comprehend_v nothing_o but_o what_o be_v sound_a and_o pure_o etc._n etc._n i._n e._n the_o general_o acknowledge_v article_n of_o the_o christian_a faith_n and_o plain_a indispensable_a duty_n of_o life_n what_o he_o mean_v by_o article_n of_o faith_n general_o acknowledge_v who_o can_v tell_v if_o he_o mean_v such_o as_o be_v receive_v by_o all_o church_n and_o council_n repute_v sound_a member_n of_o the_o church_n catholic_n he_o shall_v have_v do_v well_o to_o have_v express_v it_o but_o he_o have_v so_o order_v his_o word_n that_o if_o it_o may_v serve_v his_o turn_n at_o a_o pinch_n hereafter_o he_o can_v notwithstanding_o what_o he_o write_v here_o wave_n or_o deny_v any_o such_o article_n when_o the_o church_n shall_v require_v his_o assent_n because_o some_o heretic_n or_o other_o have_v oppose_v they_o and_o so_o they_o be_v not_o general_o acknowledge_v as_o for_o indispensable_a duty_n of_o life_n which_o be_v the_o second_o part_n of_o his_o object_n it_o be_v but_o just_a to_o ask_v he_o what_o be_v such_o or_o how_o there_o can_v be_v any_o such_o for_o if_o as_o he_o lay_v for_o a_o principle_n the_o main_a end_n of_o church-government_n and_o discipline_n be_v the_o countenance_v and_o promote_a the_o christian_a life_n in_o a_o holy_a observation_n of_o such_o precept_n of_o christ_n as_o do_v not_o make_v man_n obnoxious_a to_o the_o secular_a power_n by_o transgress_v they_o then_o in_o case_n a_o secular_a prince_n law_n shall_v lay_v hold_n of_o a_o christian_a by_o reason_n of_o any_o one_o or_o of_o all_o christ_n precept_n the_o main_a end_n of_o the_o church-governor_n office_n make_v it_o not_o their_o duty_n to_o countenance_n and_o promote_v the_o observation_n of_o any_o such_o of_o christ_n precept_n and_o be_v not_o this_o in_o effect_n to_o make_v all_o the_o precept_n of_o christ_n dispensable_a upon_o occasion_n can_v the_o prime_a visier_n now_o persuade_v the_o emperor_n subject_n to_o embrace_v this_o doctrine_n it_o will_v much_o easy_o bring_v the_o grand_a signior_n design_n to_o pass_v than_o all_o his_o army_n now_o i_o can_v devise_v no_o imaginable_a evasion_n for_o the_o doctor_n but_o in_o that_o word_n the_o main_a end_n whence_o perhaps_o he_o will_v pretend_v that_o one_o end_n though_o not_o the_o main_a of_o church-government_n be_v to_o promote_v the_o observation_n of_o christ_n precept_n whether_o they_o make_v man_n obnoxious_a to_o the_o secular_a power_n or_o no._n but_o will_v he_o dare_v to_o stick_v to_o this_o will_v he_o profess_v that_o to_o promote_v the_o observation_n of_o christ_n precept_n be_v a_o petty_a end_n of_o church-government_n and_o by_o the_o by_o if_o he_o do_v yet_o even_o this_o fetch_n will_v not_o clear_o carry_v he_o off_o for_o first_o he_o make_v a_o distinction_n of_o such_o of_o christ_n precept_n as_o render_v man_n obnoxious_a to_o the_o secular_a power_n from_o such_o as_o do_v not_o second_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o late_a sort_n of_o precept_n he_o teach_v that_o it_o be_v the_o main_a end_n of_o church-government_n to_o promote_v their_o observation_n three_o therefore_o he_o necessary_o leave_v the_o former_a sort_n in_o a_o loose_a condition_n and_o dispensable_a by_o the_o governor_n for_o certain_o what_o be_v indispensable_a belong_v to_o the_o main_a end_n of_o their_o government_n but_o if_o they_o may_v take_v their_o liberty_n touch_v those_o costly_a and_o dangerous_a precept_n of_o christ_n and_o be_v not_o indispensable_o bind_v to_o promote_v and_o press_v their_o observation_n and_o that_o so_o they_o be_v not_o bind_v the_o