follow_v if_o therefore_o there_o be_v a_o church_n catholic_n in_o those_o day_n that_o have_v or_o exercise_v any_o authority_n and_o this_o i_o think_v we_o confess_v in_o our_o creed_n sure_o now_o if_o we_o look_v after_o the_o major_a part_n of_o the_o church_n the_o great_a communion_n of_o christian_n such_o thing_n as_o these_o be_v say_v and_o you_o must_v tell_v i_o what_o i_o must_v reply_v to_o they_o and_o indeed_o if_o protestant_n see_v no_o eminent_a church_n to_o which_o if_o all_o her_o decision_n be_v make_v authentical_a man_n will_v present_o apply_v themselves_o their_o contention_n will_v not_o be_v so_o earnest_a against_o our_o ascribe_v too_o much_o to_o the_o church_n authority_n but_o suppose_v say_v they_o that_o the_o church_n present_v determine_v thing_n against_o scripture_n and_o against_o the_o former_a church_n why_o may_v not_o i_o say_v i_o again_o as_o well_o suppose_v you_o who_o think_v thus_o of_o the_o present_a church_n to_o mistake_v scripture_n and_o the_o former_a church_n yourselves_o and_o why_o may_v i_o not_o say_v again_o to_o you_o suppose_v that_o she_o err_v in_o fundamental_o where_o be_v you_o that_o in_o these_o do_v follow_v her_o judgement_n yes_o but_o the_o fundamental_o she_o direct_v i_o in_o be_v more_o plain_o set_v down_o in_o scripture_n well_o then_o since_o you_o may_v not_o judge_n against_o she_o in_o the_o plain_a may_v you_o in_o other_o thing_n less_o plain_a but_o say_v you_o our_o saviour_n have_v promise_v in_o these_o she_o shall_v not_o err_v then_o you_o need_v not_o fear_v err_v with_o she_o in_o the_o rest_n for_o be_v truth_n in_o the_o rest_n so_o necessary_a as_o you_o pretend_v god_n can_v and_o will_v here_o also_o have_v make_v she_o a_o infallible_a direct_a and_o we_o be_v to_o know_v this_o that_o the_o church_n may_v be_v faulty_a in_o something_o that_o she_o enjoin_v and_o yet_o he_o that_o assent_v to_o her_o judgement_n not_o be_v so_o but_o faulty_a he_o will_v be_v if_o he_o do_v not_o assent_v else_o what_o shall_v we_o answer_v to_o deut._n 17._o 11_o unless_o we_o will_v say_v
i_o answer_v that_o from_o this_o judgement_n of_o such_o a_o church_n so_o often_o as_o it_o be_v suspect_v by_o i_o i_o will_v not_o retreat_v to_o my_o private_a judgement_n but_o i_o will_v appeal_v to_o a_o more_o general_a judgement_n of_o the_o present_a church_n which_o judgement_n i_o can_v either_o have_v conjunctim_fw-la or_o divisim_fw-la as_o it_o be_v ordinary_o procure_v in_o now_o she_o be_v and_o doubtless_o my_o faith_n shall_v have_v be_v nevertheless_o sufficient_o ground_v i._n e._n on_o the_o word_n of_o god_n still_o oral_o deliver_v by_o she_o neither_o can_v any_o have_v make_v a_o argument_n that_o my_o faith_n be_v not_o salvifical_a for_o this_o reason_n because_o fidei_fw-la non_fw-la potest_fw-la subesse_fw-la falsum_fw-la for_o she_o must_v then_o in_o defect_n of_o all_o write_n have_v be_v confess_v the_o pillar_n and_o ground_n of_o truth_n and_o the_o dispenser_n or_o steward_n of_o the_o mystery_n of_o god_n 1_o cor._n 4._o 1._o the_o faith_n which_o she_o recommend_v to_o we_o on_o the_o scripture_n as_o well_o as_o private_a man_n think_v they_o do_v they_o when_o they_o leave_v she_o to_o follow_v their_o own_o judgement_n and_o if_o the_o church_n judgement_n be_v not_o neither_o be_v their_o own_o infallible_a for_o which_o they_o desert_n the_o church_n but_o though_o it_o be_v most_o true_a that_o true_a faith_n be_v always_o ground_v on_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o word_n of_o god_n be_v infallible_a yet_o be_v it_o not_o necessary_a that_o every_o one_o who_o have_v true_a faith_n do_v know_v that_o it_o be_v infallible_a or_o be_v infallible_o certain_a of_o it_o for_o many_o have_v save_v faith_n doubtless_o that_o learn_v this_o word_n of_o god_n only_o from_o a_o fallible_a man_n suppose_v from_o their_o father_n or_o from_o their_o pastor_n neither_o be_v it_o necessary_a that_o this_o faith_n shall_v be_v receive_v from_o another_o person_n infallible_a beside_o god_n nor_o that_o it_o shall_v be_v receive_v from_o a_o write_n at_o all_o there_o may_v be_v a_o strong_a adherence_n beyond_o evidence_n neither_o can_v it_o be_v unsufficient_a if_o it_o be_v so_o strong_a as_o to_o