and_o merit_v more_o for_o the_o former_a exercise_v but_o one_o virtue_n that_o be_v continency_n but_o the_o late_a exercise_v two_o namely_o continency_n and_o religion_n the_o noble_a of_o all_o moral_a virtue_n moreover_o to_o promise_v a_o good_a work_n be_v a_o good_a thing_n and_o to_o perform_v a_o promise_n be_v also_o good_a and_o therefore_o for_o they_o both_o a_o man_n be_v hold_v shall_v not_o the_o vow_n of_o the_o religious_a be_v accept_v by_o i_o when_o as_o they_o be_v make_v for_o my_o honour_n and_o glory_n how_o be_v it_o that_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v dear_a to_o i_o when_o as_o they_o be_v the_o mean_n of_o attain_v perfection_n which_o i_o do_v so_o earnest_o desire_v at_o their_o hand_n o_o how_o much_o shall_v some_o earthly_a lord_n glory_n if_o his_o servant_n shall_v make_v he_o any_o such_o promise_n he_o will_v no_o doubt_n exult_v for_o joy_n though_o he_o shall_v not_o be_v assure_v whether_o they_o have_v do_v it_o in_o earnest_n &_o from_o of_o the_o poor_a and_o bring_v he_o to_o so_o great_a a_o blindness_n as_o it_o bereave_v he_o of_o all_o fear_n of_o god_n &_o man_n without_o any_o regard_n have_v of_o his_o own_o soul_n good_a neither_o do_v man_n desirous_a of_o get_v more_o make_v a_o stand_v here_o 3._o he_o that_o be_v once_o become_v rich_a eftsoons_o raise_v up_o his_o head_n become_v arrogant_a and_o proud_a undertake_v to_o patronize_v the_o wicked_a and_o out_o of_o a_o madness_n run_v headlong_o into_o all_o naughtiness_n from_o these_o evil_n and_o many_o more_o voluntary_a poverty_n free_v the_o mind_n while_o it_o do_v take_v from_o he_o not_o only_o the_o riches_n that_o he_o have_v but_o also_o the_o hope_n &_o desire_v of_o have_v which_o be_v the_o begin_n of_o ruin_n both_o of_o body_n and_o soul_n and_o procure_v such_o tranquillity_n and_o peace_n as_o it_o make_v the_o mind_n fit_a and_o dispose_v to_o the_o contemplation_n of_o heavenly_a thing_n and_o to_o all_o manner_n of_o spiritual_a action_n whence_o it_o be_v that_o a_o religious_a man_n so_o soon_o as_o he_o be_v become_v poor_a consequent_o become_v humble_a modest_a meek_a a_o friend_n of_o the_o good_a and_o of_o virtue_n and_o a_o enemy_n of_o the_o bad_a and_o a_o contemner_n of_o vice_n 4._o that_o poverty_n also_o profit_v the_o body_n be_v out_o of_o question_n we_o do_v not_o desire_v any_o thing_n wrought_v against_o most_o dear_a friend_n for_o the_o spoil_v they_o of_o their_o treasure_n but_o the_o poor_a sleep_n in_o security_n they_o travail_n night_n and_o day_n out_o of_o all_o fear_n they_o be_v trouble_v with_o no_o suspicion_n because_o they_o have_v nothing_o to_o loose_v add_v to_o this_o also_o that_o poverty_n hinder_v none_o in_o his_o travail_n nor_o bring_v in_o or_o reprehensible_a even_o in_o a_o pagan_a much_o more_o in_o a_o secular_a christian_a man_n to_o use_v a_o doubtful_a speech_n or_o equivocation_n to_o deceive_v another_o and_o to_o have_v one_o mortify_v themselves_o that_o be_v to_o be_v require_v these_o man_n do_v often_o stumble_v in_o their_o way_n because_o they_o prejudice_n and_o hurt_v their_o health_n and_o yet_o they_o arrive_v not_o to_o that_o holiness_n of_o life_n whereunto_o they_o labour_v and_o whereas_o they_o be_v destitute_a of_o joy_n and_o comfort_n both_o from_o within_o and_o without_o all_o the_o fault_n be_v ascribe_v to_o overmuch_o devotion_n which_o be_v no_o such_o matter_n for_o it_o be_v not_o devotion_n that_o cause_v either_o infirmity_n or_o anguish_n of_o mind_n but_o indiscretion_n and_o that_o towards_o perfection_n and_o if_o there_o be_v not_o any_o thing_n else_o in_o this_o life_n it_o be_v and_o aught_o alone_a to_o be_v enough_o for_o a_o religious_a man_n to_o pass_v over_o his_o life_n in_o a_o exceed_a joy_n for_o a_o servant_n can_v have_v any_o great_a pleasure_n and_o contentment_n then_o to_o understand_v that_o all_o his_o office_n and_o service_n be_v please_v unto_o his_o lord_n and_o if_o they_o turn_v their_o eye_n to_o their_o superior_n they_o experience_v the_o same_o by_o tranquillity_n of_o mind_n for_o see_v they_o be_v studious_a and_o desirous_a perfection_n they_o must_v needs_o be_v quiet_a peaceable_a obedient_a most_o observant_a of_o religious_a discipline_n and_o consequent_o in_o high_a esteem_n and_o belove_a of_o their_o superior_n which_o if_o they_o once_o get_v knowledge_n off_o they_o can_v but_o rejoice_v great_o 5._o now_o if_o we_o look_v upon_o other_o with_o who_o they_o live_v &_o keep_v company_n they_o have_v no_o cause_n of_o grief_n at_o al._n for_o see_v they_o attend_v to_o the_o