immediate_o after_o their_o deliverance_n from_o captivity_n at_o least_o the_o reverence_n to_o the_o temple_n then_o scarce_o finish_v will_v have_v make_v they_o abstain_v from_o shed_v his_o mean_v by_o the_o usual_a phrase_n of_o scripture_n not_o by_o our_o common_a manner_n of_o speech_n now_o it_o be_v usual_a to_o the_o prophet_n and_o sacred_a writer_n to_o lay_v the_o father_n sin_n unto_o the_o child_n charge_n if_o they_o continue_v in_o the_o like_a or_o repent_v not_o for_o they_o and_o if_o this_o people_n now_o live_v must_v be_v plague_v for_o the_o ancient_a prophet_n blood_n no_o question_n but_o they_o be_v guilty_a of_o it_o and_o may_v be_v say_v to_o have_v slay_v they_o in_o the_o same_o sense_n they_o be_v indict_v as_o guilty_a of_o it_o that_o any_o good_a ecclesiastical_a writer_n second_o because_o it_o no_o way_n benefit_n the_o author_n of_o this_o opinion_n but_o rather_o increase_v the_o difficulty_n for_o if_o he_o be_v slay_v by_o herod_n the_o great_a who_o be_v a_o philistine_n by_o parentage_n why_o shall_v not_o john_n baptist_n death_n be_v lay_v to_o their_o charge_n be_v slay_v by_o herod_n son_n nay_o why_o not_o our_o saviour_n or_o his_o apostle_n who_o he_o foretell_v they_o will_v short_o kill_v and_o persecute_v this_o plain_o argue_v that_o the_o reason_n why_o he_o name_v this_o zacharias_n be_v not_o copy_n his_o slaughter_n and_o beside_o this_o reason_n there_o be_v none_o why_o we_o shall_v think_v this_o zacharias_n be_v john_n baptist_n father_n as_o for_o the_o apocryphal_a story_n or_o tradition_n
