invention_n in_o god_n worship_n among_o which_o the_o thing_n before_o speak_v to_o have_v be_v baptize_v into_o that_o name_n because_o reducible_a to_o no_o command_n so_o the_o way_n to_o strengthen_v they_o be_v for_o such_o minister_n who_o have_v not_o be_v clear_a in_o their_o expression_n and_o who_o ministry_n have_v a_o command_n of_o their_o conscience_n and_o affection_n in_o other_o substantial_a truth_n plain_o to_o instruct_v they_o and_o inform_v they_o in_o the_o nature_n of_o these_o thing_n to_o which_o they_o conform_v and_o yield_v obedience_n sect._n 9_o i_o say_v do_v such_o minister_n who_o zealous_o in_o their_o preach_n set_v forth_o the_o excellency_n and_o necessity_n of_o christ_n of_o holiness_n and_o regeneration_n and_o of_o the_o sinfulness_n of_o sin_n with_o the_o like_a faithfulness_n present_v their_o hearer_n with_o the_o sinfulness_n of_o the_o sin_n of_o disobedience_n to_o the_o command_n of_o our_o superior_n in_o matter_n not_o simple_o unlawful_a faithful_o show_v they_o that_o the_o best_a way_n for_o to_o make_v these_o thing_n not_o simple_o unlawful_a in_o themselves_o not_o to_o be_v so_o to_o they_o be_v to_o rectify_v their_o judgement_n and_o persuade_v their_o conscience_n as_o aforesaid_a and_o also_o that_o the_o only_a cure_n for_o our_o contention_n about_o these_o lesser_a thing_n be_v to_o mind_v the_o substantial_o of_o christ_n kingdom_n indeed_o rom._n 14._o direct_v they_o to_o proportion_v their_o zeal_n more_o about_o these_o thing_n than_o these_o poor_a circumstantial_a matter_n in_o general_a term_n declaim_v against_o superstitious_a invention_n of_o man_n and_o addition_n to_o god_n worship_n etc._n etc._n there_o will_v be_v great_a hope_n through_o god_n blessing_n upon_o on_o this_o mean_n that_o those_o who_o now_o speak_v evil_a of_o those_o thing_n which_o they_o understand_v not_o that_o can_v say_v as_o the_o apostle_n paul_n in_o the_o like_a case_n rom._n 14._o i_o know_v and_o be_o persuade_v but_o they_o be_v persuade_v against_o indifferent_a thing_n as_o sinful_a though_o they_o have_v no_o clear_a and_o distinct_a knowledge_n of_o the_o nature_n of_o these_o thing_n and_o therefore_o be_v but_o weak_a in_o knowledge_n whatever_o they_o may_v think_v of_o themselves_o they_o will_v by_o this_o mean_n come_v to_o be_v enlighten_v to_o be_v better_o inform_v to_o understand_v their_o christian_n liberty_n and_o so_o the_o ground_n of_o their_o offence_n and_o scandal_n through_o their_o weakness_n will_v be_v take_v away_o sect._n 11._o and_o execute_v this_o law_n so_o offensive_a to_o a_o weak_a brother_n i_o leave_v this_o to_o your_o serious_a thoughtâ—_n for_o shall_v this_o be_v grant_v in_o our_o land_n the_o sin_n of_o steal_v will_v so_o abound_v among_o we_o as_o that_o scarce_o any_o person_n will_v be_v secure_v as_o to_o their_o life_n as_o well_o as_o estate_n the_o remit_v of_o this_o penalty_n for_o the_o reason_n aforesaid_a of_o scandal_n will_v occasion_v more_o great_a and_o horrid_a sin_n to_o be_v commit_v but_o if_o this_o be_v say_v to_o be_v nothing_o to_o the_o case_n in_o hand_n in_o reference_n to_o our_o ecclesiastical_a matter_n in_o difference_n though_o i_o think_v the_o end_n and_o reason_n of_o the_o law_n be_v the_o viz._n public_a peace_n and_o safety_n i_o shall_v go_v off_o from_o doubtful_a to_o weak_a christian_n be_v lawful_a yet_o i_o must_v forbear_v they_o for_o the_o reason_n aforesaid_a but_o not_o when_o command_v by_o my_o superior_n but_o that_o this_o command_n of_o not_o lay_v a_o stumble_a block_n restrain_v the_o magistrate_n i_o humble_o conceive_v as_o i_o say_v before_o no_o such_o matter_n and_o my_o ground_n for_o it_o be_v this_o sect._n 7._o that_o the_o those_o who_o be_v superior_n in_o the_o government_n of_o the_o church_n assemble_v together_o act_v 15._o have_v sin_v against_o this_o precept_n of_o paul_n rom._n 14.14_o for_o by_o what_o they_o impose_v upon_o the_o gentile_n viz._n abstain_v from_o blood_n and_o thing_n strangle_v they_o may_v have_v give_v they_o matter_n of_o great_a scandal_n and_o offence_n who_o be_v weak_a and_o new_o convert_v to_o the_o christian_a faith_n they_o may_v very_o well_o have_v be_v scandalize_v at_o this_o decree_n as_o deprive_v they_o not_o only_o of_o their_o christian_a liberty_n but_o likewise_o that_o natural_a liberty_n they_o have_v to_o eat_v blood_n and_o kill_v their_o poultry_n as_o we_o general_o do_v but_o now_o these_o very_a thing_n so_o altogether_o unnecessary_a inseâ—_n as_o you_o may_v perceive_v be_v judge_v by_o they_o necessary_a for_o propagation_n of_o the_o christian_a religion_n among_o the_o jew_n and_o for_o the_o settle_n of_o that_o peace_n which_o be_v so_o much_o disturb_v by_o the_o jewish_a teacher_n that_o it_o amount_v to_o the_o raise_n of_o a_o sedition_n among_o they_o as_o the_o word_n be_v in_o the_o original_n act._n 15.2_o sect._n 8._o now_o if_o this_o have_v be_v a_o sin_n in_o these_o church-governor_n so_o to_o do_v for_o peace_n and_o unity_n so_o to_o scandalize_v the_o weak_a gentile_a as_o be_v say_v before_o put_v such_o a_o restraint_n upon_o we_o as_o this_o sure_o if_o we_o observe_v this_o canon_n we_o shall_v soon_o find_v they_o introduce_v more_o and_o the_o pure_a worship_n of_o christ_n to_o which_o we_o gentile_n be_v convert_v will_v by_o degree_n be_v altogether_o corrupt_v with_o jewish_a ceremony_n but_o we_o find_v instead_o of_o such_o perverse_a dispute_n that_o such_o be_v their_o primitive_a peace_n unity_n and_o charity_n that_o they_o do_v rejoice_v at_o this_o decree_n and_o cheerful_o observe_v it_o sect._n 11._o and_o if_o god_n will_v give_v to_o we_o but_o the_o same_o humble_a and_o peaceable_a and_o charitable_a mind_n these_o discord_n and_o difference_n about_o mode_n of_o worship_n and_o discipline_n will_v huge_o be_v heal_v by_o obedience_n to_o this_o act_n for_o uniformity_n and_o thus_o now_o have_v upon_o the_o occasion_n of_o this_o passage_n in_o this_o book_n aforesaid_a viz._n from_o the_o discourse_n of_o the_o wholesome_a counsel_n of_o
