o the_o devil_n do_v when_o he_o go_v out_o he_o foamd_v &_o rage_v and_o tyrannize_v first_o it_o proceed_v from_o the_o fullness_n of_o the_o stomach_n of_o sin_n loath_a and_o disdain_v to_o yield_v to_o a_o new_a guest_n but_o however_o sin_n do_v her_o kind_n yet_o if_o the_o law_n do_v set_v herself_o to_o do_v she_o this_o rebellion_n shall_v not_o hinder_v the_o kill_a power_n of_o it_o it_o shall_v rather_o increase_v it_o for_o when_o the_o soul_n come_v to_o see_v how_o loathsome_a sin_n have_v make_v she_o that_o even_o when_o the_o law_n by_o her_o righteous_a good_a nature_n seek_v to_o destroy_v sin_n than_o she_o most_o covet_v it_o cleave_v to_o it_o and_o rush_n herself_o upon_o it_o to_o justle_v it_o aside_o this_o make_v she_o conclude_v herself_o out_o of_o measure_n woeful_a by_o sin_n out_o of_o measure_n sinful_a and_o when_o rebellion_n begin_v to_o be_v tame_v the_o heart_n grow_v more_o and_o more_o under_o fear_n although_o nothing_o hinder_v why_o both_o may_v not_o at_o one_o time_n be_v together_o only_o in_o the_o bad_a common_o it_o increase_v till_o it_o have_v cast_v out_o all_o terror_n and_o so_o cause_v the_o soul_n to_o wax_v worse_o for_o the_o law_n enlighten_v because_o the_o sweet_a of_o sin_n have_v so_o prevail_v that_o with_o a_o high_a hand_n of_o rebellion_n it_o strengthen_v the_o jollity_n of_o sin_n and_o so_o reviu_v in_o the_o godly_a in_o who_o god_n will_v use_v the_o law_n as_o a_o seed_n of_o regeneration_n and_o a_o way_n to_o a_o remedy_n the_o lord_n will_v enlarge_v terror_n and_o conviction_n so_o far_o that_o rebellion_n shall_v not_o stand_v it_o out_o but_o stoop_v with_o confusion_n under_o the_o power_n of_o it_o it_o be_v certain_a many_o perish_v at_o this_o second_o rock_n of_o rebellion_n have_v shoot_v the_o gulf_n
