touchstone_n lust_n second_o that_o you_o may_v better_o know_v their_o aberration_n from_o the_o rule_n consider_v whether_o the_o affection_n have_v any_o stop_n a_o affection_n be_v like_o a_o river_n if_o you_o let_v it_o run_v without_o any_o stop_n or_o resistance_n it_o 1._o run_v quiet_o but_o if_o you_o hinder_v its_o course_n it_o run_v more_o violent_o so_o it_o be_v with_o your_o inordinate_a affection_n be_v misapprehension_n 1._o that_o be_v when_o we_o do_v not_o apprehend_v thing_n aright_o our_o affection_n follow_v our_o apprehension_n as_o we_o see_v in_o a_o sensible_a as_o silver_n and_o silver_n vessel_n as_o earthen_a the_o one_o will_v serve_v for_o use_v as_o well_o as_o the_o other_o so_o in_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n he_o that_o be_v strong_a in_o reason_n and_o wise_a be_v they_o represent_v to_o he_o as_o they_o be_v he_o will_v use_v a_o great_a estate_n without_o set_v his_o heart_n upon_o it_o more_o than_o if_o it_o be_v a_o mean_a one_o &_o in_o the_o condition_n of_o this_o life_n he_o will_v will_v so_o carry_v himself_o as_o if_o he_o use_v they_o not_o this_o the_o apostle_n have_v we_o to_o do_v to_o use_v the_o world_n as_o but_o to_o seek_v to_o find_v bait_n in_o they_o and_o to_o set_v our_o heart_n upon_o they_o that_o will_v hurt_v we_o exceed_o if_o we_o look_v for_o excellency_n in_o worldly_a thing_n and_o touch_v they_o too_o familiar_o they_o will_v burn_v &_o scorch_v we_o but_o if_o we_o use_v they_o for_o our_o necessity_n and_o so_o use_v they_o as_o if_o we_o do_v not_o we_o shall_v find_v great_a benefit_n and_o comfort_n by_o they_o this_o be_v the_o difference_n between_o earthly_a and_o spiritual_a thing_n you_o must_v have_v knowledge_n of_o these_o and_o this_o knowledge_n must_v else_o but_o a_o turn_n of_o carnal_a affection_n into_o spiritual_a and_o natural_a affection_n to_o a_o high_a and_o more_o noble_a end_n that_o be_v to_o eat_v and_o to_o drink_v not_o only_o for_o nature_n benefit_n but_o for_o god_n to_o do_v he_o honour_n that_o be_v the_o right_a end_n for_o to_o mortify_v be_v to_o rectify_v and_o to_o bring_v thing_n that_o be_v out_o of_o compass_n to_o why_o mortify_v they_o be_v to_o be_v mortify_v for_o reason_n do_v wonderful_o persuade_v and_o necessity_n of_o mortify_v once_o apprehend_v make_v man_n go_v about_o it_o let_v we_o but_o consider_v of_o what_o moment_n it_o be_v to_o have_v they_o mortify_v what_o ill_a if_o we_o do_v not_o what_o good_a if_o we_o do_v the_o first_o reason_n be_v because_o affection_n be_v action_n mettle_a horse_n be_v a_o delight_n to_o the_o rider_n if_o he_o be_v keep_v under_o simil._n the_o bridle_n so_o the_o affection_n if_o they_o be_v good_a the_o strong_a the_o better_o but_o the_o we_o please_v but_o yet_o the_o play_v of_o the_o cast_n be_v requisite_a so_o the_o mortify_n of_o the_o affection_n it_o be_v not_o in_o we_o yet_o we_o must_v use_v the_o mean_n for_o to_o do_v it_o let_v we_o not_o give_v satisfaction_n to_o any_o lust_n but_o hinder_v it_o to_o our_o power_n it_o be_v a_o shame_n for_o we_o to_o have_v our_o heart_n affect_v with_o any_o sinful_a lust_n be_v we_o more_o careful_a of_o our_o soul_n these_o inordinate_a affection_n will_v be_v more_o break_v and_o keep_v down_o by_o we_o believe_v it_o strong_a affection_n breed_v strong_a affliction_n and_o say_v thou_o shall_v have_v riches_n and_o contentment_n in_o simile_n earthly_a thing_n and_o yet_o have_v inordinate_a affection_n this_o be_v no_o help_n for_o thou_o it_o be_v but_o a_o apply_v simile_n of_o a_o outward_a plaster_n to_o a_o inward_a sore_n that_o will_v do_v it_o no_o good_a the_o three_o motive_n be_v take_v from_o 1_o timothy_n 6._o 9_o the_o apostle_n speak_v