exercise_n of_o virtue_n they_o hinder_v or_o hurt_v none_o but_o have_v a_o care_n to_o do_v good_a to_o all_o as_o to_o themselves_o and_o therefore_o they_o entertain_v peace_n with_o all_o and_o where_o peace_n be_v there_o be_v true_a joy_n and_o more_o than_o that_o virtue_n make_v they_o amiable_a not_o only_o to_o their_o friend_n but_o to_o their_o enemy_n also_o for_o the_o virtuous_a be_v belove_v honour_a and_o respect_v of_o all_o in_o so_o much_o that_o a_o religious_a man_n can_v never_o want_v internal_a consolation_n and_o comfort_n again_o if_o they_o consider_v themselves_o they_o can_v be_v without_o consolation_n also_o for_o it_o be_v proper_a to_o virtue_n wherein_o they_o exercise_v themselves_o to_o work_v with_o pleasure_n and_o taste_v and_o therefore_o need_v it_o must_v be_v that_o true_a religious_a person_n rejoice_v in_o all_o their_o action_n yea_o they_o find_v consolation_n in_o their_o tribulation_n and_o persecution_n when_o they_o be_v ready_a for_o love_n of_o i_o even_o to_o suffer_v and_o endure_v the_o pain_n of_o hell_n if_o it_o can_v be_v without_o their_o own_o fault_n and_o will_v be_v for_o my_o glory_n and_o not_o only_o that_o but_o all_o the_o adversity_n and_o misery_n of_o this_o world_n beside_o 6._o final_o the_o meditation_n of_o death_n which_o strick_v a_o fear_n and_o horror_n into_o other_o to_o good_a religious_a man_n be_v a_o occasion_n and_o matter_n of_o joy_n not_o only_o for_o the_o reward_n that_o they_o expect_v but_o because_o they_o shall_v then_o have_v their_o part_n of_o that_o exceed_a and_o surpass_a consolation_n which_o they_o attend_v for_o at_o the_o hour_n of_o death_n for_o the_o care_n peradventure_o of_o a_o inordinate_a affection_n there_o be_v great_a danger_n imminent_a for_o if_o the_o only_a company_n with_o unchaste_a person_n be_v dangerous_a of_o how_o great_a danger_n will_v it_o be_v to_o keep_v company_n with_o carnal_a affection_n he_o that_o be_v provoke_v by_o the_o object_n from_o without_o and_o put_v forward_o by_o a_o affection_n from_o within_o soon_o fall_v though_o he_o be_v spiritual_a and_o therefore_o my_o servant_n who_o be_v in_o love_n with_o chastity_n so_o soon_o as_o they_o perceave_v themselves_o to_o be_v by_o any_o inordinate_a shall_v peradventure_o begin_v to_o peep_v forth_o it_o be_v present_o to_o be_v cut_v off_o lest_o it_o take_v away_o the_o vigour_n and_o strength_n from_o the_o young_a graft_n 2._o obedience_n lead_v the_o life_n of_o a_o religious_a person_n but_o rather_o to_o cover_v and_o conceal_v a_o secular_a life_n by_o the_o habit_n of_o religion_n 8._o an_o over_o great_a solicitude_n of_o temporal_a commodity_n be_v a_o thorn_n that_o prick_v over_o sore_o and_o great_o hurt_v a_o religious_a man_n for_o first_o it_o make_v he_o a_o procuratour_n for_o the_o body_n yea_o and_o a_o bondslave_n unto_o it_o and_o who_o see_v not_o how_o great_a a_o indignity_n it_o be_v for_o a_o religious_a man_n of_o a_o punisher_n of_o his_o body_n to_o become_v a_o purueyour_fw-mi for_o it_o and_o instead_o of_o whip_v it_o to_o yield_v it_o all_o manner_n of_o contentement_n again_o it_o hold_v and_o keep_v he_o so_o distract_v in_o mind_n as_o he_o take_v no_o gust_n or_o pleasure_n at_o all_o in_o matter_n of_o spirit_n and_o what_o other_o thing_n be_v this_o then_o to_o make_v he_o sensual_a that_o he_o may_v neither_o taste_v nor_o mind_n those_o thing_n that_o be_v of_o god_n moreover_o it_o make_v he_o churlish_a and_o harsh_a to_o those_o with_o who_o he_o live_v for_o as_o much_o as_o he_o ever_o will_v in_o all_o thing_n have_v what_o be_v best_a and_o most_o commodious_a for_o himself_o neglect_v the_o commodity_n of_o other_o yea_o he_o prefer_v his_o private_a commodity_n before_o the_o common_a not_o regard_v what_o hurt_n may_v redound_v to_o the_o religion_n thereby_o so_o he_o may_v have_v what_o he_o desire_v himself_o and_o what_o be_v this_o but_o to_o spoil_v a_o religious_a man_n of_o charity_n discretion_n and_o all_o 9_o neither_o be_v there_o here_o a_o end_n of_o this_o importune_a &_o preposterous_a care_n of_o the_o body_n but_o it_o further_o make_v the_o religious_a querulous_a idle_a froward_a surly_a a_o murmurer_n and_o of_o a_o perverse_a and_o bad_a example_n he_o will_v have_v all_o move_v to_o commiserate_v and_o pity_v his_o case_n all_o to_o show_v benevolence_n &_o good_a will_n unto_o he_o and_o therefore_o he_o attribute_v every_o least_o distemper_n of_o body_n and_o indisposition_n of_o his_o health_n to_o the_o sore_a travail_n and_o pain_n he_o have_v take_v in_o religion_n and_o how_o can_v it_o