doctor_n signify_v by_o his_o distinction_n it_o follow_v that_o they_o may_v in_o this_o case_n dispense_v and_o leave_v the_o people_n to_o save_v their_o skin_n or_o purse_n by_o make_v bold_a with_o christ_n precept_n well_o but_o however_o the_o doctor_n grant_v the_o ground_n of_o the_o objection_n to_o be_v true_o allege_v only_o he_o will_v persuade_v we_o that_o this_o overthrow_v not_o all_o authority_n in_o thing_n indifferent_a for_o sect._n 7._o he_o say_v the_o premise_a passage_n administer_v matter_n for_o a_o due_a solution_n and_o then_o he_o add_v that_o in_o say_v the_o object_n of_o church-discipline_n be_v to_o comprehend_v nothing_o but_o what_o be_v sound_a and_o pure_o apostolical_a viz._n the_o general_o real_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o security_n of_o man_n soul_n in_o the_o conduct_n of_o they_o to_o heaven_n and_o also_o for_o their_o comfortable_a abode_n here_o upon_o earth_n be_v not_o this_o pretty_a his_o position_n be_v that_o the_o object_n of_o church-government_n must_v comprehend_v nothing_o but_o the_o general_o acknowledge_v article_n of_o faith_n and_o indispensable_a duty_n of_o life_n do_v not_o this_o apparent_o exclude_v all_o thing_n else_o yet_o he_o profess_v here_o that_o he_o mean_v only_o that_o those_o shall_v be_v the_o principal_a and_o one_o thing_n and_o if_o you_o will_v believe_v he_o he_o mean_v another_o but_o that_o he_o mean_v not_o thus_o be_v evident_a enough_o by_o the_o word_n he_o add_v in_o that_o former_a paragraph_n viz._n other_o thing_n suppose_v the_o lesser_a and_o more_o dispensable_a as_o be_v of_o humane_a institution_n be_v to_o be_v so_o gentle_o recommend_v that_o no_o conscientious_a man_n may_v be_v pinch_v thereby_o now_o if_o all_o thing_n beside_o article_n of_o faith_n and_o indispensable_a duty_n of_o life_n must_v only_o be_v recommend_v then_o must_v they_o not_o be_v command_v and_o so_o they_o will_v prove_v no_o object_n of_o the_o church_n discipline_n nay_o the_o doctor_n will_v have_v they_o recommend_v yet_o but_o gentle_o do_v not_o this_o look_n like_o a_o act_n of_o discipline_n and_o so_o as_o not_o to_o pinch_v conscientious_a man_n i_o know_v who_o will_v owe_v he_o immortal_a thanks_o for_o this_o doctrine_n which_o if_o it_o be_v sound_a any_o nonconformist_a may_v pretend_v conscience_n and_o cry_v out_o of_o be_v pinch_a and_o then_o he_o ought_v to_o have_v his_o liberty_n but_o the_o doctor_n forget_v not_o to_o interpret_v this_o passage_n also_o and_o in_o effect_n he_o tell_v we_o that_o by_o gentle_o recommend_v his_o meaning_n be_v command_v for_o thus_o he_o expound_v these_o word_n other_o thing_n so_o gentle_o recommend_v that_o conscientious_a man_n may_v not_o be_v pinch_v thereby_o that_o be_v to_o say_v that_o the_o like_a severity_n be_v not_o to_o be_v use_v in_o thing_n that_o be_v not_o of_o so_o indispensable_a a_o nature_n and_o who_o doubt_v of_o this_o but_o to_o recommend_v and_o gentle_o and_o so_o gentle_o as_o no_o man_n may_v be_v pinch_v be_v i_o take_v it_o no_o severity_n at_o all_o nay_o no_o discipline_n at_o all_o so_o far_o be_v it_o from_o be_v a_o like_a degree_n of_o severity_n to_o that_o which_o be_v use_v in_o point_n indispensable_a nevertheless_o by_o gentle_o recommend_v the_o doctor_n mean_v a_o less_o degree_n of_o severe_a discipline_n he_o have_v most_o aenigmatick_a meaning_n nor_o can_v i_o pass_v by_o those_o other_o word_n of_o he_o without_o a_o note_n for_o this_o viz._n that_o the_o article_n of_o faith_n and_o indispensable_a duty_n of_o life_n shall_v be_v the_o object_n of_o