produce_v obedience_n to_o god_n command_n 3._o it_o be_v say_v that_o one_o be_v for_o his_o salvation_n secure_a enough_o where_o ever_o these_o two_o be_v unity_n of_o faith_n with_o the_o church_n in_o sufficient_a fundamental_o and_o then_o charity_n towards_o the_o church_n in_o the_o point_v not-fundamental_a wherein_o i_o disagree_v from_o she_o charity_n i._n e._n not_o condemn_v she_o for_o they_o to_o be_v no_o church_n etc._n etc._n i_o answer_v 1._o first_o such_o a_o one_o must_v know_v well_o what_o be_v fundamental_o that_o perhaps_o he_o take_v not_o liberty_n to_o differ_v there_o may_v be_v a_o large_a unity_n of_o faith_n than_o only_o in_o fundamental_o unless_o all_o point_n of_o faith_n be_v fundamental_a and_o if_o so_o than_o church_n that_o differ_v in_o any_o point_n of_o faith_n differ_v in_o fundamental_o 3ly_a if_o there_o may_v be_v a_o large_a unity_n then_o spiritual_a guide_n doubtless_o be_v set_v over_o we_o to_o build_v we_o up_o in_o the_o unity_n also_o of_o this_o faith_n and_o not_o only_o of_o fundamental_o see_v heb._n 5._o 11._o etc._n etc._n 6._o 1._o and_o therefore_o why_o eph._n 4._o 11._o compare_v with_o 13._o shall_v be_v restrain_v only_o to_o fundamental_o as_o it_o be_v by_o some_o it_o seem_v to_o i_o strange_a i_o can_v think_v that_o the_o corinthian_n differ_v among_o themselves_o in_o fundamental_o see_v 1_o cor._n 1._o 4._o &c_n &c_n and_o yet_o the_o apostle_n be_v very_o angry_a with_o they_o for_o their_o division_n and_o exhort_v they_o to_o be_v all_o of_o one_o judgement_n which_o union_n of_o judgement_n can_v not_o be_v by_o follow_v the_o judgement_n each_o one_o of_o their_o private_a reason_n but_o of_o the_o apostle_n and_o of_o their_o orthodox_n teacher_n appoint_v by_o he_o see_v 1_o cor._n 1._o 10._o rom._n 12._o 16_o 18._o rom._n 15._o 5_o 6._o phil._n 1._o 27._o phil._n 2._o 2_o 3._o 1_o pet._n 3._o 8._o where_o speak_v the_o same_o thing_n and_o be_v join_v in_o the_o same_o judgement_n contend_v for_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o gospel_n with_o one_o mind_n glorify_v god_n with_o one_o mind_n and_o one_o mouth_n etc._n etc._n argue_v a_o unity_n require_v not_o only_o of_o charity_n but_o of_o opinion_n and_o judgement_n and_o that_o not_o only_o in_o fundamental_o in_o which_o as_o i_o say_v all_o the_o factious_a corinthian_n or_o most_o of_o they_o accord_v but_o other_o beneficial_a truth_n which_o union_n how_o can_v so_o many_o judgement_n independent_a of_o one_o another_o attain_v but_o by_o all_o of_o they_o retain_v the_o same_o doctrine_n of_o their_o pastor_n or_o pastor_n 4_o if_o these_o point_n wherein_o the_o reform_v recede_v from_o the_o authority_n of_o superior_a council_n be_v not_o very_o necessary_a though_o not_o fundamental_a how_o can_v a_o separation_n for_o they_o be_v justify_v but_o if_o necessary_a why_o shall_v we_o say_v that_o god_n require_v not_o a_o unity_n of_o faith_n in_o they_o 5_o again_o as_o faith_n and_o charity_n secure_v not_o our_o salvation_n if_o we_o be_v guilty_a of_o some_o other_o vice_n adultery_n &c_n &c_n so_o they_o do_v not_o secure_v it_o if_o there_o be_v any_o denial_n of_o obedience_n where_o it_o be_v due_a especial_o to_o the_o church_n disobedience_n towards_o who_o be_v in_o a_o more_o special_a manner_n disobedience_n to_o christ_n and_o to_o god_n himself_o and_o why_o may_v not_o this_o then_o endanger_v we_o if_o god_n have_v provide_v teacher_n to_o keep_v we_o in_o the_o same_o judgement_n and_o we_o to_o the_o great_a hurt_n both_o of_o the_o church_n and_o of_o ourselves_o too_o by_o these_o division_n will_v every_o one_o follow_v his_o own_o judgement_n especial_o since_o
of_o his_o deduction_n and_o seldom_o examine_v the_o soundness_n of_o some_o ground_n which_o he_o irrational_o take_v for_o grant_v become_v infallible_o certain_a as_o he_o think_v of_o what_o be_v indeed_o a_o error_n and_o many_o time_n a_o gross_a one_o but_o it_o may_v be_v say_v again_o that_o where_o we_o can_v show_v none_o of_o these_o difference_n in_o principle_n yet_o there_o have_v be_v heretic_n that_o 25._o have_v go_v against_o tenet_n even_o in_o fundamental_o of_o which_o tenet_n we_o must_v needs_o grant_v that_o any_o man_n may_v be_v infallible_o certain_a as_o the_o