discipline_n be_v real_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o security_n of_o man_n soul_n in_o the_o conduct_n of_o they_o to_o heaven_n and_o also_o for_o their_o comfortable_a abode_n here_o on_o earth_n it_o seem_v then_o in_o the_o doctor_n judgement_n that_o the_o due_a observance_n of_o ecclesiastic_a law_n in_o thing_n indifferent_a be_v not_o real_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o gospel_n nor_o for_o security_n of_o man_n soul_n in_o the_o way_n to_o heaven_n tell_v the_o people_n this_o and_o with_o what_o better_a argument_n for_o schism_n and_o faction_n can_v you_o furnish_v they_o for_o why_o shall_v they_o trouble_v themselves_o to_o submit_v to_o that_o which_o be_v not_o real_o for_o the_o gospel_n glory_n nor_o their_o safe_a passage_n to_o heaven_n dr_n more_n teach_v they_o if_o they_o will_v but_o have_v wit_n enough_o to_o understand_v he_o right_o that_o their_o disobedience_n to_o the_o church_n law_n be_v no_o real_a impediment_n of_o their_o salvation_n or_o of_o the_o gospel_n glory_n nay_o this_o be_v not_o all_o do_v the_o people_n desire_v a_o comfortable_a abode_n on_o earth_n the_o same_o doctor_n have_v kind_o signify_v to_o they_o that_o the_o like_a disobedience_n be_v no_o real_a impediment_n to_o this_o neither_o and_o let_v he_o not_o pretend_v that_o i_o here_o wrest_v his_o word_n to_o a_o odious_a sense_n for_o if_o there_o be_v any_o sense_n at_o all_o in_o that_o part_n of_o his_o argumentation_n i_o have_v do_v he_o no_o wrong_n if_o obedience_n to_o the_o church_n law_n be_v real_o for_o the_o gospel_n glory_n the_o promotion_n of_o our_o salvation_n and_o this_o viz._n that_o they_o only_o shall_v be_v the_o main_a object_n be_v say_v he_o real_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o gospel_n etc._n etc._n which_o reason_n of_o he_o be_v no_o reason_n unless_o less_o he_o mean_v that_o the_o other_o be_v not_o real_o so_o see_v if_o it_o be_v real_o so_o it_o may_v by_o his_o own_o very_a reason_n be_v part_n of_o that_o main_a object_n in_o the_o same_o 7_o sect._n he_o thus_o proceed_v i_o think_v it_o be_v pretty_a plain_a already_o that_o i_o do_v not_o affirm_v that_o church-discipline_n shall_v comprehend_v only_o the_o general_o because_o in_o another_o place_n he_o do_v or_o may_v seem_v to_o write_v for_o she_o what_o be_v this_o but_o to_o give_v his_o mother_n a_o bit_n and_o a_o knock_n but_o in_o these_o repugnancy_n his_o proselyte_n know_v well_o enough_o which_o be_v indeed_o his_o meaning_n they_o be_v not_o to_o seek_v where_o he_o speak_v what_o he_o will_v have_v they_o believe_v and_o where_o he_o speak_v what_o may_v preserve_v he_o from_o be_v obnoxious_a to_o the_o secular_a power_n or_o if_o any_o of_o they_o be_v so_o dull_a as_o not_o to_o discover_v this_o and_o therefore_o may_v take_v offence_n the_o doctor_n may_v full_a as_o rational_o apologise_v for_o himself_o to_o his_o offend_a brethren_n out_o of_o one_o sort_n of_o passage_n in_o his_o write_n as_o he_o do_v to_o his_o reader_n here_o out_o of_o the_o other_o sort_n but_o let_v we_o see_v what_o he_o will_v have_v we_o here_o compare_v in_o his_o preface_n viz._n that_o which_o occur_v sect._n 13._o at_o the_o close_a thereof_o there_o shall_v be_v nothing_o hold_v essential_a or_o fundamental_a but_o the_o indispensable_a law_n of_o the_o christian_a life_n and_o that_o doctrine_n that_o depend_v not_o to_o command_v they_o but_o to_o see_v the_o unluckiness_n of_o it_o the_o doctor_n here_o make_v the_o doctrine_n touch_v the_o church_n authority_n in_o thing_n indifferent_a to_o
